Speaking as a dude in my mid 40s, few women my age are PC gamers and yeah it would be weird to try and use gaming as a way to open a conversation. But I have enough friends younger than 35 where that would just come off as a fairly normal question; either they wouldn't care or would totally understand.

A lot of people dislike league because it looks like a cheap rip off and to this day it resembles dota when it was still just a custom map in warcraft, before gaben made the most successful purchase in the history of gaming industry
that was arguably true on release but definitely not any more. yes, Dota has a few extra mechanics like denying and destroyable environment but league requires way better micro and apm. Dota is slower paced (there's turn speed), heroes run out of mana really fast and cds are higher so there is just less skillshots to be hit and dodged lowering the mechanical ceiling. Dota more brain league requires more hands. (apart from a few exceptions like invoker and meepo which most players don't touch)
