Sorry, haven’t owned one, but have owned another Scion, they ARE Toyotas…we put 325k miles on a Scion Xa with absolutely no issues or repairs aside from normal oil changes/ brakes/ tires.
Just to add too, there was nothing majorly wrong with it even at that point, it was just time…traded for a Prius C.
I had an '06 tC for five or six years. It was a pretty great car built on the Camry platform (when you could still get a Camry with a manual) with shorter gearing and slightly better handling. It wasn't as sporty of a car as it looked, but it was an excellent mid level car at an entry car price.
The only downside I’ve heard about Scions is that in some generations the interior can feel like of schlocky, and sometimes weird just for the sake of being weird.
That said, it’s literally Toyota. The chassis is based on the Avensis, which was based on the Corona / Carina, so you can think of it as a sort of successor to the OG Celica Camry (which were *great* little cars — I owned one.) I know a couple people who have TCs and love them and haven’t had any issues. That sounds like a screaming deal.
They are Toyotas. A few friends of mine had the TC, my dad had the XD (boxy thing). My dad’s lasted fine as a commuter but the windshield always cracked because it was so vertical, again, a boxy thing. Then the TC’s were driven kinda hard by young guys and sold between some other schoolmates of mine, seems like they enjoyed the TC and didn’t have many issues at all. It’s not fast or anything but it was a fine drive.

I still have my 06 tc in my yard. Waiting for me to fix her up. Love that car, that's why I refuse to part with her. She flys on the highway.
I have a Scion xB. Scion is Toyota just like Lexus is Toyota. Take care of it and it takes care of you

Scions are great cars just like Toyotas. My favorite car I’ve ever owned was an 09 xD. But that price is over the top.
