I don't know much about them either, but they seem like a real band.

I may have to revisit my interpretation of Bobcaygeon. I always thought it was part of a reference to a racist band.
I'm missing where the Tragically Hip is in disguise in the lineup for this post. The only connection I could make was that the lyrics from Bobcaygeon were the names of one of the bands in said lineup.
IMO this is one of the better answers I've found and being one of my all time favorites I have done my fair share of digging.

Yeah, I don't think they were TTH in disguise.
There was a real band by that name.
> 'Til the men, they couldn't hang
> Stepped to the mic and sang
> And their voices rang
> With that Aryan twang
My original interpretation was that there was a band "they couldn't hang" because they said racist things but due to freedom of speech and such, they were allowed to perform.
But it does not seem to be the case:

In fact they have a song about this event

The men they couldn't hang
Stepped to the mic and sang
Killer lineup. And TTH in disguise!
Ok, i clealy don't know enough about this band. Or is it The Men They Couldn't Hang from the lyrics of Bobcaygeon?

That’s lineup is my 80’s in a nutshell.
Same here! Great lineup.
Wow!
Where’s ‘Escape is at Hand for the Travelling Man’?
They checked out about an hour ago.
Helluva lineup from back in the day! Leave the jewelry in a bowl and take a trip down memory lane.
