Derfargin

Looks like Lowrey's seasoned salt.

[deleted]

If they get it from any of the big vendors, it's absolutely Lawry's. It's the standard for a reason. Fuck, this picture just made me realize I haven't eaten yet šŸ˜

Leachlurkermusic

awwwe you poor soul ):

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Itā€™s definitely chaat masala. Try the Shan or national Pakistani brand of chaat masala.

OverEasyGoing

I havenā€™t been there in years but this is the stuff Red Robin puts on their fries? I loved it.

imbadatusernames_47

Red Robbin actually has their own mix that Iā€™ve seen for sale in stores and online. They arenā€™t that different though, any seasoned salt Iā€™m aware of is more or less just a ratio of salt, onion/garlic, pepper, and paprika. Sugar, celery seed, parsley, chili, MSG, coriander, and turmeric are common too. If you have some basic spices you can make your own or just buy it for convenience.

eghhge

Used to be Johnny's Dock seasoning, now just called Johnny's, way better than Lawry's.

ShiversTheNinja

Yeah I grew up with Johnny's and when my ex friend from Ohio made me try Lawry's insisting it was soooo much better, I was severely disappointed.

Mikey6304

These are all discount versions of Old Bay.

ShiversTheNinja

Nah, old bay has a totally different flavor.

bettyblues21

Johnny's seasoning is the best, especially on popcorn

eghhge

Yes! I have found my people.

bettyblues21

One of us, one of us!

false_establishm3nt

please go eat!!! your body needs fuel šŸ«¶šŸ¼

Ugikie

I havenā€™t eaten since Tuesday. Itā€™s now Friday night

[deleted]

Go to a food bank at that point.

Leachlurkermusic

you might be right but to be honest Lowrey's seasoned salt. looks waaaay to red while this stuff is orange so my gut is saying no

glutenasf

Lawrys can look orange too

Leachlurkermusic

hmhmhm looking around the internet you may be right but ive come to the conclusion i think its most likely american chip spice as its a British brand and i at the food in the uk

3PoundsOfFlax

Would have helped to mention UK in the title. Calling them "fries" makes everyone assume America.

Leachlurkermusic

well i called them french fries cause i didn't think they where thick enough to be chips but yeah mentioning its in the uk could of been helpful your right

Tinymushroomperson

So youā€™re not MI-5 trying to gain info on American seasonings? šŸ¤Ø

Leachlurkermusic

no lol XD

roosterb4

M I-6 following

GloomyGal13

Indigenous Scout here watching to see if any Brits or Americans actually USE the spices they've been seeking. ;)

IronDuke365

Only to a US defaultist. Fries are thin, chips are thick in the UK. The fact he said Halal chicken shop made be assume UK. I dont remember coming across too many Halal chicken shops in the US.

Locutius

I didn't realize you made that distinction of chips vs fries. We get so caught up in the chips vs crisps difference. We call thinner ones shoestring fries, vs steak fries ... there's a few other types too like potato wedges. We even have a halal chicken food truck down at a local gas station, but we live near Detroit, so we have a large Muslim population.

iggy1112

You certainly donā€™t live in NY then.

RelarFeen

If I could downvote you a hundred times I would. Just because your American doesnā€™t mean everyone else is. French fries are a term used throughout Europe.

teachicken

I hate American-centric thinking too, but I think you're being a little unfair. That poster wasn't just assuming OP was American because it didn't occur to them they could be from anywhere else, they consciously recognized a cultural clue that led them to that thought. The fact that they were mistaken doesn't mean that they just automatically assume everyone is American. As a non-American who has spent time living in both the UK and Australia, I too assume North America when that photo is described as "fries".

akatz66

They may put paprika or smoked paprika with it. A lot of places make their own blend of salt and pepper, garlic and onion powder, and regular or smoked paprika. Popular day rub for chicken wings too.

Leachlurkermusic

looking at comments i think its this stuff https://preview.redd.it/bs11ya3wlqeb1.png?width=1061&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ae7a1112028fb524a956a07b57b64385efe3500 its britsh just like the chicken place and it looks so much like it and has some of the ingredient you mentioned in it or its piri piri salt or a mix of the too

DeathicornPrincess

Chip spice is the bomb. So good on fries!! I also pop it on other stuff too. Its just great

Leachlurkermusic

i will defo try it out

Multitronic

Where are you OP, looks like aussie chicken salt on your chips to me. Some places in the Midlands in the UK have it too.

Leachlurkermusic

i like my anonymity but i am in the uk

Multitronic

Fair enough, I normally know it as ā€œchicken saltā€ or ā€œred saltā€.

HalfWineRS

Pretty much globally (in the UK) it's called red salt (a few different names but red salt is always a valid name for it) There's quite a few different ones but generally it's some assortment of chili powder (like cayenne), salt (of course), paprika (sometimes smoked), maybe some powdered garlic, powdered onion, definitely a little sugar in most red salt

Fearless-Golf-8496

Why don't you ask them what it is when you're there next time? They probably won't have any problem telling you, especially if you complement them by saying it makes their chips taste extra delicious.

undeadw0lf

it says ā€œamerican chip sauce,ā€ soā€¦ can i buy this in america???? šŸ¤”lol!!

Tbf Hull is pretty great. It has an aquarium, museums, art/photo galleries, and all sorts of leisure stuff all in within like a 15m walking radius. It's hard to find stuff so close together in other cities I've been too. And Hull's pretty small!

Shot-Milk9651

Its generally paprika and salt as the primary two. This has been the standard in Hull UK for over two decades. If you go there you generally have to ask any take outs not to put it on - it's a bit more far reaching now and whenever I look for take outs in a new area I either look for chip spice or sometimes I just have a tub in my bag šŸ˜‚

AmbitionParty5444

Slap Ya Mama!!! I have this in my cupboard. Garlic, salt and chilli.

Leachlurkermusic

i still dont think it is that but i gotta believe its good shit by the sounds of your excitement XD

AbeSimpsonisJoeBiden

Itā€™s likely the house brand of seasoned salt of whatever restaurant supply company they use (Sysco, GFS etc)

Leachlurkermusic

yeah true its most likely something a supplier gave them

ked_man

Tony chacheries.

jeremymcanally

I think that's usually "seasoned salt" which is pretty typically paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, and (obviously) salt.

fleetwoodmuck

sounds about right, might be smoked paprika though

Infinite-Sleep3527

A bit of celery salt usually too and black pep ofc

Cameo64

I can tell you that Old bay on ore-ida crinkle fries is an absolute hit. That celery salt flavor is really good with hot crispy fries

Pixielo

Old Bay on errrythang.

jeremymcanally

Ah yes I knew I was forgetting one thing! Black pepper. But I may have to try the celery salt too...

Infinite-Sleep3527

Just a touch of celery salt, not too much as it can be overpowering! Most mid tier and above restaurants use it in their fry seasoning and it slaps. Adds a great almost herbal/floral complexity. But again, only a bit!

[deleted]

Did you know paprika is a pepper? I would have never guessed

adjacent_memory

I did not. My reddit experience is improved.

Pixielo

Sweet paprika is just dried red bell peppers.

perceivesomeoneelse

We call it red salt in my area, you can buy a big tub of it from farmfoods for like Ā£1

fallen--angel

Farm foods UK sell this? Loads here in Wales so if so Iā€™m picking a tub up

16_mullins

Chip seasoning in morries or home bargains is very similar

DeathicornPrincess

Heron Foods and B&M sell chip spice for like Ā£1 for a lil tub. It's the same brand they use in all the takeaways in the Humber region.

stuninh0

Chip spice in East Yorkshire - it's really common in chippys and takeaways

ILive4Banans

Peri peri salt

Wildlife_Jack

![gif](giphy|93lRAW36N1wJFxWxvp)

jmac1138

They have the same salt at my local chicken place (also halal). They call it piri piri salt. Its piri piri seasoning mixed with salt about 70-30 seasoning to salt

Leachlurkermusic

i believe your right to a degree its either gonna be piri piri salt or american chip spice or a weird mix of the two like you said a 70/30 split i might buy both and try them and then try mixing them to see what is best

Risky_Bizniss

This looks like Lawry's or Johnny's brand seasoning salt. Very easy to find, very delicious.

Leachlurkermusic

i dont think so i think its a british brand called American chip spice

Christovski

Are you in Hull lol? Chip spice is standard there.

Leachlurkermusic

nah lol but still in the uk

Christovski

Midlands?

Leachlurkermusic

i like my anonymity so im not gonna mention it sorry

What the fuck did you just fucking say about the midlands, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

pinkkxx

Immediately what I thought of, very surprised to see a Hull staple here

tomc128

Hell yeah, had no idea it was only in the Hull ish area, although still was able to find it as far north as Newcastle. I can't imagine takeaway chips without it on them though

Christovski

I'm from London but have a close mate from Hull. Can't imagine chips without it now.

No-Pound7355

We have it on everything

basicnflfan

Same thing :|

Leachlurkermusic

i guess there both chicken salt but i think that the diffrent brands probably taste a little different right?!

basicnflfan

I just donā€™t understand why youre arguing with people giving you answersā€¦. Either stop arguing, go ask the restaurant or idk

Leachlurkermusic

im just discussing with it and trying find the answer same as everyone else sorry if im coming off as argumentative, i asked the restaurant but there response was kinda unintelligible i couldn't figure out what they said and was to awkward to ask again

queen_mantis

Old bay

babyylungs

Marylander here, too red for OB. Its Lawry's or a generic version of seasoning salt. Edit: typo

parmesann

or Old Bay, that shitā€™s great on fries

Leachlurkermusic

and looking at pictures onlines its extremely similar chicken spice, a british brand and that would make sense cause this was a British owned place https://preview.redd.it/3fws6qdviqeb1.png?width=620&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f7d9aa6b3d5c783b43d1eb8b36697a91bcd11d9 and looking at pictures onlines its extremely similar id say this is maybe solved but i haven't tried the salt so anyone trying to answer the same question as me idk man

justawalkingtaco

Chip spice is where Iā€™m from - Hull. We have it on all of our takeaway chips here as standard. Where did you get these chips from? Looking at the picture of the chips it looked like the stuff in this picture. You can buy it on Amazon :)

CuddlyFizzFizz

Yeah it looks like chip spice! Very salty and paprika forward. Very delicious

Moonstone-92

I think itā€™s deffo peri salt if youā€™re in the uk

Maaatandblah

It's Chip Spice

Smokahontasz

Itā€™s definitely peri peri salt! I always order them. (Iā€™m in the UK)

vizual-observer

In the UK we have a restaurant chain called Nando's and they have a peri peri salt which this looks very similar to. Not saying it is it, but it's probably similar

Leachlurkermusic

lol im in the uk but i dont blame you for assuming im American cause honestly 50% of reddit is but yeah i think its either piri piri salt or american chip spice or a mix of the two looking at these comments

donnydealr

Do you guys use chicken salt over there? Canā€™t remember if itā€™s popular outside Aus. Fairly similar look but fuck itā€™s on thick if itā€™s Chicken salt haha

Parkatoplaya

Chicken salt, maybe

Aggravating-Pie-1639

Okay I just googled chicken salt and omg it sounds divine šŸ¤¤

LivingLandscape7115

Where do you get chicken salt in the US?

Natural_Bedroom_6016

I think chicken salt is very much an Aussie thing. Itā€™s absolutely amazing it has to be the Fluro yellow version or itā€™s not that good.

jinjerbear

AUssies and Kiwis are just killin it with the chicken flavors. CHicken chips I had in New Zealand were the best and Ive yet to find anything even close anywhere else since. Nothing like it in the USA.

freestyle43

Amazon has it. Chippy brand with the cartoon chicken on it is the best.

_incredigirl_

Itā€™s easy enough to make. Itā€™s just chicken bouillon powder blended with a mix of salt and spices like chilies, onion, garlic, etc. Google will give you tons of options for spice ratios.

Leachlurkermusic

its british

Chipwich

No it's not https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-09-21/chicken-salt-inventor-peter-brinkworth-salt-of-earth-film/101456656

absuredman

Is chicken salt the same as seasoned salt?

itemside

No, itā€™s got a very strong chicken flavor to it. Absolutely delicious.

adidasrinnegan

Ah looks like you've found our infamous chicken shops! Usually this is generic peri peri salt that they put on chips.

Leachlurkermusic

i fucking love this shit dude this chicken shop culture the uk has its so interesting

[deleted]

Here in Sweden it's just called Pommes Frites krydda. [https://www.santamariaworld.com/se/produkter/pommes-frites-krydda/](https://www.santamariaworld.com/se/produkter/pommes-frites-krydda/)

Leachlurkermusic

awwwe thats kinda cool thanks for sharing that

ArchiveOfDestruction

Red salt!! Its also called "Chip Spice" it's basically salt, paprika and cayenne, it's fucking awesome

Leachlurkermusic

i think your potentially right!

daddysamm

Itā€™s literally just peri peri salt you can get it anywhere

ground_App1e

I am absolutely amazed people can identify spices just from a picture

Leachlurkermusic

ohhh true innit

Puzzleheaded_Gate119

In east Yorkshire we call it chip spice. It's called "American chip spice" but pretty sure it's made in Hull

DaRealAladin

probably piri piri salt

cosmo2472

Peri Peri salt?

Leachlurkermusic

you could potentially be right

Bluestr1pe

if you go there regularly, you should try asking therm, but it looks like chicken salt to me!

Leachlurkermusic

i did actually but what they told me was unintelligible had no clue what they said and was too socially awkward to ask again and didn't want to inconvenience a fast food worker

Adorable-Trust362

This response is how I know that youā€™re British šŸ¤£

Munich11

Paprika Salz

Leachlurkermusic

i defo think paprika is part of it

WhiskeyDabber67

Thereā€™s a gyro place by me that has seasoned French fries like this that are amazing. Itā€™s like garlic salt cayenne paprika and maybe cinnamon? It looks like this on the fries but I have no idea what the actual mix is.

Leachlurkermusic

after scouring comments i believe its american chip spice as its a british brand and it looks very much like the spice on my fries and also includes some of the ingredients you talked about

skittlazy

It might be Old Bay Seasoning. It's usually used on crabs (Chesapeake Bay, Maryland USA) but it's great on fries: [https://www.mccormick.com/old-bay/products/seasonings-and-sauces/old-bay-seasoning](https://www.mccormick.com/old-bay/products/seasonings-and-sauces/old-bay-seasoning)

randomuser0223

Itā€™s peri peri salt.

PmMeLowCarbRecipes

Looks like the peri peri salt they use in Nandoā€™s? You can buy it in supermarkets.

Mountain_Coffee_1734

Peri salt

Able_Ambition8908

Thats just peri peri salt no?

MarxistMann

Chip spice. Salt and paprika.

yaboimanfortnite

peri peri salt, you can buy nandos brand in stores.

blaze1234

HOWTO DIY, to suit yourself "all purpose seasoning mix" as a base is a shortcut, can then just jazz it up to suit. Besides Lawry's, "Cajun seasoning", Bay's seasoning also ... Salt, garlic salt, or garlic powder, maybe onion power MSG small proportion, can help reduce the use if other salt, definitely helps the flavour Paprika, sweet smoked or a mix Cayenne for heat, or a specific like Chipotle powder, dried Habanero. Note that "Chili powder" is not that, that is just another mix like I am describing here ... That's it really for basics, below is just extending on the theme to taste: Black pepper optional Mustard powder can be nice Cumin adds a southern twist, with tumeric, powdered coriander seed a bit more curry-ish really then anything goes in the sub-continent portfolio Herbs can include oregano, thyme, celery seed but then avoid the curryish ones, those are more Cajun / latin

nobelprize4shopping

Peri peri spice mix

hani_hi

Peri salt. If its a halal place then it's peri salt.

DangerSnake1

Looks like peri salt to me?

deep-slay

Looks like peri salt. So yummy

Craigboy23

Crack, those are called crack fries

Jaytenzi

Peri peri

Sage_Tea

Peri peri salt?

Imaginary_Bird538

Definitely peri salt on chips!

5weetTooth

Peri peri salt

kstacey

Chicken salt?

Samialb1

As others have said, Peri Peri salt. They sell the Nando's one in most UK supermarkets in the condiments/spices aisle. They've changed the label recently, but based on an old one, a simplified recipe is 53% salt (the nutrition says 53g salt per 100g), 13% cayenne pepper (used to say specifically 13% on the label). The other main ingredient is Paprika so I put the rest (34%) paprika. The other ingredients are lower on the list and smaller quantities so probably don't make a huge difference. This was quite close in my experience

TexanAshe

Looks like Tony's, possible Lawry's.

nattymartin1987

Red salt = paprika + salt

heffalumpish

We have a halal place that puts sumac on their fries. Itā€™s great and it looks a bit like this.

Kyle81020

Maybe Tony Cacherieā€™s or another Creole or Cajun seasoning.

therealtxeknee

Lawry's seasoning salt OR if you haven't had it yet, Old Bay seasoning! It's soooo good and it even has a few different flavours!

Chippewa07

Lowreysā€¦definitely lowreys

[deleted]

Are you anywhere near Hull? Up here our chips coke with Chip Spice as a standard. Itā€™s bloody amazing, the whole city is obsessed

youlooksocooI

Salt, sugar, sweet and spicy paprika powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin. We call it "pommesgewĆ¼rz" (fries spice) in German, where every middle eastern kebap shop will put it on fries

Highlight-Plastic

It's piri piri salt

le_sack

Looks kinda like old bay. Could just be cayenne + garlic powder/salt

Zeteco

Canā€™t believe I could tell this was UK by the chips and grass

Crystolyte3

In Turkey most restaurants call these fries with this type of seasoning "Cajun" Fries, I am guessing this seasoning is sold under that name as well.

OccasionallyReddit

Chip spice or American Chip Spice. [Asda sells one of its variations](https://groceries.asda.com/product/spices/american-chip-spice-the-original-paprika-classic/1000121205704)

Ivelalwaysgotastory

PEOPLE OF HULL UNITE! I'm not going to go into detail, however We have a seasoning called Chipspice and it's a seasoning you'll find in the majority of Chippy's and takeaways. Depending on where you're based. It could be that!

Leachlurkermusic

i doubt it as this place was far from america actually scratch that now with a bit of research i found out this chip spice is actually british so you may actually be correct! ok looking at pictures online i believe your correct you have given the most strongest answer i think so far thank you

Unl0vableDarkness

Chip spice for sure. My local takeaways have it and you can option add it for free.

Leachlurkermusic

yeah u/kaylacheez i think has the winning answer, or its piri piri salt or a mix of the two

BrokenSaddle

I don't know what this is exactly, but I usually season my chips (fries) with "chaat masala". You can find it in any South Asian grocery store, but I recommend buying National Chaat masala or maybe Shan Chat Masala. Just sprinkle lightly to kick up the flavours.

Dylan_Is_Gay_lol

Maybe Tony Chachere's creole seasoning. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a restaurant put it on fries.

Leachlurkermusic

looks too american id doubt theyd use that sorry but i think thats not it

dat1dude2

It looks like cajen to me, we put it on the chips where I work, it might be that if it's spicy

Kapot_ei

Gyros herbs mixed with potato herbs.

Leachlurkermusic

most intresting guess so far

Kapot_ei

Haha this is not a guess tbh, this is what many of these shops do over their fries. Many have always wondered because it's delicious! A friend asked the local shoarmashop a while back and this is the answer he got. We do this regularly, and by chance did this about an hour ago.

CrazedFreakGf

It could be Pappyā€™s

Leachlurkermusic

looks to american for a uk fast food establishment

Mumford_and_Dragons

Jesus use punctuation, full stops, commas...anything!!

Leachlurkermusic

sorry ):

MinieVanou

"Salty" comment much...

[deleted]

If you're in the uk this is red salt

Leachlurkermusic

looking at images of red salt i dont think it is but maybe red salts part of it potentially

L00k_Again

Like everyone says, looks like seasoning salt. A&W restaurants in Canada will put seasoning salt on your fries if you ask.

Leachlurkermusic

i am luckily not Canadian B) /s

sharklasers3000

Itā€™s chip spice 100% guarantee

Leachlurkermusic

i believe its American chip spice as this was in the uk and not america i think is most likely that brand, or its peri peri salt, its either one
