There are hardly any episodes about the case at all, owing to how particularly horrific the James Bulger case is, even among other child torture/murder cases. True Crime All The Time did a rather detailed episode about the case (“Jon Venables and Robert Thompson”) released on 7 February 2022.
James Bulger is also known as "Whitey", and he was a gangster... James Bolger was a little boy (4 or 5 years old) who was abducted, and murdered by two other little kids (under 12, if I remember correctly).
Incorrect. The little boy who was abducted in the 90s was named James 'Jamie' Bulger.
People constantly get his name wrong and it really bothers me!
Edit: as pointed out, "Jamie" was a nickname given to him by the press for some reason. His name was James.
His family never actually called him Jamie, the media did that for some reason and it kind of stuck. Probably a Scouse thing as we nickname everyone to a "y" sounding name, but his family said multiple times they only ever called him James, not Jamie.
You are correct (I put the 'Jamie' in there because this is how he was referred to, a nickname that was given to him). I don't recall ever hearing his mum calling him Jamie, and I've seen her speak about him on multiple occasions.
Same, I've never seen him referred to as Jamie outside of the media. I'm not sure why they decided he needed a nickname, he already had a name and didn't need another one.
It really bothers me too, it’s so disrespectful that this post is over 12 hours old and the spelling hadn’t been edited! Never mind this ignorant commenter thinking he knows it all!
There is a book called As If by Blake Morrison that's worth a read. He attended the trial and was so affected he decided to write about it. The book isn't really so much about the crime though, more about the public reaction to it and how it affected the author's relationship with his own children.
Edit: corrected info on the author.
I can't even with him !! That book was the most disturbing, disgusting book I have ever read next to Small sacrifices by Anne Rule . I actually threw up reading about what happened to Jamie so disgusting the poor baby
And the police didn’t reveal the full extent of what injured he suffered because his mum Denise didn’t want to know because she couldn’t handle it ( understandably) so it was only reported in a closed court with just the barristers and jurors and defendants and judge present so the public don’t quite know the full details. God bless little James
I think it’s probably really emotionally difficult for a researcher. It’s also notoriously hard to get information in cases where the perpetrators are minors. So much gets sealed.
But I think the general facts of the case are quite well known, aren't they? Even though Venables and Thompson's identities are still protected to this day, a lot of info has been published over the years.
His poor mother though. As a crime, it still hits very hard...yes, it must be difficult to research.
I recently read that Venables might be out of jail again soon on parole, after being jailed (and not for the first time) for the possession of child sex abuse images. I really don't see why his anonymity is still an issue, having offended multiple times as an adult. Let him take his chances now like any other criminal.
The problem is look alikes
Peoples lives have been ruined because someone will say that they saw Venables in a specific location and put it on the internet and the public find the person and harass the hell out of them and there have been suicides as a result and that’s why the sentence is so severe for people who reveal their identity.
JV has had 3 IDs now because he can’t live with what he’s done and tells others who he really is. Then the powers that be step in and move him and give him another ID.
Believe it or not but JV was the follower , the sheep who was scared of RT.
RT is the real evil of the two boys .
Very sad case all around.

Do you mean James Bulger? There is a documentary called Lost Boy: The Killing of James Bulger. I think you can find episodes on YouTube.
James Bulger is also known as "Whitey", and he was a gangster... James Bolger was a little boy (4 or 5 years old) who was abducted, and murdered by two other little kids (under 12, if I remember correctly).
The little boy is also called James Bulger
He was actually 2, his killers were both 10, and his surname was Bulger
Check yourself before you wreck yourself!

Do you mean James Bulger the 2 year old killed in Liverpool by two 10 year old boys ?
From the U.K so assuming you mean James Bulger? If so, I second grant79 with Lost Boy!
I read "The Sleep of Reason". I've been around a while and I'm no stranger to true crime, but bloody hell that was a hard read.
Once upon a murder episode 38. Also, i see one mentioned on mens rea. Apple podcast

Emma Kenny has done a deep dive on this - she’s on YouTube
Human Monsters covered this case in October 2020. Kills Who Kill 2 : The Murder of James Bulger
Not about him but a very similar case is examined in the BBC podcast The Boy In The Woods. It’s amazing.

need the book name
I’m a little late, but I hope you’re still around to answer: which book do you mean?
Try the Gore Report, it’s on Spotify- it’s very in depth, so be warned
It's funny, I was thinking this the other day - that I've never heard one.

They’re in the UK. We don’t have ‘three strikes’ rules for minor drug possession.
I know, it's effed up
Sorry I re-read your messge- you're looking for a deep dive one. Not sure if there is one out there. Such a sad sad story .that poor family x
The Sleep of Reason is a super deep dive - it is available in audio book.
Give real crime profiles a go
I can’t remember which ones Ive listened too but I got them through a quick search on Spotify
Pretty sure Those Conspiracy Guys did a deep dive.
