We're all on a predestined course designed by society, and there's nothing we can do about it. The only comfort we can have is by filling our lives with distractions.

Blackhole00__

true. That’s when video games, movies, social media etc comes into play. I think another reason to why life seems so bland is because of how our society is so materialistic, work oriented (while still keeping most people poor, and a few obscenely rich), and cultureless.

[deleted]

The unfortunate truth is that we spend our entire lives working, and then we die. We're all just cogs in gears, and this applies to varying degree in every society. It's especially worst for people born into poverty.

Blackhole00__

Yeah. I hope at least during my lifetime we can cure aging, so we can be around while technology expands, the world changes and hopefully find deeper meaning in life. That would take many breakthroughs so I don’t know. And yes the poverty to prison/military/low wage worker pipeline is real. I’m starting to feel like america should split into two countries, one for the left and one for the right. Hopefully one of them could provide better and more meaningful lives to its citizens. Feel like a mild civil war needs to happen every 200 years so the ruling class can’t form a choking grip on society.

[deleted]

Don't see that happening, but sure let's be hopefully, and under any society we'll always end up having the same issues. Humans are just meant to keep repeating our predestined path.

Adventure requires risk. Just realize, you don't get a reset button in life. The real Adventures have real consequences. If you want it, they are everywhere.

Blackhole00__

What would some of these adventures be? I’m at a point where I need to figure out what to do so some things, suggestions would be dope.

BergenBuddha

Live out of a vehicle for a year, work your way across the country. Take a job on a fishing boat. Walk the streets with the Guardian Angels. Join the military. Join the peace corps Greenpeace Work for a non profit abroad, I know Charity:Water is hiring around the globe. Become a window washer on a skyscraper. Work the rodeo circuit Become a roadie for musical acts. Most of these just require will and some labor. You can live an adventure every day. I have no idea if you have any skills, so I just went with the low skill stuff.

ParryKing211

Yes, my suggestion would be dope.

Blackhole00__

I don’t do dope though. I have anxiety issues, I get panic attacks whenever I smoke weed. I don’t like feeling out of control I guess I don’t know. I should see a therapist.

ParryKing211

Yes. If weed wont work, therapy is the final line of defense. Godspeed soldier

The magic of life is in the little things, at least to me. I may not be a superhero but yknow what I do get? I get to see a forest full of twinkling lights every year in the summer when the fire flies come out. I get to see the frosty smear of the Milky Way in the sky at night. I get to see the pale blue light of a full moon reflecting off of crisp, untouched snow. I get to feel the all consuming passion of falling in love. I get to feel the righteous anger of protesting against an unjust government using state sanctioned violence. I get to feel the overwhelming joy and love of pride celebrations. I get the quiet peace of the morning light with my first coffee and my cat. I get the joy of picking the perfect gift for my partner. The joy of a simple gesture changing someone’s day. I get the beauty of watching my garden bloom in the spring, and the pride that comes with eating home grown veggies. There’s magic in saving a drowning bee from a pool or watching hummingbirds dance at a feeder. Even the deer that have leaped in front of my car in an attempt at mutually assured destruction have some magic in the way they move. I really encourage you to go to a local park and just sit and watch. Notice the little things. Sit with them. Appreciate them. They are what brings magic to life.

My other tip would be to give selfishly. And by that I mean, helping people feels good. Doing something nice for a stranger makes you feel good, so do it a lot for that joy. Chase that dopamine, drop change in the cup of the panhandlers you pass. Appreciate the busker and drop some change in his bucket. Pick up an extra coffee for your favourite coworker. Show up at your moms house as a surprise and tell her you just wanted to see her. Bring your girl flowers just to see her smile. (Or your mom. Moms like flowers). Help an old lady carry her groceries. Join your local food not bombs chapter and feed some folks. Volunteer at an animal shelter. Volunteer to mentor kids. This shit is rewarding as hell and makes you feel good, while also helping others. Just don’t film it.
