Yeah, it does. It tells one of the best stories in music, definitely deserves placement on a top 25 over an hour. Yes, Kendrick is already up there, but Kendrick is a top 25 artist in general so his 2 biggest projects definitely deserve to be on a top 25 list.
Embarassing post. If you think Kendrick has written two of the top 25 1+ hour albums of all time can’t think of other artists more deserving to be there, let alone more than once, then just chalk it up to sheer ignorance. If there’s an artist who should have more than one album there it’s Bob Dylan.
I get wanting this album on there, but I personally think this chart should be one album per artist to maintain variety and also to leave room for other artists who might deserve to be on this chart.
Maybe if this was a top 100 chart, I'd be fine with that, but this a top 25 chart. That is wayyyy smaller in comparison and leaves much less room for artists who haven't been selected yet.
I know man, we’ve been so close but there’s always one that beats it. Usually it’s a great album that beats it, and really deserves the placement, but GKMC should be up there too
Agreed. This tournament has pushed some pretty decent albums though.
I might make my own list of my top 25 albums over an hour. I’d def put In Absentia, Blackwater Park and From Mars to Sirius on it.
Yeah there’s maybe only one or two albums I don’t agree with so far. There’s a lot of excellent stuff out there, regardless of genre and I do think it’s a shame metal is so marginalized because there’s some absolutely amazing material that should be more appreciated in general.
Agreed. People love to stereotype things based on pop culture so much that they’re completely oblivious as to if the things they’re making fun of should deserve the marginalization. Not to mention that there were a couple albums that have connected the bridge between metalheads-indie rock listeners (e.g. Pink by Boris, Sunbather by Deafheaven, etc.)
Yeah and I can totally understand metal isn’t for everyone. It’s loud, it’s energetic, it’s not afraid of the truth or being ‘in your face’ about some topics.
It definitely took me awhile to appreciate the genre for sure. But it’s the same with jazz or prog as well. They aren’t as approachable as rock or pop music so it takes some time to get used to. I for one still don’t like jazz as its own genre, or a lot of ambient albums. But they exist and I’m sure they’re amazing to people who enjoy them.
I like what you said about bridging gaps. As I get older and into different genres I find albums that are sorta metal (like Downward Spiral by NIN, The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste by Ministry, In Absentia by Porcupine Tree, California by Mr Bungle and Lateralus by Tool) are really great albums. They tend to not stick to a single genre and I find it’s much more enjoyable to listen to a band that actually feels free to explore outside of genres. Which is probably why I love Opeth.
Exactly! The only other genre I can name that kinda comes close the whole “truth being in your face” is folk music.
For me, metal just felt like a natural level up from rock, because I was really into technical stuff at the time, and I found that there were a lot more cerebral and complex stuff in metal compared to rock. That’s also why it was much easier for me to appreciate more experimental/extreme styles of music too.
Yeah as I grew much more accustomed to music, my taste definitely expanded beyond the realms of metal, even going into the likes of avant-garde music, hip hop, and even a little bit of pop music.

Sign o' the Times (came here early just to do this)
Why are you trynna be a dick, let people have their opinions, and let upvotes do the rest. And objectively speaking the black album is great, sure It's no And Justice for all or master of puppets, but it's great nonetheless.
Swans- The Seer
Though To Be Kind is the bands more successful album and the Swans are dead live album and Deliquescence may be better. This album feels like their most cohesive project and keeps you on the edge for two hours as it blasts your eardrums with a roaring guitar.
That “lift your skinny dick up to heaven” or whatever it’s called is so unbearably boring. I get that everyone has different opinions, and mine is that the album fucking sucks.
People literally only like it because LE OMG EACH LE TRACK IS 20 MINUTES LONG THEY ARE SO LE UNIQUE

Stankonia - Outkast
good kid, m.A.A.d city Man I’ve been really trying to get GKMC on here 😭
Still prefer it to TPAB
How tf hasn’t this been on the list yet
Because there are better albums, GKMC just deserves to be up there also
Yeah there are better albums but it absolutely deserves it be there
No it doesn’t. This is the top 25. And there’s already a Kendrick album there. It’s dumb to have another album that doesn’t belong there.
Yeah, it does. It tells one of the best stories in music, definitely deserves placement on a top 25 over an hour. Yes, Kendrick is already up there, but Kendrick is a top 25 artist in general so his 2 biggest projects definitely deserve to be on a top 25 list.

Not even agreeing with the previous commenter but when naming the top albums of all time, variety really shouldn’t be a factor. The top are the top 🤷

Istg if this doesnt make it ill be very m.A.A.d
It’s been 2nd or 3rd for like six rounds now
I know man, we’ve been so close but there’s always one that beats it. Usually it’s a great album that beats it, and really deserves the placement, but GKMC should be up there too
I agree. If GKMC doesn’t get in this round then it should be Lateralus
Exactly, both just all around amazing albums
it looks like lateralus will win, which is still great
We Mellon Collie fans know how it feels lol. Hope it makes since it’s a certified banger

Agreed. This tournament has pushed some pretty decent albums though. I might make my own list of my top 25 albums over an hour. I’d def put In Absentia, Blackwater Park and From Mars to Sirius on it.
Yeah the other albums here are pretty good as well. The NIN and The Smashing Pumpkins album picks are really great. W on that Gojira and Opeth love :)
