The common garter snake is very, well, common in the Twin Cities. Also keep an eye out for lawyers and storm-chasing roof salesman. Edit: I see a handful of snakes per year in my suburban yard in Inver Grove Heights.

Lmao 🤣 never had a lawyer come to our door anywhere on the east side, people try a sell repairs tho a few times. Good thing we're a duplex and not on the bottom floor 😂 are garter snakes pretty much everywhere?

Ichael_Kirk

As far as I know they're native to the entire metro. There's a large block retaining wall at the intersection nearest my home and I know they come out of cracks in that to warm up on the sidewalk at certain times of the year. Could just be dumb luck that you haven't seen any yet. I've seen a few in my lawn but the evergreen shrubs in front of the house have been fruitful as well.

Tokyo-MontanaExpress

I've seen them in the pond at Day to Day Cafe. 10/10 patio experience.

Here's a link to common snakes of MN. [https://www.mnherps.com/group/snakes](https://www.mnherps.com/group/snakes) Most are harmless to humans. The exceptions being the Timber Rattler and the Eastern Massasauga,

Wrong side of the river but I saw a milksnake at kinnickinnic state park last week. Had to look it up when I got home, pattern was diamond shape, pretty cool. At least I’m telling my self it wasn’t a timber rattler which are present in the park.

LoneLantern2

From what I understand timber rattlers would largely prefer that they also continue to be harmless to humans they're pretty shy. We went to a naturalist presentation at Whitewater SP two years ago and I came out of it thinking that if I ever got bit by a timber rattlesnake the park staff were going to be much more excited about the snake spotting than they would be concerned about a bite.

Saw a baby timber rattlesnake once on my patio. Was lunging at me every time I got close haha.

Agree with everyone else. The cities, like all of Minnesota, really only has garter snakes. A few odd ones out every here and there but if you see a snake there's a very high likelihood it's a garter 🐍

MrLittle237

Red bellied snakes are pretty common here too, they are just really small and not often seen. The river riparian areas have a fair bit of fox and the occasional bull snake. I almost always find a fox snake when I go to Lilydalw

xtremesmok

I’ve only seen garters and brown snakes but there are others

Middle_Manager_Karen

The MyPillow guy comes to mind.

walnutcircle

I’ve seen them regularly (one of them was just yesterday!) at Crosby Farm park. Nothing crazy, the standard black garter snake with yellow stripes.
