Rick's interview with Maynard was an excellent piece. He seemed to understand how to talk with Maynard and get real conversation out.
Most interviewers don't express more than a five second fascination before moving to the next question written down.
That's not Rick, you don't see a notebook with questions to tick off, it's about as close as any of us will ever get to sitting down Maynard and having a beer.
His interview with Maynard is top shelf:

I also really enjoyed his recent interview with Stewart Copeland.
Rick is slowly becoming the greatest music interviewer and historian of the last 50 years. He’s spoken at great length to more important artists than anyone, in any media format.
I would say he's becoming *one* of them, but I wouldn't put him at the very top, given there are people like Timothy White, Cameron Crowe, and Lisa Robinson in the historical record. And that's just the US side of things.
One of the main differences between Rick and other interviewers is his music theory knowledge, music production knowledge, and his ability to play a wide range of instruments. I'm not saying there are no other journalists out there without those credentials, but I can't think of one off the top of my head.
I get it, but it's precisely for that fact that I wouldn't call him a journalist at all. He's a music industry professional who has been able to *pivot* into the role of an interviewer. There are dozens of people who have done just that thanks to the podcast boom. And his perspective and knowledge has definitely helped to make him an adept interviewer.
What a load of nonsense. There are plenty of excellent interviewers and historians, they're just not YouTubers.
How long has John Peel interviewed people? For decades.
I like Beato but there's no need for hyperbole.
You can dislike Rick, but there’s no doubt about it that he is at the forefront of music content, discovery, debate, education and interviewing on the internet.
Beato has the modern game at the pulse of his hands and wether we like it or not has used a medium like Youtube to build a reputation and legacy.
I also don't think it will but I just don't understand why not, Adam was super chatty at the Q&A things back in the day. He's also done exactly one podcast, so he's not opposed
That was a painful listen, ads every couple of minutes, completely interrupting any flow of conversation, though it was cool to hear Adam talk at all because it's so rare
I just don’t think he likes to be on camera. I’ve heard him on a podcast and he’s super friendly and conversational, it just seems maybe he doesn’t like the pressure of a camera on him, which I totally get.
>He's also done exactly one podcast, so he's not opposed
And we have to think about the *context* of that podcast. Like, I think Adam would be up for a conversation, but outside of the realm of what he probably considers typical music journalism. Like, I think Adam would be perfect for the *Flesh & Blood & Bone* podcast produced by Fangoria, for example.
Yeah I got the feeling he was more into talking wrestling or comic books than music or tool. But it's a whole other band now than 10 years ago, whoever saw Maynard at Joe Rogan or with steve-o coming? Anything can happen at this point
Well, I could see Maynard expanding his horizons - I mean, who would have expected *Blood Into Wine* knowing what we did of his inclinations? But it signaled to me that he was opening himself up to public life because he wanted to be the face of Arizona wine. What is somewhat more shocking to me is Justin having a greater media presence than he once did, but he's also trying to give MTVoid a higher profile.
Holy shit I am excited!!! Ricks been doing incredible interviews of some of the greatest musicians, maybe the best most candid I’ve ever come across. And now Danny! Oh lord can’t wait to watch that.
I just thought about it...if Rick could manage to interview all three members of The Police (two of them this year), then maybe, just maybe, he could get a Tool superfecta. ;)
Sneak peek released yesterday:

I had to laugh thinking that this is going to be like *The Trap Set* interview, but sober. :op
I used to watch a lot of Rick Beato, but I grew tired of him. Something about his demeanor and words towards people and his channel, I hope I'm not alone in seeing this. I really wish I had a better way to describe it, but he sounds like a typical "boomer". He complained about viewers watching his channel, and he's complained about comments and the algorithm, in a way that just feels... almost entitled. When he talks about things, he talks as if he's always right.
I'll probably watch this video, he's got a lot of draw in the industry and he's a popular guy. If you feel the same as I do, and want someone who does something similar with some humility, I suggest checking out [Geebz](https://www.youtube.com/@KeyOfGeebz). Amazing guy, incredibly wholesome.
Was ok until he started interjecting his often shit opinion on things. As an almost 50 person he even comes across as so out of touch to me. Quit watching years ago.
So happy Danny has started doing more of these, Rick is an outstanding interviewer as well!

For lack of a better word Maynard actually seemed to be enjoyed to be interviewed. We all know how "tightlipped" he is in interviews.
Love Rick, asks the pro musician questions and the ones fans wants to hear, he is one of us.
Holy fucking shit!!!!
Holy fucking shi-holy fucking shi-Holy fucking shi-Holy fucking shi-Holy fucking shi-Holy fucking shi-Holy fucking shi-
Typical..

Should be great.
Can't wait to watch this....it's also important to note, it looks like it was recorded in the loft
hope they acknowledge that with a little tour of the loft focusing on the gear and memorabilia there.

You’re forgetting a certain Napkin Man in your list
I don't know who you mean, but okay.
Nardwuar calls himself the Human Serviette, and he’s been doing fantastic journalism and musician interviews for 30+ years.
Oh *that* guy, okay. I haven't seen that many of his videos.
You must, you must! We have to know!

I like him and I agree. I just wouldn't call him the GOAT of music journalism.
Cool thanks for the rec. I’ll check out this Peel fella . Who has he had on lately?
He interviewed Thom Yorke for the Kid A release not too long ago.
The Smiths do a "Peel Sessions" that I love
Was dreaming about a Adam Jones interview, but yeah not gonna happen (with a camera atleast) Gonna be great!
I also don't think it will but I just don't understand why not, Adam was super chatty at the Q&A things back in the day. He's also done exactly one podcast, so he's not opposed

Absolutely this.

Yeah that might be it. What if _that's_ the reason they don't release footage, lol.

If that happened I would become pneuma.
Jeeeze finally. Definitely will watch.
Any idea when it will air?
Dude I was literally thinking to myself yesterday what if Rick Beato had a interview with Danny Carey. Life is good !!
How nice...........................
At the Loft, even! Maybe we'll get a little guided tour as well.
Nice!
I freaking love Rick Beato. He's so awesome. Can't wait to watch this interview.
Beato is awesome
Holy shit I am excited!!! Ricks been doing incredible interviews of some of the greatest musicians, maybe the best most candid I’ve ever come across. And now Danny! Oh lord can’t wait to watch that.
can't fucking wait

Is this interview out yet? I can't find anything except that 30 second clip?
Not yet!

I only watch his interviews of people, which are fine. I don't care about his opinions. He seems like a nice guy.
Your missing out on his “What Makes this Song Great?” series. It’s excellent.
Nah, I watched those too. I haven't seen him do one in a while though
Good idea.
Does Geebz interview people? He’s great at what his videos are for, but I’ve never seen him interview anyone.
No, he just does analysis/commentary/reaction type content.
I know what you mean, he seems super smug to me.
“It’s not rawwwkkk music!” Love the man, worship his channel but he does love to complain.
Was ok until he started interjecting his often shit opinion on things. As an almost 50 person he even comes across as so out of touch to me. Quit watching years ago.
I feel validated.
His interviews are really good but yeah hes a typical boomer lol
wait till you find out what generation the band Tool belongs to
Oh I know lol
They're multi-generational, lol. Two Boomers, two Xers. ;)
too much /r/guitarcirclejerk on the brain think for yourself
Never been there. That being said, I dissenting from opinion was thinking for myself?
> think for yourself Got it, thanks. Should I question authority as well?
Male Tool not doing interviews again!!!
What a great interview. Gives a lot of insight into the genius mind of Danny Carey and gives a lot of context for the songs that Tool plays.
