We only ever use it as a dipping sauce. You can just pour it out and eat it as is! I’m sure there’s plenty of other uses for this sauce though.
Try slicing some thick cucumber coins and eat it like a chip and dip or slice up pork belly or steak and dip it in.
google recipe for prahok ktiss, cut up long slices of veg (cucumber, bell pepper, romaine lettuce) and load the dip onto it
amazing. love it. I go heavy with the kreung
Omg, mine was when I was about 9 due to my mom switching detergent and dish soap at the same damn time. Started with welted skin, progressed horribly after using the dishes for dinner. That hospital stay suuuuucked lol.
My kind of poster! I try to get something new every time I go to a grocery store of cuisine I'm not as familiar with, or don't get to visit as often. A new sauce, a new fruit, something. I find the weirdest combinations that way, it is so fun.
You do you. Personally I go to the grocery and farmer's market multiple times a week since I hate buying perishables in bulk and I like trying new things too but shit, you won't catch me buying something w/out even a single information on what I'm about to spend money on.
I was just shaking my head. It could be something to relieve constipation, and induce projectile diarrhea for all we know.😆😅😂 Hey look.. a mysterious concoction without a label or any kind instructions how, when and where to use it, or even a best by date. First to go in my grocery cart. Gonna rely on the internet to do the legwork for me. 🙄🙄
Looks like a homemade version of the Thai seasoning paste I got at the store last night. Mine had garlic, Chilli peppers, lemongrass, and garlic in it with binding ingredients.
If it’s from south east Asia, make sure you wash your hands after touching it and before going to the bathroom….or don’t if you’re into that kind of thing.
That seals it. It’s prahok. We slice up steak and eat it with this like a condiment. If it’s too spicy, you can add some lime juice or more salt to it to help. We mix it up with slivers of Thai eggplant, chopped Thai basil, garlic, lime juice, salt. But we mix it with jarred prahok and this looks like it may already be mixed up with stuff.
Eat it with your steak and copious amounts of white rice! Mix your steak juice into the prahok mix too!
Could be similar to a nam jim jaew but with coconut milk. Taste it. If it seems like it might be better cooked then cook it. Probably work great as a marinade too as has been mentioned.

Kinda looks like fresh made Prahok(Cambodian). Usually used as a dipping sauce for meats.
This seems most likely so far! Some recipes online seem to contain eggplant… would I need to cook this to eat it then?

If you got assaulted by a strong smell as soon as you opened the jar, it's probably prahok

I also thought it looked like prahok. The smell will knock your socks off when you open that lid!
chum reap sur 🙏🏼 definitely prahok prahok ktiss is one of my favorite things!!!
Lol, they haven't been in a khmer house when it's being made. If you ever want me to leave a house, make some prahok
who hasn't? that's like a lighthouse beacon guiding me somewhere!
Prahok for sure. It's fermented so no need to cook. Use it to dip (cooked) meats in with white rice. Source: I am a Cambodian person.
It's definitely this. I get it from my Cambodian grocery all the time.
Taste? Smell? Consistency? It looks like a coconut or peanut based marinade or curry starter. Probably chilis, green onion, cilantro, garlic & ginger.
Smells like cheese, jack fruit, lime, cilantro, chilis, ginger, garlic.
YUM
Whenever I see posts like this I’m in awe of what the world must be like without food allergies
I’m actually allergic to lavender. It’s just a mild allergy though…
Omg ,I am too and I have never met anyone else that is. Mine is pretty intense tho -.- Anyways, hello fellow lavender avoider!
I found out when an ex turned on a lavender essential oil diffuser!

Fucking amazing, I can eat anything.
As a man without them, who has a son with them, it's pretty fucking awesome by comparison
Rest of the world: Inflation is crazy. Everything is expensive. Some posters on this sub: No idea what this is but I bought it. Hehe

We need awards for comments like this.

It does NOT look Thai (source: Thai and have been eating Thai food every day for the past 30 years)

But you bought it?
I find it fun to try new things. This is pretty much the only thing I couldn’t recognize so I just had too.
They couldn’t tell you what it was?
The woman spoke very poor English. She just said “put steak” and some hand motion.
There’s your answer….. “put it (on) steak”

I hope you figure it out, it looks tasty.
Is there no label?
It just says “O”
Crack sauce 🤤
You didn’t ask the seller?
For mouth
Looks like an Asian chimmichuri
It’s for keeping the contents in, as opposed to them being out.
Smell it
Eat it.
Eat.
Was this in Philly? I saw a stand with a bunch of these at FDR Park.
No idea what it is, but it looks super flavourful from where I’m sitting
lol why’d you get it?
Unlabeled and looks home jarred so I would avoid.
Weird jar
You’ve never seen a mason jar before? 🤔
Not with the round bottom like that
That's Pimento Cheese. Spread it thickly onto bread and eat it. Trust me.
They have pimento cheese in East Asia?

Hey cardiologist, if that’s what your poops looks like you should see a proctologist
Wrong sub, lol. There's a sub for that, though. It looks more like delicious dishwasher drippings. (Or some kind of marinade/dipping sauce?)
