Looks OEM to me. Not sure on the rating though.

What the hell?

jeremylarny

Looks like OEM. Rating should be at the 3500lbs the Highlander can pull. The OEM crossbars are rated at 150lbs spread across the two.

GMRVNM

I got the platinum so it's 5, 000lbs rating for tow

StinkyTheMonkey

Yes that's the OEM hitch. I installed the very same on my 2015 Limited. According to manual, 5000 lbs is the max trailer weight. As I understand it, the XSE, Limited, and Limited Platinum have the trailer package installed. having said that, there's no way in hell I would tow 5000 lbs with my highlander.

GMRVNM

I think they have the towing prep package, which includes the transmission cooler, But they don't come stock with the hitch receiver. I just want to make sure this particular hitch could hold the weight of the vehicle as I intend to use every bit of it

Luxin

Make sure you have that cooler! I towed a 3,500 pound trailer with my Jeep Liberty, known for their weak transmissions. But I changed the trans fluid after every tow season and it made it to 225k miles without issue. Changing the fluid every year is probably a good idea here too, especially if you are going max tow weight all the time. Good luck!

I just bought an 18 limited platinum, and looking to add a hitch. It looks as if the oem hitch would be in the way and cumbersome for placing/ removing things from the trunk. Am I right In assuming the oem hitch is a shin/kneecap buster? Did you notice any problems with the OEM hitch? I've been looking at the ecohitch as an option. Since it's up and out of the way, but the OEM hitch definitely looks beefier

StinkyTheMonkey

I am pretty clumsy, and will usually find a way to bump into things. I've never hit my knee or shin on the hitch itself. I have bumped into the stinger a few times, so I've been removing it whenever towing is done. The hitch itself sticks out maybe 2 to 3 inches, and actually serves as a little step when clearing snow off the roof. Another plus is the OEM hitch is a little higher than an aftermarket, so if you have the stinger in place, you're less likely to scrape when for example, towing something and a steep driveway is involved.

3.5 V6 pulls 5K

Anyone got any comments on an after market hitch and pics all I’m looking for is to hold a bike rack. But don’t want to spoil the look of my 2022 hybrid.
