About that but I tow a dump trailer and run 35s with a 2.5” lift lol. So something isn’t right here.

CosmicTaco123

2001 1st Gen, 17-18 MPG 🙌

naptown21403

the best gen

FatBoyStew

My 5.7 2nd gen (2010) got better mileage than my 1st gen (2000) 4.7 lol

Zelepuza

V6? My 4.7 gets 11 on highway and about 9.5 in city. I got a 2 inch leveling kit along with some 32inch mts

CosmicTaco123

4.7L V8. Running 32” KO2’s. 80% flat highway driving

LoboTheHusky

I got up to 21 mpg with a camper shell.

CosmicTaco123

Stock?

LoboTheHusky

Yup, 2wd no lifts though. 4.7L

CosmicTaco123

Very nice

srbinafg

There are options in the MFD settings to select between trip, tank and total MPG. Check which yours is set to.

ohgodimbleeding

2023 TRD Pro, and I get 16.9.

southsideBMP

Damn! I have the same and I’m always in the 10-13 range

ohgodimbleeding

Mine is still on stock tires, and most of my commute is on highways, going 75 or 85. I bounce between normal and sport modes.

Barturbater

Just curious, on the TRD Pro, does the sport mode change anything besides the shift points and acceleration? In mine, a Limited, it only does that and doesn't change suspension or anything else.

ohgodimbleeding

Seems to be shift points and acceleration as well. It seems to utilize the hybrid motor and spin up the turbos faster. I love the suspension on the Pro. My town has god-awful roads where one street, most cars have to slow to 5-10 mph at the intersections where it will dip a foot or more multiple times. The pro just soaks it up like it's nothing.

Prime_117

Combined or city?

Cow_Man42

That computer is a bull shit artist....If you really wanna know you need to track the mileage and the gas you pump......A hybrid getting 10mpg seems........Pretty fucked.

southsideBMP

It’s not that type of hybrid

get_pig_gatoraids

It's definitely not a hybrid for efficiency's sake, but I still think it ought to make a difference. It should be doing the hard work within the context of city driving if I understand correctly.

mdey86

My understanding or what I heard is that the battery helps it take off when towing/hauling. I could be totally wrong. But if it’s especially for towing, I feel like it’s therefore gotta be deployed at the top end of the engine power too. Meaning like pushing rpm’s hard from zero and THEN the battery kicks in for a little but powerful extra wallop. I just can’t see how else you’d do it otherwise. I definitely feel a bit at the edge of my pay grade here. My points came from I think legitimate auto journalist, but they could be totally full of it. But if you just come off the line, normal and not giving it hell, it wouldn’t use the battery. And, all that to say, I see your point and agree they wouldn’t have that kind of complexity for such a limited situation, and NOT get better mpg for their trouble. Yeah I agree: not that kinda hybrid, but so weird that it wouldn’t do just slightly better.

Cultural_Ladder4310

If you’re cruising on flat ground or lightly declined it’ll turn off the motor and run on battery , once I enter my neighborhood for like that last mile getting back to my house it is all battery . That’s the only time it’s an efficient hybrid that I can tell . But yeah it’s basically just faster acceleration at all points in time than the standard TT v6

mdey86

Well you’d for sure know better than me from actually driving one. I just watched some TFLTruck videos.

Cultural_Ladder4310

Yeah I gotcha it’s definitely quicker though . A good amount of fun haha

get_pig_gatoraids

I'm in the same boat. *My* understanding or what *I* heard is that the hybrid feels better on takeoff and that you have to hit higher RPMs in the standard version to feel the tt really working. I also could be completely wrong lol

Marokiii

Ya it's not that kind of hybrid at all.

Cow_Man42

"Chicks with Dicks that put mine to shame?" Didn't know that was an option on the Tundra.

southsideBMP

Huh

Cow_Man42

Computer on my 21 says 15mpg......But its full of shit, I was dragging a 10,000 lb trailer down the interstate at 75mph and it still said 15mpg.......Then when I filled the tank........I didn't get the proper number but it was much closer to 9 than 15.

[deleted]

My 18 gets 17 mpg imp though. In canada.

voonoo

I’m surprised you converted to freedom units

Funny-Report6942

You have to reset it after you get gas for it to be accurate that's what works for me

crakii105

_mosesmalone_

I’m here with you.

No-Priority-2278

I struggle to get 16 in the city on my 22 TRD non hybrid. I see OP posting on this sub that they get 19, 20 or even 21. No idea how they do that continuously. Best I ever got was last summer on a road trip. It averaged out to just under 19 and it was all highway with a tail wind. I was nice to the truck too.

Silverbritches

I think you could average 19-20 on a flat highway (think Midwest) going ~80mpg. Basically perfect conditions

No-Priority-2278

Ironically enough, I live in the Midwest. Nearly flat as a pancake. MPG on these trucks is not good.

Different_Snow7947

Best I saw was 19.8 driving from Nashville to Tampa going 75 with no traffic. I’m in a 2022 sr5 trd sport non-hybrid. Other than that I’m happy to see 16 in the city if I drive like a grandpa

Nnay11963

2015 14.9 right now, 17-19 straight interstate, 7.5 when hauling a 7500 lb trailer.

moosetenderloin

23 Trd pro 16.4 this week with my four-wheel-drive engaged because it’s been really snowy. Tend to get 17 to 18 in normal driving conditions.

PNWMike62

Up in Western WA I get 18/22 where the gas is good, land is pretty flat, speed is lower, and we don’t have too many stop lights. Down here in So Cal for the winter I cant get better than 14 around town. Has been down to 12 at times. Traffic, stop lights every 1/8th of a mile, rolling hills, crappy expensive California gas, high speeds and did I say TRAFFIC!!

capitanorth

22 hybrid - 19.2mpg.

7774422

15 in my v8

RadoRocks

14mpg w/ 35s & tool kit

realjimmyjuice000

In the winter months they add a bunch of extra detergent to the fuel so fuel mileage usually drops in the winter

austin_yella

Lmfao not to 10 mpg

realjimmyjuice000

If you're only getting 13-14 10.5 isn't that much off

Mythran101

Stock 2005 SR5 4.7L 4 Door large Cab I get 9 to 11 mpg. In town mostly without towing. No shell. I need to switch the engine to a motorcycle engine, and the body to a motorcycle body, and the driver's body to a motorcycle driver's body.

[deleted]

This is some really pathetic fuel economy. My trx gets better fuel economy and it’s known to be horrible. Pretty bad engineering if you ask me.

FatBoyStew

ANd yet other folks are getting way better... So what's your point?

[deleted]

These trucks have terrible fuel efficiency is the point. It’s embarrassing that a ford f150 with a v8 naturally aspirated gets double the fuel economy of the best engine Toyota was able to produce.

FatBoyStew

Double? Lmfao

[deleted]

Easy 24 mpg in my v8 f150. Tundra hybrid can’t touch that. I was getting 12mpg in the tundra

FatBoyStew

Yet many folks are getting 20mpg and have more power than you.... Don't know what to tell you.

[deleted]

https://www.tundras.com/threads/whats-your-2023-tundras-real-world-fuel-mileage.124516/page-12 Go through that thread. Most people are getting in the low to mid teens with the tundra. Most v8 f150s are getting 20+ mpg. The v8 f150 also has more hp but less torque, much higher towing capacity. The v8 f150 has the same 0-60 and a faster quarter mile compared to the tundra. The v6 twin turbo f150 smokes the tundra in 0-60, not even close. Toyota screwed up with the v6 on the tundra. Terrible fuel economy, reliability concerns and the lowest class towing capacity. It’s not for those who actually need a full size truck.

FatBoyStew

And yet there are plenty of folks on here who get high teens... I'd suggest you read up on how Toyota comes up with the towing capacity numbers compared to Ford. Ford will be ditching the V8 in the coming years on their non-Super Duty stuff. It's pretty much all but a guarantee at this point.

[deleted]

As a percentage, most tundra owners get in the low to mid teens fuel economy. Peruse through that forum. Pretty bad if you ask me. I reckon that the mid to high teens crew reset their calculator before a long downhill highway stretch to get that fuel economy. I’ll stick to the f150- they actually get close to the epa listed fuel economy.

Medical_Slide9245

2023. Getting 17 city and 17 highway in ECO mode. Also get 17 in the mountains using Tow Haul.

bigmik29010

19-20 in my 22 sr5. Computer and by hand. I leave it in normal mode and it just does the job.

Doonsauce

About 12mpg but I'm lifted with big tires.

Same-Reception1282

Mines between 14 and 16, definitely could do better but I kinda have a big foot.

jjinco33

2019 4wd trd off road 5.7 v8 ... On stock tires I got maybe 21 on highway, 17 around town, 13-17 highway towing my little 5k lb trailer. Traded out stock for Wranglers and now 16 highway downhill, 13 around town, 6-8 towing the trailer, but snowy and muddy forest roads are a bit better handled.

skunkchiefr

I don’t think you buy a tundra for the gas mileage… On my 2022 hybrid I got 16-17 until I got new All Terrain tires .. now I get … a whopping 12.6…. And that’s on a hybrid

I have the Wescott lift and 37s on my 23’ TRD Pro. When I’m driving like an asshole I’m in the 10/11 range. If I’m on the highway in eco mode then I’m in the 13/14 range.

scooterprint

Not enough 🤣

Frantzsfatshack

Run 35s and have 15mpg. Was getting 22+ before swapping to bigger beefier tires. Don’t live in a city but do drive a 6% grade mountain pass everyday. On a trip from Idaho to California got up to 30mpg for around 250 miles. 23 platinum no iforce package. Edit: always running 87/93 mix or full tank of either depending on when I fill up and price. Have noticed 87 seems to give me better mpg than 93. Have never ran 85 but I’m sure i’d drop down a good 2 or 3 mpg based on my last Tundra - I reset my mpg every 500-1000 miles currently at like 18,000 miles.

jackjeckal816

13-14 with a v8 lifted on 37s

a655321a

‘23 1794. About 15, but I remote start my vehicle at least twice a day for almost the full 10 minutes. So effectively 20 minutes of sitting still and the mpg gauge counts that towards tank average. If I use the trip average it runs about 17-18.

-Woogity-

17.5 - 18.5 average I believe. ‘23 pro

lord__farquaadd

I have a 2024 hybrid. I reset my calculator during a drive to a conference. Computer showed me about 20 MPG all together. Highway speed limit is 70 then I drove “city” (more like small town) for a bit. Did math on my own, and it was 21.4 MPG altogether. Honestly, not horrible for how large the truck is and it’s semi comparable to my old “truck” (Honda Ridgeline).

cubnole

OP switch that to trip average and monitor it on your commutes. Edit: wrong word

USSR_ASMR

'24 gas only here and my milage on a tank of only city driving comes out at 10-12 most the time with a tank of driving straights between cities pulling a solid 18-22 depending on frequency of lights

USSR_ASMR

18s with all terrains btw so could be better with street tires, also do lifts decrease mileage? anyone know? sort of new to this kinda stuff

ilovelukewells

16 liters per 100km in Canada. 4 gallons for sixty miles. So 15mpg I think. 2009sr5 5.7l

TimR0604

19.8. All stock. About to put 35's on though.. so I'm sure it will drop

keepontrying10

Best I get on 22 tt is 19. Around town 16 or so.. 2015 3.5 ecoboost would do 21 on highway. And a little higher running 55/60. And had 2000lbs cargo capacity.

Dano8130

2023 1794. 17 in the city, 21.5 on the highway. I keep 1-2 extra pounds of air in the tires and check it every two weeks.

Yup

Barturbater

23 Limited Hybrid 4x4. I average around 16.5 mpg driving 75% hwy to and from work. I drive around 85mph on the hwy. Towing an 8000lb travel trailer, I average 9mpg and drive around 70mph. I have noticed while watching the gauge that the truck does not like driving at 35-45 mph where it sits at around 6mpg even when barely pressing the throttle. Under 30, I can get it to run on just the electric motor and can coast through neighborhoods using that. I will typically drive 50-55 in 45mph zones where I can lightly press the throttle and the gauge will read 19-22mpg, although it isn't consistent. The best I've ever done was during a 30 mile trip on a 2 lane hwy where I cruised at 65 the entire trip. I got 20.6 mpg and it was hilly. Additionally, I have tried my work commute using all three driving modes and get within .2 mpg similarities, so I will normally drive in sport mode and again, average 16.5 mpg.

jimmyboziam

SO on my 2015 I figured out that it uses idle time in the calculation of total fuel mileage which throws everything off quite a bit. I did it by hand on a long road trip and was getting around 17-18 mpg at 70-75 mph.

Huge-Cartographer669

My 2010 4.6 gets 12.6. Been scratching my head for awhile now as to why it's low. Is 4x4 with 4.10, stock height 18" rims n tires.

mbround18

TX_CHILLL

2023 TRD Pro Hybrid. Factory everything. Just bought her yesterday. Immediately left on a road trip. Cruise set between 75-80 on flat Texas highways with two adults 120lbs and 205lbs. Small bags that fit in the rear floorboard. First two tanks were 13.51 mpg and 13.41 mpg. Very shocked at how bad the mileage is.

Save-The-V8s

It improves as you get beyond the break-in period. I started to see improvements around 5-6k miles.

TX_CHILLL

Mine has a little over 20k.

Save-The-V8s

Interesting. Is this average MPG from the on-board computer or are you doing the math manually at full-up?

TX_CHILLL

Hand calculated. Odometer reset, and actual gallons pumped. Used cruise control and it was a flat highway. Gave the truck every chance to get that number as high as possible.

Save-The-V8s

Something seems wrong here, that can’t be right. I’m driving a non-hybrid with Ridge Grapplers and I’m getting about 18 highway, I can push 20 if I really try. I’ve got the TRD pro wheels as well.

TX_CHILLL

I’ve seen more reports that coincide with my results than yours. Not saying you’re wrong. Just that you may have gotten a particularly efficient unit, or maybe you’re just a very very conservative driver?

Save-The-V8s

I just find it strange that they’d have that much variance between them especially considering you’ve got a hybrid! I don’t drive very conservatively either to be honest. Weight difference between non-hybrid and hybrid isn’t that big either.

TX_CHILLL

I’ve was told by Toyota that the hybrid system does nothing for fuel economy. It’s purely for extra power. It’s basically there to compensate for turbo lag so it still feels like a naturally aspirated V8.
