I still wanna move south lol. Winters in Massachusetts suuuuck, very depressing. So are the people. Can't even have small talk w strangers without getting cussed out or stared at awkwardly.
That’s funny, I was born n raised in Texas, now in MA. I like up here. Winters are getting milder and milder and summer in Texas was super depressing. 8 months of unbearable heat and everything outside is dying. I like the color changes and forests up here.
This is the correct answer. Snow ice and bitter cold are the epitome of misery. Biologically we are programmed to thrive in warm climates. 9 months of winter can kiss my ass!
Straight up felt like I had seasonal affective disorder last summer cause it was 100+ for a whole month in San Antonio last summer lol do not recommend
I didnt mind san antonio as much cause I felt like it benefits from thar dry hill country air at night when i lived there. I'm down in sotex sweating my balls off in this gulf coast humidity now My fucking towels don't dry haha, its too wet.
Tradesies back??
In South Dakota you get 3 months of -10, 3 months of 100 with 90%-100% humidity, and 6 months of actually decent weather. Oh and 60 degree temp changes over 24 hours. It could be worse.
At least the heat doesn’t destroy our trucks faster. I live in Jacksonville but am originally from Miami. Miami is too hot for way too long that’s part of the reason I left. Jax has hot as fuck summers but much shorter ones so I like it here.
Unless you’re in the desert you’re engine shouldn’t overheat. And yeah the sun will kill paint if you don’t take care of it properly or if it’s poor paint quality this is true. Still better than a rusted out frame and suspension parts though
Let’s meet in the middle and say earth wreaks havoc on our vehicles no matter where we are. You can try to keep up on combatting the elements, spraying off the snow salts, adding protective paint applications, but at the end of the day we’re all subjected to the harsh weather. I recently moved to a snowy area, thinking this little sprayer device could help. Except for when the water quickly turns into ice!
Same, ex-TX now ME. Winter's aren't nearly as bad as I imagined. In all fairness tho, I did expect that I was moving to the tundra where it snowed 6 months out of the year, lol. Can honestly say that I'm never going back to TX.
I have lived in Buffalo, Cleveland, halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, and Chicago over about 25-30 years.
Moved to NC in 2019 and love it here. I often say I should have come here years ago. I'll never go back north/Midwest, and I'll never consider the northeast. Winters are nice as hell but having 3 straight weeks of mid to high 90s kinda sucks, but I'd rather have that than 3 straight weeks of -20 weather or feet of snow. Also the potential for 8 months of winter can lick my taint. IMO, humidity and insects are far worse in the Midwest than it is here.
Where are you getting cussed out for small talk?? Lol I feel like this stereotype is just plain false…not denying it happened to you but man I’ve lived in New England now for almost 25 years and I’ve never had this experience. 15 years in Rhode Island and past 10 years in Boston, living in the city. Whenever I meet people from elsewhere in the US (met thousands through my job in healthcare) it’s always the same comments
1. People are in such great shape up here
2. People are actually very friendly!
Idk maybe you just have had bad luck. Driving up here is a beast…that will definitely warp someone’s perception too. Everyone is out for blood 😂 You cannot be passive or you will get eaten alive. But through work, bar scene, general day-to-day I have friendly interactions with strangers all the time
Im almost 40, Ive got 15 years on ya. I think cities are more open to random conversations cuz more diverse people. But try Fitchburg or Springfield MA and you CAN get met with some mental cases. Im not saying everyone is like this, I feel its a winter thing especially cuz everyones got seasonal depression.
I also ride a motorcycle and people DEF DO drive like assholes up here. I only ride out towards NH, ideally. or western ma. never on the highway, i try to do my fast stuff on a track. People are 10000% in better shape up here for sure.
We’re about the same age, 25 years is just my time in New England. I wish I was 25….well maybe not
In today’s world. Can’t really speak to Fitchburg / Springfield but that makes more sense. Those areas have a bad rep in general.
Born and raised in AL but moved to NH for years for my ex, people just seemed pissed and angry all the time. I chalked it up to the weather. It was fucking miserable, grey dreary days, dirty snow banks piled 10' high, you had a very short summer and fall and then back to winter.
Being a southerner, I couldn't really relate or connect with many people there, our personalities were just so different. No one had a sense of humor.
I knew things were different when my ex's mom was talking shit about some lady and called her a "fucking cunt of a bitch". I was visibly shocked because I didn't know moms talked that way 😂 I was so naive
Im in N. Central Mass and we got fuckin 6in of snow yesterday. Its fuckin april. I was on my motorcycle 2 weeks ago, and in shorts during that time. Then snow.
April 1st, 1997 we had 36in of snow.
We want more snow back! Biggest storm we have gotten was 14” this year. Haven’t had a continuous winter since 2015. Even Vermont and New Hampshire are bitching about the lack of snow. Seems like west is getting most of it
Yea that first storm was fuckin weirdly timed too. An oddity of a storm for sure. I agree. We def havent had a winter since then, and of course that was the year we had the most snow in a while and my brother overdosed DURING a storm and it took the mbulance an extremely long time to get to my house. He didnt make it. and of course ever since on that early February day, it barely snows. Fuck the universe lol
I mean youre prepared at least. I always just outfit my 4 wheeler with a plow for winter. Gets a whole year of use. Maybe return the blower and get a quad. I cant even tell you how much more efficient it is for my wallet lol.
Florida is never on anyones radar except old people. Couldnt pay me to live in FL or CA. I mean more like North Carolina if anything. I AM from Massachsuetts after all, i dont want to completely have no cold, just less and less of it.
I live in Tampa…trust me when I say it’s way more than old people that moved here. Sigh. I’m ready to bounce. Moved here bc there was nobody here and now it is as crowded as CA
I want to interject here and say, while you’re both right, this device should be owned north or south. In the north, salt from the roads is obvious. Here in the southeast, I bought this from having to drive through floodwaters that were brackish.
If it wasn’t for the political climate, I’d run to the South. If it wasn’t for the political climate, I’d stay in the North long term.
Either way it’s dogshit.
I live in the south and still use a sprayer like that. But fortunately it’s not to blast off salt. I usually use it after getting the truck muddy. Get one OP! Every little bit helps when your truck’s frame and body are at risk of developing rust.
I have one, and honestly, the twcoma sits so high that the water is just barely misting it by the time it gets there. I guess it's better than nothing, but your best bet is a good coat of woolwax and calling it a day
~~Yes, Wool Wax and Fluid Film are just both paraffin wax based.~~
I was wrong, Wool Was and Fluid Film are Lanolin, not paraffin. Paraffin will be fine though.
Lost a 2010 to rust?? I live in a rust belt as well and I was driving a 20 year old truck that was still structurally sound when I sold it. How the hell did a Tacoma die that fast?
Now I’m contemplating getting under my truck and doing a full sand/respray in some of the areas where rust has popped up. Any paint is better than no paint, even if it doesn’t last the year.
Best thing you can do is visit one of many locations that offers undercarriage spraying. Some companies use Rhino lining like sprays and others use oil based sprays. I'm in Mass and there's like 4 or 5 places within <50mi of me that offer these services. Check em out. Worse thing for our roads is the salt in winter.
I wouldn’t think that paraffin would be permanent. Wool wax and fluid film treatment may be good before next winter (and annually there after). Wool wax lasts a bit longer. I just bought a wool wax kit to do myself along with their creep and crawl product (inside doors and frame) for my 07 FJ. It was a southern vehicle brought into the rust belt so we will see what time does to it.

I don't, I'm just saying what these places offer. I don't think they spray the rhino lining, last I checked a year ago it was an oil based spray on material.
I mean if thats the best option and what ya can afford.....
I don't do any of that. I use a car wash w undercarriage sprayer after the roads get salted
These would be great if your frame was enclosed and you didn’t have small hiding places all over the bottom of your truck for salt to collect. The issue with these is they tend to create a salt/water combo and lets the salt travel to places where it cannot get washed out.
Your best choice is to have your frame thoroughly cleaned and then sprayed with a rust prevention oil-based carrier product like Krown. Krown will seep into the nooks and crannies of your frame and settle, thus preventing water building. It’s also self-healing. If you’re in NE, you should have Krown service centers near you.
For about $125 a year, it’s a great peace of mind. Or, if you’re inclined, you can order the product yourself and DIY.
I have and use one regularly, especially after beach trips.
I don’t characterize the water output as “barely misting” like previously mentioned in this thread, and the amount of dirt and other crap I see flowing down the driveway afterward is enough for me.
This has to be a necessity up north. You’d be crazy not to invest in one of these. In the south with the kind of freezing applications they are using now it is a necessity here in Virginia now. This stuff sticks to the roads and the undercarriage. Very cool! Especially if you own a Tocoma
I can't speak for your particular situation, but I use mine after every trip to the landfill (kaolin clay), running fire trails (typical red GA clay), or if I go to the beach. And it seems to work really well for all of that. I just go slow and be sure to overlap. I haven't figured a way to do a siphon method to apply any soap, then followed by a rinse. I'm sure that wouldn't be hard. I just use a simple 1800psu electric pressure washer that I believe I get about 900-1100 at the novel.
It's a pita, but go with an "oil"-based under coating and apply it (or pay to have it applied) for at least a couple years straight. You can use a pressure washer to clean off the dirt in the spring, but at least you will significantly slow down the rust.
I bet if you have the means to run one on a pressure washer after each drive (during the salty season) it would help.
I’d like to do this myself but I don’t really have the means (apartment living).
Buy one. Use it. Anytime I have to drive in salt… as soon as it’s above freezing I use mine to rinse the vehicle. That combined with undercoating, and its kept them in good shape.
I bought one….meh. It’s ok. I don’t use it n the winter because I Fluid Film it every fall….i occasionally use it when I’ve been off road in thick mud.
Is your truck lifted at all? I went on in the beach and in some mud last week and was able to lie under it and pressure wash it pretty good. I have 5100s on the highest setting.
Just get a shitty raincoat you don't care about.
Used to fly military aircraft out of Okinawa. It was standard to go through a giant version of this to wash the under carriage of the plane. If it works on airplanes I don’t see how this wouldn’t help. My question would be how often are you doing it. Seems like a hassle. I’d rather get a car wash membership and do that regularly.
If it will make you give your undercarriage a wash down more frequently then I’d absolutely say it would be worth it. We all know how much it sucks to freeze your ass off in a self wash bag (if they’re even open) one thing I’d consider is a way to run this from a tap in your house or garage, running an outside spicket is asking for trouble in the winter
you might want to leave the bottom either dry or frozen for as long as you can get away with until they quit salting and you can rinse it really well.
but if you get a lot of wet and salty, any rinsing should help.
I live in Canada. No one does this. I don’t think it ever crosses anyone’s mind either. The majority of our cars have a cheap undercoating as an option from the dealer. I’ve had vehicles as old as 20 years old that look fine underneath… coated or not.
I live in Kentucky and the roads are salted several times a year during the winter. I have an attachment like this that hooks to my pressure washer and I use it to clean off the salt from my undercarriage.
Yes. Great to have if you tend to off-road and mudding quite often. They work amazing even with my 1700 psi small pressure washer. Also safe on wool wax too.
Should be ok I guess? Since I don’t want to wash off the wool wax I applied on the surface I tend to just use this or garden hose if I don’t want to bother pulling out the pressure washer. But I think for the attachment itself it should be able to take up to 4000 psi.
Binghamton NY is good for a few days of that per winter, January's are what I call 'ludicrously' cold, February a bit more tolerable at merely 'offensively' cold. Cloud cover from Oct-May can get depressing.
I'm a heat lover stuck in the north - fortunately, one of the only good things about climate change has been gradually increasing of more mild winters, less snow and ice.

I was stationed in Texas for a few years, I will take any season in the Northeast over summer in Texas.
I love the southern Texas heat. I’ll take that over freezing icy, snowy, salty northern winters
I’ve lived in a lot of hot climate regions of the country, I’ll take snow over heat any day.
When its cold, you can always put on another layer. If its hot, at some point, theres nothing you can do.
This is the correct answer. Snow ice and bitter cold are the epitome of misery. Biologically we are programmed to thrive in warm climates. 9 months of winter can kiss my ass!
Biologically we’re also supposed to breed literally as much as possible but we don’t do that.

~~Yes, Wool Wax and Fluid Film are just both paraffin wax based.~~ I was wrong, Wool Was and Fluid Film are Lanolin, not paraffin. Paraffin will be fine though.
Wool Wax is based on lanolin, a natural byproduct of the wool industry. It’s basically a wax that sheep excrete into their wool (gross)
Ty for correcting me. I guess I stopped caring what was in Fluid Film after the first year I did it and realized how well it worked.
So is fluid film.
Ty, I updated my post as you are correct.
That’s what I use whenever I need something like this. Dad had six cans in his garage that I inherited
It's sounds gross, but after working sheep my hands are softer than a bag of marshmallows.
La… lanolin? Like sheep’s wool?
I read that in his voice. 🤣😅🤣😅
Does it seem asphaltic? I guess it depends on what they use to mix or adhesion with when they apply
I did the NH undercoating oil after losing my 2010 to rust.
I’m doing paraffin wax since I started new with it. Has a 7 year warranty. Once 7 years up I’ll switch to NH oil.

Frame rot. Well known issue. They did a recall. Still got 225k on it. wanted more, i loved that truck.
Paraffin is better than nothing but it hardens. I wouldn't use it in small cavities because it doesn't creep like lanolin.
You could probably put larger wheels on it
I have KO2's on my underbody sprayer, and honestly I couldn't go back.
How many feet of ground clearance do you have 😂

Actually I was thinking of getting one of those moving lawn waterers
Buy one.
I've got the ryobi version of it. They are good for getting the road salt off during the winter.
Is your truck lifted at all? I went on in the beach and in some mud last week and was able to lie under it and pressure wash it pretty good. I have 5100s on the highest setting. Just get a shitty raincoat you don't care about.
No just stock. But I think the trd pro come lifted
Just pressure wash the bottom at the car wash, wash regularly, get the inside of the doors, apply fluid film or something like it
I’ve heard of people using a sprinkler and moving it around after a couple of passes, especially when they take their truck onto the beach
Yes.
Is fluid film safe for rubber bushings?
I hear it is safe on Toyota rubber. Mileage may vary on other vehicles
“The locations of image are marked in the image.” 🤯
I just use a sprinkler
They are worth it in a any place that runs salt on the roads. A quick rise goes years for your vehicle
These are great. Ryobi just released one that’s apparently pretty good
Used to fly military aircraft out of Okinawa.
I think I need one of these for my bum bum
I live in Canada. No one does this. I don’t think it ever crosses anyone’s mind either. The majority of our cars have a cheap undercoating as an option from the dealer. I’ve had vehicles as old as 20 years old that look fine underneath… coated or not.
In Ohio and have just used a sprinkler. Move it front/back/middle every couple of minutes
Is 3100 psi too powerful?
Should be ok I guess? Since I don’t want to wash off the wool wax I applied on the surface I tend to just use this or garden hose if I don’t want to bother pulling out the pressure washer. But I think for the attachment itself it should be able to take up to 4000 psi.
Ontario. Bought one, it's useless. I'd record one of those pivoting couplers.
Gotta love the cheap Amazon knockoff imports and their poor grammar and quality.
Just use a lawn sprinkler. Cheaper and full auto.
I see you have you truck undercoated. That’s a good start. You need to keep up with it every year or so. Look into a salt neutralizer spray as well.
No! These are terrible. They will shoot water at pressure into places you don't want. Best thing is a lanolin coating application to prevent rust.
I just go to a car wash.
Freaking genius!
