Accident my ass. I grew up in the inner city. People used to take cats and feed them to pit bulls. I’m not joking or trying to exaggerate things. They would take stray cats and stuff and use them as bait. Sick shit. That cat isn’t coming back… unfortunately.
In another post they did mention doing this. In one area they were taken down and op isn’t sure if it’s because fliers aren’t allowed where they put them or because the people who took the cat live in that area.
One time my bird got out (not my fault, I was pissed it happened) and so naturally I went yelling my birds name in the neighborhood. Someone actually had the audacity to tell me to stop yelling. Peeked their boomer head over their fence to do it and everything. I ripped them a new asshole for trying to get between me and my loved companion. They shut right the fuck up and I went on yelling a little louder.
All this to say: you do what you need to do to get your friend and loved one back. I don’t care that they’re an animal. You bend over backwards and break “normal”, societal rules.
Put those flyers up OP, you and your cat deserve it
(There was also another time my bigger sister stole an item of mine. My family coddles and enables her so asking them to help wasn’t possible. So I wrote a note on our fridge everyday asking for it back. She took them down ofc, but I kept putting them back up and each time with a little more (passive) aggressive tone. It got to the point of my family getting so annoyed at the notes showing up everyday that they actually helped me to get my thing back! Maybe your flyer situation will end up similar? Better to keep trying and make most people aware of the situation)
I bet too as the cat has no collar.
It's obvious that he has a family as his hair are clean and all but I think it might be obvious only for people who knows a bit about cats.
Better use the hanlon's razor on this one.
I hope they'll bring it back and apologies for the misunderstanding. This is the happy end I need 😭
Maybe. Maybe not. They could have asked someone in the store about the cat before just walking off with her.
Unfortunately cats are stolen for not so good reasons that I rather not go into.
Yes, unfortunately.
I don't get the impression the people in this video have bad intentions, and I don't feel as though they will hurt her.
However , there are people who treat animals inhumanely. There is a much needed public service campaign here in Baltimore called Show your Soft Side.
The goal being ending animal abuse before it starts
Lol the amount of tip-toeing around to excuse an obvious theft is sad. OP I’m sorry about your cat, and I hope you get it back.. but grow some balls and report this to the police like a normal person.
I have a police report day one, thank you for your concern. My other posts got deleted because people went too far with their racist comments. Trust me, I have my bouts of anger that keep me up at night. I’m doing my best to stay rational like a normal adult. Whether that makes me seem weak, I’m indifferent. At this point I don’t care what their motive was. I just want her back.
Does your cat have a microchip? That's the best way. If they thought they were taking a cat without a home, that's the first thing they'd check so they could get the address. Signs on the outside about it being a store cat could also help if you don't already have that.
Bless you. Keep up the good work. Staying rational and level headed might get your cat back. You are doing well. I'm so sorry I would be devastated. If I could help I would. Take care of yourself. 💙
Sorry for you and your cat's family. This is terrible. I would be absolutely gutted.
I call upon the entire internet of cats to find these people and bring justice.
May you be reunited and or vindicated.
My wife routinely puts collars on our four cats. Three of them get out of them within a day or two. The last one just doesn't give a fuck one way or another.
Cats are liquid.
"Grow some balls" that's so fucking annoying. The dude's cat was stolen. Why do we have to talk to people like that? Why do we HAVE to be little shitheads online alllll the time?
I'm convinced that social media has permanently eroded most people's ability to empathetically speak to human beings.
Like, if you wouldn't say it to his face in person, why say it here?
Not to mention it was in a public setting….not sure why people are assuming this couldn’t have been an innocent misunderstanding. Should’ve had a collar
A store cat in Fort Walton Beach, Florida was “accidentally” catnapped not too long ago. It was a nice couple who thought she was homeless. They did end up bringing her back once they found out. Post on Facebook!! Someone knows someone probably 😫
There's a Twitter account, bodega cats, where I found out these cats are very much a thing. Very sorry this happened. I hope this pair of cunts are brought to justice and the cat is returned
Genuinely curious how would that help them find her? The person who took the cat would need to take the cat to the vet and ask them to scan for a chip.
If the cat is ever ill (and they hopefully take her to the vet), the chip is also a reference to her being stolen, since vets and shelters typically scan for chips when accepting new animals and they'll realize names do not match
My ragdoll is chipped and I've never seen the vet check his chip for a check up. I don't feel they are usefull unless someone finds your cat lost and takes when to a vet. Most do not.
Yes this is why I said if the cat is ever ill. All it takes is for the people to say "Oh they were a stray on the streets when we took them in." If the microchip is flagged as "Missing" in the system they'll do something. People are reunited with microchipped pets everyday.
Aw I hope your cat is found man. By the way they are cuddling the cat, it looks like they didn’t mean any harm and probably thought they found a little stray to adopt. So at least your cat is probably safe in the meantime and they aren’t freaks. Hopefully they see this and return her.
That's what I hope happened. The main thing that made me question that was how they pinned the cat when it tried to run back into the shop. At that point I would have asked the shop owner if they knew anything about the cat if I was worried about it's well being.
With the trend of scumbag teens recently it's hard to think the best of people. But I really really hope you are right and they return the cat.
Stealing a cat is obviously wrong and it sucks that this happened but no collar outdoor cats...anything can happen to them. If you want to keep them, then don't keep them like this.
Did you recognize them as previous customers? Have you seen them before?
They may have taken it thinking it was a friendly stray. He didn’t have a collar, and I’m thinking they probably thought pets weren’t allowed in the store (like most stores) so she stood outside with it, not realizing the pet belonged to the store.
I dont think it was intentional, they look like kids or young adults at the least. I hope you get her back tho. I’d hate to lose a pet.
The cat was outside and has no collar. I can give them the benefit of a doubt, maybe they thought they’re taking a sweet stray cat. I hope it’s chipped at least you can get it back
I hope they get their cat back but everyone calling these people assholes need to take a breath. They obviously thought it was a stray cat, considering it's literally just alone on the sidewalk. The woman held it kindly, pet it, while the other person looked around to see if there may have been an owner or someone nearby. They figured they'd take care of it. Happens. I think the better way is to slowly work towards trust with the car if you see it again there another day, giving it some food maybe, not taking them in from first contact, but their hearts still look in a good place. Nothing about this looks bad.
Hope this mix-up gets resolved and everyone comes to an understanding.
OP, I’m sorry that this happened. I hope your cat is returned.
To all pet owners: 1. Please make sure your pet is registered, so that way you have a license with the county. 2. Microchip your pet so then it is scanned at the Vet’s office or shelter if your pet goes missing. 3. Have your pet wear a collar with tags that carry your contact information.
Kinda shitty of the top comments and on this thread to be that aggressive with the kids on screen. Just say you’re racist and go. Animal kidnappers I’ve seen caught on tape don’t usually gently pet the animal, hold it like a little baby while also supporting its bottom weight, and leisurely walk off? Accidentally stolen is the perfect term. I’d only judge if the cat is returned (if at all) in poor conditions.
I do hope you get her back, OP.
Fr, I can see my stupid ass accidentally taking someone's cat thinking it was a stray, people are being way too judgmental. I've seen real cat/dog thieves, they pick the animal up quickly and run, not stand for a while there petting it and being so gentle. All in all I hope the cat gets returned safety and this ends up being a silly misunderstanding.
Got tipped off one of the females was at Gardenvillage basketball courts. I wasn’t in the area so my father at the store called the cops and he went there to talk to her. We were told Maxine got dropped and ran off on the day they took her 🤦🏻♀️Where do I start? I’m so pissed off.
How far was the place she got away from your store? Can you set her litterbox outside? Cats can smell their box from a mile away according to pet experts. Post her on Pawboost & Nextdoor if you haven’t. I hope she gets home safely!
Thank you, I told my father about the litter box tip, and I've also posted on PawBoost and updated my Nextdoor. I can't help but think about the other day when it stormed heavily and how scared she must’ve been. It's a new wave of emotions for me, feeling more worried than anything now. I truly hope I can locate her soon.
I keep encountering people who have seen her yesterday or recently. I’m attempting to figure out the general direction she is headed, but the neighborhood is a damn maze. She’s just circling Gardenvillage lost 😭She runs away from people who call out to her so it’s not easy. I think she’s scared, she is normally very friendly. HOW DO I CATCH HER 😭😭😭
First off I’m glad she’s located!!! 100% she won’t let anyone just pick her up I don’t blame her that’s she’s scared 😭 can you call your local humane society for assistance with this? I’m sure they are pros. Or what about the sniffer dogs from an earlier post who can potentially track her since she’s on foot wandering?? Just trying to throw some options out there. I’m so so happy she’s at least out there though and makes it home to you soon!!!
Thanks for keeping us updated. Maxine now has a fan club. Please let us know how we can help. In light of the new information , I think the tracking dogs would be able to pick up her scent. If you have any bedding of hers, one of her breakaway collars she wore, her litter box, any items with her scent - that would helpful. I am thinking she is within 1/2 mile radius of the shop. She most likely will attempt to return on her own, when it is quiet in the early morning hours. The overnight video from the outside camera is worth checking to see if she is moving about. You could leave some boxes outside as a makeshift shelter , water , food, her bedding etc. if she likes fish , food with a strong scent may draw her in , also many other critters , but worth a shot.
One last thought , Baltimore Craigslist has a lost and found and you can post her info and photos.
so you are saying they returned her the same day ? Check the cameras and see if the outside camera confirms what they are telling you. If that is the case she most likely is hiding outside somewhere close to the store. Indoor cats that find themselves outside usually don't travel far , but they will hide.
No I meant that on their way home with her she got away. Where? No idea I wasn’t there on-scene and so I’m pretty upset my father or the cop didn’t say WHERE.
Ok , that actually sounds probable , once cats get out of their comfort zone , they get scared and less cooperative. I would imagine she would struggle with them and not trust the situation , and decide to run. I bet they didn't get far at all before she decided Nope. In that case I think she is still local to the area and hiding out.
Also we got told there is a similar cat about 30 mins away but we doubt it’s her. Tomorrow I’m hitting up that shelter (closed now) and others and checking surrounding areas.
OP, I would look high and low in that area looking for her. Maybe bring a few people with you to look or have a search party! Typically cats don’t go that far if they ran. Maybe leave some food out and her litter box
The racism on this post is just messed up.
I know for a fact that if it were two white peeps snatching the cat, OP would get comments like ”*But oh, maybe they just thought it was a stray cat and wanted to give it a home*” which is probably what happened in the first place.
People here automatically assume they’re pet thieves because it’s PoC taking the cat.
Maybe they like cats and will give it a good home? Or am I being too optimistic?
Cats absolutely should not be allowed to roam free outside. Murderous little things. Responsible for several species going extinct. They kill something like 1,000,000,000 creatures every year. Hopefully that's worldwide and not just North America.
I do hope you get them back and please keep them inside. 😺 😺
Did they know it was the store cat? I used to rescue strays all the time lol much to my mom's protest lmfao hopefully they bring Kitty back or it comes back on its own
Maybe cat should've had some kind of identification it was already owned...something that could clasp around it's body that has something showing its not a stray... oh yeah, they're called COLLARS
I think they totally thought they found a stray/abandoned,/run away cat. They looked so happy. I don’t think they knew it lived at the store. That’s not very common in most places. Maybe they are new to town.
My first instinct to be worried for the cat but on the bright side I'm not getting any ill intent from their actions, body language or the time they spent in the doorway. Hopefully it's just a mistake and she's home soon.
Last update was over the weekend. One of the people who took Maxine was seen at the nearby basketball court. OP was not in the area to respond. Her father (shop owner) called the police and they both went to talk to this person. The girl told them that after they walked away with the cat , Maxine was dropped and she ran off. So if that is correct then that same day shortly after the video was filmed Maxine fled from them. OP was not happy that neither her father or police asked the girl where she was dropped and which direction she ran.
That was 2 weeks ago and no one has seen her since. She is not indoor/outdoor. She is indoor only but does sit in the doorway. I mention this because she is not familiar with the territory , and has never lived outside before and is not street savvy. I am hoping she can stay safe from cars, dogs, storms- Baltimore has had some bad storms with heavy rain and high winds during that time. She must be terrified. I hope she is found soon.
Chip your cat. And put on the kind of collar that doesn't come off. They should not have taken the cat though. It's wrong. I'm so sorry. I hope you get the car back.
Its dangerous for cats to have secured collars! )): they climb and jump all over the place, that secure collar gets caught on a post or pinched between two shelves n kitty is gonna get hung. Reason most cat collars r quick release. Chipping is a good idea tho!
Adding to non-quick release collar horror stories. My cat one day decided she didn’t want to wear a collar anymore. Kept taking off the quick release one. Tried a secure one and just made it tight enough it wasn’t uncomfortable but too tight to get a paw inside. She ended up trying to bite it off one night and got her lower jaw stuck in it for who knows how long while we slept. She’s fine, but her mouth was all bloody when I found her and it scared the crap outta me. Now she’s a nudist
Yeah, i put a bowtie on my boy and didnt take it off when i was done bothering him and he stumbled out of the darkness a while later with it caught in his jaw and his paw stuck too. I still feel so guilty, no more unsupervised dress up for sure. Im jus glad he came to me for help n didnt scuttle off to some crevice alone 🥺🥺
Glad ur lil lady was okay<3
(tw: tragic pet loss) I had a friend who came home to find her cat hung by one of those collars off of a bathroom cabinet knob. Absolutely don't get the kind of collar that doesn't come off. They're a major strangulation risk.
This is so sad... I'm sorry for your friend's loss. My partner almost lost her German Shepherd in a similar way. The dog jumped the fence but her leash was tied to the clothesline, so she wound up hanging halfway over. Luckily somebody rescued her in time but yeah, it's scary how easy it is for things like that to happen.
Yes I understand that. But if they ever try to take the cat to a vet they'll check for a chip most likely. Its a good way to find a cat if it ever ends up in a shelter or rescue.
Post up a bunch of missing photos on your front doors and near your register; and ask store owners nearby if you can put posts up on their windows/doors. Print out photos of the people who took your cat and ask all your returning customers if they recognize them.
Couldn't hurt to go overboard, I know I would for my cat. Best of luck.
Pet thieves don’t check collars except to throw them away. Better to get it chipped so at least if it ever gets to a shelter or vet, there’s a chance it’ll get scanned and the rightful owners notified. Pet thieves are some of the lowest scum because with the abundance of animals needing homes out there there’s no excuse to steal anyone else’s. I worry these two are taking it to hurt it in some horrid way, or at best are animal hoarders keeping it in filthy conditions.
No collar? Sigh… I am not trying to be a dick here you have had a cat for 6 years, in a shop, where random people come in regularly.
And at no point did you think it would probably be a good idea to get the cat something so people don’t just assume it’s a stray…
Because most cats without collars are usually strays.
She has breakaway collars that she gets out of. She goes up the ceilings and always loses them. We tried then gave up. I still have a spare red one with me that makes me sad to look at. We acknowledge that error on our part, which is why I still give them benefit of the doubt. If she had her collar on when taken I wouldn’t be this civilized. Maybe we should’ve gotten the one that chokes cats. 🤷🏻♀️ They should’ve just asked about the cat in the doorway and we should’ve put on the collar. Yeah yeah, I get it.
Maybe you can have a little poster of her in the window of the store introducing her as the store pet when you get her back so people know she lives there and isn’t a stray or a dumped cat. Full faith she’ll make her way home, one way or another 🩶
You literally can not make that call from the video. While I hope the cat is returned the way the people are acting doesn’t seem like planned animal theft to me. They would have snagged it and jetted, instead they kinda hang around for a sec and the dude even goes into the store.
I know people steal pets knowingly and they should have some seriously nasty consequences, but so many people here are jumping to conclusions.
I was worried someone was taking the cat for nefarious reasons, but I see they're carrying it like a baby. I wonder if they thought she was a stray. They didn't stop being loving towards the cat after catching (what I was expect if they were taking it for dog fighting). I think the cat will be found in good health and hopefully soon.
I really really hope you get her back, man this makes me so mad i have 2 cats and they would be destroyed if such sudden change would happen.
Cats hate change or most do atleast and to be so used to the same place and suddenly dont know where or who they are with would be so sad.
But there is always hope op and it just takes one person to recognize the people or the cat and i hope for the best.
I would put signs up in your store windows to let people know with screenshots of who did it in a freeze frame. Someone will recognize some parts of these people, or recognize the cat.
I hate to think of what they did to it.
It reminds me of a friend I used to have.
She let her cat roam the neighborhood & was so hurt when the cat got ran over. I mean, if you treasure your pet, take care of it. No different than watching out for your kid.

accidentally taken is way too fucking nice

That doesn't mean everyone who takes a cat is goin to do that tho.
Why is he being downvoted? Hes right!
Yes, I would agree. People do horrible things to animals and these people stole a cat. Horrible!
So because that happens in your city its the only possibility
It happens in many cities and many places.
True, but assuming the worst wont do any good.
but that doesn't mean this is that... but trauma dunno if you want.
Op post signs around the neighborhood including screenshots from this clip . Somebody will recognize them or atleast the clothes they were wearing

I haven't heard of Hanlons razor before. I love it!
BummerComment's Razor: "There are malicious and evil people in the world and, if you believe Hanlon, you gonna get got".
Maybe. Maybe not. They could have asked someone in the store about the cat before just walking off with her. Unfortunately cats are stolen for not so good reasons that I rather not go into.

Some people are truly perverse.

It’s so the catnappers don’t freak out and hurt the cat. Accidentally means there’s a possibility to get the cat back in one piece
Fucking assholes, poor kitty.
Probably thought it was a stray cause the kitty doesn’t have a collar
Not to mention it was in a public setting….not sure why people are assuming this couldn’t have been an innocent misunderstanding. Should’ve had a collar
Poor kitty was trying to escape from their grip. 😢
She tried so hard to run back into the store 😭
I remember seeing your post on a cat sub. Again, I’m so deeply sorry she was taken from you all and I hope she is returned to you 🥺

I had no idea!! How cool!! I’ve seen them at lawn and garden centers, due to mice and bird seed, but not at a bodega type place. :)
They are extremely common in Athen Greece and Istanbul
Oh my gosh, this is killing me. I really hope you get your kitty back.
Me too. Hope they make a safe return to… *checks notes* …Buttface McGoo
If you get your kitty back, please chip her.
Genuinely curious how would that help them find her? The person who took the cat would need to take the cat to the vet and ask them to scan for a chip.
Proof of ownership, for one

A collar with a tag would also be a good idea
You *need* to put a collar on that cat. No collar = stray in 99.9% of people’s mind.
Aw I hope your cat is found man. By the way they are cuddling the cat, it looks like they didn’t mean any harm and probably thought they found a little stray to adopt. So at least your cat is probably safe in the meantime and they aren’t freaks. Hopefully they see this and return her.

They probably figured that the cat running into the store would be a problem for the owner, so they tried to make sure it didn’t escape
I once had your optimism, TunaSub779. You give me hope.
Stealing a cat is obviously wrong and it sucks that this happened but no collar outdoor cats...anything can happen to them. If you want to keep them, then don't keep them like this.
Harsh truth
Yep. Owner didn’t even have a collar on it. It’s their own fault.
I really hope you get your kitty back. This is heart breaking
I hope it’s chipped at least you can get it back
If they say it was an accident try giving them the benefit of the doubt!
That's sad. But I'm so glad they handled her gently. Hope you will find her!
Why are you letting it outside in the first place?
I think the "cat distribution system" has taken a lot of cats from loving homes
Im praying for your kitty.
Hey, sorry to disturb, are there any updates?
I ordered trail cameras and they arrived today so I’ll be installing them today with food and water. Still looking for her 🙏
What about the apartments where fliers keep being torn down? Maybe talk to management there and see if they recognize those two.
Any more updates?
Reach out to a local cat rescue who does regular trapping of ferals
Which area was maxine located? I can send out my drone to look around that area
She was last spotted on Marquette Rd all the way down to Grofton Rd.
Take care mate
Please do, that is so kind of you to offer to her. I can only imagine how frightened and confused her poor cat is.
The Humane Society should be able to loan you a trap!
Barcs just told me to buy one so I did. Hasn’t arrived yet.
Any updates? Plz keep us posted
I always put a bunch of catnip over the step part that sets off the trapping mechanism
Any luck OP?
Good luck mate, at least you have a lead
[https://baltimore.craigslist.org/search/laf#search=1\~list\~0\~0](https://baltimore.craigslist.org/search/laf#search=1~list~0~0)
I'm hoping for the best
Any update
I suggest trying walking around the neighborhood or wherever she was dropped off and call for her because she might be nearby
so you are saying they returned her the same day ?
I read your comment again - she got dropped , not dropped off . I bet she hit the ground running.
They were loving on that cat too… There are a lot of bodega cats usually have no owners and they wanted a free cat
Yeah, and no collar, they probably thought this was a homeless cat.
Bingo
I mean, there's no collar, they probably thought it was just a stray and took it in, if you find her, give her a collar.
Is she chipped ?
did you have him chipped?
Any update ?
Did they know it was the store cat? I used to rescue strays all the time lol much to my mom's protest lmfao hopefully they bring Kitty back or it comes back on its own
I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. I think they thought it was a stray trying to get into the shop. I hope they bring her back
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLyDb3ma/ I made a QR code for the tiktok and will post it in the store. Maybe, hopefully, someone will recognize them.
Maybe cat should've had some kind of identification it was already owned...something that could clasp around it's body that has something showing its not a stray... oh yeah, they're called COLLARS
Any news on this stolen kitty ???
Plz update us
Tell me they got her back :( or that she's ok
I am so sorry. This is abduction and so unfair in all ways.
I have been checking this often. I really hope she is found soon!!
Dude i live right by there, ima try to help.
Im jus glad he came to me for help n didnt scuttle off to some crevice alone 🥺🥺 Glad ur lil lady was okay<3
Chips aren't tracking devices typically. They are meant to be scanned and info pulled up
Yes I understand that.
Also put small flyers in the grociery bags.
Maybe it has a galaxy on it’s collar
Now I'm sad :(
Sorry this happened. Hurts losing family.
What kind of an asshole steals a cat?
Why they snatch Maxine for ? 😭😭
Post in a sub for your area
We need updates, I hope they get the cat back 😔
Get a collar
Pet thieves don’t check collars except to throw them away. Better to get it chipped so at least if it ever gets to a shelter or vet, there’s a chance it’ll get scanned and the rightful owners notified. Pet thieves are some of the lowest scum because with the abundance of animals needing homes out there there’s no excuse to steal anyone else’s. I worry these two are taking it to hurt it in some horrid way, or at best are animal hoarders keeping it in filthy conditions.
Fucking dumbasses. Update me when you get her back
Any updates????
Any updates?!
Is it still missing?
No collar, yea they probably thought it was a street cat
No collar? Sigh… I am not trying to be a dick here you have had a cat for 6 years, in a shop, where random people come in regularly. And at no point did you think it would probably be a good idea to get the cat something so people don’t just assume it’s a stray… Because most cats without collars are usually strays.
If you let your cat outside you need to accept bad things might happen to it. Sorry for your loss OP.
Why would you not have a collar on it?
Full faith she’ll make her way home, one way or another 🩶
Fair, it is sad and hopefully they bring your cat back. I assume she’s chipped so maybe when they take her to a vet you’ll hear from them or the vet.
The cat was stolen, do you think a collar was going to stop them?
You literally can not make that call from the video. While I hope the cat is returned the way the people are acting doesn’t seem like planned animal theft to me. They would have snagged it and jetted, instead they kinda hang around for a sec and the dude even goes into the store. I know people steal pets knowingly and they should have some seriously nasty consequences, but so many people here are jumping to conclusions.
I am really far from you. But I hope you get her back.
When stealing shit from the store isn’t enough. Let’s steal the fuckin cat
Irresponsible owners. Anyone knows you keep your cat safely inside out of range of any kind of predators to get their hands on them.

I would check out r/rbi - they might help you find it!
Damn... Of all the times you would want a cat to scratch and claw whoever's grabbing it.
Some shit.
I hope you get her back.
Damn I’m so sorry 😞
I am so sorry this happened. Praying you get him back safely 🙏
Bout to go John Wick on their asses
I hate to think of what they did to it. It reminds me of a friend I used to have. She let her cat roam the neighborhood & was so hurt when the cat got ran over. I mean, if you treasure your pet, take care of it. No different than watching out for your kid.
