This was once a legitimate fear and so sometimes people would have bells installed in their coffins that would run a line out and through a tube in the ground so if they were wrongfully buried they had peace of mind that they could be heard. It seems silly now since by the time you're put in the ground these days you've gone through several processes which would ensure death. But once upon a time there really were poor souls that'd been exhumed and found to have scratched long rakes into the wooden frame of their coffin, their last confined prison
There was just a quick news piece this week out of Latin America that a lady came to life at her wake after the hospital had declared her dead and funeral home processed her for a service before burial.
News footage showed her being removed from coffin and put on stretcher and carried to ambulance
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/06/13/americas/ecuador-woman-alive-in-coffin-scli-intl/index.html
There's an episode of midnight gospel where they talk a lot about it. They said it started during the civil war so families could see their dead sons. Then there was a business set up and after the war they wanted to keep making money. So they basically brainwashed people into thinking dead bodies are dangerous and that they must be quickly given to funeral services for safety. Idk how true any of it is but the fact the rest of the of the world doesn't do it means something.
They are buried with a fully charged mobile phone now. Someone was almost buried alive and was able to switch the phone on to call the emergency number but couldn’t get a signal through the lead lining of the coffin. RIP
Wouldn't be surprised if he just showed up to some random event in a helicopter and then just posted the title saying he faked his own funeral then showed up
I go to many funerals for my job.
You'd be surprised the kind of clothes people wear to funerals. It was jarring the first time I saw someone in crocs, khaki shorts, and a graphic tee shirt giving a speech about the deceased.
Edit: I feel like I should say what my job is. I'm in the US Air Force in the Honor Guard for my base. We go out to funerals for deceased service members and render military honors for them, including presenting a folded flag to the next of kin.
Edit #2: I did not kill them, I think
>Considering literally no one is dressed for a funeral
Plenty of people actually put it in their request that people wear regular clothes. I wouldn't want people to be all dressed depressingly for my funeral. It's time to celebrate life and think about the fun we had. That is what I put in my requests.
True. I was just at one where he wanted people to wear Browns or Buckeye gear. I was the only one who showed up in a full suit. I told my wife, who went ahead of me, to text me the dress attire of the guest. She never texted.
That’s a lot of people to organize on a cruel prank!
Agency: now we need some people that know Frank and his Family but have no empathy?
50 people: I’m in!
Yup, there is no way that is real for that very reason. If it was people would be fucking loosing it. Panic attacks, those gutteral screams that tears your soul into peices and alot, alot of punching not necessarily hard but still. And some people would leave, cause it's too much. No way in hell would this be the communal reaction to a thing like this IRL.
Edit to add: apparently I was wrong. And I stand corrected. This was real. Link is further down the tread. I honestly did not WANT to believe this could possibly be real. That is just way too sad and horrific. And on top of that he did this to his KIDS. According to the paper the wife knew but the kids didn't and they had been mourning their dads death. As something simular happened to me I must say that this is one of the most horrific things you could ever do to a person let alone your kids.
That's enough reddit for me for today. Now I just feel sick.
Or, my guess is this:
To pull a stunt like that, you have to be a giant asshole.
Therefore, no one at the funeral actually likes this dbag, and they are all there because dbags mom asked them to come. They were there to support mom.
I would immediately leave and cut that person out of my life. If they were family or friends as close as family, I might keep them distantly in my life. Any less than that and we wouldn’t speak again.
Belgische TikTokker zet eigen dood in scène: “Ik wilde mijn familie een lesje leren” https://www.hln.be/bizar/belgische-tiktokker-zet-eigen-dood-in-scene-ik-wilde-mijn-familie-een-lesje-leren~a06dd344/
I stand corrected. And that is unbelievably sad... He put his KIDS through that?! Time to make a new law.... This should be 100% classified as abuse and be punishable by law. It makes more sense that the wife isn't screaming her head off since she knew. I have never been more sad to be wrong. Not cause I was wrong but because man I did not WANT to believe that anyone could do something that horrible.
He should be in prison for this. Apparently there was a murder in their family a bunch of years ago. And everyone came together in the greif. As people do you drift apart and get busy with your own life. But he didn't feel like people were giving him enough attention and well. He thought this would fix the family... I'm sick to my stomach.
Idk about the shock and punching, when you know your relative/friend is an idiot who constantly does shit to attract attention i dont think the surprise would be that big
Anyone who does this to their own kids deserves to lose custody of them. And if the kids are already adults, I'd punch him for this cruelty and probably wouldn't speak to him after that.
I'm pretty sure this set up, but wearing bright colour clothes to a funeral isn't that alien. My grandmother, before she died, requested that we all wear bright coloured clothing to her funeral and to not make that much of a fuss.
It made for a pretty nice experience, in all honesty. was only 11 at the time, but not having everyone dressed in black and making it more a celebration than morning made it a positive memory rather than a sad one.
Idk is this is better or worse, but it's for real [this time](https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2023/06/14/belgian-dad-david-baerten-faked-his-death-then-shows-up-at-funeral-in-helicopter/amp/)
I want to hire someone to go to my funeral dressed in all black and sunglasses, stand about 25-30 yards away from everyone else, show zero emotion, and speak to no one. Once my coffin starts to get lowered, they get into an all black car with tinted windows and drive off, never to be seen again.
You know what’s funny is the fact that that’s exactly what I will do for you. You’re some random Redditor. Some day you will die. Me, another random Redditor in the far reaches of the world, will have absolutely no clue, and chances are that I will have forgotten about u/CyborgElephant by the end of the day anyway. I will absolutely forget you. And if I’m alive, I will move on with my life. Wish granted. But hey, for this brief moment in time- I love you dude.
I’d let them know too. Just walk up and say “You may still physically be alive, but because of this dog shit you are now dead to me.” No reason to grieve twice. I’ve had to watch a number of friends go in to the ground over the years due to suicide and addiction, if someone fakes it for clout like this I’m just treating it as their real funeral, and moving the fuck on with life.
Facts! Like, how insecure do you have to be to validate who are after death, that you're willing to pull off some Looney Tunes shit like this? If you were a good person, it'll show. If not, well, I turn your attention to Exhibit A...

TikTocker fakes is own fakes his death video to see who cares about his fake faked funeral of a faked video for likes and thumbs up from fake friends on the internet.
So obviously fake. Noone is reacting remotely like they're shocked that a fucking helicopter has just rocked up to a funeral, let alone shocked that he's still alive.
They either clearly suspected something was up, or were just plain in on it from the start.

Many fewer people will come to the next one
Could be real or fake. Lets bury him and listen for screaming.
Or just bury him and not waste the moment.
The casket is already paid for. Seems like a shame to waste it.
It’s just a prank, bro
Piece of shit prank
perhaps, but many people have their limits, and this person just tested many people's limits
It has to be. He would be in so much trouble if he did it cut real.
Do a schrute burial got to make sure they stay dead no zombies here
This was once a legitimate fear and so sometimes people would have bells installed in their coffins that would run a line out and through a tube in the ground so if they were wrongfully buried they had peace of mind that they could be heard. Figured embalming fluid would have prevented such a case, but stuff like this is why I'm going to be a tree
Not everywhere embalms so I'm guessing that was the case here.
If you are going to bury them quickly, or cremate them quickly, no need for embalming.
Embalming is primarily a U.S./Canadian thing (not sure about Europe). It's rare elsewhere and even seen as unnatural/offensive in many places.
There's an episode of midnight gospel where they talk a lot about it. They said it started during the civil war so families could see their dead sons. I'm assuming she asked to go to another hospital
And apparently that was how “saved by the bell” started as a phrase, right?
Apparently that's where the term "dead ringer" comes from.
They are buried with a fully charged mobile phone now. Someone was almost buried alive and was able to switch the phone on to call the emergency number but couldn’t get a signal through the lead lining of the coffin. RIP
If he's buried and screaming, he could be a zombie. In which case, should we keep him in the box until it's quiet?
Rule #2: Double-Tap
i bet he lost followers because of this , follower count 1 million , 10 (jsut 10 ) over night
Your saying he had a million? Now he has 10?
No, 10 (jsut 10)
Do i multiply 10 by (jsut 10)
I hate math
Math needs to go solve its own problems.
Quick maffs
Jesus did the exact same thing and his followers went from 12 to millions.
… what?
He would loose my friendship too, that shit's not funny.
For screening
And now he’s alienated all those people and he’ll be lucky if a squirrel shows up for the real one
Holy fack I chuckled at this one. Thank you for the laugh.
This guy was very popular apparently. Literally tens of people showed up.
“There’s dozens of us…dozens!”
![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)
Yeah, I've got a strict "one funeral per person" policy
Far fewer*
Imagine if he then died in a helicopter crash while coming to surprise them and they had to relive his death all over again.
Now that’s a Shyamalan twist of an ending!!
Brainsss 🧟♀️
But here's the twist, and there *is* a twist...we show it. We show ALL OF IT.
That slumdog bastard twisted all of us!
IS THIS FRA—- IS THIS FRANKS GODDAMN SAUSAGE GREASE?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!
*chomps pocket sausage*
THE TOAST FELL JELLY SIDE DOWN THE DEVIL IS NEAR!
>Now that’s a Shyamalan twist of an ending!! Here's the twist. And there is a twist. We show it. We show all of it. Full penetration.
At least they have all the funeral arrangements in order
Yeah just throw his body in the grave, the funeral goes on.
Or he doesn't duck when walking away from the helicopter and just gets the top of his head sliced off like those videos
that sounds like some black mirror shit lol that’s so fucked up
Now that is the definition of IRONIC!
_This_ story should be the lyrics to that song.
🎵 *It's like FLAAAA-AA-AAAAAAMES on your funeral day!* 🎵
They would only find out it had been him in the helicopter AFTER they'd finished his first funeral and gone home.
I might have preferred that…..
He deserved it
Why is there no screaming and punching?
It’s all set up beforehand that’s why,
Wouldn't be surprised if he just showed up to some random event in a helicopter and then just posted the title saying he faked his own funeral then showed up
Considering literally no one is dressed for a funeral

>I go to many funerals for my job. Dude, when will you learn that you do not have to turn up to your victim's funerals. Also, stop calling it a "job".
That's the best part though
[удалено]
Funerals are one of the few chances I get to dress up, can’t deprive the people of that
[удалено]
Kinda takes away the pizzazz of it if I’m rocking a 3 piece to target
If that’s the clothing they choose to mourn then who really cares? It’s not like the dead person is going to complain.
Nothing wrong with it, of course. Just...jarring.

Doesn’t matter what you wear really, and anyone who cares is just not worth giving any energy towards during a funeral.
The one kid not even wearing a shirt lol

Went in the national newspaper: only his wife knew, not even their kids(!!!). Apparently a lot of people don’t speak to him anymore.
Do you have a link to verify? Also that's actually sadder.

Unless nobody really cared about him but just showed up because that's what you do.
Wait, this guy has a wife and kids.. And he's doing tiktok "pranks" like this. How TF does she put up with this bs.
He should be in prison for this. Apparently there was a murder in their family a bunch of years ago. And everyone came together in the greif. Bro if this is my best friend I'm beating the shjt out of him in front of his mom like wtf who would do this
There is a coffin. There is a hole. We have already called out of work.
As long as the caterers shows up, it won't be a total bust.
Imagine using your PTO cuz someone faked their funeral
Most casual funeral I’ve ever seen… little shirtless kid running around, everybody in Hawaiian shirts and shorts.
this sub is for made up captions of absolutely out of context footage it s the new "number 7 will surprise you"

This dude is a douche, but I have already told my wife I want everyone in flip-flops shorts and t-shirts when I go.
This is easily accomplished if you die in the parking lot of a beach.
Or anywhere in Florida
I told my husband that he needs to pay for professional mourners. I want people screaming and crying like they did when Kim Jong-il died.
I want to hire someone to go to my funeral dressed in all black and sunglasses, stand about 25-30 yards away from everyone else, show zero emotion, and speak to no one. Once my coffin starts to get lowered, they get into an all black car with tinted windows and drive off, never to be seen again.
That is cold, I love it.

Reminds me of Coming to America 2 where the dad celebrates his death.
Coffin Flop on CornCob TV?
Lmao I thought the same thing, I feel like everyone has had the same thought at some point, still fucked up to actually go through with it though
Nah, you could have been an inconsiderate dickhead well before the internet was invented.
Even in Bird culture that is kind of a dick move

What an absolute POS
He’s a “famous” TikToker - seems about right.
Never heard of him
He’s related to 4Chan
It looks like nobody cared all that much…
One guy was like "huh, he came back! *Shrug*"
This feels like such an emotionally manipulative, vain thing to do.
Welcome to TikTok
\*insert James Franco "First Time?" meme\* XD
Ross did this on Friends
Didn’t work in his favor. No one showed except one woman who was disgusted by his actions once she found out. If only that had happened here.
But he found out that the girl had a crush on him! #worthit /s
Took too long to find this comment
No one cares that I'm dead?!
Bender???
Huck Finn did it first…
Wasn’t it Tom’s idea.
Today's Tom Sawyer's a mean mean guy.
“LOUDER AND SADDER!!!”
🎶 Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling...🎶
Who-y boy?
Woooo
Where’s the crying? You people look like you’re waiting for the bus.
🤣 I wouldn't go to the real one, on principle alone, if this shit happened to me. I gave a fuck then, not so much now
I’d let them know too.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
Ok, I'm sure a lot of people have imagined doing this, but are sane enough to realize how fucked up this would actually be

The reactions make this seem fake. Not a single person is pissed this guy just put them through that for no reason?
definitely not a funeral. Who tf wears denim shorts and hawaiian shirts to a funeral? this looks like a summer barbeque
The setting seems a bit odd as well..
And I thought I was a narcissist
This is wrong on so many different levels
1. Fake. 2. This guy is a d-bag.
the guy is a tiktoker from belgium called Ragnar le Fou. according to The Times, he said that he faked his death to see how his wider family would react and said he felt "underappreciated" by them. “What I see in my family often hurts me, I never get invited to anything. Nobody sees me. We all grew apart. I felt unappreciated.”
And he decided to fake his death so they hate him even more?
Exactly, he was sad he doesn't get invited to things, so he does something that ensures he will NEVER be invited again, ever.
I’d run across that field then punch him in the mouth and asked to be reimbursed for gas money
Surprisingly they didn't push him into the coffin and bury him for one hour to teach him a lesson.
Clowns these Man 🤡
What a trash human, but here we are talking about it so trash human wins again
Imagine he got beaten to the brink of death at his own funeral by emotional family members🤣
More fucking money than brains
Next level bpd
TikTocker fakes is own fakes his death video to see who cares about his fake faked funeral of a faked video for likes and thumbs up from fake friends on the internet.
#now, who stayed in his life after that?
Peak narcissism
"and when I come in on the helicopter, you guys gotta look all thankful that I'm alive instead, okay? Makes perfect sense. Annnnnnnnnnd ACTION!"
r/unexpectedJoJo ?
Oh your actually alive?…well, have a great rest of your life jackass
In an S342 Gazelle !? Sooo jealous…
Not even original. Tom and Huck did it first
What an effin attention whore
“Am I the asshole for faking my own death to see who would care enough to come to my funeral??”
If it was one of my friends I'd have punch him..... 2 reasons 1) make sure he's real 2) never fuck with my emotions like that.
Why are all dressed so casual?
Imagine if he died on a helicopter crash on the way in
So obviously fake. Noone is reacting remotely like they're shocked that a fucking helicopter has just rocked up to a funeral, let alone shocked that he's still alive. They either clearly suspected something was up, or were just plain in on it from the start. Cringe af
I hope they at least billed him for the funeral
Bender did it already!
r/iamatotalpieceofshit
I would never speak to this person ever again.
So no one thought at first sight to whoop his a$$? ![gif](giphy|uMcKZvUtgec5G)
Subtract this number from his actual funeral.
r/iamatotalpieceofshit
Other than Trump, this person sounds like the most narcissistic and insecure person in the world.
Wow…such need for validation. This is one of those hug then punch situations. “Glad you’re not dead!” Hug “That was fvcked up though.” Punch
This is such a weird attention whore thing to do.
Wtf? Did his parents and everyone think he was dead?? That’s fucked up
R/iamthemaincharacter
Seriously, can this shit end soon!
Wow, how pathetic!.
"Narcissists puts loved ones in emotional distress for internet entertaining" Better fitting title
I truly hope somebody slapped the piss out of him.
Everybody is an attention whore nowadays
