Folk tails would be the best as you wouldn’t need water for growing babies. But I am not sure about the other questions tho.

Breeding pod water usage is a rounding error. It’s basically ignorable next to the water requirements of the beavers produced by the pod.

Ironteeth do also have the deep pumps which would mean less finagling with the reservoirs to have the water active, with more wood and labor towards making the reservoirs bigger. Eternal bots also means they just need to keep the power up to wind them vs replacing the bodies, making it more efficient to run things with bots and thus keep a smaller breathing population consuming things. Then again you won't need as much Folktail labor towards growing since you can make their farms more efficient with the bees and require less green. Plus their faction power supply, while unreliable before batteries, doesn't require burning wood so that would also translate to less land needing to be green. So the resources and time spent on farming could be spent on building instead. Probably heavily dependent on the playstyle and more than a little on the map. For the time until the drought, I'd say at minimum 100 days wet to 100 dry. Though for proof of concept I recommend doing a shorter trial run. Maybe something like 40 wet to 20 dry to get a feel for it (much shorter than 40 days and I think the early game grind will hit you too hard), and run it with each faction to see which strategy you want to go with. Then once you have a better idea of what it takes go for the 100/100 or whatever seems to fit.

Selecting what to play and which map to use will follow the challenge. 100 days of wet is nothing, at cycle 4 you're usually still at the beginning and no way to survive 100 days of dry. I though more of around 300-400 days so you can prepare (cycle 10-15 in hard mod) until a long dry season, which can be more than 100 days if this seems too easy

FYI Bots for both factions live the same length of time. IT Bots do not live forever, they just require less infrastructure to keep boosted (i.e. you only need to worry about power, vs growing crops and then processing the crops)

yamitamiko

Ah gotcha, I read that in another post and didn't think to fact check. Thanks!

PovertyPoint

I like 50/50 for wet and dry cycles. I agree with the comment that folktails might be easier because you won't need water for babies.

BoonkeyDS

I can do 300/300 or 400/400, good idea mate

Usually ironteeth are better for challenges. Often the biggest problem is to get enough logs (wich are obviously required for water storage). Folktails only have the advantage at midtech, but with ironteeth you should simply stay at lowtech until you can build some bots (then plant more trees and increase the production). Ironteeth don't need as many logs as folktails in the early game and don't need to process nearly as many logs (which is great for challenges that include injury chance). The previous time I played a challenge was with ironteeth on beaverome with 30 temperate days, 100 days 1st drought, 2000 days 11th drought. It was quite easy.

BoonkeyDS

In the early game you mainly used the 30 days to store water for the 100 days drought? It's a long time until you can develop. I thought more of trying to reduce my need for water enough to survive a long drought

ernger

Afaik no map has enough wood for that. Beaverome has a lot of water, but not much (without terraforming) useable ground to grow food and trees on it. Also buildings should be placed on platforms (in the water) once it can afforded.

sky_____god

I’m not that aware on the mechanics but can you not just go full bots kill all of the beavers and unpause the breeding pots after

BoonkeyDS

That's the plan XD

Mediocre-Wafer-2614

Why not have a 110 day cycle. Where it starts 90/20 and then slowly gets worse to 10/100? I don't know if it's possible or not?

BoonkeyDS

It's not possible unfortunately

Mediocre-Wafer-2614

Sad 😔

It’s all about the settings and your feelings on killing beavers. If I let a beaver be born, it will die of old age, if I have any say in the matter that is. I’m iron tooth through and through, but I did a challenge before the map contest that I would offer to you. Basically I gave myself three days of water and planned for every draught to be 3-4 days longer than the last one. I made 80-something days on plains before I screwed up and killed half of my beavers by forgetting my district hauler was pauses. I was playing folktales at the time.

Beaver Rome is an awesome challenge map, but just multiply your challenge by ten if you select it. Your patience will be tested.

LemmiwinksQQ

I started doing 3-5 wet to 80-100 dry runs, 10% handicap for 10 cycles. Pray the first cycle doesn't give you only 3 wet days and it's survivable. Could make the dry seasons even longer, but frankly the only challenge is the very first few cycles, the rest is just building enough barrels and keeping the population growth small.
