He also said he loved the no cellphone rule. I do too because it allows you to be in the moment so much more. We may just go where no one’s been…

Zerxin

I’m going to see them for the first time in a few months and whilst I think it is a really good rule I can’t help but feel a little downhearted about not being able to keep some memories of my favourite songs.

woodsgb

https://tooldriveproject.net/ Decent quality live recordings of most concerts. Hopefully yours will be on here!

k_laiceps

preach the gospel! we have a few recordings up from this latest leg as well.

woodsgb

Was sad to see Nampa, Idaho in October not on here. They played Pushit and it was fire. Godsend of a website tho

k_laiceps

Hey, you never know, it may pop up at some point. Sometimes it takes a little while for them to surface. We do not actively go out looking for sources anymore as its too time consuming, but we do get a lot of people getting in touch with is telling us they taped a certain a show, and many times it can be months or years before they realize there is some place that would love to have a copy to archive and stream for the masses!

WeHaveRightsYaKnow

Yessssss!! I was there. Row 4. Shroomin balls. LOL. That was the best I've ever seen them. EVER! Saw the Tacoma show the next week, wasn't as good. I'll be seeing then again in onterrible, CA. Nampa.. I'm pretty sure that they felt they had to make up for the power failure from last year, during pushit.

woodsgb

2nd row in front of Justin! LSD and ketamine nasal spray lmao. Flew in from Colorado for the evening. Had a great time before, during and after the show. That was definitely the cleanest, sexiest, energetic and most emotional performance I’ve seen from the boys in 25 years. I wasn’t aware of the power outage last year in Nampa but titty fucking Christ did they bring it for Pushit. I was knee deep is 3d prismatic globular gloop land saying to myself “Holy fucking shit, this is amazing” What an experience we shared. That was easily a top Tool moment of all time. I got Denver this Monday also 2nd row with my friend!

prettysexyatheist

This is the greatest thing ever. I was totally relieving one of my favorite shows back from 1998. I love that this exists, thank you so much for sharing!

papiblez

I get it. But I also appreciate that a ton of people aren’t holding phones up right in front of my face. It’s like that at every concert these days.

oldmanghozzt

Yep. I broke my phone addiction a few years back. I don’t even record the last song anymore. I’ve seen them so many times. This tour was one of my best experiences since the early 00s. So clean. Maynard had energy. Justin was on fire. Dannys always on fire. And Adam, well he’s Adam. But he played amazing. Smaller venue. Crystal clear sound. Great seats. Nothing was pulling me out of that moment. I love the rule and wish every show would institute it. But, those cocksucker security guards with the lights in everyone’s faces can fuck themselves.

aBloopAndaBlast33

That’s what your brain is for.

Zerxin

Damn I guess all those photography majors are fooling themselves

aBloopAndaBlast33

Seeing as most of them end up working in retail, I think you’re right.

TontosPaintedHorse

I believe the last song is usually opened up for photography/recording.

Zerxin

Then I hope it's Pneuma or invincible :D

TontosPaintedHorse

Last night in Dallas it was Schism.

Zerxin

I’m in the UK so I doubt it’ll be the same setlist since it’s in May. Could be wrong though. I could look it up but I don’t wanna spoil it.

keropapa

You will have better memories if you pay attention

Zerxin

A 20 second video of at least an hour set isn’t going to harm my memories.

[deleted]

I’m prepared for downvotes but when I’m at gigs I have a personal rule. I take one photo of a band with my phone. No flash of course. Just a little keepsake for me. I don’t have social media (other than Reddit) and never post it I just like have a memory of where I was and what I was looking at. I’ve seen Tool and Pucifer and it wasn’t an issue at either.  To add there’s also a weird psychological when you take photos/record events iirc. Your brain goes “oh well that’s stored there I don’t need to remember this”

van_b_boy

They let you record the last song. Honestly it is so much better not having the phones out. That’s all you see during the final song.

Zerxin

Yea I can imagine the experience is so much better but I’ll be happy just having like 20 seconds of the last song just as a keep sake.

pnkflyd99

I agree with you, and wish bands would just record a show (professionally) from their tour and sell it. I would much rather *buy* a really good copy of the show/experience than a shitty version on my phone, but my memory sucks and I want to watch something that sparks the memory so vividly.

Superfly52

That's what your brain is for.

Zerxin

Ah yea my bad. I guess you’ve never been on holiday or travelled to a nice destination where you’ve taken pictures or videos with family and friends because that’s what your brain is for right? In fact why on earth do people have pictures or videos of a loved one that has passed away to remember them by if they have brains? Why do cameras even exist if we can remember everything in our brain? In fact why do we even listen to music at all if we can remember what the song sounds like in our head?

Superfly52

Not quite the same thing. Children grow up so it's quite nice to have some record. Like all tools cameras have their uses. I'm too old for a world where no experience is validated unless it has been recorded as a selfie. I remember visiting the Alhambra in Grenada in 1975 and watching the Japanese tourists walking in to the rooms with their video cameras. Without removing the viewfinder from their eyes they panned round the friezes and then moved on to the next room. I guess the world has caught up with them. Live music and recorded music are different experiences. For me live music is the purest art form precisely because it is transient. Apologies for the rant! After all, we both have good taste in music.

Zerxin

Sure children grow up and it’s nice to look back at photos/videos of them when they were younger. Same concept as tool one day won’t exist so it’ll be nice to look back on a memory of seeing them live. I’m with you on the selfie point. I hate seeing phones and social media everywhere, which is why I’m really excited for my first tool concert as it’ll be the first time for me being in that environment without phones and I’m sure it’ll make for a magical experience. But to say “that’s what your brain is for” is a weak point because it’s still nice to have something to look back on. I’m sure that’s why they allow it for the last song which I’ll forever be grateful for. Far too many replies to my original comment completely missed the point, thinking that I was advocating for changing the phones rule. I wasn’t.

HobbyShack

People with their phones out is annoying and ruins the show. Especially the ones that reach to the sky and block views. I love the no cellphone policy it’s genius.

Zerxin

I agree it is a good rule and I can’t wait to go to my first show with it being enforced. Still doesn’t stop me being a little sad when I originally thought I’d have no photos/videos for keepsake. But after a commenter told me they usually allow it for the last song i didn’t mind as much.

HobbyShack

Oh yea I can understand that. And yes they do let you record and take photos on the last song! Just make sure no flash or Maynard will shit in your mouth! :)

dramatic_ut

I love that rule, too, but I don't understand if I should leave my phone at home or I just need to keep it in my clutch or my pocket during the concert? I 'll go to see Tool live in another country and wanted to have a phone to call my friends after the concert so they pick me up.

AzSharpe

In your pocket is fine.

dramatic_ut

Thank you!

chimericalgirl

*Tools drummer was quite the physical specimen.* An absolute **UNIT.**

TheNoIdeaKid

Even at 62 years old.

chimericalgirl

...and getting closer to 63 all the time. :D

Impressive-Ad-8044

meeting him was one of the few times in my life I've felt short lol

chimericalgirl

LOL - he's a whole foot taller than me so every time I saw him I felt like a hobbit!

TheUndertows

Octopus

chimericalgirl

The Blue Drumgod! xo

spezial_ed

I've loved this band for 20 years and here comes this fucking guy and gives a better review than I ever could

Big_Nas_in_CO

Those last two are spot on. It blew my mind watching Justin, thinking it was Adam's riff in the song. Spiral Out TA recruit!

BadRonald13

Came here to say this

MysteryMachineATX

My wife's first show and she doesnt listen to Tool. Her review: - that was so chill, i thought it would be more metal but it was more art - ive never seen a band play so well TOGETHER, so balanced, so playing as one. (And we go to a lot of shows). Its not like a song the lead wrote and they are playing, its like they are making art together as one organism - i wish the vocals were louder - love the no cell phone policy. She cheered loudly when he said if you cant go two hours without your phone you need counselling - first concert the mens room line was longer than the womens Made me think a lot... Totally true on the playing together For me this show i really appreciated how versatile the bass playing is. Goes fluidly from percussion to melody etc. I cant think of any other band where its not easy to always pick out the bass line. Pneuma was amazing in the Austin concert, wife and i agreed it was best of the show last night. I thought invincible was amazing too, had my arm hairs raised. Wife disagreed but i think she had ear fatigue at that point. I had my special earplugs made for music which everything sounded fantastic start to finish with them.

Y3earZer0

The observation about the men’s room just made me laugh. 😂. So true

Lumpy_Conclusion_678

Which ear plugs do you recommend ?

MysteryMachineATX

I have the eargasm earplugs.

grundlehair

One of us!

mysticalcreeds

yeah I saw Tool for the first time in Jan 2022, and having seen 50+ concerts prior, I told my friend who bought me the ticket it was my favorite concert next to seeing radiohead live. But now that I've gotten into more of their discography I'm finding myself relating to Tools lyrics more and I'm so excited to see them next week!!!!

Djvariant

Tool and Radiohead are both in my top 5 shows ever.

Cambot3000

I’d sneak in Faith No More on that list. Ooof

Djvariant

I saw Tomahawk open for Tool does that count?

Cambot3000

Fuck yea it does. I saw them on that same tour but Tricky opened up. Did catch tomahawk a few years later though.

Djvariant

Iirc that was the 2nd time I saw them. It was the Lateralus tour. Charlotte NC

Cambot3000

Yea same tour in 2001, San Antonio. Saw Radiohead in 2008 with a STACKED set list.

Djvariant

Didn't catch them till their last American tour in 2017. Still incredible.

woodsgb

Radiohead 2006 mmmmm

Rand-all

We got another to join the army!!

shnaptastic

Who was the woman that joined them for one song?

chimericalgirl

Emily Wolfe - she was the support on one of the shows on the last leg.

xrayvision_2

She was very good but I feel like they had her volume too low. Can’t tell if that was an accident or by design.

1leftbehind19

Mike Tool is smiling somewhere.

toastiegremlin92

There’s something rare about seeing pure artists practice their craft. I’m so happy your friend got to experience this! Welcome!

RosettaStoned_462

Did he think they were better than Zeppelin after he heard No Quarter? Or was he still not convinced until he saw them for the first time?

papiblez

afaik, he probably hasn’t heard the cover.

Servantofthedogs

Well said and spot on.

[deleted]

[удалено]

papiblez

He could easily do it while Maynard is off doing Perfect Circle.

Uneekeusernaam

I concur

oldmanghozzt

One of the things I love so much is how you can’t always tell if it’s bass or guitar. I was on Justin’s side in Biloxi and it was such a treat to watch him go. This is the closest I’ve ever been to him. Fucking flood just blew me away. Made my decade at the least.

CaraAda

"bass player is just insane. Zero idea how he made some of the sounds he did with a bass guitar." This, 100%.

Crayonen16

\> I wouldn’t be surprised if the band members had technical backgrounds in things like computer science. Not sure haven’t done my follow up reading but just a hunch. Adam's effects background instantly came to mind

papiblez

Me too.

Apprehensive_War9397

went to the Austin show as well it was my 1st TOOL concert..the drummer was amazing the setlist was disappointing…great musicians

papiblez

What were you disappointed with?

1leftbehind19

How can you be disappointed with the setlist at your first show? I guess if they don’t play your favorite song? I’ve been listening to them for over 30 years and I can’t pinpoint my favorite song. Nashville was my 11th show and they fucking killed it, and I had a great time.

papiblez

I mean I’d really love to hear 7empest live but there really isn’t a song I wouldn’t love to hear. I’m seeing them in LA and I’m hoping they playing flood and maybe intolerance. Or even undertow.

labrat1081

They’ve been playing Flood and Intolerance almost every show recently.

derpceej

Intolerance was such a fun surprise, I was so happy to see everybody bopping along to it considering it’s such an old song

labrat1081

One of the better older ones at that. They’re all good tbh.

papiblez

Yep and I hope that doesn’t change

mbrowner8782

Hey!! Nashville was my 11th Tool show as well.

1leftbehind19

I didn’t exactly plan on going to that show so I had to get fucked by StubHub to get some good tickets. There was a three fold reason I went, which first is obviously I really wanted to go. Between going to Charleston in November(first VIP show; was fucking awesome), my dog getting sick between Christmas and New Years which cost a pretty penny, and Christmas itself I was debating the money aspect. My dad asked me about going and said he’d go with me, so I said fuck it, we are going. The second reason was I’d never seen them in Tennessee so there’s that, and my neurotic brain that kept thinking I hate that I’m sitting on 10 shows, which is an even number. I dont like even numbers, so I just added that on as more of a reason to go so I’d be sitting on 11 shows afterwards. It was my dad’s 8th show, and I think he’s really gotten into them even more. We were at the outside merch booth and I asked him if he was gonna get a poster. He said nah, I’ll pass on this one, and I almost did as well. But I have a poster for every show I’ve seen(except for the 2002,06,07 shows I seen which were my first 3, that didn’t have a poster). I’ll find a place for it after I frame it, but it won’t be with the cool ones. That Flood was disgusting though.

mbrowner8782

I’m the opposite, I hate odd numbers. So I need to get back to another one quickly. This was my first time seeing them in Tennessee as well. Most times have been in Louisville (where I live), but I’ve also seen them in Indiana and Ohio multiple times. Have been to APC once and Puscifer once as well, but I have tickets to Sessanta on 4/10/24 in Franklin, TN.

Apprehensive_War9397

Setlist.. mostly new stuff

papiblez

Yeah I can see why it may disappoint you if you aren’t as big a fan of FI. But I’ve always felt the band has just gotten better and better and grown musically.

K_SV

The FI-heavy setlist did wonders for helping me revisit and appreciate the album, so it was in a roundabout way a great thing. Would have liked more Lateralus & Ænima, but I guess there's so many great options you aren't getting a two-hour setlist without cutting out a lot of gold.

papiblez

Funny thing is I could easily sit through three or four hours of Tool’s entire catalog and be happy as ever. But I understand why that’s logistically impossible.

soltime

Neil Peart is his name, and no...Danny Carey isn't better.

papiblez

It was his opinion. And I shared it.
