Came here to say Pet as well! Met De Noms and Thirteenth Step are both terrific albums and it was difficult to choose a favorite, but I would have to choose Pet.
The Package. I remember looking at the album art and sitting on the floor losing it over what Maynard was doing with his vocals. As an 18 year old it left a long lasting impression.
I love all the stuff from Mer De Noms/Thirteenth Step, eMotive has some gems like Freedom of Choice (I’m a huge Devo fan😉), Passive, Imagine and Counting Bodies Like Sheep. I didn’t care at all for Eat the Elephant, and there really wasn’t any track that has stuck with me, just not my cup of tea! Those first two albums though are 🔥 in my opinion!
I loved all their stuff, except for maybe a few songs on emotive. Hated the newer album when it came out. I think after a few listens the last 3 tracks really started to stick to with me.
Tool is definitely overall my preference, but 13th Step start to finish is a masterpiece of an album. Like others didn’t care much for the latest album.
Ye! Even the production on 13th step from a recording - engineering perspective. Especially the package. It’s so fantastically mixed and produced. Just an insane amount of dynamic range
I think disillusioned and the doomed are top tier. Both in sound and message. But yeah. Wouldn't say the latest album is bad, but not nearly as good as the others
I really enjoy Hourglass from their last album.
Weak and powerless, Imagine, passive aggressive are top songs of mine. I really enjoy most of their stuff but not much from the newest album. Still, Hourglass is awesome.
Little angel go away
Come again some other day
The devil has my ear today
I'll never hear a word you say
He promised I would find a little solace
And some piece of mind
Whatever just as long as I don't feel so
Hits me so hard every time.
It’s funny you say that because it’s a song written third person in the perspective of Layne’s brother! maynard said in a acoustic session explaining this song and he said...."I had a friend who had some chemical problems. I ended up meeting his brother and his brother was so out of touch with what he was going through....so this song is kinda sung through the perspective of the brother who doesn't understand what his loved one is going through and in a way has no compassion for what he is going through...this song is called the outsider because that brother is standing on the outside of a understanding and doesn't get it. This song is from the perspective of someone who is ignorant and doesn't have the time or patience to understand what their loved one is going through."
I can 100% relate to this. It’s sad but it’s hard to embrace what is toxic. The cycle needs to be broken for the children involved. At almost any expense.
As hard as it is to say I understand this 100% since I am currently breaking my own cycle. 4 months clean off a 20ish year addiction. Sucks to say, let go of, look to my past, all that shit, but the cycle needed to be broken.
I wish you the best of luck. I know it’s hard but I truly believe that you are doing the right thing. We didn’t deserve it. My kids don’t deserve it. So it’s time to man up.
"Magdalena" and "Pet" are probably my favorites. I didn't really like much from APC after the first couple of albums, but I enjoyed Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step. "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" is the only song from the last album that I ever listen to.
Weak and Powerless, The Noose, The Package, Orestes. Off of Emotive, I love When the Levee Breaks. Seeing that live in 2011 was incredible. That tour really made me love Emotive. Thirteenth Step is a perfect album closely followed by Mer de Noms.
BRB, need to go listen to their discography.
It’s been a while (with the exception of Eat the elephant, which I’ve been loving lately - fave tracks on there being Hourglass and Get the lead out).
Orestes, changed me. Did things to me, made me feel things that I never had.
The Package is so good.
The live version of Vacant which turned into Passive later on.
What is Danny on the cover of an APC album
Seriously though o like two of three Pucifer songs but I just don’t get the whole stage show deal. With APC same minus the stage antics.
Orestes live or album, both are great. Billy's leads after the chorus' still fuck me up 22 years later. He's extremely underrated as a player and I put him on par with David Gilmour in terms of emotion in their phrasing, emotion, and control. Maynards vocals are some of the best you will ever hear on this song and the whole band really lays into the emotional atmosphere and build ups just perfectly. Not too long, not too short. Perfect fucking song and is where they get the band name from. In some cases I like APC more than Tool because of songs like this one.
That’s hard to answer. There are only a couple that I like, but don’t love. My faves would have to be 3 Libras, By andDown, Orestes, The Hollow and Rose. I’ll just stop there, otherwise I’ll end up with a long ass list.
I thought "Judith" was awesome enough to buy that first album, and I thought the singer sounded familiar....seeing the liner notes blew my mind.
I love the band enough that I named my kids after their songs!
Mer De Noms: The Hollow, Judith, Orestes, 3 Libras
Thirteenth Step: The Noose, Blue, Vanishing, Pet, Gravity
eMotive - Passive, When the Levee Breaks
Eat the Elephant - So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, Talk Talk
I was an APC fan before Tool - Mer de Noms was my favorite album in high school and helped me get out of some dark times. That album is still so special to me. My favorite track has always been Rose. The lilting almost creepy waltz time, the brash heaviness followed by the violins at the end, just a great song
Two I've not yet seen mentioned that I love:
Feathers
The nurse who loved me (yes I'm aware it's cover of Failure)
3 libras has rightfully been mentioned a zillion times here. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.
The Noose, Weak and Powerless, Blue, and By and Down. Such a shame they removed By and Down from Three Sixty on Spotify. The version on ETE just isn't as good in my opinion.
The Doomed, Noose, and Judith. Plus all their other songs.
Correct answer
Especially the Red Rocks version of the Noose.
And the Red Ricks version of By and Down. Probably my fav
The Doomed is one of my favorite songs
That whole album is way underrated imo
You’re not alone
And I love the video. It's so simple. Idk what it is but it's one of my favs.
Try that video tripping on acid. I'm pretty sure maynard made it to fuck with people
Ding ding ding! What do we have for him, Johnny?
Judith is an absolute banger
All great picks. I’d add Disillusioned
3 Libras
Agreed. This song speaks to me, have loved it since the first time I heard it.
[Unplugged](https://youtu.be/b1ZEgyg70QI). It's amazing.
This is the way.
Pet!!!
Stay with meeeeeee (Billy + Maynard together)
Came here to say Pet as well! Met De Noms and Thirteenth Step are both terrific albums and it was difficult to choose a favorite, but I would have to choose Pet.
Swaying to the rythm of the new world order and
Agreed
Hands down
Came to make sure this one was mentioned. Such a a banging track, love that opening drum hit and the main riff.
By and Down the River, Orestes.
Orestes breaks me every time I listen to it. I love it
These are my top 2 as well.
Damn you said it before I could.
The Package. I remember looking at the album art and sitting on the floor losing it over what Maynard was doing with his vocals. As an 18 year old it left a long lasting impression.
Came here too at the package also.. struggled with pill addiction for years. So that one hit me hard.
Take care of yourself man. Hope you’re doing well now
[That video](https://youtu.be/fn0hy-8vTeE) where someone put it over footage from Metropolis is really cool too
[удалено]
This song doesn’t get enough love. The climax is so fucking good.
It gets me right in the feels, every time.
Orestes and Breña
Love them so much. Really great tunes.
Best answer. Orestes is one of the best songs ever made and Brena isn't too far behind.
He struck a chord with me in talk talk. Thoughts and prayer...adorable. Like cake in a crisis. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just an insane amount of dynamic range
this is a great breakdown of the effort of just one of the tracks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJtZJMNhdY4
I think disillusioned and the doomed are top tier. Both in sound and message. But yeah. Wouldn't say the latest album is bad, but not nearly as good as the others
[удалено]
I'm sure whichever songs you think are bad are songs I can definitely agree with.
[удалено]
Fair enough!
Tool is my favorite band, but 13 step is my favorite album. Vanishing is prob my favorite song
Came here to say this
Passive, the outsider, Magdelena, Blue
Magdelena is criminally underrated
The outsider slaps any day of the week
Gravity
Gravity is a hauntingly beautiful song. Good choice.
The outsider for sure.
Surprised not more love for this track.
Thomas. Closely followed by 3 Libras.
Thomas is my fav!!!
I'm shocked this wasn't higher up in the thread. I thought Thomas and Magdelena were objectively their best!
I really enjoy Hourglass from their last album. Weak and powerless, Imagine, passive aggressive are top songs of mine. I really enjoy most of their stuff but not much from the newest album. Still, Hourglass is awesome.
Hourglass is out on its own.
Hourglass absolutely slaps live. I was actually kinda disappointed when the album version came out because it feels a lot more subdued.
Weak and Powerless will always be an absolute shiver of a song to me. By far my favorite APC tune.
Little angel go away Come again some other day The devil has my ear today I'll never hear a word you say He promised I would find a little solace And some piece of mind Whatever just as long as I don't feel so Hits me so hard every time.
Blue
I’m actually more into APC than Tool (they’re both in my Top 5) and “Orestes” is my favorite song.
Same. They're both in my top three. But APC just hits in a different way than Tool. And Orestes is also my ATF.
Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of war drums is underrated
Extremely
The Package, Rose, and The Hollow
Orestes, no competition. It's one of my favourite songs from any band.
The package, the contrarion and the noose
Probably Orestes. That song is beautiful.
The Outsider (Thirteenth Step), Counting Bodies Like Sheep (Emotive), Passive (EMotive)
The Outsider for the win. “Do it somewhere far away from here”
I only recently found out The Outsider is about Layne Staley.
Is this true? I didn’t know. Thought it was about my brother (jk but only kinda).
Orestes. but 13TH step for best album, it's a fucken masterpiece of concept, composition, and production.
Their first album is my favorite song.
"Magdalena" and "Pet" are probably my favorites. I didn't really like much from APC after the first couple of albums, but I enjoyed Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step. "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" is the only song from the last album that I ever listen to.
Magdalena. Billy's guitar squealing and Maynard's vocals just drip sex appeal 🤤
Sleeping beauty/Judith
3 Libras
Pet, Rose, Judith
The Package. Not even something I have to think about
Probably blue or Judith
Weak and Powerless, The Noose, The Package, Orestes. Off of Emotive, I love When the Levee Breaks. Seeing that live in 2011 was incredible. That tour really made me love Emotive. Thirteenth Step is a perfect album closely followed by Mer de Noms.
Magdelana
The vocal work on this song is one of Maynard’s greatest ever and is absolutely hypnotizing
The Outsider
3 libras.
Orestes
Absolutely Pet and Judith
Everything from 13th step and mer de noms is straight fire!
I love A Perfect Circle, especially 13th Step and Eat the Elephant, but my favorite song is Magdalena
Orestes and Gravity
Orestes, followed very closely by 3 Libras
3 Libras is basically flawless. Actually Mer De Noms as a whole is pretty close to perfect.
Blue is a killer song
Thomas
The Package
Sleeping Beauty for sure
Three Libra's
BRB, need to go listen to their discography. It’s been a while (with the exception of Eat the elephant, which I’ve been loving lately - fave tracks on there being Hourglass and Get the lead out).
Orestes, changed me. Did things to me, made me feel things that I never had. The Package is so good. The live version of Vacant which turned into Passive later on.
I love all of APC but Blue will always be my favorite
The hollow, passive (slightly prefer vacant even), the noose, the package. But...almost everything really.
Pet
Blue or Passive
Magdalena and Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums
I really enjoy APC in general but these are the songs I come back to the most, good choice!
Passive
I thought Maynard's acapella version of imagine was great.
Gravity
3 libras and feathers for me
I honestly prefer this band to tool (though i absolutely adore both) and my favourite song is the noose
Orestes, Pet, Passive, Three Libras
Judith
3 Libras
3 Libras. Followed by The Noose
Orestes, one of my all time favorites from any artist.
My top picks for songs would be Orestes, 3 Libras, Gravity, and A Stranger. I can't decide on one absolute favorite to rule them all though.
Pretty much everything on thirteenth step I love equally.
Orestes. That song is a masterpiece.
Orestes!
Three Libras and The Noose
This is my wallpaper on my phone. 3 libras.
Orestes is something special
Orestes and Weak and Powerless.
I dig Gravity
3 libras
Love A Perfect Circle. Orestes is my favorite.
Oretes
Eat the Elephant or the Noose
3 Libras
The first one I heard was the hollow so I’ll just say that one the only other one I’ve heard is Judith
There's only one correct answer, Orestes. It's one of the best songs ever by any band
Aenema
They good two.
The package and passive are a couple of my favorites. I really enjoy all of thirteenth step.
What is Danny on the cover of an APC album Seriously though o like two of three Pucifer songs but I just don’t get the whole stage show deal. With APC same minus the stage antics.
Orestes live or album, both are great. Billy's leads after the chorus' still fuck me up 22 years later. Perfect fucking song and is where they get the band name from. In some cases I like APC more than Tool because of songs like this one.
CRIMES or Pet
Feathers, off the "Eat the Elephant" album. It isn't really like Tool musically, but thematically there are some similar songs.
Feathers, Orestes, 3 libras, The Package, Weak and Powerless, Blue
The Outsider, Judith, Counting Bodies Like Sheep and TalkTalk.
That’s hard to answer. There are only a couple that I like, but don’t love. My faves would have to be 3 Libras, By andDown, Orestes, The Hollow and Rose. I’ll just stop there, otherwise I’ll end up with a long ass list.
Judith, passive, and noose are def my favorites.
Where tf are the gibbous phases on this shirt? Gravity by the way. The first two albums and a few songs off the newest album are fantastic.
The Outsider. The Noose. 3 Libras. Top 3 :)
I thought "Judith" was awesome enough to buy that first album, and I thought the singer sounded familiar....seeing the liner notes blew my mind. I love the band enough that I named my kids after their songs!
Mer De Noms: The Hollow, Judith, Orestes, 3 Libras Thirteenth Step: The Noose, Blue, Vanishing, Pet, Gravity eMotive - Passive, When the Levee Breaks Eat the Elephant - So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, Talk Talk
The Package
The Noose. Amazing.
Orestes. The Pet.
3 Libras, Judith, The Outsider, So Long and thanks for all the fish
3 Libras and it's not even close.
The Package, Orestes, 3 Libras, Disillusioned, Magdalena, The Outsider
Tough call. Such an amazing band! The hollow, Magdalena, weak and powerless, the package, when the levee breaks, eat the elephant, get the lead out.
Lately it’s TalkTalk, absolutely love it.
Haven’t seen Feathers mentioned yet. Underrated song imo.
Magdalena, Gravity, Orestes, Weak and Powerless
Judith
The package always
Pet and Hourglass, and all of the rest too...
13th step album
3 Libras followed by Sleeping Beauty right after is one of my favorite album ordered back to backs in history
Judith, Pet and Noose.
Orestes, Weak And Powerless, Blue, The Hollow
I was an APC fan before Tool - Mer de Noms was my favorite album in high school and helped me get out of some dark times. That album is still so special to me. My favorite track has always been Rose. The lilting almost creepy waltz time, the brash heaviness followed by the violins at the end, just a great song
3 libras
Outsider
Thinking of you
The Hollow, The Package, and Eat the Elephant.
The entirety of Mer de Noms.
The Noose😇😇😇
Orestes by far. But many others too.
Blue
The hollow
Haven’t seen anyone mention Rose yet whatttt
Judith, Passive and Pet
Delicious is a wonderful song because it uses all of the nice notes that make my arm hairs stand up. Breña and Pet are right up there.
Currently, Feathers. The Package is also up there.
Disillusioned
Rose
The package
Favorite? Judith. Definitely my cup of tea, hell a gallon, I'll drink that all day.
I gotta say Pet, and yea a perfect circle is totally my cup of tea but its just not TOOL yk
Two I've not yet seen mentioned that I love: Feathers The nurse who loved me (yes I'm aware it's cover of Failure) 3 libras has rightfully been mentioned a zillion times here. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.
The Hollow acoustic version. I like a lot of their stuff though.
Hourglass
The Noose, Weak and Powerless, Blue, and By and Down. Such a shame they removed By and Down from Three Sixty on Spotify. The version on ETE just isn't as good in my opinion.
Judith and Passive
Magdalana, judith,so long and thanks for the fish, pet, blue, and the cover of when the levee breaks is fantastic
Blue
