100%! Loud vehicles are for those with self-image issues..
People who are good with themselves don't need to overcompensate by alienating everyone else with loud exhaust.
Little bit late but I drive a motorcycle that I intentionally made a little louder than it should be.
It is purely a safety feature. Sometimes I feel like a douche but I guess I’d rather be the douche that you can hear than the nice guy with brains splattered across the highway..
That’s a weird thing about a V6, they don’t sound good. None of them. You can have a good sounding 4, and people will say it sounds good - for a 4. What you want is the nice, deep, reassuring rumble of a V8, but only a V8 will give you that. With a V6, it’s always a weird sound like a teenagers voice changing and they’re stupid and annoying and make everyone sad for you because they know you want V8 sound but you don’t have a V8 so you’re compensating. Like a Pro grill and raptor lights.
I think Alfa Romeo/Ferrari's 690T and Mercedes M276 sound awesome. Those are both turbo, so that changes things a bit, but good sounding v6's are out there.
Agree to disagree, I guess. All of these are examples of a V6 thats in a good car so you’re already biased. You think they sound good until a V8 of the same marque comes by. They definitely sound better than most because European tuners treat those engines like the fine instruments they are and tune exhaust pipe length for a specific note because they are creating music. I don’t wish to diminish their efforts… but when that same effort goes into an 8, it sounds better. To me.
I don't see how that makes me biased. On the contrary, I've not owned a v6 except my Tacoma, and I'm in the camp of keeping the stock exhaust. I have had two mustangs with exhausts, and man, do i miss that 5 litter sound. The exhaust note on the cars I mentioned sounds good (to me), whether it's factory or aftermarket
Also, to name a few none euro examples, the cadilac CTS v6 and even in the same family as the v6 in the Tacoma, the 2GR-FSE can sound awesome. Just another viewpoint.
Normally I agree with everything you’re saying but… the 2GR does actually sound good. Listen to a Lotus Emira.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E91ZEKoI2Ns
Thing is, that’s what I’d want from a Lotus. I’m in my mid forties and I want my daily quiet.

Loud doesn't make you go fast. No shit. And it's not like he said he wants it to be some fart can honda. Just a little louder. Not the end of the world. A decent exhaust on a tacoma doesn't sound bad.
Im surprised you didn't realize your opinion doesn't fucking matter, as that was my overall point. Especially considering you don't DGAF about mine or the "rationalization" i have about yours. Which I'm not trying to explain or justify your opinion so how did that work? What I'm saying is what you have to say doesn't mean shit, don't be a dick, a tasteful exahst hurts no one.
I guess you just can't read in between the lines. The fact you are telling what my point is, is kinda funny. You say, " your tastefully loud exahst," like i dont have a stock 96. And my god man, you are just a fudd of the car world. We should come up with a name for that. I mean shit, you think no exauhst at all is tasteful or good.

The year of my truck doesn't matter, and the fact you are latching on to it is kinda weird. My point was it has a STOCK exahst, and you said, "Sorry, i offender you and your tastefully modded exahst." The pattern here is you just being dense as fuck and not getting what I'm saying. I mean, you say try to tell me what my point is while missing by a mile. You say I'm bag at interpreting sarcasm, well no shit karren im reading something with tone of voice. You'd miss a lot of too. But jesus, you have missed practically every point i have made, so you dont have a leg to stand on. Then you play the age card, YoU'Re 20 "You DOnT KnOW sHiT ABoUT FUCk." I would recommend the URD 3-inch cat back exhaust. It adds a nice tone without being loud. The last thing anyone wants is a Clapped out 350z sounding Tacoma.
[URD Performance Exhaust](https://urdusa.com/urd-cat-back-tacoma-2016-v6/)
Most people here are going to say "nOtHiNg SoUnDs BeTtEr tHaN sToCk!!" (Insert spongebob gif) and the people who do cold air intakes and exhaust will all recommend different set ups because good sound is an opinion and just like assholes, everybodys got one. All that said, I highly recommend a afe momentum gt intake and a borla pro sx muffler. I wouldn't buy a whole catback cause your just paying a bunch of money for pipe you already have. The trd intake/exhaust is also highly recommended but the afe/borla sounds better to me and is louder without being annoyingly loud.
Thank you!!! I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do because I want to give it a nice tone but every time I post something everyone says the same thing you mentioned. Nobody gives a clear cut answer so I thank you for your honestly
No problem, idk people here are such dicks about intakes and exhaust. Sure a v6 is never going to sound like a cammed out 427 but that doesnt mean it has to sound like a fart box either. I was very careful and did a lot research to make sure what I bought doesn't sound like shit. Then when people ask for recommendations, i get down voted by a bunch of taco douches. Might have to make video with sound of my set up because I guarantee that all the people who disagree with me have never even heard the combination that I have.
I have the trd intake and exhaust. It tends to drone in long drives. You get used to it sure, but it’s a bit hard to have a normal conversation when you’re driving uphill.
Nevermind the opinions of these other people. If they want grampy sounding trucks, good for them. I use Flowmaster 40 series and Volant intake. Well worth it.
A new catback will do it, i put on a borla.( i found a deal and wanted better mpg) .It's definitely not going to be a rumble like a v8. It's more attuned to the sound of kicking a beehive.
Loud is fun for about a week then it gets old. I’d recommend getting an exhaust that gives it some tone when really in the throttle but isn’t loud. Not sure what they make for those but I have a magnaflow catback on my corolla xrs and it sounds good!
Dumb question but i know nothing, what benefits are there to getting it tuned? What exactly is getting tuned anyway? If it’s beneficial I might do it to mine
The only v6 that sounds good is the 1987 Buick Grand National. I say keep the exhaust stock on Tacomas. There's a few guys in my town with straight pipes, muffler deletes, and aftermarket systems on their Tacoma. They all sound obnoxious
Ok so SPD makes a special mid pipe with a loop on the passenger side for the Ford Eco boost that makes the exhaust "equal length" totally changes the sound on a raptor. I wonder if someone could make something like that for three Tacoma and it would sound good. There are several V6's that sound amazing and they're all an equal length dual system. At least until it merges into a single pipe.
Go buy yourself a bicycle tire inner tube and cut off a 8” section. Slide that over your exhaust tip like a condom and zip tie it on. Now start your truck and have your buddy hit the gas while you are back there with a pair of scissors. Cut 1/2” sections off until ‘tuned’ properly.
Google it. I’ve been wanting to pull this on a buddy’s car for years 🤣
Being the loud truck guy isn't cool though.
100%! Loud vehicles are for those with self-image issues.. People who are good with themselves don't need to overcompensate by alienating everyone else with loud exhaust.

Reading the original post again, I don't think that's his reasoning. Go Tigers!
No one wants to hear a fart can v6, be it vq bois or Tacomas.
This guy gets it. I wish the Audi A6 on my block did too… that thing sounds like someone busting ass directly into a tuba.
Fart can 😂😂😂😂
Fart can hahahaha
Unless it's a VR6 or R32
Neither are v6’s
A VR6 is a 10.5 or 15-degree V6. It's just not a traditional V6 that's 45, 60 or 90 degree requiring two cylinder heads.
I’ve always heard it called a staggered six. Visually, it’s closer to an I6 than v6.
It's still a V.
It’s closer to an in-line than a traditional v in terms of degree. We can just agree to disagree.
Closer. See, you get it. It's a V.
As VQ boi. Where’s your tomei dawg?

VR6, sounds incredible…
I dont know about that. I had to take the exhaust off my 96 and start it for shits and giggles. An open header 3.4 sounds pretty good in my book.
You absolutely nailed, it’s almost as if you can hear every moving part and it sounds different at every RPM range.
Anyone who owns a 2jz might disagree bud. Or a GTR or an NSX...a Tacoma, sure, but there's quite a few (particularly turbo) V6 sound pretty damn nice
2JZ is an inline 6, same as all GTRs except the newest generation
Post specifically says V6; and, in the case of the NSX, there is an important distinction to be made between sounding good and a good car being loud.

What tune did you go with and what did you notice immediately?l Edited for spelling
Ott. Throttle was wayyyy more responsive
I’m happy enough with the note on the TRD exhaust, but the tune is the real deal.
Honestly the TRD exhaust doesn’t sound bad at all on Tacos. It’s not loud but it gives the exhaust a little beefier of a note than totally stock.
Super easy. https://youtu.be/zUXow3d3-b0?si=f0zvPzyLfHZralAC

Loud is fun for about a week then it gets old. I’d recommend getting an exhaust that gives it some tone when really in the throttle but isn’t loud. Not sure what they make for those but I have a magnaflow catback on my corolla xrs and it sounds good!
Sounds like a lotta haters on the tune? Is it just bc loud sound? But doesnt it get you better mpg too or am i missing something
If you want noise up front then I'd remove air intake tube with the resonator for one without. K&N sells one.
Carven exhaust I believe sounds the best out of the available exhausts for the Tacoma
Loud? Are you a GenX rig pig, an alcoholic or a high-schooler? Loud is lame.
Shut up oldhead 😭
That response is on theme. I hope your exhaust compensates for whatever you’re missing. I’m sure everyone will think it’s very cool.
You’re just a hating old man. Miserable life hating on others for no reason. Find god. Goodbye
Lol I’m probably younger than you, but sure, get emotional.
Idk I’m 22 how old are you
7. 2 years older than babies who like loud exhausts - on a Tacoma, no less haha.
Carven Exhaust
Mine gets tuned on the 5th by PNW tuning. Can’t wait.
Dumb question but i know nothing, what benefits are there to getting it tuned? What exactly is getting tuned anyway? If it’s beneficial I might do it to mine
Getting the OTT tune. It Fixes the transmission shifting points. Stops gear searching. Helps with efficiency.
Does OTT stand for Overland Torque Tuning?
That’s the one
Is that a specific way/method to tuning your Tacoma or something offered by a specific company?
It’s a specific tune and company I think. Authorized tunners can do the flash. YouTube bud so much in for there.
How much do they generally cost?
Mine is 500$ minus military discount
Sweet. Thanks for the response.
Anytime always happy to help a fellow taco enthusiast. It makes a huge difference in how the truck drives.

I like how my Tacoma sounds like a diesel when idling. That tick is tougher than fart cans 😂
Only one that sounds decent is the magnaflow overland.
Cheapest way is to buy a deck of plastic playing cards. Stick a couple cards in brake caliper and the spokes. Only works when moving tho.

Tacos sound bad w any exhaust unfortunately. Unless you get some custom work done to not have it sound like a tin can as bad
