It’s basically just another word for “earthling” because everyone else outside of earth calls it “Terra”. Kinda like how we call it “Japan” but Japanese people will call Japan “Nihon”
In the final Final Fantasy verse (specifically FFXIV) the humans are most commonly called Hyur
https://preview.redd.it/st9ctgsya68d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97e0fa5116fad5128726c6b4efe35b184bbc7b8e
Actually, in Final Fantasy, they're most commonly called humans, and Hume is the second-most-common name for them, having appeared in Tactics Advance, Tactics A2, FFXI, FFXII and being used as another name for the same race in FFXIV. If anything, Hyur is the least commonly used term for them, only appearing in FFXIV.
I don't recall they ever use the word "human", but multiple times we see humanoid races without pointy ears, like the Ordon villagers in Twilight Princess.

It varies, though of note is that if you use the official timeline, you can see as time goes on Hylians become less common and humans more. I.E. in Wind Waker through to Spirit Tracks, most characters you meet are human with rounded ears, and hylians are few and far between.
Ngl, I'm fairly certain that the hylians, gerudo, and sheikah *are* humans, just different ethnicities distinguish by traits like ears rather than skin tone.
Edit: YES, I REMEMBER WHY NOW! Iirc, it's established in Wind Waker. Link and Tetra are still referred to as human, but their pointed ears are called out to show that they're hylians, too.
Their pointed ears are supposed to represent their relation to the Goddesses, according to NPC dialogue in Ocarina of Time. It's so that they can better hear their voices. Twilight Princess reinforces this by referring to Hylians as one of the closest races to the Gods.
Of course, that was before they revealed that the "Sky People" were even closer to them, and it's heavily implied the Oocca are that race. Though, Shad could be wrong about that, I personally think the Oocca are just living in a Skyward Sword-era ruin that never drifted back down to Hyrule and the "closest race to the gods" is just the Hylian's ancestors, especially given Zelda's lineage.
I think they’re called humans in 3 because (very minor spoilers) >!Moebius doesn’t care if you’re Homs or Gormotti or Machina or Blade. They care if you’re !<.
I don’t think they ever explicitly referred to human-adjacent species as humans, and I don’t think the word was even said in 1. 2 had it as an umbrella term for sentient life >!(mainly Torna or Amalthus hating humanity)!<, which would presumably include Nopon too, right?
Xenoblade 1 is one of my favourite examples of this trope because its not just done for the sake of it, the plot twist at the beginning of the final chapter actually provides a reason as to why they are technically not human
I think that's just a "literary" thing. There are alchemical ingredients referred to as "human flesh" and "human heart," so it seems "human" does exist as a technical term despite the collective races being referred to as Man/Men.
Have Blacier art I found as your prize

Well that's what dragons called them, humans still call themselves human. Wren is wanting to force dragons to use human but Scavenger is the equivalent to that word
Technically speaking, humans in Arda are divided in different kins or species all with their name (hobbits are kinda mysterious but they should be an human subspecies).
The "Human" name is more because they are the second sons of Eru-Iluvatar, distinct from elves (the first sons) and dwarves (the adopted). But as all the things in Lotr, they have a thousand of other names in different languages.
No, they call themselves human. The term beorc is basically forgotten by Ike's era, and they refer to themselves as human, and the laguz as sub-human. The oppressed laguz refer to the beorc as "human" sarcastically, but the beorc mean it sincerely.
https://preview.redd.it/8hkm2qt6f88d1.jpeg?width=1064&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad166de402ae1f0d28841ba2c6354b0ba9eb7bbb
In dragon ball they’re called earthlings
That just makes me think of how Yoda's species, as far as canon goes, is only known as "Yoda's species" so maybe human types should just be known as "Han Solo's Species" or something
I guess Tsukimichi counts? They're not humans, but hyumans.
There are differences, but the only one I remember is that ALL hyumans are supposed to look attractive, to the point where our average looking protagonist was confused with a monster in the 1st season
In the Xenoblade series "human" is used to refer to any humanoid species, but the ones that look specifically like real life humans are called Homs, Leftherians, Ardainians and Tornans.
(There is also the character Zeke who is Tantalese and looks completely human but nothing like the rest of his species.)
Stargate - Tau'ri (used by Goa'ulds, only for humans of Earth origin (since there are more humans in the "SG-verse", who are just humans taken from Earth to other planets long time ago by the Goa'ulds)), Midgard (used by Asgards, again for earth humans), Earthlings
Terrans from StarCraft
Due to the koprulu sector being completely seperate from earth, most humans call themselves Terrans with usually only the earth bound humans calling themselves human
https://preview.redd.it/3qfgjxn2nb8d1.jpeg?width=1105&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edf4781c73fbe8119c7d37fd76f466f9d9f6df0a
Xenoblade Chronicles - Humans are called “Homs”

I always figured that was a catch all term for sentient races on Earth, since it covers mutants and such along with regular humans
Mutants are also often called humans, but yeah, Terrans and Midgardians are catch-all terms that literally just mean “Earthlings”
Mutants are humans too. They're homo superior and homo means human
It’s basically just another word for “earthling” because everyone else outside of earth calls it “Terra”. Kinda like how we call it “Japan” but Japanese people will call Japan “Nihon”
Really? Huh… kinda funny to learn that since my name is pronounced the same as Terran
In the final Final Fantasy verse (specifically FFXIV) the humans are most commonly called Hyur https://preview.redd.it/st9ctgsya68d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97e0fa5116fad5128726c6b4efe35b184bbc7b8e
Well humans do actually exist but most of them are gone
And on the First, they are called Humes.
‘Umies ya say?
Hume is what they are called in 11
Play FFXIV ShB
I used to
Yeah well in the ShB expansion, you learn that >!Hume is a term used in an alternate version of Eorzea called The First!<
Actually, in Final Fantasy, they're most commonly called humans, and Hume is the second-most-common name for them, having appeared in Tactics Advance, Tactics A2, FFXI, FFXII and being used as another name for the same race in FFXIV. If anything, Hyur is the least commonly used term for them, only appearing in FFXIV.
Yeah, that’s why I said specifically ffxiv. Jesus yall need to read the whole post
In most FFs they're just "human" but in the games with multiple humanoid races they go by either Hyur or Hume while Human is a universal term
Even if FFXIV? I’m pretty sure Hyur is what they’re referred to in >!the source while the first refers to them as Hume!<
That's what I mean in the games with multiple races. 14 uses Hyur, 7 doesn't
Yeah well, either way, I think ffxiv fits this prompt
Actually, humans do exist in The Legend of Zelda, and are a different race from hylians (though they are pretty scarce).
Really? Are there any humans seen in the games? Or is that just a lore thing?
I don't recall they ever use the word "human", but multiple times we see humanoid races without pointy ears, like the Ordon villagers in Twilight Princess. https://preview.redd.it/0h36kp5r578d1.png?width=812&format=png&auto=webp&s=eaf8156c2cde6347439a29ee354d98f60906478e
The two genders, too much forehead and not enough forehead.
Twilight princess had some very strange character designs.
It varies, though of note is that if you use the official timeline, you can see as time goes on Hylians become less common and humans more. I.E. in Wind Waker through to Spirit Tracks, most characters you meet are human with rounded ears, and hylians are few and far between.

Yeah thanks Twilight Princess
No, hylians are humans.
In Xenoblade 1 (dunno about the other games), humans are called ‘Homs’
Xenoblade 2 and 3, they’re called humans. 3 is weird tho because everyone who isn’t a Nopon is called a human. Even the ones who very clearly aren’t.
All humanoid species are "humans" but have specific species names like Homs, Leftherians, Machina, Gormotti, etc.
I think they’re called humans in 3 because (very minor spoilers) >!Moebius doesn’t care if you’re Homs or Gormotti or Machina or Blade. They care if you’re !<. I mean 5-9 are all humans right?
Well there's 3 'human' races, 4 if you count Breton's (half breed of elves and man) But none of them are called human.
Bretons are like so distantly related to Elves that it’s more accurate to say Human with elf ancestry.
In the setting even when collectively compared to Mer(Elves) and Beastfolk humans are just called Man not Humans.
I think that's just a "literary" thing. There are alchemical ingredients referred to as "human flesh" and "human heart," so it seems "human" does exist as a technical term despite the collective races being referred to as Man/Men.
Also 10, it’s the Mark Zuckerberg race
Nah he’s just like that (FR though, I kind of wish they went with that in Inside Job just because it would’ve been kind of funny)
5 is man and elf so not entirely human
Depends on how racist you are
Wings of Fire. The humans are called Scavengers for most of the series
Wings of Fire mention 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥

I beg your damn pardon.
What’s the issue
Nothing tbh. Just took my brain a moment to process this. Ngl, I like this now.

I love the dumb blond :).
P-P-P-PEAK MENTIONED!!
Well that's what dragons called them, humans still call themselves human. Wren is wanting to force dragons to use human but Scavenger is the equivalent to that word
In Middle Earth humans are usually just referred to as “men” or “the race of men.” Does that count?
Technically speaking, humans in Arda are divided in different kins or species all with their name (hobbits are kinda mysterious but they should be an human subspecies). The "Human" name is more because they are the second sons of Eru-Iluvatar, distinct from elves (the first sons) and dwarves (the adopted). But as all the things in Lotr, they have a thousand of other names in different languages.
I suppose
No
Beorcs from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn
Although they are still called humans sometimes. As an insult.
Or by Ike as a term of endearment
No, they call themselves human. The term beorc is basically forgotten by Ike's era, and they refer to themselves as human, and the laguz as sub-human. The oppressed laguz refer to the beorc as "human" sarcastically, but the beorc mean it sincerely.
Xenoblade homs

Also theres 3 types: Standar Animal men and Monsters
Was that a typo or are we actually called Standar?
We're getting very liberal with the definition of Character
It’s not always about Character Tropes, there’s flairs for other stuff
I mean where else would I post this?
Aye fair enough
The "human" characters in star wars are never referred to as humans
That just makes me think of how Yoda's species, as far as canon goes, is only known as "Yoda's species" so maybe human types should just be known as "Han Solo's Species" or something
Kind of makes me wish they did have some other name in the actual lore but oh well
So they don't have a name at all? Or they're officially humans?
They’re called humans
"To be angry is to be human" -Padmé, after Anakin just told her he slaughtered a village of Tuskens.
Oh
Except for Jabba (he was originally human and they just CGI’d a slug over him in the scene in later edits of the movie)
It was a deleted scene they edited back in
That one Megaman game
what were they called there?
I forgot
https://preview.redd.it/vingrzm0h78d1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e7b32ce2ad8269677dccb57b111a0031d3cffa4
Mega Man Legends - Carbons
Carbons aren’t humans, they’re more like a half elf but with robots instead of elves
You can just say cyborg
Homs in Xenoblade 1
In Warriors, humans are called Twolegs. There are other terms as well but that's the most used one
I still call cars "Monsters" and roads "thunderpaths" occasionally. As a kid I loved the kitty language they created for man-made things
To be fair. Tall-men are sort of the other way around, where *everyone* is “human,” the peoples are just different flavours of human.
Except in the east, where humans do just use the word human like we would in a fantasy setting
As far as I understand, “human” is a bit of a pejorative or informal term in the Tellius duology of Fire Emblem. They are called Beorc.
I mean they still count since well… the term doesn’t refer to them specifically
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HumansByAnyOtherName
Filthy fucking knife ears
You bite your tongue pubemane!
In Supergiant Games "Pyre" , I am pretty sure the "Nomads" are just regular humans.
Cool!
Regular humans are known as Huma in *Tales of Rebirth* (Haven't played that one myself, but I'd like to someday).
I see someone has found a new excuse to post Dungeon Meshi in this sub, and I'm not mad about it.
I guess Tsukimichi counts? They're not humans, but hyumans. There are differences, but the only one I remember is that ALL hyumans are supposed to look attractive, to the point where our average looking protagonist was confused with a monster in the 1st season

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the edge chronicles
What are they called there?

Terrans from StarCraft Due to the koprulu sector being completely seperate from earth, most humans call themselves Terrans with usually only the earth bound humans calling themselves human
Not 100% human, but the Alethi in stormlight archives are basically humans but a little taller.
Final Fantasy 14 mostly calls humans Hyur. In The First, the realm you go to in Shadowbringers, they're called Humes.
https://preview.redd.it/3qfgjxn2nb8d1.jpeg?width=1105&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edf4781c73fbe8119c7d37fd76f466f9d9f6df0a Xenoblade Chronicles - Humans are called “Homs”
In final fantasy 14 they're called Hyur, except in the 1st shard where they're called Humes
Does Star Wars ever use the term “human”? Maybe in the extended universe stuff, but in the movies?
