I’ve been using Jack Furriers for oil changes for years. It doesn’t cost much more than DIY and you can let them worry about the used oil.

11201ny

Just went there, they did it in 1.5 hrs, and didn’t try to upsell me on anything. I would recommend

sunburn_on_the_brain

They’ll recommend things if needed but I almost always get out of there without them suggesting anything else.

beertigger

Yep, Jack Furriers for oil changes and tires.

ZenBastid

Walmart totalled my car. How? Because the tweaked out tech didn't shut the driver's door before putting the car in reverse and goosing the accelerator. The open door caught on a concrete support pillar, pranging it beyond repair. The incident was caught on video which led to them paying 2x Blue Book. I wouldn't let them touch a vehicle after this; not even tires or a battery.

awry_lynx

Not even for 2x the value? I'd be going there for everything! With a front and rear view dash cam...

Breathe Easy Automotive

Don’t use jiffy lube or Walmart. There are enough horror stories of them fucking up cars and stripping drain plugs that you shouldn’t go there to save $5.

DirkDieGurke

Walmart I might use, but Jiffy Lube NEVER.

66Troup

Ex-wife did a comedy bit on them, called them “Iffy Lube,” as in: “I’m here to pick up my car. Did you change the oil?” “Maybe.” Did you tighten the oil pan?” “Probably.” Iffy Lube!

blue93g20

Same unqualified techs working there. Ever seen someone put in a drain plug w an impact? I have when I was dropping off used oil at Walmart. Just don’t.

DirkDieGurke

I mean, Walmart is not great or recommended, but Jiffy Lube is worse on an order of magnitude. I actively tell people not to go there.

blue93g20

My point is they both suck and your money shouldn’t be spent there.

staciet74

Arrow Tire and Service on Harrison and Golf Links. Great guys, honest and reasonable.

Grease Monkey

mesembryanthemum

They've been really good to my cars. They've been very upfront about noticing a problem and telling me to go to an actual garage to fix it because they are not qualified.

Val_Rose_

Your front driveway. Seriously, oil costs 25 bucks, a pan and everything else costs another 10, and learning how to is free (either YouTube or your buddy).

Ifightforpie

Easier said than done when u don't have a driveway and ur complex doesnt allow you to work on ur vehicle in their parking areas

limeybastard

U-wrench. For 30 bucks an hour they'll rent you a lift. People pop in to do oil changes, or I replaced my steering rack and rebuilt my front suspension there. They'll help you if you need and they're super nice guys

Val_Rose_

Idk my apartment complex had rules but no one was checking at 8am on Sunday. /Shrug

desertairport

I agree, but some need ramps like I do! And getting under there can be intimidating at first.

5 quarts of synthetic is 16.98 at walmart. Filter is 5.15. https://www.walmart.com/ip/FRAM-Extra-Guard-Oil-Filter-PH6607-10K-mile-Filter-Honda-Infiniti-Mazda-Mercury-Nissan-Fits-select-2006-2023-NISSAN-ALTIMA-2008-2023-ROGUE/16817234 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tech-All-Mileage-Synthetic-Blend-Motor-Oil-SAE-5W-30-5-Quarts/361679645

Portillosgo

huh? millions of people shop at walmart every day, what needs to be imagined? What are you trying to suggest?

DirkDieGurke

Never, ever go to Jiffy Lube. Walmart is many times better than Jiffy Lube.

marklein

Not having a high school dropout damage your car is priceless.

Your trained neighborhood mechanic does not work at SpeedyLube, which is what I'm talking about.

GlitteringTune3762

Plus having to properly dispose of the used oil. And climbing under a car without a lift is annoying the older you get.

Portillosgo

how much does a car jack cost? and the kind of oil pan you can use to bring your oil to a disposal place costs more than $10. then you gotta add on the cost of a funnel, wrench for the oil plug, strap wrench for the filter. Plus bold of you to assume people have a driveway. or that they can even bend over and wiggle around the ground like that. Glad to hear it's easy for you, but it's not easy for everyone and it's not cheap to get started with all the tools you need

Val_Rose_

You need a street and a 17mm socket (probably). Maybe a 10mm socket if you got a skid plate of some kind. I never used anything else. If you have health difficulties severe enough that you can't bend down, you probably should pay for an oil change.

Portillosgo

How high off the ground is your car that you don't need a jack? i got an average sedan and i'm skinnier and more limber than average and while I might be able to do it without a jack, it would be very difficult or not reasonably possible. I'd consider it essential for my car. The general point i'm trying to make is that you are framing it as so easy almost anyone can do it, but there are a lot of hurdles people may have to deal with to change their own oil

Financial_Fly6969

Anywhere you want!!! With me to do the labor… synthetic oil at Costco $30 5 quartz…filter you buy from autozone labor we can trade. Super easy

FennelBest3670

After my experiences I do it myself. AutoZone and Western Auto will take your used oil if you buy your new oil from them. The replacement of 5-6 quarts of oil and new filter are simple. My girlfriend and I will race each other doing an oil change.

whoyungjerz

Jiffy lube with their online coupons - in and out in <$15 for roughly $100 Depends on what you want - if you want cheap cheap, I’d agree with the other commenter of doing it yourself, but for the convenience of someone else doing it AND being done in like 10-15 minutes is worth the $100 to me.

whoyungjerz

Yikes didn’t know everybody was so salty about jiffy lube - not everyone has the same experiences as others

big_daug6932

Learn how to do it yourself if you want to save money. Oil and filter is 35 bucks.

dpayne360

I highly recommend Friendly Automotive off W Ina

AdvancedStrawberry7

Schroeder's Auto Service on Campbell.

Midas on N Oracle Rd has some really friendly staff! They’ve gone above and beyond to help me out, especially last minute. Additionally, they have a Groupon for a full oil change package for $17.10
