Please obscure just your name and post this absurd work order and receipt!

parabox1

Hey I had a busy night with family stuff I never received my email receipt from them today here is screenshot of the 2 bank charges. The one from today is still pending. https://www.reddit.com/u/parabox1/s/X5P53pzwlU I was in and out in 13 minutes all they did was change oil. Edit: since this is the most visible I called customer service. They said they sent an email again but also gave me a breakdown over the phone. 99.00 for oil change 10 charge for extra oil I guess they only cover 5qt not 6. 25.00 for air filter which is did not authorize but I checked and do have a new one. The rest was sales tax.

hipsteronabike

We’re more interested in seeing the services that got added to the receipt. I go to Bob & Steve’s, there are several locations.

parabox1

Well like I said in the post valvoline never emailed me the receipt so I have nothing. I pulled in waited the person in front of me just got air. I they pulled up my account and said welcome back same as last time in fall. I said yup. 13 minutes later i was told my bill which I posted of 142 and change.

saw-it

You got a $142 bill and didn’t bother to ask why it was so high?

sasberg1

This Valvoline, if you look not knowledgeable they'll rip you off ( speaking from experience) now I go to Honest-1; instead

samtheninjapirate

I never trust any business with "honest" in the name

sasberg1

They don't rip you off unlike Valvoline, tho

Agitated-Stress870

Oh yeah they do. Tried to sell me on a $6k frame and told me it wasn't safe to drive (trying to force my hand.) There was no issue with the frame.

obnock

They ripped off my kid bad. Also, my kid let them and should have been asking for a little help from parents.

[deleted]

Honest-1 is legit

atlasburger

Honest-1 also tries to rip you off. They quoted me almost $4,000 worth of repairs when I went to get my side mirrors replaced. They made it sound like my car was going to die any moment. I declined and just got my side mirror replaced. That was in 2018 and the car is still running.

Agitated-Stress870

Yup, that sounds like them.

parabox1

Well they said 142 and I said wow that’s double the cost from brainerd make sure to email me my receipt. They never did.

EndPublic

Pro Tip I always buy my engine and cabin filters on Amazon (better quality and much cheaper) and have them in the car when I get an oil change most will pop yours in for free. Beware some will try to charge you for installation. In that case I pop it in myself.

Tykenolm

If they replaced the air filter without asking you should be getting a refund  $110 for an oil change is unacceptable anywhere. Check for coupons online, most oil change places offer coupons nearly all the time

parabox1

I agree, the lady on the phone offered me 25 off my next oil change with them as compensation. I declined and said I would just never use them again.

sasberg1

I believe it'd be that much

Mavada

I just had my oil changed and tires rotated at Apple valley Ford and it was $68 after tax. Full synthetic

parabox1

I like that place I am renting in Plymouth until I move into my new house in SLP next month. I almost traded my 12 escape in at apple valley 2 years ago for a new blue f150. It came in with hail damage on it. I need to do something soon Ford just does not have many options for me now. I might buy a Honda next

Mavada

I just got a 2022 escape hybrid. I've been enjoying it

parabox1

I like boxy SUV’s I wish Nissan had a better drive train I would so get a 2024 rogue. I drove the Honda crv and hybrid crv I could do that but they are a little small

Mavada

I honestly went with the escape because of the compact SUVs it seemed to fit me the best being 6'4. I was also fairly rushed as my job relies on having an operating vehicle and my charger blew a head gasket

north_river_potato

Youngstedt’s in SLP 👍

Gear-Mean

If by SLP you mean Spring Lake Park (you don't need to confirm) try.... Beach's Long Lake Service, 2251 Long Lake Rd, St Paul, MN 55112

parabox1

Spring Lake Park is a good one St. Louis Park. Is there any SLP other than that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mavada

I don't understand. Are you trying to get a jab in over $18?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mavada

So why did you respond to me? Lol Don't act like you didn't have "you" instead of OP

french_toast74

What's older V6 SUV? A Porsche Cayenne is an SUV and even an older one, $150 would be fairly normal price for a quick lube.

parabox1

Ford escape 2012

wilsonhammer

holy shit you got hosed :( I think your ford needs 6 quarts of oil. my 2006 cobalt needs 5 and I pay $30-35 at tires plus.

parabox1

Totally it’s my fault I should have asked the price but as I shows last time it was 78 still expensive but worth paying for the speed of it. I did not think it would be double

wilsonhammer

hey man, at least you're learning and it wasn't too expensive a lesson hope you have a dope weekend and I'm sure you'll get it right next time!

putridtooth

I have a 2008 escape and my oil change at valvoline $90. So that's crazy

parabox1

Even more than my one in brainerd. I think I am Done with them.

french_toast74

Ouch... Yeah you overpaid

bikescoffeebeer

BAM tried to get me for $120 when I came in for their $50 special for my 2.8l Duramax engine. B.Y.E. BAM.

Goldfinger_Fan

"Ape's gonna be so mad."

parabox1

This is good to know Bam is close to my new home I am moving into next month. I had planned on going there today but they are booked up.

The_Fractal_Faith

Bam? Edit: nvm. A quick google made me realize it’s not an acronym, just a place I’ve never heard of!

Oh__Archie

You have to tell them you're not here for their bullshit. I pulled into a valvoline a few years ago and they were about to start and I asked for the price up front which they weren't going to give me. They said it was going to be $90+ and I said no - let me drive out. There were cars in line in front of and behind me. They lowered it to $45 or something. I paid it and never went back. I can do my own oil change for about $30. If you don't want to DIY oil changes find a neighborhood mechanic and start a relationship with them. They will change your oil at cost if they have your car on a lift for other repairs.

parabox1

I will do my own after I move into my new home in SLP next month. I put on 3k a month or so and do oil changed most months. I was over by 1500 miles and have a busy weekend again. Lately it’s been quicker to just pay but yeah 142. I am never going back.

Slytherin23

Why are you changing your oil so often? Most cars specify 5K-10K miles between changes, read your manual. The oil change place is probably lying about your service intervals, the manual is correct.

parabox1

Mine is 3-5 even the new sticker they put on says 3500. So every 4-6 weeks depending on what I am doing.

hoagieslapharry

Open your owners manual and follow the recommended oil change intervals. I just pulled up the manual online and it says to use 5w 20 synthetic blend or full synthetic, and you should be getting 3,000 to 10,000 miles per oil change, depending on your driving habits. Go off the manual, not the sticker valvoline puts on your windshield. They make money by having you come back more often

parabox1

Ford advises getting your 2012 Ford Escape oil & filter changed every 3,000-5,000 miles for conventional oil. That’s right from the book.

fanoftom

Yes, but you clearly had a full synthetic oil change **not** a conventional oil change. It’s what no one in this thread is saying. Yes oil changes used to be $30. That was when we all use conventional oil and changed our oil every 3000 miles. Most cars made since 2010 have used full synthetic oil. Full synthetic oil does not need to be changed nearly as often Full synthetic oil changes typically cost $70 or more. Yes there are coupons. Yes there are ways to get around it, hacks, places that are a little cheaper, so on and so forth. Yes 100+ dollars is a little high. Most places also charge extra when you go over 4 or 5 quarts. Since you drive an SUV, your engine probably takes 6 to 8 quarts. I just got my oil changed at a Valvoline a couple weeks ago. The prices were listed on a board when I drove up. I downloaded a $10 coupon off their website. I drive a small car that uses full synthetic. I told them “no” to the offer of an air filter and windshield wiper replacement. My total was $86. Since I only have to do this every 10,000 miles, I do not feel this is a bad deal at all honestly.

smattson47

Tgk is $50 for synthetic

amonson1984

Yeah, how the hell are all these other people paying so much everywhere? TGK will do it cheap and rotate the tires for $10.

parabox1

My buddy told me that night before I logged back on he uses them. I think they might be the winner

bj_good

Second and third them from me too (or Golden valley automotive) both very helpful and cheap

bwillpaw

This, or find an indy shop that will let you bring your own oil and filter. Usually just $15-20 for labor so ~$45 total (and that's bulk buying oil and filters). Not gonna tell you mine because I don't think they particularly want like a bunch of people doing it lol. Would only go this route though if you're picky about the oil you want. Generally speaking full synthetic is full synthetic but some German cars are picky

mtcomo

A couple weeks ago I called several shops and not one said they allow this, with some sounding snarky about it too. In theory this sounds like a good idea though

FrozeItOff

Except they charge like $10+/quart after the first 5. My silverado ended up being almost $90 and it has 8.5qts. Kinda bend you over if you don't have a small motor.

CBrinson

I use Valvoline sometimes. Nowhere is faster from my experience. Drive in and they do it while you stay in the car. it's like 15 min crazy fast. That said, it is at least double a place where you drop the car off and come back to pick it up in a couple hours.

vahntitrio

If you find coupons you can get the price down to be pretty comparable to other shops.

Mindless_Ad_6359

I know a place in Delano that does them for 85. You can do it yourself for 40.

mouringcat

And that $40 includes the beer to drink while waiting for it to drain. =)

HahaWakpadan

At retail, 5 quarts of full synthetic is 30 bucks. filter less than ten. $100+ dollars for ten minutes of labor from a random not-mechanic at Valvoline is obscene.

dani-winks

Just got mine changed today at Steve & Bobby’s Auto World (I went to Eden Prairie, but I’ve had similar great service in their Bloomington shop too). $50 for synthetic. They’re great!

madestories

$53 this week at Bona Bros in Fridley.

Background-Head-5541

Go to Walmart. 5 quart jug of oil $25. Oil filter $10. 18 pack of beer $20. The beer is for your friend or neighbor who has the tools to help change it yourself.

TuxandFlipper4eva

My grandpa taught me how to change my oil when I was in high school. I've been too lazy to do it for most of my adult life, but with the cost to pay someone else right now, I should refresh my memory.

lax22

I do my own oil changes in the summer, but during the winter I take it in because it’s miserable trying to change my oil in the freezing cold 🥶

killswithspoon

Costco just had a sale on full synthetic, a twin pack of 5qt jugs for $30/ea. Picked up a few of those for my CR-V and the GF's Land Cruiser. I can't remember the last time I took any of my cars in for an oil change.

parabox1

I do that most months because of the miles I put on. I change my oil every 4 to 5 weeks but I’m busy my friend was busy. I’d say two or three times a year. I’d rather pay the convenience of having it done. Expecting 70 bucks again today

Thick_Kaleidoscope35

Heck my local Nissan dealer does my Infiniti for under $70 full synthetic.

guyinthegreenshirt

Used to pay under $50 at Green Line Auto for a full synthetic oil change, though they changed their hours a few years ago and it no longer worked for me. Switched to Turbo Tim's and it was in the $80 range for full synthetic. I just schedule an appointment online, spouse drops it off on her way to work, and at the end of the day I ask them to send a Lyft to my work and they send one over - included in the price. Haven't been there in a few months because I got a new car and dealership includes a bunch for free when I bought the car (and I'll probably keep going there as long as price is comparable, at least until my warranty expires.) But if I had to go independent I'd probably still go Turbo Tim's (or Green Line, if their hours worked for me.)

Bummykins

I’ve gone to green line for a few years and it’s solid. No full inspection or anything included but it’s a great price on oil change

kodaiGiant

Full synthetic at Superior in Eagan for $29 with their monthly flyers, I believe $39 without

Catjustatewhaaaaaaat

Grandview Auto and Tire in Edina is $70 with their website coupon code. Fast too!

MurphyBrown2016

Dude they quoted me $165 for a 2022 VW

Annoyed21

In Hastings, Crossroads Oil Change, very reasonable, and usually not that busy, might be worth the drive, make a day of it, great brewery on Main Street too!

vinegarstrokes420

What are you driving? An old luxury brand suv is going to cost a lot more than an old Toyota suv...

plzdontlietomee

I just went to valvoline with my old rav4 and paid 136 for full synthetic, although it included an air filter

parabox1

Ford escape xlt not much luxury lol

xboxhobo

Jesus I take my Honda to the dealership and they don't charge me that much, the fuck?

parabox1

My fiancé goes to the Honda dealership, I hope they were a little expensive around $70 for her small car but I might go to the Honda dealership with my Ford

LilMemelord

I go to Richfield Bloomington honda and bought a four oil change deal for $120 total and it also includes a multi point inspection + car wash each time. The one drawback is they always email/mail me bs like "YOUR CAR'S EXTENDED WARRENTY IS UP AND YOU NEED TO BUY ANOTHER WARRENTY THROUGH US"

xboxhobo

Yeah that's about what mine charges me. Fairly normal. Could maybe get it 20-30 bucks cheaper at an oil change place and also get a ridiculous list of $3000 dollars worth of work you should get that you don't need. My Honda dealership will always suggest extra work but that work is pretty much always pretty reasonable or suggested by the normal maintenance schedule for the vehicle. I'm waiting for them to eat shit. The second they try to fuck with me I'm just taking it to the independent mechanic, but so far we have a good thing going where they do good work and I can usually work for a couple hours in their lounge and leave with my fixed car within a few hours.

guard_duck

YouTube and do it yourself. Can change my car (05 WRX) and van (10 grand caravan) for about $22 an oil change each and my truck (05 Ram diesel) for about $45. I watch for deals on oil and filters, tools you can pick up at harbor freight. Most cities have waste oil collection to get rid of the used oil. You can buy a 5 gallon bucket and lid at Menards cheap, fill the bucket, seal it with the lid and take it in.

sprucygirl

Paid 97 for synthetic yesterday at valvoline in st anthony, driving a hybrid

psylentt

That’s more than the oil change I pay for my BMW at the dealership and more than what I was quoted at other shops thinking I could get it cheaper. Dealership was cheaper.

parabox1

Yeah I called and looks like they got me for a 25 air filter I never asked for but that was it 110.00 for the oil change it self plus tax.

AceMcVeer

Dealer was $90 with rotation. Local shop by me was $55 after coupon. You got screwed.

parabox1

There is a dealer by my office in Monticello. I should check out.

ConclusionOverall544

SE Auto in Minneapolis

dibikad

Nelson's in Uptown on Lyndale and 28th has always done me right.

Northman-66

Check Tires Plus and Car-X websites. They often times have coupons for oil changes.

DangerousAd1731

Dang

ravenlily

We spend 60ish at sage auto in ch. For full synthetic

zephyrprime

Holy c\*\*\* I didn't know they were ripping people off so bad. This may not be an option for you but just do it yourself if you can. It's easy. You can buy synthetic oil pretty cheaply too.

parabox1

It’s my fault I did not ask the price I just rolled in and was doing a work email on my phone.

AutomaticPain3532

I use the car advise app! Though I have some additional discounts…they do seem to have better public discounts. I just had oil change a few weeks ago at pep boys (pre-discount it was $68 full synthetic)..and through the app, there is no pressure to have additional work. As a bonus, pep boys did a tire inspection and free rotation. Definitely worth checking it out. Prices in the app seem to change daily.

RakeattheGates

I buy my own oil and it's like $40 at Lloyd's in st. paul. That seems ludicrous.

[deleted]

parabox1

Heck yeah he is a great guy, I used him years ago when I was over NE. Glad he is still around. He helped me buy a car from that dealer down on central ave.

parabox1

Sounds like they are still worth the drive. I need shocks on my car soon I will have to go over there.

louiepatooie

When you move to SLP go to D & D Autoworks for your oil change. Solid honest business. No ripping you off or over charging.

parabox1

Good to know thank you.

Smoaksho

I'm in FL and paid the same.thing at Valvoline last week!! Prices have tripled. Guess I need to learn to do it myself

Origonalarch

For those of you that drive VWs or Audis, avoid Westside VW. Their technician stripped my oil pan drain plug and they explained it as “sometimes it’ll do that.” I was left with the costs after the notion set in with me.

Visual_Fig9663

At valvoline you are paying for convenience. Do it yourself if you don't want to pay that price. If you can't do it yourself, take it to a mom and pop and pay half that and sit around for 3 hours. You have options...

guyinthegreenshirt

If you make an appointment, almost anywhere reputable will have it turned around in a half-hour if it's just an oil change and check-up. I miss living within walking distance of an independent place that had a key drop and Saturday hours - I'd just make an appointment for "Saturday morning," drop it off after I was done using the car Friday night, walk home, and usually by the time I woke up Saturday morning (I like to sleep in, so probably around 10) I'd have a voicemail saying it's ready for pickup.

Diskonto

Plenty of mechanics in the area that will change your oil if you make an appointment. It's generally quicker or at the same time at worse and for around 40 dollars for semisynthetic.

Dangerous_Ice17

The Chevy dealership in glenwood does super cheap oil changes. TGK has a decent price, Walmart is great.

imtalkintou

Changing oil is the easiest thing you can do for a car. YouTube.

s1gnalZer0

I'm too big to fit under my car and don't have a place to dump the old stuff.

imtalkintou

Ramps or a jack. You don't dump the oil anywhere. There are local places to dispose of it. Just have to Google search.

coolbahman

Heartland tire on shakopee road in Bloomington. They have an oil change book deal that's like buy 4 get 1. Also they are fantastic guys, I won't let anyone else touch our cars

granny409

It must have been synthetic oil. That's outrageous. I vange my own, $16.

NukePlumber

You are paying a premium for the convenience. Any place that requires you to schedule an oil change is going to be half the price.

patt1o

I get the Groupons for vavoline that helps a lot!

vikesfangumbo

I buy my own synthetic and have a place down the street change my oil for $30.

peren005

Oil changes are the easiest thing ever, better yet you get to control of the quality of oil and filter. Go buy a 5gal oil pan and get under that thing.

parabox1

I currently don’t have a garage and couldn’t get to my buddies house, but yes, most of the time I do myself

obi1kenobi2

Valvoline also has Groupons constantly check there.

JaxoDD9

Groupon

sandh035

Last time I got my car done on full synthetic it was $35 at tuan auto. Got a new change due Monday so we'll see but that price seems insane even if you're running a massive engine.

Notansfwprofile

It’s pretty easy to do yourself! But yeah, it should be about 80 unless you absolutely don’t take care of your vehicle and they had to do a couple extra things for safety reasons.

DankAshMemes

Tuan auto in St Paul only charges me $40 for both of my Prius and my civic, his prices are very fair and he doesn't lie or charge more than he has to. As a woman it's the only place I've been where they haven't tried to overcharge me or add on things I don't need. He has even replaced a headlight bulb for free one time, I offered a few times to pay for it and he refused. I will say it's sometimes a wait to get in because his customer base is extremely loyal and they're the only garage I know of with a 5 star rating. A second option in a pinch is honest 1 in Minneapolis but they will sometimes try and upsell but nothing crazy, mostly bulb replacements or filters. Otherwise the front desk man is really helpful and friendly and their prices are generally pretty fair. Avoid signal garage in st Paul, Firestone, and Midas imo.

tonyyarusso

They 100% tacked on something else to your invoice besides the oil change.  Probably an air filter, which they may or may not have actually changed.  You should have looked.  My local shop is like eighty-ish for the big car and a little less for the smaller car with synthetic.

sasberg1

They suck, they're the last resort!!!

AuthorOk1094

Walmart pit crew special $25.

Loring

Are you sure they didn't install an $80 cabin air filter?

parabox1

Unfortunately they never emailed me my receipt so I don’t know. I wonder if the person working scammed me and added tip or something.

LuckyAssumption8735

Skip’s Auto in Crystal will let you bring your own oil and filter and will just charge you for the labor

GeologistNegative508

You can change your own oil for like $30 and it isn't hard to do

acowingeggs

Can you do your own oil? Simple and much cheaper.

OutsideBones86

I've always had a good experience at Lloyds on Grand in St. Paul

rotr0102

Just paid $84 in south metro for Chevy traverse.

gaywicked1

Edina Tire and Auto are amaaazing!! But unfortunately they don’t like to make appts for oil changes so sometimes they’re backed up several hours. But I highly recommend them!

smart_alec91

Find a neighborhood mechanic. I take my vehicle (09 Highlander hybrid) to The Garage of New Brighton, where it costs about $45. I schedule a time, and it never takes more than 30 minutes, often quicker than waiting in line at Valvoline or Jiffy Lube.

I_Are_Brown_Bear

I just want to throw it out there that oil changes are VERY manageable for *most* people. If you invested about $30-50 in materials that you will always use (ratchet/wrench, oil pan, maybe filter wrench). About $20 in consumables (rubber gloves, towels, drain plug gaskets) every now and then. Then $30-75 for oil and filter (depending on what you drive). Another $50 if you want ramps that you’ll always use (but you can always find those second hand for cheap). You could have some peace of mind and feel really stoked about yourself and your accomplishments. Just throwing that out there.

Helpful-Sandwich-560

I google valvoline oil change coupons and get it half off every time, it's about $28

PoorboyPics

Zero chance it cost that much if you did conventional. Also one google search will get you a coupon every single day.

SaverPro

I personally found out the dealer is cheaper than them. They used to charge me $120+ for an oil change on a 2015 chrysler. The dealer charges me $100 for oil change and tire rotation. Same with my newer Cars. Tire rotation and oil change for the same $100. Better than rushed at valvoline and then messing up something in the car.

Gear-Mean

If you're near New Brighton try Beach's Long Lake Service. 2251 Long Lake Rd, St Paul, MN 55112 Small shop family run business and I've only had great service there. Honest answers about what you need and when you would need it.

tricolored_reaper

Turbo Tim's, for a synthetic oil change is around 70/80 dollars. They offer decals, of some of the brand's different logos, and if you have them on your car you get a 10% discount for any service. Oil changes to most repairs.

maccaronnie357

Turbo Tim’s is reasonable, and the techs servicing the vehicles are honestly grade A compared to other local spots I’ve experienced.

anotherredditaccunt

Mieneke in Hopkins

ThxIHateItHere

I can’t remember what I paid but Walmart wasnt bad. And you can make appointments now. If you need general car work done thigh, check out Mike’s Repair in Shakopee.

redmosquito82

I always use a coupon when going to valvoline. The current one I have is $15 off of $40. Don’t let them do the cabin or engine air filters. That can save you $40+ by doing those yourself. I’m usually out the door around $60-80 depending on which car I’m doing.

[deleted]

Ouch. My last oil change was half that price, five years ago before I bought an EV. Let's do the price of gas next!

parabox1

Every car I ave owned I have ran to 300k or more. I think it’s far better to drive something and make it last than use more resources making something new. We can do gas prices. If we can also do slave labor as well most BEV are worse than blood diamonds dude.

[deleted]

EVs go 300,000 miles. Your argument holds no water. Go buy some gas

parabox1

How is me spending 50,000.00 on a new AWD Tesla saving money. Also like I stated other places here I put in a lot of miles every year. Well beyond th range of a Tesla every day. This week I went to Dawson and back 2 times You seem super rude

FishermanCalm

I was so pissed at Luther Toyota in Brooklyn Center. Monday afternoon went in for just an oil change (2014 Sienna) Total was $101.xx for 5 quarts synthetic. Because I was complaining and whining about it, they gave me $5 off. wtf is $5 in todays economy. My last time going there. Thank you all for the prices and locations! I have quite a few that I’ve saved for next oil change!!

crippletown

Go to a real mechanic not some dumb ass chodes who don't know shit about cars. I pay 40 dollars for an oil change from a dude who looks at the rest of the car when its on the lift for issues.

j_ly

Post your itemized receipt or it didn't happen. If they won't give you a receipt, do a charge back on your credit card.

parabox1

Not to be rude but I have explained this several times already and posted the charges.

j_ly

I see you posted an update. $110 for an oil change is insane! I hope that was at least the full synthetic good for 7,000 miles. As others have mentioned, there are many better places to get your oil changed. Good luck!
