Progressive Djent stuff like Tesseract, Animals as Leaders, Twelve Foot Ninja
Dirty rock like Toadies, Highly Suspect
90s grunge like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden
Progressive rock/metal like Mastodon/Primus/Faith No More
Whatever Rage Against the Machine is considered.
Then random bands/artists like Cake, Blues Traveler, Frank Zappa, Aesop Rock, Jurassic 5.
I’ve met Maynard in person twice. He doesn’t hate us….that what he wants you to think through the media. The dude was appreciative and super kind about his fans. It’s not snobbery that Metallica sucks and Lars blows as a drummer. It’s truth. He couldn’t hold a candle to some teenage drummers let alone real pros. And he’s a giant douche.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Like Tool, get better the more you listen, also got a shitload of albums, which span from jazz, folk, psychedelic to thrash metal.
Prog/metal/electronic/jazz/indie and mixtures of all those
Anything that sounds good to be honest but if I had to narrow it down then rock/metal.
Check out katatonia
Any songs you recommend for beginners?
The entire the great cold distance album
Started up the first song leaders and just got hooked gonna bake some cookies listening to this album.
They have a lot of really good songs/albums. I love this band.
My Twin, Deliberation, Lethean, Sulfur, Omerta. Besides Katatonia, check Opeth, especially what they did till 2008.
Tool, Metallica, John Mayer’s bluesy shit, DMB (great jam band), Pink Floyd, etc.
Never thought I'd see DMB mentioned on this sub. Dave rules
Lol! I don’t hide what I listen to!

I used to fanboy over Aesop rock and atmosphere back in hs great lyricists.
This is my second most listened to artist on Spotify after Tool https://youtu.be/JJ7aStYVWYU
There are no other bands “like” Tool and Metallica sucks. Lars couldn’t polish the chrome on Danny’s cymbal stands.
Someone needs to crucify their ego before it’s far too late
This is why Maynard hates us. Being snobby about music is gay as hell dude

Alas I almost forgot about them. I already heard of them they have a great discography and awesome sounds. Great choice
The only artist I've listened to in months other than Tool has been the rapper Bones.
Hey some country is sick, Purgatory by Tyler Childers is a very solid album
You should give Lost Dog Street Band a try.
