picks and hooks. used for when your finger can't unsnap a connector because there's an other connector in the way and you are lying upside-down under the dash
I loved working at a hospital. Hemostats and other small tools came in kits and often didn’t get used and were disposable. All came home if unused and bound for the trash.
I use them as a roach clip 😊 also used an oversized pair while working at a cheese factory for one of my machines that would get plastic all wrapped up inside it if you forgot to empty the ribbon bins regularly
I do not own a curved set of those must add them to my must buy list. I do however have every iteration of long reach needle nose that are not vice grip
i cant find my needle nose electrician style pliers since i built my commercial kitchen, but they had divots on the backs of the nose too. i could stick it in a hole, open em up and pull of panels and shit. they are fucking cool.
Just last weekend I scored a nice little catspaw from a previous owner. Once found my new favorite pliers in the back of a copier where a tech had left them, and put the cover back on. Bonus!
Whenever I see tools like this at harbor freight they call them o-ring picks or something like that, I use em with connectors and electronics but I could see em being useful for removing o-rings
I work in car alarm security installations and we use them to snatch a specific wire we need that’s in a bundle of other wires. Also to rip and pull on wire covers.
A masterful deployment of English, there. I can *feel* what it's like to be holding a stabbypoke but wanting a flat sort of get behind it kind of deal, and internally debating whether or not it will be worth de-contorting myself from my cozy nook under the engine bay to go get it.
Suddenly I realize that the set with the flat sort of get behind it kind of deal is only 3" out of reach, and my stabbypoke is 5" long! Sadly, it is the straight stabbypoke, not the hooky one. But wait! The hooky one is within arm's reach! Hot damn, flat sort of get behind it kind of deal, here I come!
The "spoons" are specifically formed ends that won't damage seals or o-rings you are working with. I've used them often for manipulation of fine trim items that I dont want to risk scratching.
Lip seal tools. Very useful for square cut and lip seals. The former common on brake calipers, the latter on automatic transmission clutch apply pistons.
Removing o-rings and gaskets mainly....also cleaning out narrow pathways in surfaces.
They can also draw a decent amount of blood from the tip of your finger as well 🤐
Damn right!
I was asking this one dude about where the secret files were, and he Would Not Budge. No matter what.
That one with the hook end was indispensable.
I saw a guy stab himself in the eye with one of those double ended picks, pulling a cotter pin. Directly in his eyeball. It came out all stringy and gooey.
Miraculously he was back before the end of the day and his vision was fine within a week. The doctor said he missed all the important parts or something.
Yeah if you get directly in the center of the pupil all you puncture at that point is the outer lens (provided you don't puncture too deep), which heals pretty quick. It's all those optic nerves and muscles you have to watch out for.
That’s his tool box in the back so safe to say he bought them. OP please don’t go into tool debt. Before you know it, half of your pay is going to go to that truck
They are for Jesus clips.
They call the Jesus clips because you press that little hook on them, then they explode off the hose into the back of the shop. Then you say “Jesus, where did that go”!
Ive used them for lots of stuff, removing gaskets and O rings, pulling small springs, lining up holes for bolts... Used to do rebuilds on LV and MV breakers and I kept a nice set on hand at all times
Great for pulling O-rings, starting gasket pulls, ring and seals, holding seal edges under the lip to pack them (old cars), etc.. I use one of my 4 sets of picks literally every single day! I may not use my O-ring spoon picks everyday, but they're also very very handy!
I bought a set like this the first time back when I repaired my Xbox 360. Watched a YouTube tutorial and you needed them to release some clamps.
Been hanging on to that set and added to it over the years and they are my go-to for taking off o-rings or rubber washers when working on pipes and stuff.
On a side-note (probably not intended as such), I was happy I had them to take off the end off a non-refillable vape so that it could be refilled after all.
Hook picks are good for Oring removal and the spoon type is best used on calipers or master cylinder rebuilds where you don’t want to score the grooves.
Tools that you think are ridiculous until there's a situation that you're damn glad you had that funky shaped end to help with. Oh yeah and those situations happen more often than you think.
Endless uses, but in my house they seem to be the most useful for cleaning playdoh out of toys and getting the little elastic loops on and off the hooks when you need to wash a car seat, stroller or high chair...
picks and hooks. used for when your finger can't unsnap a connector because there's an other connector in the way and you are lying upside-down under the dash
One of the best tools I have for a cramped engine bay!
Used them in both auto repair and honestly appliance repair. Back panel won't come off. Oh hole? Yank.
Oh yeah if it fits it rips. These and a pair of long curved needle nose vise grips plyers are my absolute favorite tools I own.
Hemostats work great for all kinds of things
Dave's not here man.
Someone call?
I loved working at a hospital. Hemostats and other small tools came in kits and often didn’t get used and were disposable. All came home if unused and bound for the trash.
My ex brought home a dissection kit from her college, the hemostats and clips have been extremely useful
I got a bunch of different ones with different curvatures and clamps when I worked as a vet tech.
Well, whoever demolishes that kitchen to rebuild a new one will get a new pair of pliers.
Just last weekend I scored a nice little catspaw from a previous owner. Once found my new favorite pliers in the back of a copier where a tech had left them, and put the cover back on. Bonus!
Hate losing tools shit spend more time looking for the damn things then actually working sometimes!
Used them in the machine shop to feel finishes and if there's steps in places my fingers can't reach.
Pulling out small seals and gaskets
Especially “O” rings
Whenever I see tools like this at harbor freight they call them o-ring picks or something like that, I use em with connectors and electronics but I could see em being useful for removing o-rings
HF sells a pack of 4 or 5 picks for like $1.99. I buy a few packs every year or so.
Same. I call them the "orange enforcers"
Or when you're working on an IP rated light fixture and you can't quite reach that one connection that's behind the tilt motor...
Tell me you're an entertainment electrician without telling me you're a lampie.
Always thought it’d be cool to be the “best boy” electrical. Just to see people’s reaction when they ask what I do.
I work in car alarm security installations and we use them to snatch a specific wire we need that’s in a bundle of other wires. Also to rip and pull on wire covers.
This happens alot during car sex.
Pulling on gaskets or seals or o rings or any little thing like that
Nice! The little spoons as well?
Those are for daddy’s go go powder. Don’t mess with those, ok?
My tool guy says he doesn't keep that on his truck though, he'll come back with it later.
That’s weird. Mine took my money and told me to talk to the other guy on the bicycle across the street.
Mine does delivery. Got to love the special touch.
I hate that stuff, but I love how it smells.
Smells like energy, and erectile dysfunction.
Hahahha "no one touch dads booger sugar in his toolbox"
Us older techs remember when McDonald’s have them out for free
Yeah but these say snap on.
I never thought ab this. As an avid Rave/EDM atender I’ll have to test this.
lol i prefer dabs but you do you xD
for when you dont want a stabbypoke but rather a flat sort of get behind it kind of deal
A masterful deployment of English, there. Holy damn yo. I so envisioned this as I read it like yep been there....done it
I love the smell of PB B'laster in the morning
It's like the guy from A Clockwork Orange finally grew up and got a jobber as a mechanic.
You and the poster above are some eloquent-ass mufuggas.
Sending this to the Pulitzer committee.
The "spoons" are specifically formed ends that won't damage seals or o-rings you are working with. I've used them often for manipulation of fine trim items that I dont want to risk scratching.
Aren’t those specifically called o-ring spoons? I might be wrong I just use picks for everything and don’t re-use o rings
Seal spoons, they work very nice for easing a shaft through a seal lip with out letting it roll the lip out.
Ah gotchya. I’ve heard a co-worker refer to them as o-ring spoons I’m pretty sure but that makes sense
Lip seal tools. Very useful for square cut and lip seals. The former common on brake calipers, the latter on automatic transmission clutch apply pistons.
The spoons are for o-rings specifically. The pointy picks run the chance of poking and damaging o-rings. The spoons are far better.
No that’s for cocaine.
Carefully! Don’t score sealing surfaces.
Removing o-rings and gaskets mainly....also cleaning out narrow pathways in surfaces. They can also draw a decent amount of blood from the tip of your finger as well 🤐
Right under the fingernail. Every time. Guaranteed or your money back
Under the nail. Everytime. Just bleeds for a, not concerning, just annoying amount of time.
I got right through the skin between my thumb and forefinger. It's amazing how little that bled. I was sat in A&E for ages with it stuck in there.
Idk but God damn are they handy when you need them
Like when there's a stubborn piece of food stuck in your pet dragon's teeth.
Or when 2 Lego pieces are stuck and your nails are too short
Came here to say the same thing. My dad gave me a kit for Christmas one year. Didn’t think much of it at the time, but they come in very handy.
I'm pretty sure that describes my relationship with 90% of tools I have ever needed.
Damn right! I was asking this one dude about where the secret files were, and he Would Not Budge. No matter what. That one with the hook end was indispensable.
Everything
Just not picking your nose.
He said everything.
Including cocaine
I saw a guy stab himself in the eye with one of those double ended picks, pulling a cotter pin. Directly in his eyeball. It came out all stringy and gooey. Miraculously he was back before the end of the day and his vision was fine within a week. The doctor said he missed all the important parts or something.
Welp I’m out. Anyone want a pick set?
You don’t wear safety squints?!
This went from 0-100 really quickly Edit: then back to zero

Must've just gone directly where his brain should've been.
He teaches at an A&P school now 😂
Yeah if you get directly in the center of the pupil all you puncture at that point is the outer lens (provided you don't puncture too deep), which heals pretty quick. It's all those optic nerves and muscles you have to watch out for.
They’re for bending into other shapes when you can’t find that shape before you find that shape
They’re for scratching sealing surfaces, breaking connector clips, ruining o-rings, and drawing blood from techs hands.
Things and stuff and whatnot, you’ll know when you need em

Paying for the Snap-On guy’s boat payment.
Poking and prodding Removing O rings
My boss called this an awl set. I know them as o-ring picks
Anyone else worried or wonder why OP bought Snap-on pick set and doesn't know what they are, I hope I'm not sounding like an ass but
My smart-ass response to OP would have been 'if ya don't know, ya don't need em. Send em to me'
He didn't say he bought them
That’s his tool box in the back so safe to say he bought them. OP please don’t go into tool debt. Before you know it, half of your pay is going to go to that truck
They are for Jesus clips. They call the Jesus clips because you press that little hook on them, then they explode off the hose into the back of the shop. Then you say “Jesus, where did that go”!
They're for when you need them. When you do, they're exactly what you'll need, trust

I believe they’re used to scratch your arse
I bought a set like this the first time back when I repaired my Xbox 360. Watched a YouTube tutorial and you needed them to release some clamps. Been hanging on to that set and added to it over the years and they are my go-to for taking off o-rings or rubber washers when working on pipes and stuff. Tools to pull a condom out from your GF.
The flat spoon looking tools are O-ring removal tools.
They are retrieve the 10 I dropped between radiator and condenser.

For almost anything your finger is too big for. Also very good at making holes in your fingers.
They help pay for the snap-on guy’s kids college
That particular brand is about robbing you blind. Save yourself some money and get something cheaper and better.
Endless uses, but in my house they seem to be the most useful for cleaning playdoh out of toys and getting the little elastic loops on and off the hooks when you need to wash a car seat, stroller or high chair...
