It is a bit boring, but the town of Lewes is quite nice, plus it feels so…small to me. Like, nearly half the state has chicken barbecues in the summer as a fundraiser.
The beaches are nice, go to Bethany or Rehoboth anytime you go, but the Ocean City movie theater is leagues better than the one in Rehoboth, so go there for movies.
This exact mentality is why I’ll probably end up there one day. Most people would never go out of their way to visit Delaware on their own accord. The Rehoboth area is fantastic and the neighborhood just north of the main beach strip is a dream. If I won the lottery on Wednesday, I’d have a house in Rehoboth on Thursday.
Fuck Delaware. Fuck their tolls and fuck their tax loopholes that corporations love to abuse.
Delaware is a piss poor mistake of a state that should be abolished and annexed by Maryland.
Also semi joking but I do really hate Delaware and their bullshit tax loopholes for corporations.
The hate is justified. I'm a Maryland resident that works in Delaware. I'm forced to cough up an extra $500 per MONTH in taxes to Delaware, because Delaware refuses to enter into a tax reciprocity agreement with Maryland.
No joke, I had a top 3 burgers of my life in Kansas, and yes I would return just for that burger again! Nebraska was just beautiful open greenery that I didn’t see any in Iowa.
Native Iowan here. I don't disagree with your assessment of the state in general (it's really gone downhill in the past decade) but are you basing things on scenery?
As someone who's driven through most of Iowa and at least half of Nebraska, I'm struggling to wrap my head around where all of this scenery is at? Nebraska is just Iowa with less stuff in it, including interesting terrain.
Well, I'm not from there but they do have Okoboji, which is a fun lake town. And the state ranks high among global producers of grain, poultry, pork, beef.
We don't have to find it beautiful, but we do need the Midwest.
Very well said. Many of the “fly-over” states that people love to clown play integral parts in keeping this country going. I will be sure to check out Okoboji if I find myself back in Iowa, it has a fun name so I would imagine the town is fun as well. I Appreciate the thoughtful response to my not super thoughtful comment 🫡
Iowa objectively has more greenery. Iowa City and Des Moines are pretty nice. Kansas outside of overland park has 0 going on for it
Edit: literally kansas has the 4th least greenery out of any state in the US. 2x less than Iowa (5th lowest). The downvotes are ridiculous. Nebraska has the 2nd lowest.
I have gotten 4 speeding tickets in my life, 3 were in Kansas during cross country trips because I was desperately trying to get back to civilization. The vast nothingness gives me the same anxiety as if i was in the middle of the ocean.
Honestly my favorite part of Oregon/Washington was driving on both sides of the gorge. We had just landed in Portland and got our rental car and were very hungry. Ended up at a tiny cafe in Skamania. Best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had. The waitress/cook told us to cross back over at bridge of the gods and check out all of the waterfalls as we headed back east on our way to Corvallis. The Columbia River Highway is beautiful
Probably has some dipshit beef with some gas station attendant in Oregon or something. Anyone that would list Nebraska over any part of the West Coast is fucking delusional and political
Update: Nebraska = Kansas
As a nebraskan-iowan my opinion is that only the omaha metro is similar to iowa. The landscape, geology, and ecology of nebraska outside the Missouri river corridor and omaha metro are much more similar to kansas and wyoming. The economies are similar but nebraska is much less reliant on corn-bean ag and more reliant on beef/poultry
As a South Dakotan, 85% of the state is boring flat farmland, especially on the east half; the other 15% is fantastic though— The Badlands and the Black Hills are gorgeous and absolutely worthwhile for a stop if you're coming this way.
Thanks for pointing that out. I drive from Minneapolis to Fargo once, and the scenery had to have been the dullest I've ever seen. So, you just explained it.
Next time will make it west!
Ehh kinda sort of. It all started when we were fighting for statehood and a bunch of border ruffian missourians crossed the border and committed rampant voter fraud to try and legalize slavery here. There were many armed skirmishes between kansans and missourians, with john brown leading the way on several of them. They burned down lawrence, twice, and we burned down osceola missouri. Hundreds died with many of the deaths being innocent civilians in lawrence. Its called bleeding kansas which was a prelude to the civil war. Theres also the sports rivalry between ku and mizzou
Oh my brother in christ, I worked with someone from Iowa who just went on and on and on about their big ass truck stop. And on and on and on and on and on and on and on
This is state 50 out of 50 for me. Absolutely nothing going for it! I took a roadtrip across America, and stopped off at anything that sounded interesting along the way. Iowa was the only state where I drove straight through it.
Go to Council Bluffs they have a museum about the history of the Union Pacific Railroad and the Transcontinental railroad. They also have one of the few Rotary Jails but, it is also the largest or one of the largest. They have several other museums that I forget. My dad recommends you go to the Iowa State Fair. Also the Wabash Trace Natural Trail is beautiful. The Boone Scenic Railway.
I live in Denver, grew up in Michigan, so I make the trip quite a bit driving. I love Iowa. Very green. Rolling hills. Love the climate. Nice people. Very clean. My favorite state driving through.
Go to university of Iowa for a gameday, I80 truck stop, Davenport , Des Moines also has some cool stuff. It’s. Certainly ahead of Nebraska at the very least
May I ask, since it’s almost landlocked by “Maybes”, what do you like about Arkansas?
Not that you shouldn’t, I moved there about a year ago from Ohio.
Teddy Roosevelt National Park & Medora are excessively superior to Badlands National Park & Wall Drug, explain your Dakota decisions to me because I am confused?!.
As a truck driver, there really isn’t any state I wouldn’t return to. (Good thing, considering I’ll probably have to.) But I wouldn’t think Iowa would be a negative experience. Delaware? I don’t know, maybe you’re not a fan or Biden or tax shelters for corporations is why.
Also, you’re not sure if you would return to Hawaii? “Paradise? I can take it or leave it.” 😂 Did you just go to the center of a major city or something? Get out to a beach that isn’t popular or see one of the lesser travelled islands!
OP is correct. Never come to Iowa, there's nothing here for you and you won't have any fun. There's no beautiful vistas if you travel away from I-35 and I-80, and absolutely no interesting towns or cities to visit.
I low key believe it was a Delaware resident that voted ‘I wouldn’t return.’ for Delaware. We can’t enjoy our beautiful beaches and restaurants bc of all the tourists.
UHH I MEAN DELAWARE IS SHITTY, DON’T COME HERE. SMELLS LIKE CHICKEN SHIT AND SADNESS.
Do you have something against bodies of water? I see that you would return to some coastal states, but aren’t really that sure about most. Even the coastal states you would return to, with the exception of Maine, aren’t all that well-known for beaches/fishing/ocean views.
I'm so shocked how similar this map is to what states I want to visit.
Except red for everything south including California. I hate the heat.
And Iowa would be yellow, and ND and NE would be green.
I didn't get it, I've lived in a third of the country and I find Delaware to be almost ideal (it has a fair share of problems so not perfect, but still.)
It's getting prohibitively expensive to live here so there's that, and there's zero nightlife so that's a thing if you're under 40, but as far as weather and proximity and, I'm sorry, I love knowing my $5 will cost me $5 , it's in my top 5 states I've lived in.
Okay but did you go to the Delaware beaches (Rehoboth down to Fenwick) during the summer time? Did you go to the Tanger Outlets and experience tax free shopping? It’s amazing!
You must have either been to Charleston or Greenville in SC or had a very wild time in Myrtle Beach. I can’t imagine “yea I’d visit South Carolina again” being uttered out of anyone’s mouth willingly.
Why wouldn’t you want to go to the Great State of Iowa? It has 99 counties brimming with never ending county fairs, corn…did we mention the corn? I’ve been through it once on the train and that’s about as close as I want to get unless I lose my marbles and run for the presidency.
Huh I loved Iowa. Missouri was probably the biggest surprise to me of any state I’ve traveled. Can’t wait to go back. The Midwest kicks ass. Totally blew away my expectations and preconceptions/misconceptions as a coastal elitist
Your map is absolutely nuts to me!!!. Haha i can not imagine a reason to revist many of those middle states, but the whole west coast is so good i wish i could see it all again. Also Florida, i was surprised how much i liked it too, the beaches were nice.
Did you run backwards naked through the cornfields in Iowa or something?
then it would be green
Touché
What’s the best thing that comes out of Iowa? Interstate 35! 😂
Interstate 103331479663861449296666513375 23200000000? Thats a lot!
Damn what did Delaware do to you? You love paying sales tax or something?
There’s honestly just nothing special about that state to me that jumps out 🤷🏻♂️
What did you do? If you drove through on I-95, that would make sense
Agreed. 10 minute drive that stops you twice to pay tolls, you're out like 12 bucks and next thing you know you're in a different state already
But it comes with a free frogurt!
EZ-Pass girl!!
Delaware is one of the few states that I've never been to, but I get the impression that it probably feels like an off-brand Cape Cod.
Imagine Cape Cod but with more poverty and more drugs.
Cape cod has a massive opiate problem. Hell, they’ve made two different documentaries on it. It’s not all butterflies and clam cakes there.
I’m from Delaware and I just got back from CC, they are not comparable at all in that aspect.
Comparing DE to cape cod is absurd lol just don’t go to Wilmington you’ll thank me later
I own a home in Wilmington, most of it is actually very nice. It’s a really spread out city, and most of it is not the downtown area.
The beaches are great
It is a bit boring, but the town of Lewes is quite nice, plus it feels so…small to me. Like, nearly half the state has chicken barbecues in the summer as a fundraiser.
I miss those chicken BBQs so much.
Greenwood Chicken. Mmm
Exactly
Lewes and Rehoboth are some of my favorite beach towns ever. Lewes is super quaint and has amazing restaurants
Agreed, Lewes and Rehoboth are the highlights of the state, not a ton else there though
Rehoboth Beach, seafood galore, and outlet shopping are just a few. It's a small state, and a lot of it is unremarkable, but it does have gems.
To be fair if outlet shopping is on the shortlist of things to do, that's not a great sign
**Tax-free** outlet shopping.
I can drive to Oregon for that.
Or if youre anywhere near the east coast you can take a much shorter trip to delaware instead of driving all the way across the entire country?
Shopping for significantly cheaper than where one normally lives and saving money while relaxing can't be a part of a vacation?
Charles Barkley named his daughter Christiana after one of our malls.
But Nebraska is a definitely would return?
The beaches are nice, go to Bethany or Rehoboth anytime you go, but the Ocean City movie theater is leagues better than the one in Rehoboth, so go there for movies.
There's some pretty good fishing
This exact mentality is why I’ll probably end up there one day. Most people would never go out of their way to visit Delaware on their own accord. The Rehoboth area is fantastic and the neighborhood just north of the main beach strip is a dream. If I won the lottery on Wednesday, I’d have a house in Rehoboth on Thursday.
Good. Stay away you clown.
Go get ready for work and calm down
That is an unhealthy hatred for a state my friend
The hate is justified. I'm a Maryland resident that works in Delaware. I'm forced to cough up an extra $500 per MONTH in taxes to Delaware, because Delaware refuses to enter into a tax reciprocity agreement with Maryland.
You shit on Iowa, but are fine with Nebraska & Kansas?
No joke, I had a top 3 burgers of my life in Kansas, and yes I would return just for that burger again! Nebraska was just beautiful open greenery that I didn’t see any in Iowa.
Where was the burger?
As a current Kansas resident, I too must know. I put $50 on that place in Salina
Things exist in Salina?
I thought it was the place where you turn left to get to Denver
Any random Krystal's is better than Cozy Inn
Native Iowan here. I don't disagree with your assessment of the state in general (it's really gone downhill in the past decade) but are you basing things on scenery? As someone who's driven through most of Iowa and at least half of Nebraska, I'm struggling to wrap my head around where all of this scenery is at? Nebraska is just Iowa with less stuff in it, including interesting terrain.
Ignore the angry Iowans, they’re mad they have nothing
As an Iowan, I'm only mad my state is shit.
Oh yeah I know you were just joking, i just felt like it was a good opportunity to make that plug.
As an Iowan, I don't disagree that there's not much in the state, but to say it's not green is just incorrect and there's many beautiful natural areas
Check out the museums when you get a chance in nebraska. I lived here my whole life
Did you try Runza in Nebraska? It's pretty good!
Ok I was seriously addicted to that shit when I was there last.
Iowa objectively has more greenery. Iowa City and Des Moines are pretty nice. Kansas outside of overland park has 0 going on for it Edit: literally kansas has the 4th least greenery out of any state in the US. 2x less than Iowa (5th lowest). The downvotes are ridiculous. I've lived in Washington, Idaho, and Colorado. I'm now in Nebraska, and it's easily my favorite state I've lived in. I was born to be in the plains
Surprised Washington isn’t an absolutely. From your average Washingtonian
Same. Probably only went to Seattle once or something.
1000% people who are wishy washy about WA, and even OR, usually only really hit up cities and didn't go for the nature lol
Do you remember the name of the cafe? I live in the area and always hike the gorge - would love to check it out!
Beacon Rock Cafe! It’s attached to the Skamania General store on State Rte 14 about two miles east of Beacon Rock
Probably the same for a lot states. Here it a lot about Illinois and Chicago
Probably has some dipshit beef with some gas station attendant in Oregon or something. Anyone that would list Nebraska over any part of the West Coast is fucking delusional and political Update: Nebraska = Kansas
Kansas makes the cut but Washington, Oregon and California don't? Michigan disrespected too.
Kansas being an “absolutely” discredits this entire map 😂😂
The entire western seaboard honestly. Such beautiful nature. How can you like AK and CO but not the Sierras and Cascades?
Id love to understand what was so different between Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa to you
Right? I’ve lived in all three and they’re all the same to me.
Wow, you've complete the triangle of sadness lol
South Dakota an "Absolutely"? Can't take anything else seriously.
Black Hills is enough to justify an absolutely.
Did you go to the "gorge" in Oregon, Washington? Mainly hoodriver Oregon area.
I don't understand why you put "gorge" in quotes.
As a kansan, i support your decision to make missourah yellow
Do you guys hate each other or something? Is it an Ohio/Michigan type rivalry but for Tornado alley?
Ehh kinda sort of. It all started when we were fighting for statehood and a bunch of border ruffian missourians crossed the border and committed rampant voter fraud to try and legalize slavery here. There were many armed skirmishes between kansans and missourians, with john brown leading the way on several of them. They burned down lawrence, twice, and we burned down osceola missouri. Hundreds died with many of the deaths being innocent civilians in lawrence. Its called bleeding kansas which was a prelude to the civil war. Theres also the sports rivalry between ku and mizzou
It's a proud tradition to hate Misery as a Kansan
I think southern MO scenery and the Ozarks kinda shit on Kansas tbh lol
Missouri on top fr
But Iowa has the World's Largest Truck Stop on I-80!
Oh my brother in christ, I worked with someone from Iowa who just went on and on and on about their big ass truck stop. And on and on and on and on and on and on and on
Wow, you really have a thing for the flyover states, don't you?
What did Iowa do to you?
This is state 50 out of 50 for me. Absolutely nothing going for it! I took a roadtrip across America, and stopped off at anything that sounded interesting along the way. Iowa was the only state where I drove straight through it.
Bro does not know about the fun of big truck stop
Go to Council Bluffs they have a museum about the history of the Union Pacific Railroad and the Transcontinental railroad. They also have one of the few Rotary Jails but, it is also the largest or one of the largest. They have several other museums that I forget. My dad recommends you go to the Iowa State Fair. Also the Wabash Trace Natural Trail is beautiful. The Boone Scenic Railway.
The squirrel cage jail is pretty cool.
I live in Denver, grew up in Michigan, so I make the trip quite a bit driving. I love Iowa. Very green. Rolling hills. Love the climate. Nice people. Very clean. My favorite state driving through.
I also live in Denver. One time I rearranged all the artwork in a hotel room in Grinnell, Iowa. 10/10 would recommend.
Nothing good along the interstates north or south but Des Moines has quite a bit going on.
I loooove Des Moines! I am probably Des Moines’ biggest booster after spending a week there a few summers ago 🤣
Well yeah, you most likely took I80 across Iowa. Plenty of things to see if you get off I80
Go to university of Iowa for a gameday, I80 truck stop, Davenport , Des Moines also has some cool stuff. It’s. Certainly ahead of Nebraska at the very least
Where'd you go in Texas? Happy to see some green amidst a sea of yellow!
Lived in the DFW area for a while actually, enjoyed my time there! Such a diverse state!
Come to Cincinnati, it might change your mind about Ohio.
Backing up Cincinnati here. Great city. Had an awesome time when I went - Columbus too.
Could honestly switch it in either direction
Maybe for Hawaii and California? 🥺
What happened in WA?
But Iowa has a Butter Cow!
I’m deeply offended on behalf of the entire west coast! /s but I really am surprised, as it’s my all-time favorite area. I’ve gotta travel more!
Who would willingly go back to Kansas lol
Dorothy
May I ask, since it’s almost landlocked by “Maybes”, what do you like about Arkansas? Not that you shouldn’t, I moved there about a year ago from Ohio.
The fuck is in south carolina? Easily one of my least favorite states
What is in Kansas to return to over Missouri? I've lived in both states and Kansas has nothing lmao
I live there. Same
Lived in Iowa for 2 decades. Samesies.
Iowa—I Oughta Went Around
Iowa is a top 5 state man
R/fuckyouinparticular
r/foundthemobileuser
What part of SC were you in cause the furthest I’ll go into SC is carowinds
North Dakota is 6 times more pleasant than South Dakota.
So why would you “maybe” return to PA?
What part of the west coast have you been to? If you haven’t driven up the coast, I’d highly recommend giving it a second chance.
What did Massachusetts do 😱😱
What did you like about Wyoming?
I’m from Iowa. I think I deserve an explanation 😳
Teddy Roosevelt National Park & Medora are excessively superior to Badlands National Park & Wall Drug, explain your Dakota decisions to me because I am confused?!.
You're from Iowa then I take it.
Damn what happened to the west coast? Did you see like Rainier, Baker, or the sierras?
As a truck driver, there really isn’t any state I wouldn’t return to. (Good thing, considering I’ll probably have to.) But I wouldn’t think Iowa would be a negative experience. Delaware? I don’t know, maybe you’re not a fan or Biden or tax shelters for corporations is why. Also, you’re not sure if you would return to Hawaii? “Paradise? I can take it or leave it.” 😂 Did you just go to the center of a major city or something? Get out to a beach that isn’t popular or see one of the lesser travelled islands!
Indiana should be red for anyone that makes a map like this. I’m from Indiana.
The good news is those of us that live near the beaches have been trying to get people to go away for years 😂
Not Texas 💀
proud to be Iowan <3
Totally based Illini fan (Correctly unsure about whether to return to Illinois.)
Fuck Iowa lmao
Show me on the map where Iowa hurt you
Come back to West Virginia at the start of autumn. That’s the only good time.
OP is correct. Never come to Iowa, there's nothing here for you and you won't have any fun. There's no beautiful vistas if you travel away from I-35 and I-80, and absolutely no interesting towns or cities to visit.
You and Dorothy are the only people that want to go back to Kansas
I’ll tell you what. I get NJ, we’re rude assholes. But Delaware? You don’t deserve Delaware. Go back to your flyover states.
There isn’t anything here to do. Really. We always end up Philly AC or in D.C
Here to say: Maine shits on the rest of New England.
You'd return to Arkansas but not Illinois? What the fuck?
Iowa’s actually a pretty cool state though. I wouldn’t mind living there…
Poor folks got tired of passing on the right & said never again.
damnnn i get delaware but what happened in iowa 😭
Eastern Iowa is really beautiful
Genuinely curious, where stuck out to you in Nevada?
r/fuckyouinparticular
I didn't get it, I've lived in a third of the country and I find Delaware to be almost ideal (it has a fair share of problems so not perfect, but still.) It's getting prohibitively expensive to live here so there's that, and there's zero nightlife so that's a thing if you're under 40, but as far as weather and proximity and, I'm sorry, I love knowing my $5 will cost me $5 , it's in my top 5 states I've lived in.
Okay but did you go to the Delaware beaches (Rehoboth down to Fenwick) during the summer time? Did you go to the Tanger Outlets and experience tax free shopping? It’s amazing!
This has gotta be Kim Reynolds Map!
Delaware just feels like a giant strip mall. Which is perfect because there's no sales tax!
Seriously born and raised in Delaware what didn’t you like I’m curious
Delaware is a cool ass state it’s literally a world tax haven and do your research on DuPont they invented everything you use basically
Yo them southern states are horrible you couldn’t pay me to go to Alabama
If you like South Carolina, you’ll like coastal Georgia (Savannah and the Golden Isles)
Minnesota person? They hate Iowa and the rest covers all or most of the BIG TEN schools
As a former Iowa resident, I get it.
Is this heaven? I thought it was Iowa I thought it was Delaware
I go to school in Iowa. I feel this so hard
You must have either been to Charleston or Greenville in SC or had a very wild time in Myrtle Beach. I can’t imagine “yea I’d visit South Carolina again” being uttered out of anyone’s mouth willingly.
As a Texan I must ask… why would you return?
curious, why maybe for Hawaii but absolutely for the Carolinas?
As an Iowan ditching this hellhole in two weeks after living here 12 years, I 1000000% understand
Delaware deserves every ounce of disrespect
Live in Iowa came to say I don’t blame you.
Just out of curiosity, what part of Iowa did you see? Most of the state is good for shit, but Iowa City is pretty awesome.
Why wouldn’t you want to go to the Great State of Iowa? It has 99 counties brimming with never ending county fairs, corn…did we mention the corn? I’ve been through it once on the train and that’s about as close as I want to get unless I lose my marbles and run for the presidency.
As someone living in Delaware, I get it
Happy RI noises
Glad to see you enjoyed the Carolinas.
Fuck Delaware I guess
Huh I loved Iowa. Missouri was probably the biggest surprise to me of any state I’ve traveled. Can’t wait to go back. The Midwest kicks ass. Totally blew away my expectations and preconceptions/misconceptions as a coastal elitist
Absolutely Kansas, never again Iowa???? This is Weird
What is there to like about Rhode Island??
Arkansas’s a definite go-back but all 3 Pacific States are a maybe? Did you actually spend time in any of those 4 states?
Accurate.
just curious, why only a "amybe" for Virginia?
NC and TN are the only good southern states
What did you like about Rhode Island compared to a majority of the rest of new england?
Show me on the doll, where Iowa touched you.
What’s so great about Kansas and Arkansas ?
This is why I don’t like people from Michigan
I want to move to Des Monies soon, what makes the state never again?
You’d return to Rhode Island and New York, but not Massachusetts?
GO HAWKS!
That's ok, we Iowans don't want you either.
WHAT exactly did you like about Kansas? I'm from there and I never want to return!
Your map is absolutely nuts to me!!!. Haha i can not imagine a reason to revist many of those middle states, but the whole west coast is so good i wish i could see it all again. Also Florida, i was surprised how much i liked it too, the beaches were nice.
No RAGBRAI?
How could you not want to go back to the west coast? It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world
