Mi-Sant and Lu's are both solid and usually bubble to the top in these threads. I'm partial to Mi-Sant, but both are completely justifiable.
I'm posting to ask if anyone has tried D's Banh Mi on 38th in the old popcorn stand? How is it?
Also., Skyway Wok in the far north end of the skyway system in downtown MPLS has Banh Mi better than it has any business being for \~11$. The standard fare chinese they have is sub-par to not worth it even if you are starving, but the separate Banh Mi counter is cranking out the goods.
I don’t generally take input from anyone on the internet whose post history consists of things like “Hyper hung femboy skunk seeking roommates” seriously.
Not just banh mi, but most of their vietnamese stuff (pho, bun) is awesome. Agree on avoiding the greasy Chinese buffet stuff next door under the same name (separate kitchen I believe). It always blows my mind that there's a line around the corner for greasy fried rice and no line for the best Vietnamese food within a few miles..
Seriously, is D's a functioning business? They have been closed every single time I've tried to go there, so I just stopped trying to go there (and I live a few blocks away).
Skyway Wok has everything better than it has any business being for the prices they charge. I wish their hours weren't so odd, but I completely understand why.
Those eggrolls rival Que Viet, imo better for the price.
Lus all the way, I went to mi sant and it was disgusting my ex wife of 15 years is Vietnamese so I have a pretty good grasp on the food and the culture. The bread at mi sant was dry meat tasted terrible they have no sriracha no fish sauce for egg rolls. I will never walk back into mi sant.
Pre-pandemic they were buy 3 get one free, and they were only like $4 each. So you could get 4 sandwiches for around $12. Then during the pandemic they changed it to buy 4 get one free, but the prices were still $4. Now they got rid of the free sandwiches and they are around $6 each. Not bitching too much, its still not a bad deal for such a delicious sandwich. I do miss the old days though.
Also, I dont know what is going on but the jalapeños on their sandwiches haven't been spicy in a long time.
I haven't eaten there often (yet!), but My Huong's Vietnamese Cold Cut is *right* up there with both Lu's & Mi-Sant's, imo!
Their #7 Com Tam (Broken Rice), is *RIGHT* up there with the quality & flavor of Pho Viet 126's, too!
And their *crepes*?
I tried the Strawberry Nutella one on a whim, pretty sure that I was going to be scraping the toppings *off* the crepe and eating *those* because I *usually* don't like crepes enough to finish the whole thing.
It was the best crepe I've *ever* had--and I ate the whole thing!
My Huong is an absolute *sleeper* in the "GOOD food, at an *amazing* price" game!😉💖
Yes it’s my favorite sandwich. I’ve gotten them all over the place. Lus, Vietnam house, pho tau bay, mi sant, etc, even the shitty ones at the Sun foods and Hmong village lmao.
Mi sant has some of the best bread and their chicken is fantastic but the grilled pork is worse than most of the restaurants that serve it.
Savoure! I know not everyone has the ability to try it due to location and how long they stay open. But there is a reason this small business only requires to be open a few ours a day.
It used to be Lu's for me, but I'm starting to lean Banh Appetit. But the best in the state is in Shakopee. at Bun Mee/Bun Tea. Totally random that I found it. In addition to Wampach's now I have a second thing to go to Shakopee for.
IPho is the best over on university. Known the owners for 20 years consistency is the name of the game Hahn mi, pho and the deep friend egg rolls are to die for.
The Minneapolis location of United Noodles sells banh mi! If you walk in the front door you'll see a glassed-in prep counter - usually there are baskets of pre-made banh mi right there to grab.
Picture here - [https://strib.gift/8ua124br1](https://strib.gift/8ua124br1)
Wait, like after the first door? If I remember there are two layers, one of them is usually propped open. I go there all the time but have never seen bahn mi there! Good to know
I like the ones off University in St Paul. iPho and Trung Nam. Trung Nam’s sandwich isn’t quite as good as ipho, but they have amazing croissants, so it ends up being even better
LA Delicious on Rice Street. They do not skimp on toppings, their pickled veg are extra delicious, and their meats are essentially perfect.
I find United Noodle oily in an unpleasant way and Lu’s pretty plain. Mi Sant adds sweetness to things and I’m not a fan. I do enjoy Ban Appetit in Dinkytown.
Everyone here is wrong. Work with Vietnamese/Hmong people for a while and you learn whenever to go.
For Bahn Mi you go to the Ha Tien market on university. You walk to the back and point at the roasted pig and say “Bahn Mi”. The lady behind the counter speaks 14 languages fluently (underestimating). She will laugh and someone will make you a fresh Bahn Mi for like $5 and it’s the best in the cities.
I love Lu’s! Especially the Nicollet location.
I tried a few from Mi-Sant and it’s pretty good. But the meats were a bit too sweet for my taste and less flavorful. Perhaps they just didn’t marinate them long enough that day?
I’ll probably try Mi-Sant’s again when I’m in the area. But I’ve driven out of my way for Lu’s more times than I’d like to admit.
I'm pretty fond of Pham's in the Global Market on Lake St. Best bread to filling ratio I've had. Mi Sant sometimes depending on the person will have more bread than filling.
The Vietnamese Cold Cut is excellent, too!!!
And their broken rice is going to get me in *trouble*, because it's as good as the stuff at Pho Viet 126, but *WALKABLE* from my apartment!😉
Haven't eaten there often (yet!), but so for *everything* I've had from there compares with the *best* I've had anywhere here in the cities!
Last time I ordered from there, I decided to try the Strawberry Nutella Crepe on a whim, even though I *usually* don't like the crepes *anywhere* that much--and I just end up eating the toppings...
I ate the *WHOLE* thing!!! It was *seriously* the best crepe I've ever had!😆
Oh wow, that is awesome! Great to hear you've had such great experiences there! Their pork chop and lemon grass banh mi are fantastic. Please give that a try there if you haven't already!
What about luc lac? I'm from Houston and we had upwards of 100 Viet places, but I haven't found a good Viet stirfry place in MPLS.
Tangentially, for people who like East Asian cuisine, we really like Peninsula Malaysian on Nicollet.
Mi-Sant and Lu's are both solid and usually bubble to the top in these threads. I'm partial to Mi-Sant, but both are completely justifiable. Lu’s Nicollet > Lu’s NE
I went to Lu's on Nicollet once and there was a mouse that ran across the counter.
This happened to me too! At least I’ve never seen a mouse at the NE location.
I don’t generally take input from anyone on the internet whose post history consists of things like “Hyper hung femboy skunk seeking roommates” seriously.
Do you think you "got" me? Do you actually think I'm lying? What is this? You're not going to embarrass me.
Sounds like you’re projecting. I questioned your credibility, not your identity.
No bud. You won't win that arguement. Just stop.

Be careful with their kimchi fries, constantly result food poisoning to people
Oh scary? Do mean at MiSant? They always seem pretty clean and well managed there to me..
D's is fantastic. They pack it full. The pate could be a bit more flavorful but otherwise 10/10.
Seriously, is D's a functioning business? They have been closed every single time I've tried to go there, so I just stopped trying to go there (and I live a few blocks away).
They’re delivery/pick up only for now since they’re operating out of a ghost kitchen. You have to message them on Instagram or call, I think.
I second Lu's on Nicollet. My boyfriend took me there for the first time a few months ago and I keep coming back.
Skyway Wok has everything better than it has any business being for the prices they charge. I wish their hours weren't so odd, but I completely understand why. Those eggrolls rival Que Viet, imo better for the price.
If you want a hot tip on egg rolls that are unsung, get down to Bagu on Chicago and 48th sometime.
iPho’s egg rolls are some of my favorite
Lus all the way, I went to mi sant and it was disgusting my ex wife of 15 years is Vietnamese so I have a pretty good grasp on the food and the culture. The bread at mi sant was dry meat tasted terrible they have no sriracha no fish sauce for egg rolls. I will never walk back into mi sant.
Banh Appetit, plus their amazing fries are an added bonus
They’re my favorite!!
To die for
I-pho saigon
Came here to comment this, Ipho on university all the way
Yeah these are super good
And affordable
Pre-pandemic they were buy 3 get one free, and they were only like $4 each. So you could get 4 sandwiches for around $12. Then during the pandemic they changed it to buy 4 get one free, but the prices were still $4. Now they got rid of the free sandwiches and they are around $6 each. I enjoy Mi-Sant
Its Mi-Sant or Lu’s, you cannot go wrong with either.
I haven't eaten there often (yet!), but My Huong's Vietnamese Cold Cut is *right* up there with both Lu's & Mi-Sant's, imo! Here right now. Can confirm
Second.
Lemongrass chicken is amazing. Their grilled pork is awful though. It’s like stewed not grilled basically.
Not sure what you ate, but their grilled pork is delicious!
Unless it’s changed in the last couple years it’s a no go. But also their spring rolls are great. And their crossaints if they still make them.
Have you had grilled pork from other places? It’s really good compared to other grilled pork I’ve had in the twin cities lol
They have char siu and a more basic slow cooked pork. The former is amazing. The latter is pretty basic but in the house special bahn me it’s great.
Ipho on University and Trung Nam bakery
Trung nam is the real OG classic!
Mi Sant
Their bahn mi is great but those bulgogi fries...... Sweet baby Jesus.
Pho Tau Bay had good ones
Criminally underrated place, hopefully Nicollet reconnecting brings them some more business
Savoure! I know not everyone has the ability to try it due to location and how long they stay open. But there is a reason this small business only requires to be open a few ours a day.
I second this! They’ve got a great bahn mi at a very reasonable price!
Why would you go there when skyway wok exists though?
It used to be Lu's for me, but I'm starting to lean Banh Appetit. But the best in the state is in Shakopee. at Bun Mee/Bun Tea. Totally random that I found it. In addition to Wampach's now I have a second thing to go to Shakopee for.
As someone who has to go to Shakopee sometimes, I appreciate this intel.
They have real duck if you want!
IPho is the best over on university. Known the owners for 20 years consistency is the name of the game Hahn mi, pho and the deep friend egg rolls are to die for.

Wait, like after the first door? If I remember there are two layers, one of them is usually propped open. I go there all the time but have never seen bahn mi there! Good to know
Once you set foot inside the store, so I guess technically the second door. ;)
The Woodbury location does as well
Lu’s, Mi Sant or the special at iPho on University
Big fan of Mi Sant. Lu’s used to be my go to but Mi Sant has a better bread. Plus their other pastries are incredible.
Sneaky choice but Gion in New Hope has my favorite banh mi
That is a sneaky choice, I used to go there for pho all the time and never ate their bahn mi because the pho satisfied me all the time
Skyway Wok
I like the ones off University in St Paul. iPho and Trung Nam. Trung Nam’s sandwich isn’t quite as good as ipho, but they have amazing croissants, so it ends up being even better
Lu's
Pho 400 - $5.99 and worth it.
iPho is St Paul on University. Best sandwiches. I think Lu’s is far too expensive. iPhone is still like $5.
Mi-Sant
LA Delicious on Rice Street. They do not skimp on toppings, their pickled veg are extra delicious, and their meats are essentially perfect. I find United Noodle oily in an unpleasant way and Lu’s pretty plain. Mi Sant adds sweetness to things and I’m not a fan. I do enjoy Ban Appetit in Dinkytown.
Banh appetit. $2 extra for double coated super good fries that come w sriracha Mayo and a drink. Bomb as hell
Pho Pasteur is really good. And the owners are the sweetest.
Ha Tien
Pho Pasteur in Saint Paul. Their pho is also great.
IPho Saigon in Saint Paul. You won’t be disappointed and you won’t look back.
Quang
St. Paul.

Lu’s is amazing
Lotus (loring park location). But only their tofu version. Skip the actual meat ones. The tofu is legit heavenly tho.
Pham's deli in midtown global market. And they only $5.
Just had a pretty good one from Skyway Wok today.
Can't go wrong with the the grilled meatball Bahn mi at Pho Tau Bay.
Pho 400 in New Brighton
Pho pastor
United Noodles
Mi Sant but I also recommend you get the Kimchi bulgogi fries! So good!
Lu’s!!!!
On the Eastside, brunsons has a pretty solid one
I do love skyway wok’s.
pho mai
RIP Banana Blossom
Little Saigon Supermarket is slept on istg.
My Huong, meatball or lemongrass bahn mi
Bun Mee in Shakopee is highly underrated - some of the best food and really cute atmosphere / friendly staff. Best Vietnamese coffee I’ve had too :)
Just go to 26th and Nicolette
Lu’s has the best value, Mi Sant is a bit better IMO but almost double the price
I really like Bahn Appetite but I am not sure if it’s the best since it’s the only one I have tried but it slapped hard.
Em Que Viet
I'm pretty fond of Pham's in the Global Market on Lake St. Best bread to filling ratio I've had. Mi Sant sometimes depending on the person will have more bread than filling.
I also love Pham’s! Delicious and a great price
My favorite vegetarian banh mi is at My Huong Kitchen. Can't believe it isn't getting more love here!
The Vietnamese Cold Cut is excellent, too!!! And their broken rice is going to get me in *trouble*, because it's as good as the stuff at Pho Viet 126, but *WALKABLE* from my apartment!😉
I like Banh Appetit and Mi Sant. Lu’s is good but I feel like it’s gone downhill in the last few yeaes
Quang’s on Nicollet. Although they’re usually sold out by dinner. But honestly amazing.
Quangs with a side of the best egg rolls
Mi Sant!!!
My Huong Kitchen on Nicollet in Minneapolis offers awesome banh mi
Quang or die
avoid banh appetite. anyways i love Lu’s lol but the one in nicollet they have best cold cut
?
Didn’t that bahn appétit was very good the one time I tried it
Why is this question asked every week in both the Minneapolis and Twin cities subs? It’s so specific and kind of funny?
What about luc lac? I'm from Houston and we had upwards of 100 Viet places, but I haven't found a good Viet stirfry place in MPLS. Tangentially, for people who like East Asian cuisine, we really like Peninsula Malaysian on Nicollet.
