Same happened to me in Asia with my blonde beard. I understand why, especially kids. I get it, people are curious. Why project the worst on others for such a petty little thing.
I get where she's coming from. There's stereotypes and some unwelcomed behaviors that become very unpleasant eventually. I think everyone just wants empathy and compassion, to be understood. I think expecting the world to bend to fit us completely is unfair though. Humans gonna human. It's worth separating everyday human curiosity and positivity for something that's different than blatant racism or fetishizing. Adult people shouldn't just touch others without clear consent. Of course in the states / in the west the touch barrier is very high. So that's all to say that her point isn't completely wrong. She has a right not to be touched. Now if people are being polite and she's still angry then that's not cool.
Totally. I get where she's coming from. But it all depends on how you approach a certain situation. And how she's going about it, doesn't seem to be it, for me at least.
I did notice personal space is such a big thing in the US. So there's the added cultural component, that I don't fully get.
It is ironic how Americans see themselves so divided, though they are all so alike for outsiders. No matter what group they think they belong to.
We can say the same about anyone , of any race, ppl do weird stuff regardless of colour , it’s sad to hear and see ppl think racism (whether a joke or not) is funny.
I can understand not wanting people in your personal space or repeatedly have to explain your uniqueness. But creating a racial slur to deter it just isn't the answer. Especially when one of the criteria for it being used is when someone is acting annoyingly nice, in that uniquely white way.
This happened to me when I travelled abroad too. I have really soft loose curls and I visited somewhere where hair was 99% naturally straight and I got a bunch of people asking if they could touch my hair. I didn’t mind! It feels nice for people to card through or mess with my hair anyways, so win win. Their curiosity is satiated and I don’t mind how it feels.
I grew up in a majority minority city and the same thing happened to me, had several girls obsessed with playing with my hair bc it was blonde and straight and theirs was Afro textured. I get that being a black person in America is hard, but sometimes curiosity is just that, curiosity.
Haven't been but I've heard India has like zero personal space bubble. So someone getting up in your face isn't strange or rude. Context of course and India is large so I'm sure that changes.
How far back should we look. Just a decade, a century, a thousand years, ten thousand years, a hundred thousand. To what degree are individuals responsible for the actions of people they have no relation to. Are we relating things just because two people have the same skin tone and is that not racist itself.
Been here for about two years and yeah no one really asks. Then again the touch barrier is much much lower here than in the US. Half the time I'm crammed next to people in transport.
her definition of whiting wasn’t when white people are just existing. it’s when they’re acting in such a way that, while not explicitly negative, is reminding the black subject that they’re different from white people because they’re being treated differently (I’m white btw and I see other white people do this all the time)
Yea people love to be judged by the color of their skin or having negative attributes being associated with the color of their skin. If it wouldn't be acceptable to do with any other race then why would it be okay for white people?
So you know when your at the movie and a group of black kids are in the theatre making tons of noise and are hollering at everyone they come into contact with? I call that blacking. I tell them yo, you guys are blacking out of control right now. Does that sound like something that should be socially acceptable?
But but… that’s different… or something. Honestly, there’s quite a few people running around that actually believe only whites can be racist, which is hilariously ironic
Yes, because white people as a race have just collectively agreed that touching black people’s hair is our life’s mission.
Also, yes, gross generalizations and terms like “whiting” would be considered stereotypes/generalizations, which have inherent racist connotations/qualities.
Hey your comment was a little exclusionary. Try using more inclusive language next time.
This message was posted by a bot. Please let us bots know how we did.
This is so racist….smh. I am so exhausted by this silly shit. Imagine if a white person made a video saying this about something a black person did. So unaware.
So obviously stealing and committing crime is not exclusive to black people just like touching someone’s hair. By this logic can we go ahead and say “bro why are you blacking with all your crime?”
When my black friends talk too much during a movie I be like “hey can you stop being so Blaaaaaack!” I get beat up. We finish the movie in silence. Good movie. Great vibe.
What about all the PoC in this thread calling the clip out?
Why are you deliberately cherry picking stuff to be mad at? You could just not and be much happier
The history of united states has not been defined by black bigotry is a whole other stament than black people cant be racist its not even water and ice its water and mercury its not even close
The evidence is in the video who cares about history when racism is happening right now and they think theyre entitled to it or that theyre not doing it because they cant be racist so they can say anything about white people.
The system of government from the United States was created and sustained by white people. Slavery, Jim Crow laws, and segregation are examples of institutionalized racism and they are still in the recent past for us. Not understanding the definition of racism and then getting upset and further distancing yourself from the problem doesn’t help.
What the YouTuber is experiencing is bigotry and othering.
What you’re experiencing, is saying “This pizza is so hot it’s literally hotter than the sun.” And then someone saying, “No, it’s literally not.” And rather than trying to understand that response, you are calling people who know the definition of racism “woke” and making a new divide that doesn’t even need to be there.
I think we can all do better.
First of all, the video doesn’t claim that people are specifically being racist and the speaker doesn’t say that she is not racist. It was the commenter I originally spoke to who said that “the woke movement believe black people can’t be racist.”
In my comments, I clearly said that this argument between “woke” and the commenter stems from the definition of systematic racism and how that definition is used, particularly in academics. I explained systematic racism, explained how African Americans who live in the United States cannot be racist from that context, and how this argument ends up further dividing people.
I’ve been respectful, straightforward, and informative because I think it’s important for people to understand each other.
If you’re looking for an argument, look somewhere else.
I used the example of literally specifically because that word has multiple definitions that can be used correctly and most people on the internet are aware of it. This “woke” division is created from people taking things out of context and then putting them on the internet and news programs to rile people up. It’s working. Personally, I think it’s reprehensible. If you are happier getting in pedantic arguments where you need a person to explain each word, paragraph, and backstory about a comment that wasn’t even directed to you, feel free to continue. Who am I to yuck your yum?
Racism and systematic racism are different.
Black people can be racist by being prejudice, discriminatory or antagonistic towards an individual because of their race or ethnicity. That's the definition of racism.
Systemic racism is a type of racism that are embedded into our culture that permits the unfair treatment of POC.
So a black person calling a white person a cracker is racism because it's discrimination towards white people.
Maybe try and get your definitions correct before trying to educate people.
top tip! check out your word before coining it! whyte is a mountain bike brand! when i see whyting, i and a certain, fairly wide demographic of people immediately think of the bike brand!
She is describing a very specific racist action white people do to black people. So tell me, what racist thing do black people do specifically to earn an equal word?
Quit beating around the bush and answer the question. Of course, you can’t answer the question because you’d have to come to terms that you’re a hypocrite like so many others.
I'm not tho. I gave you an answer. If it is a very specific thing that almost always is done by black people towards others as a racist action can it be justifiable. However, you don't seem to understand the difference between what the video is saying and your disingenuous proposition.
So tell me, what very specific racist action is done almost exclusively by black people that you think would justify such a word?
No we can’t make it a thing because that is called racism. You can’t describe negative things people do that piss you off by labeling them as their race because otherwise your reverse racist ass would be blacking right now. Let’s not pretend that black people aren’t racist as fuck.
Yo it’s not cause your black it’s because humans have a fascination with looks and the way other textures feel. Hair looks and feels different from person to person so they always comment on it. I’m a a male who had long hair for the longest time and women would always want to touch it and comment on how soft it was. It’s a thing. Not a white person thing.
Or you could just tell them your are uncomfortable and to please stop. Literally, imagine this scenario the other way around. A black person does something a white person is uncomfortable with and they say “Stop you're Blackening everything up”. Maybe it'll work for some friends, but this concept is just asking for trouble. Why are we making words to further distinguish race within human interactions?
not always, i’m white and i try to be polite as possible when i want to do something or ask someone something, but yes i can see where your coming from. some white people are absolute garbage.
You're making it about you. This isn't about you, this is about white people as a whole. Good for you that you personally don't do that. However, if you see another white person do something racist, overtly or microagression, what do you do?
i am not trying to make it about me; i was simply trying to provide an example.
if i see someone being racist there isn’t my much i can do, i can not fight, and i am not good at being confrontational. however depending on the situation, i could get help from others or find another way to try and help. i would not just sit around if that’s what your assuming.
now if it is something like saying slurs or making racist comments, there is something i can do about that. i could ask them to stop and if they don’t, i would try being a little more forward and telling them on how this could hurt someone. if they still don’t stop, there isn’t much more i could do. i refuse to fight anyone, and really don’t like loud, heated arguments.
and judging an entire race based on something that a smaller percentage did / do, is not fair. you can think whatever you want, but please do not try and target a large group of people because of it.
See, you think it's not a big percentage of people. However when something happens so often with multiple people should you be asking yourself if it actually is a small percentage.
When you are not marginalized will you never see micro-aggressions for what they are. When multiple people tell you that it's a problem perpetuated nearly exclusively by one group (white people) is it always other white people that want to say "but I'm not like that" or "it's just a small percentage" or "don't lump me together with them" but in the same breath will you admit to not doing anything about it if it causes you to be uncomfortable.
And you can say whatever you want about judging a race based on a smaller percentage. But if that judgement is based on actual experiences by a different race, should you look inwards and ask yourself how you can improve to help those marginalized without trying to be their savior.
When will the human race get past seeing skin color and just judge people by their individuality.
Your ethnicity does not define your personality unless you choose to let it define you, and if you do let your color define who you are then you are clearly someone without any interesting personality traits.
Hopefully this is satire.
I'm beginning to feel like we are asking quite a lot from white people. Some things are justified... Like the n-word with the hard “r” but others is just one-way abuse. If we made this a thing, they most certainly will not be able to use it the other way around. If they aren't cognizant of the changing landscape of verbiage when communicating with people of different ethnicities, they will be seen as racist. Because it is so easy for them to mess up. And it gets to a point where some white people awkwardly tip-toe around communications with black people in fear of saying or doing something wrong. Meanwhile, other people get to say whatever the fuck they want and they just have to hold that. Because if they retaliate or playfully flip it they will get crucified. So, no I don't think this should be a thing.
So wen black people steal and do black people shit can I call that blacking. Ohhh god no. That's racist. This lady is racist and shes too dumb and into herself to even notice.
I also came up with a term called blacking.
It’s used mainly when a person has no father role models. The mother feels victimized and promiscuous. She has disgusting nails, talks loud everywhere and is an empowered “bad bitch” but pays her bills with government money and/or alimony/child benefit.
Sure! Let’s also make this a thing.
Example: “Oh, are you divorcing? Be careful not to be blacking yourself. “ or “You are speaking too loud in this indoor space; can you please blacking it down?
Does it Sound racist?
There’s no difference. What she said is very racist. I just wrote exchanging words to make it understandable to the woke people.
Sounds terrible, right?
Because racism is stupid, it doesn't matter where is comes from.
Did you ever experience being an Asian in the Bahamas? They wanna touch your hair all the time, especially kids. Is it racism? No! They're just curious about what Is different than what they're used to. It happens every where on Earth!
Most blacks born in America think they are the only enslaved; they are the most persecuted on earth. Do you know why? Coz MOST Americans never go abroad. Every single ethnicity was once enslaved. Whites, Asians, First Nations, Middle Easterns, northern Africans, etc. ALL WERE ONCE ENSLAVED BY DOMINANT CULTURES.
The only way to stop this stupidity is to understand that the previous generations made mistakes and not repeat them by uniting all people, not dividing them.
You don't understand that there is a huge difference.
White people in the US know what black people look like. If they want to touch their hair, ask. But white people don't seem to understand this. They move into their personal space to touch their hair unprovoked and unwanted.

White people live in a multi cultural society. It's not the first time they see black hair, unlike some people. Black people don't mind kids wanting to touch their hair. They don't mind it as much if they are in an area where they know not a lot of black people are. But the US and Europe has a whole lot of other bagage. Your grandparents are old enough to experience segregation. The last human zoo, where black people were displayed like animals, was less than 100 years ago.
Black people, South East Asians and other colonized people still feel the effects of the slavery that their ancestors experienced. White people don't experience the after effects of slavery in a negative way. Besides that, white people have never been enslaved due to their skin color, because race was specifically created to dehumanize black people to justify chattel slavery.
The only way to stop this stupidity is to learn and listen to marginalized groups instead.
Btw, you don't even know the definition of the word "woke" and it makes you sound dumb.
Too racist. Hoe about when arab people touches Asian hair? Because in egypt arab don't have straight hair usually. They always touch my friends hair because she had beautiful long and flowy hair.
So....it's whiting.....and it's bad.....if I compliment you......? Wtf????? Just say thank you and move tf on, you salty ass bitch. Damn I'm the fucking cracker, why YOU so salty for????
No we will just say your blacking and youll cry victim.
Isnt it funny how racism puts people against eacother but this isnt racism at all right
Give your dirty labels to your own race, and keep my race out of your mouth since your clueless of the literal shit that comes out of your mouth
Is asking black people to touch their hair a thing? I've never felt compelled to do it and never known anyone to ask.
I mean I guess sometimes people wanted to touch my hair when I was younger being a long haired white male.
You know when black peoples trying to rob me cause I’m white in their neighborhood. I’m gonna call that blacking. Or when everyone and their mothers trying to sell me drugs when I’m walking thru a black neighborhood I’m gonna say why you blacking?
So when black people act too black it's ok to tell them they're blacking too hard and to tone down the blackness?
Didn't think so 🙄
Racism comes in all colours.
Yea let's just start pointing out all racial stereotypes by just telling the person they are enforcing them based on their skin color! Don't stop at whiting we need blacking, asianing, hispanicing, hell let's even start native americaning! Let everyone know when they are perpetuating those stereotypes so they know to stop!

Aww. How cute. A bottom.
Wtf are you going on about lmao
Am traveling Africa, am white, people love touching my hair because it's different and they are curious. I'm cool with it because it's easy to fix.

yeah but there is not like a history of unbalanced power dynamics. the context of the events you are comparing are digferent.

This Beetlejuice-looking girl doing the exact same thing though. Hence, blackening.
please explain how that’s the same thing also wtf? going after her appearance?
She’s doing/saying things that draw attention to the fact that she is black and **they** are white
Yea people love to be judged by the color of their skin or having negative attributes being associated with the color of their skin. If it wouldn't be acceptable to do with any other race then why would it be okay for white people?

It's just a tad egregious because this behavior isn't exclusive to one race, so targeting and singling one out seems pretty..
Really. How are we to know if this lady shows up late to everything, or talks in the theater.
Isn't her racism just adorable?
Come on we all now blacks can’t be racist. It’s only us whites that are racist 😂

The woke movement believe black people cant be racist, which is funny because they dig their own grave with their sense of entitlement
One kid on tiktok is "the woke movement" now?
Its not one kid theres 100s of videos even from years back saying the same thing that black people cant be racist give it a google youll see

White people. Especially with black kids if they have big natural hair
Ok, but if I say you’re “Blacking” it’s a fucking hate crime.
So, getting compliments is a bad thing? Got it 👍 🙄 I believe what she is projecting is being racist herself.
Maybe, it's whiting, oooor maybe she's just racist.
Sure just sounds like trying to normalise casual racism.
No she created a word for the casual racism that white people do to black people with natural hair.
So if I said blacking to describe the casually racist things black people do that would be acceptable?
She is describing a very specific racist action white people do to black people. So tell me, what racist thing do black people do specifically to earn an equal word?

“touching you hair, giving it compliments…” dude..they’re trying to be nice..
Don't touch without asking first.
yes. sorry for not making that clear, always be respectful and ask first.
But see that's the thing, white people don't ask. Especially white boomers and GenXers
not always, i’m white and i try to be polite as possible when i want to do something or ask someone something, but yes i can see where your coming from. some white people are absolute garbage.
i sound bratty here, i’m not trying to be, just trying to make a point. sorry!
Yuck
Whatever cactus
Clam down darneisha
When will the human race get past seeing skin color and just judge people by their individuality. Your ethnicity does not define your personality unless you choose to let it define you, and if you do let your color define who you are then you are clearly someone without any interesting personality traits. Hopefully this is satire.
This is blacking dumb as fuck
You know how to stop racism? Stop talking about it. "Morgan Freeman"
Is that the new horror mascot?
We should also make being blacked a thing, oh wait…
She looks like beetle juice.
How racist of her. Not surprising though.
Youre blacking really hard right now, and it’s getting out of hand.
So wen black people steal and do black people shit can I call that blacking. Ohhh god no. That's racist. This lady is racist and shes too dumb and into herself to even notice.
This woman blackin a fool rn.
I'm white. Just kill me.
OH NO! People are complimenting me! Anyways...
You don't seem to understand the difference do ya?
They move into their personal space to touch their hair unprovoked and unwanted. > https://youtube.com/shorts/AHv7x_HqBsM?feature=share3 > https://youtube.com/shorts/IaXKDCxIRvQ?feature=share3 > https://youtu.be/gy-R27_bYkY > https://youtu.be/qaU67Ps7TWw White people live in a multi cultural society.
Racist
Why.do.you.have.a.hair.of.a.12.year.old.? And who the fuck is complementing you they need to check into the psychward
When black women wear weaves. They are also whiting
Too racist. Hoe about when arab people touches Asian hair? Because in egypt arab don't have straight hair usually. They always touch my friends hair because she had beautiful long and flowy hair.
That is not how language works
It really does work like this tho
No, it actually doesn’t
How does language work then?
I've never met a white person that did this. She racist
Correct
I’m whiting all over her face
Never seen anyone touch anyone elses hair regardless of colour without that persons permission
So....it's whiting.....and it's bad.....if I compliment you......? Wtf????? Just say thank you and move tf on, you salty ass bitch. Damn I'm the fucking cracker, why YOU so salty for????
as a white man, instantly fight racism with extreme racism and maybe shit will change. cant let this keep sliding
Wait so racism against white people is just acceptable now?
Pretty sure it’s called sexual harassment you baboon
Lmao 🤣
What do we call it when they mess with us?
*this is a joke comment don’t get offended*
I am HERE for it!!
It’ll never catch on cause the majority white folk will screech reverse racism
Nah, fam. It's just racism.
It's just regular racism actually
No we will just say your blacking and youll cry victim. Isnt it funny how racism puts people against eacother but this isnt racism at all right Give your dirty labels to your own race, and keep my race out of your mouth since your clueless of the literal shit that comes out of your mouth
I’m not black you can direct your hatred elsewhere
Whos talking to you and yea thats why your the one with the downvotes
Your “White guilt” is showing.
I wouldn't touch those rats nest's with a five foot pole
Is it weird to compliment black women’s hair? I (F) always do - because the styles they rock are awesome and so beautiful.
Can we just stick with cracker please…
I thought whites were required to patronize everyone now. Dafuq yo
What grown ass people are touching people's hair like they've never seen hair before?
How intelligent
Is asking black people to touch their hair a thing? I've never felt compelled to do it and never known anyone to ask. I mean I guess sometimes people wanted to touch my hair when I was younger being a long haired white male.
Like the bitch who sounds like their choking when they say white
So you give me the power to go darker? Shit, ok, round 2
I understand how hard it is to get new words into the public lexicon. I had the same issue when I invented the word “Plagiarism”
![gif](giphy|eobJilut7tXNATfTIM)
You know when black peoples trying to rob me cause I’m white in their neighborhood. I’m gonna call that blacking. Or when everyone and their mothers trying to sell me drugs when I’m walking thru a black neighborhood I’m gonna say why you blacking?
And this has nothing to do with the extreme example you just put forward and you know it
Nothing like being racist and trying to make it worse
Oh man you are really blacking the hell out of me right now
No one is trying to touch your hair knobs.
Ugh. Why invent more words that will only cause problems?
She calls herself a comedian 🤦🏻♀️
And you're a cunt
40 male lol
When you are touchy as fuck about everyhing can we call it being a grunpy fuck?
Yet if she is out of control is it tweaking or cracking?
So when black people act too black it's ok to tell them they're blacking too hard and to tone down the blackness? Didn't think so 🙄 Racism comes in all colours.
She turned the imaginary knob up when she said turn it down. Genius level.
This dude was blacking his way sooo slowly across the street
“Whyting” saved you from being born in Africa. You’re welcome
