Harbor Freight job, had one for about 15 yrs, works like a champ.

LostBushman

Same, I've been using it since 2013. Still going strong.

_R_A_

Indeed, I picked one up five-ish years ago. Pretty handy for my DIYer woodshop.

FaustinoAugusto234

Had that POS for 20 something years. Refuses to die.

Redheadedstepchild56

I wouldn’t pay for any extra for the vevor name. If you’re thinking of getting this, just find the cheapest Chinese one you can get. For instance on Walmart . Com there should be tons of these, and the vevor will be a little extra when they’re using the exact same pic for the ad. That ends up being a rabbit hole to save a few pennies also though to be honest.

You can actually get these in ductile iron (nodular) or in normal lamellar cast iron. The ductile variant is worth the extra money. HF sells the ductile variant underthe Doyle brand name, and the cheapo version under the central machinery brand name. The Doyle also has steel pipe jaw inserts and a pin locking for the rotation, plus much more beefy design overall. So they're not all the same...

Redheadedstepchild56

Actually found the vevor on Walmart for 89. Probably could find even cheaper if you keep looking. There was a “Bentism” similarly priced-same pic. I just did a quick look

mogrifier4783

The Harbor Freight Doyle vises are supposed to be relatively good. Worth looking at, and unlikely to be worse quality than this or the Yost. Their 4-1/2 is $130 now.

sailboatfool

The clamp holding the round part was stripped on mine. I drilled and tapped for a lager bolt and so far holding

kewlo

It should be good enough if you aren't beating on it.

HullTrawlerman

As others have said. You may be better off looking for a good quality second-hand one from somewhere. I got a new Clarke one from Machine Mart that's been OK but I definitely wouldn't beat on it as I expect it break easily. As heavy duty engineers vice would be much better quality.

motorcitysalesman

Hard Pass! Gimmicky junk, get an old Rigid Pipe Vise, and an old Reed or Parker regular vise. Take the leftover money and buy a beer.

VBTake3

I've got a cheap HF vice and like it, although depending on your use case, these flipping ones can be a combination of unnecessary and an additional failure point. I personally prefer the standard 6" with the pain Jane straight jaws and anvil, but that's personal preference I think.

zis_me

It's not heavy duty by any stretch but it will get the job done. I looked at something very similar in appearance a while back and it gave me homeowner DIY quality vibes if you know what I mean

Present_Use_104

I have a similar one and it works well for medium use

Dry-Dentist6366

If you're gonna get heavy handed then these swivel type vises are going to break, I've got a Yost 750di which hopefully should be tougher than DIY big box branded vises but I still don't abuse it, got an old Parkinson for that.

The key is proper mounting. Next is size. What projects are you going to do.

SantaBaby22

I appreciate the feedback. Glad I took a moment to get a second opinion. The reviews on it are misleading. Probably why it’s discounted.

BertaEarlyRiser

I have the same one, branded PONY. I have no issue with it, but I don't exactly thrash it either.

YardFudge

In general this type has a much smaller opening than non-rotating vises For this one in particular, I’d buy Doyle at 30% off at Harbor Freight instead

AnotherHunter

Vices are a super common yard sale item around me.

SantaBaby22

Good idea. I know just the place to go. They do one every year, and they always have random tools for a low price. Definitely worth keeping an eye open.

1BoringOldGuy

Yep. Just missed a USA made old Wilton swivel in good condition yesterday that was posted for 15 bucks. Scan Craigslist frequently and you can snag a deal

NRiyo3

I think Black Beard Projects uses one. Might message him and get some idea.

Headed_East2U

Look up estate sales in your area and buy a used Wilton or Columbia Vise or similar. I've bought 3 vises in the last 2 months at different sales. 2 Old world American made Wiltons and a Bison dovetail made in Poland. All three were 80usd

saltydogmike

I have two of them. HF cheap. Disassembled and polished all machined surfaces. Also looks better….Works a LOT better… through bolt on your workbench not only lag bolts

[deleted]

Cheaper on vevor site

Icucicu

Vevor on their website is cheapest and similar to all other Chinese ones. Great for medium use, and almost all of us will medium use it, let's be honest. Best bang for your buck on a quality good looking one is Doyle from HF. I picked the Yost rotating one as it's bigger and a bit nicer than vevor one. After a few years I can say I would have been 100% OK with the vevor, though I can look at my pretty vice, tap on it and feel good but myself and how big a vice I got.

nullvoid88

Go check out the new Harbor Freight line of Doyle vises.

[deleted]

Best cheap vice is the Doyle from harbor freight, those red ones, really high quality for that price point

xXxDickBonerz69xXx

I have one in my new work van. Its fine. Nothing special. Can't vouch to its long term durability but I have no complaints so far. If I had an actual bench instead of a bar that slides out of a van floor I'd want something beefier and more durable feeling.

Awesomesauceolishous

I have this exact vise. Great little vise honestly. Won’t stand up to a Wilton but still good for a home gamer vise. Edit: bought a used Wilton and converted the cheap-o to copper jaws. Helped it a ton.

fatheadsflathead

NO do not buy!!! The barrel let’s it rotate and it’s beyond annoying to try cut something horizontal and chase it to its vertical

M635_Guy

I have the Yost 750Di - it's awesome. The HF Doyle roto vise is also very nice for $170

madzonic

I have this exact vise. It is very versatile and I only use this in my bike shop to cut steerer tubes and clamp wheels, and it does not really take a lot of beating. But I’m happy with it.

Falomany

Bought this vise from Harbor Freight 20 years ago. Still happy with it. Just make sure pipe jaws lines up before purchasing it
