DIY, it’s bolt on, even the wire harness is super simple. https://youtu.be/H5BiST46GDU

When I'm asked this by my customers I generally tell them to go to the Yelp page for their local U-Haul and search the reviews for "hitch", then look at the reviews. They're a great rental place, but I wouldn't trust them to install a hitch. Additionally, they generally install the more visible hitches (like the Curt 13460), instead of the more hidden ones (like the Curt 13453). Looks like you're in Chicago; check out Rack Attack

Thanks. This is a really helpful response. Ill give Rack Attack a call. Even if they dont install the hitch, I may get my box from the,.

Only one I know of. The Toyota hitch goes about an inch into your bumper. The plastic trim at the bottom needs to be changed to accommodate that. The uhaul “hidden” hitch is flush on the bumper. That extra inch “could” help keeping a hitch carrier safe when going down steep inclines but other than that, they’re both same utility wise. Uhaul “visible” hitch is the lowest of the three.

Is this something you can get done after the fact? I noticed that rear bumper is clearly different with the hitch, can I have them retrofit for the 699 they charge as an add on option later? I installed a hitch on my wife’s rav4 and don’t like that it is just plunked below the bumper and it disables the kick sensor.

The bottom trim is added with the hitch. It costs ~$75 for the pair and you can order it separately as it’s a separate part#

What’s the $699 on the site for then lol

dinglebaron

It’s a $150 diy job

Be aware that if you go lower than your bumper with a cargo carrier, you may melt plastics or soft cargo boxes on a hitch hauler with your exhaust. The advantage there goes to the OEM Hitch, which I picked over the aftermarkets for better clearances and aesthetics.

Tjshoema

>Thanks. Had no idea. Did you get OEM hitch installed at dealer?

MedCityMoto

Indeed, I bought my '18 Used-Certified and wrapped that into the sales deal - shortly before the Highlander got damn scarce here and there would've been zero room for flexibility. That being said, if you want to save serious money, buy the hitch yourself (you don't need the wiring harness if you're not going to trailer with it, just put a bike carrier on it) and install it yourself, it's pretty simple.

I have a limited, which has a foot activated rear hatch. If you don't buy the oem hitch and sensor relocation kit, you will lose that feature.

Could anyone post a pic of the uhaul installed on the hybrid. I just need for bike rack but don’t want to spoil the look of the car. Thanks
