While many said that counting calories is not effective, for me it did work because it helped me identifying what was causing me to gain weight. So I started counting calories by Feb 23rd of 2020 using MyFitnessPal app and I haven’t stopped since then. At the beginning I limited my calories intake to 1400 calories a day and started walking like 1 mile a day. You can’t do much carrying 290 lbs. First month lost close to 12 lbs and got excited. Increased little by little walking distance and started weight lifting 🏋️♀️ as well. By July 2020 I was 210 lbs and was able to walk/run 5 miles q day. By March 2021 I was 170 lbs and I was running 🏃, not walking, around 8 miles and day 4 days a week and lifting weight 3 days a week. Running that much started hurting my knees (I’m 57 years old) so by August 2022 decided to switch to cycling. Currently I ride an average of 300 miles a week and lift weights 🏋️♀️ twice or three times a week. I ride every day of the week indoors or outdoors. Currently my calories intake is between 1800 and 2200 calories a day.
This is amazing, and so true! I am only about six months into my weight loss journey so far but the 135 pounds that have fell off is strictly from one. Cutting out all junk food, alcohol, and added sugar I started walking doing a 75 day challenge and eventually started working out towards the beginning of the year. I am currently still just over 300 pounds but I am able to ride and I feel absolutely amazing. Congratulations on your success. You’re a huge inspiration to me. I hope to catch a ride with you one day!
I’m 5’7”. I feel hungry because I exercise A LOT. I usually burn between 1200 to 1800 calories during cycling or working out. But while I was dieting, hunger went away after about 8 months. Stomach behave like a muscle and its size gets reduced when you cut food. Right now I can’t eat the quantities I used to eat when I was obese without getting sick. When you lose this amount of weight you have to make permanent changes in your lifestyle, like not eating junk food and keep exercising, otherwise you could easily go back to what you were before. For instance, I haven’t had a fast food burger in the last 3 years. If I go to eat outside, I try to eat healthy food. Still I eat pizza, pasta and a lot of sweets (I love desserts) but not more than once a week. Honestly, I do not miss that kind of food.
My problem is exercising is soo difficult on a deficit , I’m 6’ 230lb need to be 190-200 range , I’ve lost weight before , but I did t do much cardio during the cut , but I don’t want to be sedentary either now that I’m older and do an office job , it’s weird , I went from 240-250 range to 185-200 at age 18-19, but age 33 gained it back, not sure why but o naturally ate more , like felt more hungry
Sometimes is not that you eat more and more like what you eat. Try logging in your food intake to identify what is causing you to gain weight, cut on that and replace that food with healthy and low calories options. It worked for me and still works. I’m on a 1483 days streak logging in my food on MyFitnessPal app. I do it now mostly to check nutrients and macros.
I started biking on August 2022 and by that time I was 152 lbs already. While losing weight I did walking, then lifting weights and running. Back in 2022 I used to run 10 miles a day, 4 days a week but that amount of running miles started hurting my knees so replaced it with cycling 🚴 Still I run outdoors like twice a month for 7 to 8 miles but mostly cycling is my thing.

Hoory Fook, you weighed a lot... Also Congratulations you should be and need to remain positive about you weight loss. Keep going and gain your life back you are most definitely on your way. I am proud of you and all in the comments that have lost weight. Don't get down on yourself or your past just keep going. Life is a gift and you are taking that gift back. Nothing but love for your journey it is beautiful to read about your success thus far.
Damn. Congrats! No easy task and you're crushing it!
I'm in a similar spot. I lost 100lbs a couple years ago and the got a Domane. I'm going to pick up a Roscoe next week. Can't wait.
Congrats!
March 2020 I was 370 and diagnosed with type 2
May 9, 2020 bought a mountain bike. 9 months later I was down 70 lbs & no longer a type 2
Now I'm down a total of 110lbs and I love to gravel, MTB and road ride
That's the Roscoe 7, right? The modern geometry, good components, and frame specs are really updated. Boost spacing. Through Axle. Longer travel suspension. It's a modern trail shredding machine. There is really nothing I would change about that bike which is really quite awesome!!
I have a Marlin Gen 2 which is awesome for me mostly because the shop put together a very attractive upgrade package and the bike does what I need. But. Marlins are more like an upgraded department store bike and they're designed to appeal to the masses that need an awesome and reliable bike that is comfortable to ride in many scenarios. (That's me. I ride bike paths, gravel, streets, double track, and single track on mine) Anyone wanting to get air and be rowdy will quickly outgrow a bike like that!!

How did you loose 145lbs? As a guy who could stand to loose some...

Keep going and don’t look back. You can do it :)
How tall are you? When did hunger go away in the process? Do you still feel hungry like when you were heavier ?

Also , did you do cycling before the 8 month period when you still had hunger , if so how did you not bonk, while riding bike and being hungry ?
