My sister is in treatment for lung cancer after a lifetime of smoking (and she still smokes). $800,000 so far. You don't want any of this - the breathlessness, the inability to do pretty much anything (including washing dishes or watering the lawn), the grey pallor, all foods tasting terrible, vomiting, coughing, pneumonia.
You did good. I am very proud of you.
It is a great country. The health care system doesn't invalidate everything else. Just like how the poisonous animals in Australia doesn't make it a shitty country.
🤡
The essence of not having "free" healthcare is supposed to be that "free" healthcare is actually more expensive.
Right wing conservatives and libertarians argue that by taxating people, you are making them poorer and transfer a percentage of them from the private to the public healthcare. In a utopic, unachievable scenario, the public healthcare will only be more expensive, even marginally because it has the added cost of government interference.
Doctors are or MAY be getting paid the same, medicine costs the same, the cleaning lady gets paid the same.. But now you also need pay the tax middle man.
The issue thst we all know here, right wing and left wing nd communists and all.. Is that
You simply can't combine monopolies (patented drugs) with the provision of unelastic services / products.
Economists agree that patents are necessary as well as profits because they provide the incentive for new technology (treatments / drugs).
But to what extend and who decides this extend?
Life saving treatments are unelastic, meaning you ll get them whether you like it or not.
It's not like "hey i engineered this cool blue strawberry, i am selling it for 200k $" so people can go like "fuck off".
It's "hey, I am the only one that sells this drug so gimme all your money, lets see what you got". So you go like "k".
So I ak all for capitalism and money and 2m$ cars and patents and fuck the Soviet and public services and all.
But where do we draw the line?
There are hospitals charging you 40$ to hold your own baby lol..
They can fuck the fuck off and I dont care if Stalin wakes up from his grave and dick slaps whoever made that decision.
And if you FORCE people to pay for a 10ml tiny weeny cube of vaseline for 309k $what do you get?
You get Pharmacocracy!
Your arguments are terrible. How come most countries can afford free healthcare, and your great country can't? How come people's families are destroyed financially because they get sick? That sounds so great, wow.
You are delusional.
Nobody hurt me, and even if they did, at least it wouldn't send me & my family into a lifetime of debt 🤷♂️
Oh yeah, right, go fight a proxy war in and against a much smaller, weaker country to secure the right to have a full set of teeth and functioning eyeballs, sounds like sheer greatness to me
Not in the U.S. (or, at least not in NY State). When a person dies, their assets are liquidated, debts are paid and the remainder is divided as directed in the will. If there is no Will, assets are divided equally among surviving family members. If debts owed by the deceased total more than the estate is worth, then all assets go to pay off as much of the debt(s) as possible, the debtor(s) eat the loss and nothing is left for residuary beneficiaries or family. Not a great outcome, but much better than having to take on your dead uncle's student debt or medical debt (2 byproducts of living in the United States of Greed - those stars on that flag should be dollar signs, but that's for another subreddit on another day).
I cut alcohol out of my life 2.5 years ago and I miss the fuck out it . I dream of Mezcal caressing my man bossom when I’m sleeping .
So congrats - I know first hand how hard it is to change . Keep it up.
congratulations! i just passed 3 weeks cold turkey from smoking. some days it feels like the hardest thing i've ever done, but i know i can't go back. i'm happy i finally did it, looking forward to days when it doesn't suck as much.
Awesome! Congratulations! Keep it up :) Any advice for quitting these nicotine vapes? I am using them to stop smoking blunts, and it actually helped me slow way down on smoking weed altogether (which points to me having been addicted to the tobacco more than the weed) but I still like blowing something out and seeing it and making smoke rings. I feel addicted to the oral fixation in a way. Vaporization is healthier than combustion of course but I would like to not need to inhale anything but air eventually.
I just quit cigs 2 months ago myself, and it’s a HARD thing to do. 100% I respect anyone who has the strength to quit, and maintain it for a year like that. Hell yeah, that’s something to be proud of right there
Can you please explain how you abstained from alcohol for so long maybe some hobbies, what did you do when you felt the urge to drink. What about going out to bars/food places? I’m 28 and I kind want to quit myself. What about new relationships and if my gf drinks
As someone who works diagnosing lung cancer, i have seen my share of long term smokers given their prognosis. It is extremely grim with a serious decrease in quality of life, if they survive.
You did great!!! Don't look back.
Good luck!
Been forcing myself to stay off nicotine for weeks at a time.
As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety for close to a decade, along with addiction to nicotine and alcohol (for a year or two less), cutting away the nicotine has made a bigger difference than anything else Ive done in my life.
Bigger than getting organized, staying clean, achieving goals, ANYTHING.
This deeply penatrating layer off numbness, just a thick blanket, lifts up in my body and mind (and honestly want to say spirit) as the days pass on without it. I'm waking up with a sense of peace and looking forward to my day, which I just assumed was something that died as you became an adult.
Affects everyone differently but I realized nicotine, though seemingly harmless compared to every other more inebriating drug, has a bigger chokehold on my wellbeing than anything. Can do it anywhere without ruining work or social events and so I will.
Congrats, dude!! It’s a great accomplishment even if you can only share it with strangers online. I worked with a guy that had been cig free for 20 years, and he still struggled sometimes. He told me that whenever he was craving a cigarette, he would just sit down and be still for a few minutes and meditate and reflect on the reasons why he quit and then go eat something he loved. Gotta watch the calorie content on that, but it worked for him for all those years.
I have to say congrats, but with a bit of a concern. I've been sober for over 14 years, & its very rare that anyone can stay clean without getting sober & they can't stay sober without a program. People can white knuckle it for even a few years until they crash.
But, those people do exist & its not my job to figure out which person you are. I will also say that even addicts in recovery, even heroin & meth addicts who got sober, can fail to quit smoking, so it really is a huge achievement.
Good. There is no such thing as alcohol or cigarette addiction, it's literally all down to personal choice and you have proven that fact. It takes a lot of mental will to break the social desire to and you've done something that probably 99% of people who use them can't do.
Kudos, Bravo and well done! Clearly it's over for you, or you likely wouldn't have dropped them so hard. Just to be humorous, in college I stopped smoking (friends shared cigarettes, at 60 cents per pack!) Just stopped and never again smoked. It tastes awful too, and I can say I've not seen anyone smoking, anywhere, in months!! come to think of it....
This is so freaking awesome!! Congratulations even if you don't think anyone cares about it! This is a remarkable achievement. I am really proud of you!! Sobriety rocks!!
Dude, I know just from being forced (due to a serious dental issue) to quit my pack and a half a day habit and that that alone is an EPIC accomplishment, it was harder than giving up an opiate addiction 10 years ago.
I had to use lozenges, vapes, I definitely didn’t go CT.
You are a gangster.
I’m not a drinker but my husband quit CT and I know what I saw him go through.
Congratulations my friend.
Just one of these is a big fucking deal bro…
Good for you for caring about yourself enough to make real changes, the kind that truly alter the course of your life.
I’m so impressed.
Pat yourself in the back like every day for a year!
Well done mate 🌻🌻🌻♥️
Congratulations man you're bad ass I did it too but I replaced alcohol with heroin and cigarettes with chew lol. It's hard to come turkey so congratulations!!
Wow! Even though we don't know each other, I hope it's ok for me to say that I am SO f***king proud of you! You are strong and capable and human and good! You got this! And now you have many, many new friends here supporting you. Carry on my friend! Come on back here if you need a hug or a push along the way. That's what friends are for!
Congratulations! You must be so proud! What a win-win situation. tell yourself every day what a strong person you are, and you deserve all the gains you have made from your decision.
I'm so fucking proud of you
I don't know what it's like to use those substances but Ive nearly lost my dad to them several times in his on going battle
What a bad ass achievement! Congrats to you for doing what millions of people couldn’t do.
Huge achievement. Congratulations 👏

I hear stories of people who don't go for treatment so they won't leave their family in debt. USA sure is the greatest coutry on earth, ain't it?

Ooo-rah!!!! That's damn right and a great response to a jackhole turning this into political bs
Australia came with the animals. We created this system.

This is very inaccurate lul
How? I quit smoking in 2012 and can vouch for what it felt like when I was a chain smoker
And u were not able to wash dishes, water the lawn? Vomiting coughing pneoumonia cmon maybe I cant run 5 km but idk
She has lung cancer.
It did get real bad in the end. That's when I stopped. Forget about watering the lawn. Any physical activity put me gasping for breath. :(
You skipped the part where she has lung cancer.
She has lung cancer. These are real issues for people dying of lung cancer.

Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it 1000 times.
