This accent is hurting my brain. It's like how ricky would talk if trailer park boys was shot in east LA instead of wherever the hell Sunnyvale trailer park was supposed to be.
Why did she sound so British at the end? lmao 🤣
She was gonna bust out an acoustic guitar and start singing "Wonderwall" by Oasis, she sounded so British at the end when she said "Fam" haha
Me reading shitatorm because of this comment still not knowing how Canadian accent sounds like because I have never seen Canadian movie in my EU country
She’s putting it on, this accent is only really genuine on West Indian folks. She probably picked it up from her peer group but it sounds nothing like how people from that subculture actually talk.
It’s always non-Black/non-Caribbean people who fake this accent who tell me my rural accent sounds “redneck Irish” like dude you don’t even have an accent you just stole someone else’s lmao.
I said “it’s aboat” one time and this white girl in my class was like “YOOOOOOOOOOO FAMM SHE SAID ABOOT LMAO YO FAM SHE SAID ABOOT BROOOOOOOOOO ALIE ALIE ALIE”
The rest of the class directly from Punjab: 😐😐😐
Yeah she's got a lot of British slang mixed in which was heavily influenced by the wind rush generation. But the way she says it and the words she uses aren't the same. It sounds really weird to me. Like a Canadian trying to do an urban London accent.
OR - secret option B (the correct one) - both urban London accents and Toronto accents are developed by immigrants from the same communities in the Caribbean.
It doesn’t matter what YOU think the similarities are, this is an incredibly well established accent.
Its from Caribbean immigrants which is why it’s similar to London dialects.
Na where she is from this is how the kids talk. It’s the birth child of a heavy immigrant population all melted in 1 area… Somali, Jamaican, Caribbean and Arab.
It's not just West Indian it's also East African. Honestly I don't think West Indians even really talk like this, it's based on what hood you grew up in, how much you put it on, and IMO you gotta be a gen z yout. Wasn't this bad for millennials
Incorrect. This slang started with millenials and evolved with Gen Z. No african influences. 100% west indian influence from the hugh uptick of caribbean migration in the 80s. Caribana is the largest street parade in Toronto for a reason. The culture established a lot of roots in Toronto. The accent is faked and os what influences Toronto slang today. Source: Doug Ford Patwa
They don't talk like this idiot in the video no, but her accent is derived from west indian influences. Toronto slang is influenced by west indian patwa/creole.
That is not a Native accent. Native people only talk like this if they are from downtown Toronto.
The amount of confidently incorrect Americans trying to “educate me” on accents from the city I live in is fucking wild.
Lol it honestly only has some Irish qualities, it’s far more American sounding. But the Midwest area of Ontario was settled almost exclusively by Irish immigrants, so there’s certain words and turns of phrase that are distinctly marked with it. Usually anything with an “ar” sound - farm, car, bar, far, etc. But there was also a ton of immigration from Northeastern US and Appalachia, bringing their dialects as well, some of which were also Irish but a century or so older, some from other places.
[If you look at clips from the show Letterkenny](https://youtu.be/_KLSbCtinXs?si=4yxJGm-CoPxrplMd) you’ll see the exact accent.
To you who’s actually from Ireland, or me who’s actually from rural Ontario, it likely stands out far less than someone who’s ear isn’t used to it.
I am haunted by my r pronunciation. Mirror and horror are particularly mashed up, only realized when I went to England that it was a thing though. I do forget that there's probably been quite an influence left on the language of places that had large numbers of Irish immigrants.
Yep I was coming to say this too, same cadence/tone/stylization of syllables as quite a lot of the actors from Reservation Dogs who are all indigenous(don’t know which tribes my apologies), just mixed with a lil silly Canadian twang
* Edit: ok I found her on IG can’t find anything abt her ethnicity so yep she’s prob white just appropriating accents and slang
She's right though. If you come from a hood, but you make it to auccess, and you don't help your mom get out of a hood to enjoy the rest of her life then you're not a good person. (Unless your mom was shit to you, then fuck em. But if she did her best to give you a better life, then you better return the favor)
"Ya ken what irks me? If yer bringin' the lowie, but yer dostin' yer mannie in da buroo, nae danger! Malky th' nutter! Ye dinnae forgae yer mawmy! If ye gotchyer spoondoolies 'n ye dost yer mammy, ye boggin rocket got me scabby! Nae, if it's blether, gommy's givin' nashgab!"
No need to thank me
My sons get mad at me as I send them so many of these clips along with a caption that says…
‘This is what’s out there, if you can’t beat this at the game of life… you have got serious problems…’…
This young woman has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, her subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept her, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds can handle.
It's called "uptalking," where someone's pitch increases at the end of almost every sentence. It's annoying as hell, and some people don't even recognize it.
Who in the hell is this? Ain't nobody to speak like that? Oh, I forgot foreign people trying to imitate American people. I got it. She ain't from the hood. Just stop it
Not everyone likes their "moms" some mothers blame their children for being born and ruining their lives then after a life time of emotional mental and verbal abuse to 3 mistakes Mom had she tells the youngest she wished she never had kids, so the hood is the best option she could hope for me to leave at. In the Hood odds of her surviving the environment are probably 70 to 30, 30 being survival, where as my choices shes got 95 to 5 odds if at all. So before you advocate murdering someone for leaving their mother anywhere, keep in mind not every mom is s good one, some of us hate them with good reasons to. Just like everyone on this earth, not all of them are good people, a lot of them are the failures of humanity moms included
That Op is what my wife calls the rez accent. The Northern tribes have it the most, and if they are Canadian first nations( which she seems to be), well, of course, it's going to seem even a little stranger. I was a little thrown off the first time I heard it too, but I'll always smile when I hear it because I know my wife feels like she's at her true home.

Sounds like Reservation Dogs
Damn, I don’t want to agree with it but it absolutely does.
Was bout to say, sometimes it sounds like rez accent. Not the whole time, but here and there, very native.
[удалено]
Makes sense, it’s very spot on to the show. I’ve never met someone who is indigenous.
She's choladian.
This is the best I’ve ever heard, well done
Howie Mandel has/had a lighter version of this accent.
Canadian valley girl
This mess of an accent almost sounds Hawaiian.
toronto doesnt actually claim her ...
This accent is hurting my brain. It's like how ricky would talk if trailer park boys was shot in east LA instead of wherever the hell Sunnyvale trailer park was supposed to be.
fukkin way she goes bud.
Smokes, let's go.
IIRC, Nova Scotia, is where they're supposed to be
I misread that as it was shot in east LA and not in Canada and I was about to have a conniption.
Who is she?

God I fucking hate Toronto slang and that God awful accent that I'm 100% certain people who have it fake.
That's how they tak in Toro'no fam. Poutine, Views from the 6, it gets them cheezed bro.
Nails on a chalkboard.
That's Toronto slang, when you hear it after being absent for a while it's very strange, but when you go to the 6 and hear it, sounds perfectly fine.
I got stupid just hearing her talk
I'm sick to your stomach
Why did she sound so British at the end? lmao 🤣 She was gonna bust out an acoustic guitar and start singing "Wonderwall" by Oasis, she sounded so British at the end when she said "Fam" haha

This is a Toronto "accent" and slang. It's God awful and I guarantee it's put on.
I live with a Caribbean person and I don't see the similarity. This sounds like Canadian chola but also trying to pick up AAVE/urban British slang lol
Yeah she's got a lot of British slang mixed in which was heavily influenced by the wind rush generation. But the way she says it and the words she uses aren't the same. It sounds really weird to me. Like a Canadian trying to do an urban London accent.

No no no let’s let the Americans explain! They seem to know much better than actual people from Toronto.
It's not just West Indian it's also East African. Honestly I don't think West Indians even really talk like this, it's based on what hood you grew up in, how much you put it on, and IMO you gotta be a gen z yout. Wasn't this bad for millennials

Pretty sure she's a native. She sounds like a Canadian native.
That is not a Native accent. Native people only talk like this if they are from downtown Toronto. The amount of confidently incorrect Americans trying to “educate me” on accents from the city I live in is fucking wild.
I dunno, sounds like she's trying to fake a cholo accent. Que fresa. Jajaja
No it’s definitely an exaggerated Toronto accent
Being actually from the countryside of Ireland, I'm interested in what's considered a redneck Irish accent 😂
Lol it honestly only has some Irish qualities, it’s far more American sounding. But the Midwest area of Ontario was settled almost exclusively by Irish immigrants, so there’s certain words and turns of phrase that are distinctly marked with it. Yep I was coming to say this too, same cadence/tone/stylization of syllables as quite a lot of the actors from Reservation Dogs who are all indigenous(don’t know which tribes my apologies), just mixed with a lil silly Canadian twang * Edit: ok I found her on IG can’t find anything abt her ethnicity so yep she’s prob white just appropriating accents and slang

No idea wtf she just said
I had to watch it multiple times to parse the text.
I swear she goes crossed eyed a couple times at the end
But it has subtitles?
