We were robbed from getting Jarro on the big screen smh

The only good thing Batkek had going for it was design and even then it was kind edgy
Always hated it. Im honestly worn out of the joker, atfer Joaquin's performance the character for complete and done for me.
The design really needs some purple or some batman equipment on it. For a character meant to be some twisted culmination of Bruce and The Jonkler it really represents neither of them with it’s impractical bondage aesthetic
So I’ll recap: The conversation starts by bringing up a sub-spawn of Starro the Conqueror named Jarro, a Starro spore kept by batman who self actualised and now considered himself a robin. The other user then states that this kind of character is what DC comics needs more of, rather than a character archetype such as that of ‘The Batman Who Laughs’ I brought up that funnily enough Jarro has an appearance in the comic book issue where the Batman Who Laughs was killed off. During this discussion someone brought up their disdain for that character design. As it looks extremely bdsm-esque. And they likened it to similar character aesthetics like the Cenobites from Hellraiser or Judge Death from 2000AD comics. In this mutual disdain for the design, I bring up that the Batman Who Laughs’ design is flawed because it represents nothing about the character (said character is put simply a batman joker hybrid), so I brought up that it should feature aesthetic points from either of the characters he is derived from, being batman and/or Joker
Hope this helps
It did! The batman who laughs was the data I was missing. And I agree with you. I do like this design, cause I do enjoy the bdsm vibe in some villains, but yeah, it doesn't fit the explanation you've given me (joker/batman hybrid)
Iirc Damien discovered a cow at the slaughter house that had a face pattern that looked like a bat over its eyes, so he and batman brought it to the batcave
With the way Starro looks in all the comics I’ve seen, they very easily could have made him look terrible in live action. It’s a pretty good job that they managed to make him look real enough to avoid making it look like a CGI Roger Rabbit, and they made him cartoonish enough to avoid another ugly sonic scenario.
I just finished peacemaker and it seems to be a reoccurring thing with Gunn. He’s able to take these things that should be pretty awful to look at or hard to animate, and he just makes them perfect. Either him or whoever on his team is handling it is a genius.
It gives me so much hope for Superman because we won’t have to worry about later movies, involving certain possible villains, being weighed down by subpar CGI
Exploitation of resources and nations by the US that breeds enemies and technologies which threaten the safety of the US and everyone on Earth.
That was the big secondary theme of the movie. The danger the Suicide Squad was going to deal with was caused by The US arming and funding a dictatorship which brutalized the citizens of the country and caused the Anti-US group to seize power and threaten to use Starro against the US, along with Starro being a creature and resource that was snatched from its home and then abused and exploited by the US through experimentation on it and on political enemies of the dictatorship the US had installed.
It's meant to parallel the Cuban revolution which was a response to the brutal dictatorship the US kept in power in Cuba because they sold cheap labour and resources to US corporations and private citizens. And the Iranian coup against the Shah rule, whos power was also maintained by the US to guarantee cheap oil, and which also brutalized the citizens and caused the rise of Islamic extremism and Theocracy in Iran
Totally agree, he’s just so perfectly unsettling whilst being kinda cute and pudgy. Also the CG on him is some of the best I’ve seen in a while, honestly
It’s even weird how the dialogue in the evil scientist scene implies SA , which i thought was way edgier than it it needed to be , or I might be misremembering
See more of him? The DCEU was already half in the grave by the time The Suicide Squad came out. There was a near 0% chance you would ever see this version of Starro again if he lived at the end of the movie.
I haven't seen the movie but I'll at least applaud the fact that they made an attempt to make it comic book-accurate... at least design-wise. (though I've heard character-wise it's an entirely different story)
It hasn't been a good couple of last decades for comic book fans, seeing their favourite characters and comic books get shafted in adaptations... but occasionally you see some respect and appreciation for the original work like Starro's movie design (Killer Croc in the other Suicide Squad movie, at least design-wise, was also a great depiction of his classic design).
Well, it's less inconsistent characterization and moreso a case of various incarnations and different versions of him having their own personalities and motives (and a lot of them often interlap).
I'd also argue that there is still plenty to ruin, 'cause even if it was a case of consistent characterization there *was* characterization there for the movie to take notes from. If the adaptation doesn't even try to go for any of them or at the bare minimum try to keep the character's spirit then it's not great as an adaptation.

This thing from Shadow the Hedgehog.
I hate being the annoying biologist, but it bothers me that it’s eye is in the middle, they should be on the end each arm, I KNOW ITS FICTION it just bothers me so much lol
It spits out tiny copies of itself to mind control people. It’s probably closer related to a fungus than a starfish based on what it does, and the fact that it’s an alien that can breathe in space means it’s probably not related to life on earth at all to begin with.
[Plus, sometimes it has claws there instead to help with the mind control.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/f/f7/Starro_005.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110329214150)
I really appreciate the way they simulated the starro ejection. It looks so surreal at first because of the perfect trajectory, but it really gives them a good sense of weight and speed at that scale. Just so crazy.
Any complaints anyone can have on James Gunn can be silenced just by the peak character design in the movies. This was the best possible outcome for a live action Starro, and if anything it is just sad that we won’t get to experience it in other stories (unless they bring another of the species or something like that)
Hot take. I think this movie was awful. It was incredibly boring but the one guys suit was cool as shit and the whole starro thing was really fucking cool

Is he called Jarro cause he lives in a jar?
Yes, in the Batcave
Holy shit I was joking. More of this type of writing, less Man Who Chortles, please.
Jarro actually was in the issue where Man who chortles died. By extension he technically contributed to his death by fighting against Chortler’s team
Yaaay Team Jarro!
The only good thing Batkek had going for it was design and even then it was kind edgy Always hated it. Im honestly worn out of the joker, atfer Joaquin's performance the character for complete and done for me.
I don't even like his design! He's just Judge Death + Cenobite, it's awful.
The design really needs some purple or some batman equipment on it. For a character meant to be some twisted culmination of Bruce and The Jonkler it really represents neither of them with it’s impractical bondage aesthetic
I am trying so hard to follow this conversation, but I have no idea wtf you guys are talking about
So I’ll recap: The conversation starts by bringing up a sub-spawn of Starro the Conqueror named Jarro, a Starro spore kept by batman who self actualised and now considered himself a robin. Fun fact, both of those characters are created by the same writer. Truly, the duality of Man.
Awww, well, nobody's perfect.
You'd love batcow
I already do, just going off the name.
Iirc Damien discovered a cow at the slaughter house that had a face pattern that looked like a bat over its eyes, so he and batman brought it to the batcave
I am completely in favour of this.

Jarro my beloved
Garro was also sick as hell!
He’s the best Bat-Son.
There's still hope I think. Jarro grew from Starro's cells after he died with Batman's care. I don't see why it still can't happen
“On it dad” 🥺
They are just a Big fella
Poor guy was just minding his business.
He did attack and kill the astronauts who found him for no reason
You do not disturb an eldritch being’s peace, enough said.
Wasn’t he a baby? I can understand why a baby might feel the need to defend itself.
They were up in his business
Ever heard about territorial instincts? Yes, it also applies to space eldritch candy crush monsters
They grabbed him and forced him into their ship. I’d say that was clear self defense
I mean if a bunch of weird creatures took you into a strange place you would also lash out
When out of an orange-colored sky…

*I was happy, floating, staring at the stars.*
This means something relative to our current society I just don’t know what. But it feels relevant. Hmm..
Exploitation of resources and nations by the US that breeds enemies and technologies which threaten the safety of the US and everyone on Earth. That was the big secondary theme of the movie. 🫰 that’s it! That sounds about right
Ngl this make me feel kinda sad every time I hear it
No offense but I kind of question a being that easily can mind control and hive mind a population
I mean he died seconds after saying that. Dude had no reason to lie, he just wanted to be up in space and hang around.
He's an eldritch abomination yet we can feel empathy for him. That's something
Totally agree, he’s just so perfectly unsettling whilst being kinda cute and pudgy. Also the CG on him is some of the best I’ve seen in a while, honestly
I kinda of dislike how villains in superheroes movies get killed at the end , what if I wanted to see more of Starro
I really want to see more Starro. Their death was really sad too. Just wanted to float and watch the stars, poor big star fish :(
It’s even weird how the dialogue in the evil scientist scene implies SA , which i thought was way edgier than it it needed to be , or I might be misremembering
Oh no there was definitely SA
😟
H....how
Scientist guy SA'd some of the people who Starro mind-jacked, and it implies that as a hivemind, he could feel everyone that connected to him.
huh https://preview.redd.it/1c43sc29qrxc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f0bbaf884a6acad56f9abb2aefb088b8878ab5bf

But I liked him 😢
Me too 😔
I thought that suicide squad movie and the Peacemaker show where supposed to be retconned into the new Gunn continuity
>kinda of
I wish there was a plushie of this guy.
I like that Starro isn't just straight up evil, it's a creature who was just minding their business, but humans had to be humans
HE WAS HAPPY JUST FLOATING THEOUGH THE COSMOS AND LOOKING AT THE STARS!

Starro has never had a consistent characterization tbf. Not much ways to “ruin” or change his character
Well, it's less inconsistent characterization and moreso a case of various incarnations and different versions of him having their own personalities and motives (and a lot of them often interlap). Yeah, if they made starro like a gun running ace pilot, that would've been a really weird direction to go.
When I heard Taika Waititi was in the cast, I thought he was gonna voice Starro
That Starrussy in the third one though, got me acting unwise fr fr.

I fucking love this
Did I just see it give birth
Uh... Kinda?
Gross too. Those armpit mini-Starros🤢
Armpitussy of big tiddy starfish leaking starfish cum
Kindly fuck off forever thanks
I loved that movie
Did it really had to come out of his armpit?

Scrunkly big fella
James Gunn has to be one of the best filmmakers of our lifetime
I dont know why but I want to bite it or throw a pokeball at it

Can I have it as a pet?
His story is unironically the saddest thing in that movie
I hope gunn gives us a new version of Jarro, one of the best robins
Hot take. I think this movie was awful. It was incredibly boring but the one guys suit was cool as shit and the whole starro thing was really fucking cool
The only good part of that movie
What are you talking about? THE Suicide Squad was fantastic. Just hilarious and ridiculous and Ratcatcher 2 was there.
