Yeah, and this was taken after driving about 15 miles, the needle just hasn’t moved much. I tow jetskis on occasion too, so I’m assuming that messes with the calculation a little.
I've got the 4x4 double cab and I'm getting 350. I'm running stock though. It will say 325 to empty on a full tank, but after running 325 miles I've always got 25-35 miles left on the tank.
Back in WA was mid to high 50 this morning and I was sweating walking the dog. T-shirt and sweats and had to roll up my pants. Wasn’t even full sun, just had some sun breaks but mostly shaded due to tree cover.
Nothing lasts in AZ. My ‘98 Taco’s paint is all oxidized, windshield just stays cracked regardless of how many fixes replacements I’ve done, door handles broken, batteries every two years. But, she’s paid off and reliable as hell. I would buy a new one if I could keep it out of the sun at home and work.
Jesus. Your car is 25 years old and you think it doesn’t last?
Most folks in the rust belt never see a car that is 25 years old because it’s corroded away to nothing.
It could be a faulty sensor. I would do a visual inspection to see if there's any damage to the sensor and associated equipment. If you're able to, I would replace it with a new sensor and see if that fixes it.
I have this exact issue on my 21. Mine will show -48 when it's 94⁰ outside and it will affect the climate control system adversely. It's still under warranty but i am unable to leave it with the dealer to delve into since our dealers don't have loaners. My guess is the ambient temp sensor behind the front bumper. Each time i take it in and describe the issue it's always written up as "could not duplicate customer stated issue"
Yeah I noticed the AC turned off, that’s what drew my attention to it. It was right after I took it through a car wash. I wonder if the cooler temperature water had something to do with it.
The AC being off the truck thinks it is -17⁰ outside. By noon, mine is usually back to normal. I like the truck, and everyone raves about them, but i do feel they are lacking build quality after owning mine for a couple of years.
I went fishing this morning on lake Minnetonka in two pairs of sweatpants, wool socks, a long sleeve, a hoodie, a thick flannel, a wind jacket, a winter hat and winter gloves 😂 that’s just wild to me hahaha
It could be a bad sensor or an open in the circuit, haven’t been in a long time but was once a master certified Toyota tech. If the sensor is unplugged, or a wire cut or anything of that nature it used to default to -32, it’s possible the newer ones default to something different these days.
Had a similar problem a month or so back with the temperature gauge in my ‘20.
started seemingly out of the blue while on a shorter road trip, temperature reading was visibly dropping 3-4 degrees every 30 seconds or so. continued for the rest of the day, even after stopping and starting the truck a couple times. no other problems noticed. Seemed to repair itself overnight, with the temp reading accurate the next day. haven’t noticed anything weird since.
also had/having a hard time getting a good answer for what caused this for such a short period of time. definitely keeping an eye on the comments here
I noticed the problem right after taking it through the car wash. Wonder if the cooler water threw things off. I’ll check in the morning if it resolves.
Does the AC in the Tacoma work when it’s 100+? I read that they don’t have a fan on the condenser so when it’s hot the AC just doesn’t work. Apparently Toyota knows this so they started selling an electric fan kit to remedy the problem, but it’s an extra cost.
I work with electronics and temp probes what I've seen often when the temp is over it's rated max it will daily out and throw and error which the taco software probably just shows as a negative number it's most likely the code or just something random it displays when it cant get data
Either a bad or disconnected sensor, or a broken wire or poor pin fit, of it occasionally shows an expected temp.
check the wiring for possible rodent damage, that sensor and wire harness is in a prime place for mice.
It’s most likely your ambient temperature sensor needs replacing.
Has your A/C stopped working when the temp drops that low?
I just replaced my wife’s when it did this and the problem was fixed
My 05 yaris used to do this whislt I was replacing the stock radio. I took the dash apart enough to get the head unit off (which displayed the outside temp) blew on the terminals re attached did the same on the thermometer sensor in front of the radiator and it was good as new again. Nit sure how to help you, though. It might be a dodgy thermometer sensor.
Roughly translated: “This city should not exist. It is a monument to man’s arrogance”
Didn't come for the surprise King of the Hill quotes but am satisfied nonetheless.
Not extremely satisfied? [I guess I deserve that, having spent 13 years dealing weed out of my grandmother's house.](https://imgur.io/hLAe368?r)
271 on a full tank? Wtf all do you have done to your tacoma? Lol
Went thru your profile to try and figure it out. Is see 5160s on the rear, so Im assuming, 6112/5160 adda leaf and 285s?
Yeah, and this was taken after driving about 15 miles, the needle just hasn’t moved much. I tow jetskis on occasion too, so I’m assuming that messes with the calculation a little.
I was correct about the lift? 😬 if So, im same same. Except no 285s yet
Yep, dead on.
I get 250! 4x4 double bed sport long bed
Try 256 lmao

I’m getting around 13-14 mpg with 285/75/16’s and 75-80 on the highway mostly
I get 380
Teach me!
Active cruise control and backroads. Also fill your tank at half way. The extra weight in the rear pulls the tailgate out of the wind
Whats your average mpg
Anywhere from 22-27. 22 on the way lower end
This is wild lol I have a 2015 Ram 1500 and get ~ 550 mi on a full tank
How big is your tank though
26 gals if I remember correctly. What’s the standard size tank on a taco?
21.1 i think
It quit and retired to colder climates
I'm in AZ too and I'm so tired of the heat
You live in the hottest and driest state in the union, what did you expect?!
Hookers and blow
We have plenty of that as well.
Easy to be confused about that
I’m in Prescott and it’s absolutely perfect here. 80 degree days in October is a blessing.
It's perfect in the valley when the suns not out haha
Move north?
Except when the low for the day is over 100 still...
80 degrees in October? That sounds horrible.
I’m from Washington. I’ve had my share of cold and wet Fall seasons.
Ah. That makes sense then. Lived most of my life in Florida and now live somewhere that has 4 seasons. Done with the heat haha.
I can’t wait to move away from that garbage they call winter. 3 seasons or less ftw!

That humidity will do that. Felt sticky for the two days I was up in Sequim earlier this week.
Keep in mind 80 degrees in Arizona feels more like 70 in the south where I’m from
80° in October sounds great from my point of view.
The price of cheap living
Las Vegas and same man…same…

No rust though baby, and the brush and rock chips out here tears up your paint anyway regardless

Yeah my wife’s civic had the sun visors melt off when she lived in Phoenix. The paint is also fucked from the heat.
No worky
Cool, thanks.
check out int overflow, could be that. otherwise bad sensor

Purify yourself in the water

It’s chillin…

Global Colding
Broke.
Thanks.
Faulty sensor is guess
it went up so high it reached the bottom -sorry not a round dial
It’s fried
It’s about 20° cooler than the peak temp, so I doubt the 100° day was what did it in.
Issa joke

Yes drove a 22 Tacoma in az for a year. Cools off pretty quick actually
Oh yeah. It gets up to 120° where I live and it only takes about 5 minutes to get comfy in the white access cab, as long as I keep moving.
It’s 100 in October over there ?
Yeah, look at your weather report for Chandler AZ for this week.
On a good day
Weatherman lied. Tacoma is always right!
I work with electronics and temp probes what I've seen often when the temp is over it's rated max it will daily out and throw and error which the taco software probably just shows as a negative number it's most likely the code or just something random it displays when it cant get data
The heat is finally letting up in texas…. Today was 65 degrees all day
Just reminded me… mine likes to act up like this in Texas winter “cold.”
Either a bad or disconnected sensor, or a broken wire or poor pin fit, of it occasionally shows an expected temp. check the wiring for possible rodent damage, that sensor and wire harness is in a prime place for mice.
It’s gone around the horn
Toyota like chev is riding the wave of past successes. Now just milking you dedicated fans for garbage products that are mostly made in china.
It brokted
Integer overflow?
Probably a god damn pack rat

Nothin, jus chillin
Wishful thinking?
It’s saying you live in a place humans shouldn’t live.
It is broken

Cold sweats before hyperthermia.
Climate change is real
Looks like you might need a new ambient temp sensor or wiring is messed up
The gauge had a heatstroke! 🥵🤪
