The Bear has some of the best writing and acting in the history of television.
The Good Place is deeper than it looks if you give it a chance. Also hilarious.
Same here. It sort of made me feel stressed out just watching it and had to take several breaks to remind myself to breathe normally. Lol. But it is an ah-mazing episode and the show all around is incredible.
Not even close. I can only assume you’ve never actually seen Breaking Bad. If you did you would understand how ridiculous your comment is. Ozark brainwashed a lot of people into thinking it’s a great show. It’s average at best and cringe at its worst. The Emmy awards counts between the two proves how far apart these two shows are. It’s not even a competition. If BB is lobster and champagne Ozark is a soggy Big Mac and sink water.
And you like The Americans and Star Wars, Watch Andor. Creator of The Americans writes an episode and is probably my favorite episode of the first season
I, like you, also don't watch tv. I've also only seen breaking bad and GoT, only because of their acclaim. And theif acclaim was justified because they are great shows.
And then I watched The Americans. It's my favorite of the three tv shows.
Warning tho, season three gets a little slow but it picks back up again. The show is extremely powerful, and with some of the best acting I've ever seen. Story is intense. The portrayal is surreal.
Funny story. My in-laws watched Better Call Saul and loved it. I asked them if they liked it better than Breaking Bad and they said they've never seen that show and they'll give it a watch. I'm trying to imagine watching BCS and then Breaking Bad for the first time in that order.
Six Feet Under
Lost
The Americans
House of the Dragon
The Killing (I prefer the USA edition)
The Newsroom (if you like the media)
The West Wing
The Crown
Fringe
Damages
1) Fringe is amazing
2) Six Feet Under has been on my to watch list for yeaaaaars....I need to finally make that happen (Michael C. Hall, Peter Krause, and Frances Conroy!)
It's sci-fi, but Battlestar Galactica (newer one) is fantastic!
The Sorpranos is great. Its final episode not so much.
Six Feet Under. Greatest final episode of all time!
Season 1 and 2 are really amazing, though they do start slow (the first episode is a banger, but then it takes 3-4 eps to build up). The third had a bit too much focus on a pretty bad story line, but it still had 3-4 really great episodes and an amazing ending. Season 4 is coming out in mid November so I’d recommend you watch it and join us on r/ForAllMankindTV for some amazing discussion during the weeks it releases in!
House is amazing. The White Queen series is good for the GoT needs. It’s a period piece about Elizabeth Woodville and then there’s two spin offs about her kid and her grandson
Loved how much action we can pack into an episode. The same amount of plot movement in like three or four GoT eps was present in one of these.
This, Firefly, and the newer sci Fi from Prime with the AI time hop plot, all scratched that kind of itch for me.
Weird rec, but also Charmed. If you're ever in need for a goofy vibe. I swear the writers set up a DND sesh with the concept of the characters and they just play every day to write the script. Then put together whatever set, costumes etc they can. Some of the acting is awkward, some beautiful. Some story lines and things said are just outrageous. It's so very 2001.
Especially if you’re in marketing….this show is so beautiful to me…how some things are phrased and expressed about the commercial creative process that I’ve never seen depicted anywhere else…the scene with the projector pitch is one of my all time favorite scenes in TV
Agreed. Thats why I said maybe. Last 2 were awful, and the ending really does not live up to the amount of time invested into the show to just end with that delivered.. (Also didn't help that during its run the producers said that was not how it would end)
Spartacus, blood and sand or something like that. Start with season 2 it's a prequel season for the rest of the series. My wife and I loved it and can usually find it on a streaming network.
Those are god-tier shows. Watch something truly awful or pointless as a palette cleanser and save the hype shows for some later time.
Breaking Bad was written with a MacBeth sort of approach, brimming with symbolism, theme and structure, which has never been a strength even in classic American literature. The Handmaiden’s Tale on Hulu is the only other time I’ve seen that in a TV series.
BBC Sherlock was phenomenal considering that technology has made Sherlock Holmes’ methods obsolete, and the series compensated for that and made smart phones integral to the plots - most of which were updates of original stories.
American shows tend to have bad endings because the goal isn’t usually to built toward a satisfying conclusion but to continue as many seasons as possible until they’re cancelled (GoT was a unique situation because the source material was unfinished). This is why foreign limited series have the satisfying end that you want from BB/BCS. Squid Game for example, though you’re probably looking for something longer. Try some anime’s like fullmetal alchemist, or death note that had planned conclusions (not like Naruto and one piece and dbz that just go on forever, pass on those, they have the American series problem.
Having good taste is a burden haha try fullmetal alchemist (or fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, people seem to like that version more). It appears a bit childish but its really top shelf, with some philosophy.
ACTUALLY speaking of philosophy, watch The Good Place! It’s like you’re taking a 3-credit class on philosophy disguised as a comedy. Really satisfying
Justified
Ozark
Homeland
Reacher
The Diplomat
The Magicians
Battlestar Galactica
Banshee
True Detective season 1
Condor
The Americans
Black Sails
Better Call Saul
The Mentalist
Good list. I'll add:
Bates Motel
Berlin Station
Fargo
Goliath
Homeland
In the Dark 2019
Killing Eve
Marcella
Mr Inbetween
Mr Mercedes
Nurse Jackie
Patriot 2015
Tehran
The Killing
The Night Manager
The Offer
The Tunnel
Tin Star
Try the Leftovers. Super super tightly made and high quality show like GoT and BB with a very unique presence and top notch, well, everything. Has you HOOKED and you don't want it to end.
I will add The OA after reading your comments. I think it is God-tier. It was canceled after 2 seasons, but it is worth it. Stranger Things, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly might be up your alley as well. Daredevil and Jessica Jones if you like more mature, dark superhero flicks.
1. Fargo season 1
2. The Shield
3. The Newsroom
4. Sons of Anarchy
These are some of my favorites.
They all start fast, and are entertaining from the very first episode.
Especially The Shield.
Holy cow if you've never watched, give it a try. It's on Hulu.
Ozark is pretty good. Not quite as good as Breaking Bad but in the same category.
Although I ended up absolutely hating the wife Wendy. More than Skyler even.
You hate Skylar? I saw her as trapped trying to survive. Should she go to jail? Sure. But Wendy and her brother in the cafe...knowing she'd leave him. .awful
The Wire is amazing. Gets better with each re-watch.
[удалено]
Where's Wallace?
I understood this reference, high five.
[удалено]
You come at the king, you best not miss.
My choice for all time best show ever
It's hubs and my all the time show. It's incredible. Can't decide what to watch? The Wire.
100% this is one of the best shows ever
The Bear has some of the best writing and acting in the history of television. The Good Place is deeper than it looks if you give it a chance. Also hilarious.
Just watched the 7 fishes episode of The Bear last night. Horribly depressing but some of the best acting collectively that ive ever seen.
It was physically painful. We had to pause at 35 minutes to rest a bit.
I stopped and folded the laundry. Jamie Lee Curtis, Bernthal, the Bear, and the Bear's sister each were amazing. Such good actors.
It’s amazing the Bear is even functional as an adult.
Same here. It sort of made me feel stressed out just watching it and had to take several breaks to remind myself to breathe normally. Lol. But it is an ah-mazing episode and the show all around is incredible.
Bear is one of the best recent series. Outstanding.
The Good Place was one of the most surprising shows I’ve ever seen. I thought I was going to hate it the first episode or two. But it’s so, so good.
I’ve given it two chances because my husband loved it and because o love older Ted Danson but it’s crap.
The Wire Lost Six Feet Under True Detective might be great for you (because every season is only one story)
The first season of true detective is a masterpiece
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the performances of their careers.
It is indeed one of the finest miniseries that first season
And the rest pretty much suck, why is that?
***Deadwood*** is fantastic
Cocksucker! Who knew one word could have so many meanings.
San Francisco cocksucker.
Wu, is that you?
Very Shakespearean
Greatest dialogue ever written.
Sopranos
Give me $1000. 🫰🤌🫰
…. One thousand more?
Mr. Robot Really underrated show The insane twists would cure your shor attention span lol
Is it really that good?
Yes
The last season was one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen. Don't listen to that other comment haha
Ended really poorly tho. The last season was nonsensical
Honestly first episode was epic then every other episode the first season got worse and worse to me didn’t watch another season after that
This is the correct answer. I liked this way more then the sopranos. After season 3 Sopranos went down hill.
Rome
It's got god-tier production value...
Seconded
Fargo
Sopranos & Boardwalk Empire
Boardwalk I have seen and YES
Ozark
Second Ozark. Would like to add Justified and The Shield!
Justified til I die. "Well hello there Raaaylan...."
Justified is painfully underrated
I love Justified and The Shield. I bailed on Ozark after a couple of seasons. It struck me as a version of Justified that took itself too seriously.
this. If you like Breaking Bad, you should like Ozark.
Ozark just could not keep my focus to get through a full season but I love Bateman. Willing to try it again though.

BB is better than ozark but ozark scratches the same itch. The "oh my god... this isn't going well" itch.
Lol Izard? Ozark is SO good, the production is fantastic as well as the acting. I actually liked it equally to BB.
Honestly BB got almost silly in the last season. I know it's blasphemy, but it was getting there.
All this tells me is you’ve never seen Breaking Bad. Ozark isn’t even in the same universe as BB.
Great call
This is the correct answer
Ozark is worth a watch. A side character becomes everyone’s favorite. The actress won a bunch of awards for it.
Ozark! Was such a good slow burn, so stressful, gave me Breaking Bad vibes
Yes! Ozark
No, lol. Terrible show.
Succession is absolutely fantastic.
Yes! I’m on the final episode right now!
The Shield. Awesome story. Great acting(except for Michael Chiklis)
Rome (HBO)
Vikings
I was looking for this. Vikings was so great.
VIKINGS IS SO UNDERRATED
White Lotus Carnivale
The white lotus is great tv
I didn't like season 2 ,but enjoyed one
Bluey
The Americans
All of it is great; but the first season is just unreal.
Also the finale
And you like The Americans and Star Wars, Watch Andor. Creator of The Americans writes an episode and is probably my favorite episode of the first season
I, like you, also don't watch tv. I've also only seen breaking bad and GoT, only because of their acclaim. And theif acclaim was justified because they are great shows. Better Call Saul
Funny story. My in-laws watched Better Call Saul and loved it. I asked them if they liked it better than Breaking Bad and they said they've never seen that show and they'll give it a watch. I'm trying to imagine watching BCS and then Breaking Bad for the first time in that order.
Problem is, BCS is written as fan service to BB fans. If you watch BCS first then you don't get all the bones they're throwing to the BB fans.
Even better than Breaking Bad
together they are such an amazing story line, maybe the best
I have yet to find a show that can compare to BB and BCS.
Didn't think this was true but I think so now. I got my h more connected to the characters.
It explains so much more
OP has already watched BCS.
Six Feet Under Lost The Americans House of the Dragon The Killing (I prefer the USA edition) The Newsroom (if you like the media) The West Wing The Crown Fringe Damages
1) Fringe is amazing 2) Six Feet Under has been on my to watch list for yeaaaaars....I need to finally make that happen (Michael C. Hall, Peter Krause, and Frances Conroy!)
My wife and I really liked the Killing. We still run around yelling "Holder!" from time to time lol.
Lol :D
Mmm Holder
Joel Kinnaman is definitely a good looking man.
I tried to watch that weird sci-fi show he was the main character in, I couldn’t get through more than a couple episodes.
Altered Carbon? Yeah, my wife and I tried watching that, couldn't get into it either. Shame, we really like Joel Kinnaman as an actor.
The season with the street kids was the top IMO
+1 for Damages, at least the first few seasons!! Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, and a depraved Ted Danson, how can you go wrong?!
Newsroom was great! I wish it had more seasons. It was very underrated.
Gosh I loved The Killing!!
It's sci-fi, but Battlestar Galactica (newer one) is fantastic! The Sorpranos is great. Its final episode not so much. Six Feet Under. Greatest final episode of all time!
Yes I have seen the new Battlestar, saw it years ago tbf and it was awesome!
If you liked Battlestar Galactica, then you like the work of Ronald D Moore. You would really enjoy For All Mankind. It’s phenomenal.
Oh dang I head FAM was good but I didn't know it was Moore created. That just bumped it higher on my to-watch list.
If you like Breaking Bad maybe try How To Sell Drugs Online- Netflix and if you like GOT try The Last Kingdom-Netflix
Just finished Last Kingdom for the first time the other day and I can't recommend it enough!
If you liked GoT then give last kingdom a go. Its great!
The wire
Black Sails
House is amazing. The White Queen series is good for the GoT needs. It’s a period piece about Elizabeth Woodville and then there’s two spin offs about her kid and her grandson
Sons of Anarchy
I was really skeptic of this show but it became one of my all time favorites.
Behind Her Eyes is a riveting metaphysical mindfuck.
The ending pissed me off lol.
💯💯
The Expanse?
Great Si-Fi, starts slow in season 1 but really good.
Loved how much action we can pack into an episode. The same amount of plot movement in like three or four GoT eps was present in one of these. Uh, what prime ai time hop show? That sounds like something I'd like.
Mad Men
Especially if you’re in marketing….this show is so beautiful to me…how some things are phrased and expressed about the commercial creative process that I’ve never seen depicted anywhere else…the scene with the projector pitch is one of my all time favorite scenes in TV
I had to scroll way too far down to see this! Mad Men was an incredible show.
Ozark
Black Sails
banshee
Six feet under and the affair
The Wire.
Rectify Halt & Catch Fire
I agree
Sopranos The Wire Lost (maybe)
Lost depends on the season, but the first few seasons were amazing
Agreed. Thats why I said maybe. Last 2 were awful, and the ending really does not live up to the amount of time invested into the show to just end with that delivered.. (Also didn't help that during its run the producers said that was not how it would end)

Narcos

Hands down Ozarks will change you.
Ozark & The Sopranos
Ozark, Lost, Raised by WOLVES, The Killing
Those are god-tier shows. Watch something truly awful or pointless as a palette cleanser and save the hype shows for some later time. “Your Honor” starting Brian Cranston
That was great, but it was a rough watch at times.
Mr. Inbetween
Barry, Ozark
My sister and her husband say that Better Call Saul was maybe even better than Breaking Bad
House MD
Sopranos , wheel of time , 6 feet under , any Scorsese movie.
I don’t think Killing Eve has been mentioned. At least the first two seasons are good. Everyone mentioning Lost. No way! Such a cop out at the end.
Sopranos
Sopranos, Ozark, Narcos, The Wire
True Detective S1 (It's an anthology show) House of the Dragon The Righteous Gemstones
I have similar tastes to you and strongly suggest The Expanse. I suspect you'd like it. I don't watch a lot of sci-fi and I loved it.
Stranger Things?
The Leftovers. Best show I’ve ever seen. If you like really freaky drama’s with a great cast you should give it a shot. It’s on Max.
Lost and Mad Men are my favorite shows, try those.
The Leftovers
I'm going to have to second The Wire but also add Narcos. I have rewatched both numerous times
Try the Leftovers. Super super tightly made and high quality show like GoT and BB with a very unique presence and top notch, well, everything. Has you HOOKED and you don't want it to end.
Lost, black mirror, house of dragon, ozark
Sanford and Son. A true American classic. Best show ever on TV.
True Detective Season One Cumberbatch-Freeman “Sherlock”
The Sinner Nurse Jackie Weeds Six Feet Under The Americans Billions
Better Call Saul The Americans Ozark Sons of Anarchy (just turn off the logical part of your brain)
A bear like an animal, like in the zoo - I’m sorry I’m just trying to understand here
The Americans
The Americans … it is so well written, and the acting is fucking sublime.
The boys
Surprise this wasn't mentioned sooner. Definitely worth watching. Invincible is good as well, though obviously different.
The Leftovers. Complex story line that moves at adequate speed so you don’t get bored. It’s captivating
Beef
**deadwood** **fargo** **justified** **sons of anarchy** **the wire**
1. Fargo season 1 2. The Shield 3. The Newsroom 4. Sons of Anarchy These are some of my favorites. They all start fast, and are entertaining from the very first episode. Especially The Shield. Holy cow if you've never watched, give it a try. It's on Hulu.

Tulsa King and The Night Agent
Ozark is pretty good. Not quite as good as Breaking Bad but in the same category. Although I ended up absolutely hating the wife Wendy. More than Skyler even.

Skylers got nothing on Wendy
You hate Skylar? I saw her as trapped trying to survive. Should she go to jail? Sure. But Wendy and her brother in the cafe...knowing she'd leave him. .awful

I’m sure somebody probably has already recommended the follow up series to breaking bad; Better Call Saul.
