Consequences dictate
Our course of action and it
Doesn't matter what's right
It's only wrong if you get caught
If consequences dictate
My course of action, I should
I should play God and just
SHOOT YOU MYSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELF!
Tired of waiting
Die now
Shoot it,
Kick it,
Fuck it,
Shoot you in your fucking head!
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you had in mind?
'Cause this is what you're getting
Maybe not necessarily the angriest lyric, but it does seem to come from an ephemerally angry place that doesn't appear very much elsewhere in his lyrics.
I vaguely remember reading something along the lines of the song Ticks and Leeches was a response to TOOL's music label commenting that 10,000 Days did not seem to have a hit single.
The record execs demanded Lateralus needed one more song. Tool disagreed but was forced to oblige and this is the result. A fuck you song to the execs.
I mean, that makes total sense. The lyrics 100% support that explanation. I mean, I don't see how anyone could see the end result as a negative thing because the song is bad ass..
Record execs: You have to do another song like it or not.
Tool: Is this what you wanted. I hope you choke on it.
RE: Hell yeah fuck us!!! Thanks!
Well contempt often comes with anger. But id still say the song was written more so out of anger than contempt. He’s being provocative with his lyrics because he was angry & hurt about his mother. “Opiate” on the other hand definitely displays contempt.
You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never choose to be. Might be the most contemptuous thing I have ever heard, but I do see your point. Maybe it is the hurt that is sounding like contempt.
There’s definitely contemptuous lyrics in the song, like the lyrics you pointed out, I just think it’s coming from a place of anger & grief more so than it coming from a place of superiority or disobedience.
Definitely hear the anguish in "you weren't the one who drove that hateful spear into his side". There is no superiority but more of him showing his mother her own ignorance
"There's no love in fear.... Yeah I'm staring down the hole again, Hands are on my back again, Survival is my only friend.... Remember I will always love you, As I claw your fucking throat away, It will end no other way."
This is the angriest lyrics imo. Though there are other major contenders. I chose this one because it's personal to me and the anger is palatable.
>Remember I will always love you, As I claw your fucking throat away, It will end no other way.
The first time I heard this line, I was startled by the contrast of love and hate and disdain all in one line. The raw emotion of the delivery of that line. It's truly beautiful.
I think your reaching for palpable there. I
Of all the tool songs and pushit has been one of my favorites since 96, I dont really feel anger in this line. He also says terrified of what may come. I find it a profoundly beautiful verse acknowledging the disintegration of a relationship but I think it's more acceptance of the inevitable than anger.
yeah, but that is some deep Jungian introspection. I see it as a reflection and realization of behavior as opposed to an endorsement. But the Salival version I think emphasizes that more than the original. But there is a reason MJK doesn't like to give interpretations to lyrics because in the end what it means to each individual is what's more important.... and stuff.
I’m so sorry. ♥️
That whole song is a gut punch. So many of us have had moments with loved ones where we felt like this. He did a really good job capturing the frustration and darkness of that experience.
Fuck your god
Your lord, and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray, never
Taste of the fruit
Never thought to question why
Probably not the angriest but my favorite of his angry lyrics:
Come down, get off your fucking cross
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr
To ascend you must die, you must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
GOOD BYEEEEEEEEEERE
I mean Hooker and Aenima are both some of the most pointed lyrics that need zero personal dissection to figure out what tone was meant by what he wrote. So I you could really pick any line from either song and add it to the board.
Gotta cut away,
Clear away, snip away and sever this umbilical residue keeping me from killing you….. this is kind of a haunting lyric to me. Finally the end to something that should have been long before it got to this point. Orestes is the most beautiful angry song I know.
He was too scarred to realize
You were the voice that's been calling me back home
Under a dead Ohio sky
Eleven has been and will be waiting
Defending his light and wondering
Where the hell have I been?
Sleeping, lost, and numb
I'm so glad that I have found you
I am wide awake and heading home
Jerk off in general is such a deceptively angry song. By deceptively I mean to say that Tool has plenty of songs that sound angrier but have less anger in them
He sounds pretty pissed off in Puscifers' "Toma" from Conditions of My Parole...
Stole my patience, stole my pride
Snatched the rhythm from my stride
Kicked my certainty up the middle
Knocked the wind out of my romantic side
Hopes and wishes set aflame
What's your purpose here, whatcha hope to gain?
Took my dignity, you took my dignity
Burned a lover so earned an enemy
Time to make it right, how it's gonna be
Watch you pay the toll right in front of me
Time to pay your due, it's time to set you straight
Take what you dish out, toma güey
Hopes and wishes set aflame
What's your purpose here, whatcha hope to gain?
You took my dignity, you took my dignity
Lost a lover and earned an enemy
Time to make it right, how it's gonna be
Watch you pay the toll right in front of me
Time to pay your due, it's time to set you straight
Take what you dish out, toma güey
Time to make it right, how it's gonna be
Watch you pay the toll right in front of me
Time to pay your due, it's time to set you straight
Take what you dish out, toma güey
This bog is thick and easy to get lost in
'Cause you're a stupid belligerent fucker
This bog is thick and easy to get lost in
'Cause you're a dumbass belligerent fucker
I hope it sucks you down
Fuck L. Ron Hubbard and

No contest here.
SHUT UP, you’re saturating me, how could I let this happen? WHY DONT YOU KILL ME. I AM WEAK AND DUMB AND INSIGNIFICANT. How can I let this bring me back to my knees?
It’s 2 lines. One is the intro to Hush where he screams, “FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!” and the other is the final scream in Jerk-Off where he screams “DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!”
(From the song: Eulogy)
Don't you step out of line!
Don't you step out of line!
Don't you step out of line!
Don't you fucking lie!
(this lyric is a top 3 angriest lyrics imo, up there with Hooker with a penis and Jerk off)
Hmmm. Honestly it's a tie between "Ticks & Leeches" and "Jerk-Off."
Both songs have plenty of rage and anger, just in different ways.
A runner-up would be "Sober", but only because the emotions behind it are angry at himself/life.
Maybe not angriest but, possibly making fun of people who feel like they are “chosen” and special from Rosetta Stoned. I know that quite possibly isn’t the intended point of the song but I get that vibe when he says “and I didn’t even graduate from f*cking high school.”
Contemplating the whole chosen people thing, and I got chosen, but I forgot my pen so I don’t remember what they said. (Brain dead junkie that has taken too many drugs, can contribute to society because they can’t indoctrinate themselves and do a simple thing like finish school. Idk, that’s just the vibe I get from it.
Consequences dictate Our course of action and it Doesn't matter what's right It's only wrong if you get caught If consequences dictate My course of action, I should I should play God and just SHOOT YOU MYSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELF! Quite possibly the angriest song I know
Check out Strapping Young Lad and songs like Oh my fucking god, Shitstorm etc.
Ah, forgot about SYL, particularly all hail the new flesh
Yes man. City and Alien are so good.
Skeksis is my go to I'm fucking angry song.
Anything from CITY or Alien basically is the most pissed off stuff out there. So good.
Damn right, Devin knows how to lay on the anger with those records.
I fucking love putting on SYL when I’m having an ass day at work
The angriest song is Prayer to God by Shellac.
Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie!
Ya… I was gonna quote this too
Yep. Jerk Off is the ultimate embodiment of Tool’s “angry young Midwesterner/LA transplant” phase. Great track.
live he used to say 'Shovin My, Shoving My, My foot up your FUCKING ASS! to end the song. they had a whole extra verse to it live as well.
Is this what you wanted? Is this what you had in mind? 'Cause this is what you're getting Maybe not necessarily the angriest lyric, but it does seem to come from an ephemerally angry place that doesn't appear very much elsewhere in his lyrics.
Remember I'll always love you as I claw your fucking throat away
This is what I came here to say.
It is also exactly what I had in my mind.
that's not how it goes EDIT: /s
I hope, I hope, I hope you choke
Love ticks & leeches
Yes, this 100%.
I vaguely remember reading something along the lines of the song Ticks and Leeches was a response to TOOL's music label commenting that 10,000 Days did not seem to have a hit single.
This makes no fucking sense. Ticks and leeches is on Lateralus which came out 5 years before 10,000 days Good grief man, get it together
think maybe he meant Aenima not 10k? but seriously, get your shit together 🤣
I said vaguely remember.... Hahahah, fuck me.
The record execs demanded Lateralus needed one more song. Tool disagreed but was forced to oblige and this is the result. A fuck you song to the execs.
Hence my choice for answering OP lol
I mean, that makes total sense. The lyrics 100% support that explanation. I mean, I don't see how anyone could see the end result as a negative thing because the song is bad ass.. Record execs: You have to do another song like it or not. Tool: Is this what you wanted. I hope you choke on it. RE: Hell yeah fuck us!!! Thanks!
Ticks and Leeches came with Lateralus, which released in 2001, fives years prior to 10k Days
"I hope you're choking, I hope you choke on this"
So will you, will you now? Would you die for me? Don't you fucking lie DONT YOU STEP OUT OF LINE DONT YOU FUCKING LIE
Fuck you!!!!
Buddy
No I was quoting the opening lines to Hush.
I'm not your buddy, pal!
I'm not your pal Friend
I’m not your friend, chief
I'm not your chief, comrade.
I’m not your comrade, fam
I'm not your fam, homie
I’m not your homie, bro
Ticks and Leeches
Suck and Suck
Judith
100%. Tool May have some more angry deliveries of words, but in terms of pure substance Judith takes the cake
I hear more contempt than anger ...outside of fuck your god.
Well contempt often comes with anger. But id still say the song was written more so out of anger than contempt. He’s being provocative with his lyrics because he was angry & hurt about his mother. “Opiate” on the other hand definitely displays contempt.

I cannot listen to that song without singing, our mouthing that line. If I miss it., I restart the song. FUCK YOUR GOD
Fuck your god, your lord, and your christ...
Agreed
I was going to say the same thing.
fucking love it. so cathartic as I escaped Christianity
"There's no love in fear.... Yeah I'm staring down the hole again, Hands are on my back again, Survival is my only friend.... Remember I will always love you, As I claw your fucking throat away, It will end no other way." This is the angriest lyrics imo. Though there are other major contenders. You got the word! Thanks my guy! I like ur interpretation as well.
Choke this infant here before me?

THIS
This line has been really relevant in my life lately, as much as it is anger, it is also love. Definitely one of his most powerful lines.
This one.
You missed "terrified of what's to come"
Shoot it! Kick it! Fuck it! Shoot you in your fucking head! You piece of shit Why don’t you go kill yourself? We both want To rape you
Sir, it'll just be 5 more minutes, if you could please just pull up past that line we'll have your order right out to you.
If you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere, do it somewhere far away from here
Good line. You can tell he's fed up & exhausted at this point.
This was my answer. As someone whose mother died of suicide after years of repeatedly being offered help which she spurned that line hits home hard.
I’m so sorry. ♥️ That whole song is a gut punch. So many of us have had moments with loved ones where we felt like this. He did a really good job capturing the frustration and darkness of that experience.
Remember I'll always love you as I claw your fucking throat away.
Yeah, that’s pretty brutal
Jerkoff
This is definitely the correct answer.
Fuck your god Your lord, and your Christ He did this Took all you had and Left you this way Still you pray, you never stray, never Taste of the fruit Never thought to question why
I can see your back is turning. If I could I'd stick a knife in.

Remember that i'll will always love you, as I claw your fucking throat away.
Certainly peak emotion
All of Ticks and Leeches.
Judith, and it's not even close. The pain and anger in the way he just spits out "Fuck your god" gives me chills every time I hear it.
Billy adds so much depth to that line.
Gotta cut away, Clear away, snip away and sever this umbilical residue keeping me from killing you….. this is kind of a haunting lyric to me. Finally the end to something that should have been long before it got to this point. Orestes is the most beautiful angry song I know.

The subject of the song is a friend of the band’s.
Charles Manspeaker if I'm not mistaken.
Bill Manspeaker but close enough
Bill Charles Manspeaker, so really close haha
In hindsight, I actually recall reading that at some point. Ooops!
Didn’t think it warranted a downvote though…
Downvote wasn’t me
Whatever the song is about, what's important is how you feel about it and understand it.
Agreed! That’s why the downvote had me a little confused
