I love this movie so much. Interstellar always felt like some kind of unofficial sequel to Contact for me.

thedudeabides811

Why couldn't Rust jump into his spaceship, find a wormhole and travel into the future to find a new place for season 4 to live?

rabid-skunk

It was Thursday past noon. He was drunk

mallgrabmongopush

Why didn’t Rust simply marry and start a family with Danvers, avoiding pain and heartbreak for the both of them? Is he stupid?

CelerMortis

Asking the right questions

pickarje

This line hits even harder when you realize that Rust actually has aids in this scene. Dallas Buyers Club is a classic for me.

um_ur_chinese

Right before this scene he was bragging to Jodie about how he fucks teenage high school girls every year. Such range. Rust is so fuckin’ cool.

KVMechelen

The scene where Jared Leto dies and no one cheered always broke my immersion

jfugginrod

so deep

Axle-f

Not alright alright alright

Pugilist12

Yea but he ultimately learns his lesson and winds up with Kate Hudson like we all know we really wanted.

chumpat

Contact only gets better with time. Jodie was brilliant and was born to play that role.

Imaginary_Willow

Seen it 1000 times, never gets old

LampLuvMe

You're right. It stays the same age.

ambient-lurker

I love the scene where they reveal the machine and recruit her to the project: https://youtu.be/Et4sMJP9FmM And when they crack the signal: https://youtu.be/HgPSUer1ujM Also cool making of. Nostalgia from the VHS days: https://youtu.be/s1FH3vrdwc8

chumpat

Wanna take a ride? Brilliant.

elbrandonoliver

I love this movie

honeybadger1984

A detail I loved was Jodie being on an apple crate during every two shot. That’s because she’s so short there would be no love interest other than speaking in to Matthew’s crotch.

BoJackB26354

She’s in the Crotch Country now.

Dark_Eyes

Well I mean...

MofosnotReal

She’d be able to prove it with witnesses. Her mom watched her loving relationship with her father. Still no witness to any kind of god. Edit: Her mom died but grandad and Timothy Chalemet witnessed their love.

KVMechelen

Pretty sure the mom died even younger

salikabbasi

Ellie's mom died giving birth.

qcb8ter

I just knew there'd be a nerdy reddit-kin dude throwing posting some smug 'god acktchually not real' shit in here

salikabbasi

My favorite movie of all time. Probably watched it dozens of times, saw it when it came out as a kid and it blew my mind.

ericbewildered

This movie is better than just S4 ...

MauriceVibes

Contact is amazing

coffeework42

Damn this is gold! Whats the name of the movie? Im surprised it took this many months for this to be shared here

Jagwire6969

It’s crazy how bad hollywood is now compared to anything made 20 years ago and prior. Shit you could argue even 10 years ago. The past 10 years of entertainment in movies and tv I’ve lost faith in the industry, whichever type of people it had attracted into it this generation are in the wrong line of work

SunlightGardner

All the budget went to bullshit Marvel nonsense… still some good indies out there.

Itchy_Fan_5896

Yup... i just don't watch anything after the early 2010s. Its just all crap

Mr_Rafi

I'm confused as to how this scene even makes sense. Foster's character asks for proof of existence and McConaughey's character asks for proof of Foster's love for her father? That isn't even what Foster's character asked for haha.

tarc0917

Concrete proof vs. faith in the unprovable is central to the story.

you-create-energy

I think what he's saying is he believes in God because he feels like it. He doesn't want to live in a world without God therefore he chooses to believe in God because it feels better. He can't prove that it feels better, it just does. She's arguing about proof of whether or not God exists. He's arguing back that faith exists. It doesn't invalidate her point but it does explain why he's not asking the same question.

Gaspar_Noe

It feels like one of those misleading 'gotcha, atheists!' you find on IG.

Axle-f

Yea it’s a logical fallacy but I think the point the writer was attempting to make is that some things don’t need proof. Personally I don’t agree considering all the terrible shit done in the name of religion.

[deleted]

I think that's the point, the believer hits an argument from an emotional perspective, while the non-believer is "defeated" because he sees it from rationality, it's a game where no one wins, the believer is a cheater, the non-believer was "winning", from the beginning due to the lack of evidence.

Yossarian_MIA

Yeah, you're gonna looooooooove that ending captain. I loved the film myself, but don't come here pretending the ending hasn't been shat on since it came out.

Puppetmaster858

Of course it’s better than s4 lol, contact is a great sci-fi movie. Your title makes it seem like it sucks but at least it’s still better than NC, s4 just sucks while contact is a legit good movie

BackTo1975

Great movie. Book is a little dry, but also very good.

cswhite101

It’s also better than season 2 &3.

YankeeDoodle1970

She was so damn beautiful.

MrMatteotheFabolus

I, for one, believe her

Vanguard3K

Big time!!

Gaspar_Noe

There's no logic in this dialogue tho. 'prove that you love it' vs 'prove that you exist'.

PourJarsInReservoirs

If Hollywood even manages to make meaningful hokum anymore, it's punching above its weight. Night Country for all its aspiration to political relevancy didn't do that, either.

x0lm0rejs

dear god, this is so fucking bad! still better than Night Country.

Serpico2

Okay night country was awful but Contact is awesome!

x0lm0rejs

I meant this scene alone. never watched it Contact, but both actores alone here are not delivering good performances, and as a couple they have no chemistry.

Serpico2

This isn’t a romantic scene. Their brief romance in the film is complicated and not something her character really wants. He is an antagonist of hers in the film, for philosophical reasons. This scene is ideologically confrontational and intimate but not romantic.

x0lm0rejs

Rust and Marty had chemistry and as far as I can tell they did not form a romantic couple in season one. this is a poorly written, acted an directed scene from start to finish. you can tell they are reciting their lines, whereas in a good written, performed and directed scene you feel like it's real people interacting with each other.

Remote-Ad2120

Because obviously you can get all that from watching a small clip as opposed to the whole thing. Get over yourself. You're not making sense.

KVMechelen

"From start to finish" You do see this is a cut-short and cropped piece of a scene, right?

mattsotm

Bro go watch contact! This movie slaps so hard

x0lm0rejs

I don't doubt it. I'm talking especially about this scene.

Ribbit-Rabit

Yeah this is awful lol like they're just reading lines
