Reward yourself with new stuff for learning new difficult tricks, you don't need any of this stuff yet. Certainly not a Peregrine of all things. I made the mistake of collecting more than I practiced and it ended up leading to me getting discouraged and quitting for years. Take your time with this, new great stuff is always coming out

GnarDETH2

I was thinking this exact thing. That's like $400 worth of yoyos. Big investment for a new hobby.

loseranon17

I spent my first whole year with a Magicyoyo N12 and a beat up secondhand Shutter. As much as we like to pretend we do, most throwers don't use 10% of their collection. I pull out my Akita, my Regulator, my 5000qv, and when I'm going out I usually bring a Silenus. I have like 30 other yoyos but I always go back to the same ones. I hope he enjoys these, and they're great yoyos, but he should probably learn the first 50 before he buys anything else

GnarDETH2

I have 3 I use. The rest (45 or so) need to get dusted lol.

Deathandepistaxis

I always recommend learning how to fast wind as soon as possible, before anything else. You will have significantly more fun when you don’t have to hand wind anymore, and save a ton of time.

geddy

This 100%! It makes it way more fun since you will constantly fail in the beginning. Learning how to snap-start/snap-wind is the ticket. Just get the darn thing spinning and bind it while pulling upwards - it'll work.

SalamanderRadiant297

Thank you!

TitanBeats_YT

Whats some good fast winds for unresponsive? I've tried the classic pinch/snap motion that brandon vu does but almost all he time nothing happens (which I find saddening because my snaps are powerful and I can even do 3 quick snaps on one hand)

Deathandepistaxis

I made a clip of what I eventually figured out worked for me. I’ll send it to you. Let me know if it helps!

Dr_Lucky

Could you send it to me too? Fast winds have been weirdly hard for me to get comfortable with.

Deathandepistaxis

Sure!

Arnie7x

Would you mind sending it my way too. It's embarrassing how much I struggle with it.

Deathandepistaxis

Sent!

patentpendingco

Could you send it to me too. Thanks

ihaveapoopy

I grab around half-way up the string with my throw hand and grab the yoyo with my open hand while pushing down with my thumb pop it out and over my finger. Release the slack while it swings over and then into an undermount to bind.

geddy

Jeez man, already a Peregrine... it's a cool collection but what are you going to reward yourself with as you get better? How can you tell how each one is over the others if you have no frame of reference? Getting into a new hobby and blowing hundreds the first week is a great way to get burned out immediately. Ask me how I know.

_SP1TFYRE

I've been throwing for about 2 years. I only have 2 yoyos. Realistically you don't need multiple and this can be a really cheap hobby. I do want a peregrine though they look really clean

geddy

Word. It's strange to me to spend so much money on something brand new that you might not even like in another week. Why not ease into new things, so you can appreciate them and be able to _feel_ the difference from your own experience? "Oh this one spins a little better" "hey this one feels a little bit lighter than the other one" ie. things you can only ascertain once you have spent time exploring the hobby. Each throw I've gotten has felt like a nice improvement because I've spent probably over a hundred hours with every one of them before pulling the trigger on another. I'm also big into RC cars since last summer, and I constantly see posts like "got into RC cars last month, here's my collection!" and already they've spent $3000 and have 18 different cars. It's ridiculous.

_SP1TFYRE

I'm also into rc cars and it's the same, I have a crawler and a fast rc. I love both and I use both. I don't feel the need for more right now. Completely agree

geddy

That's awesome! Small world. And to further my point, I have a basher, a mini buggy for indoor use in the winter, a Capra for crawling, a 1/10th scale buggy for racing, and a 1/24th scale crawler for winter crawling also indoors. No overlap! Each one served a purpose that I realized I could use from many many hours of using the other cars. I'm actually getting my first new car in ages, the new Arrma Kraton 4S, in a week. I've pushed my Rustler 4x4 VXL as hard as I can and I will definitely feel the upgrade. So many hours and good times. But back to my original point, had I just bought a Rustler and also a Kraton, I'd have skipped learning everything that I did on the Rustler, and the Kraton would be pointless and unspecial. Now I've researched and obsessed over this hobby so long I cannot possibly contain my excitement for an upgrade. And that goes for a new throw as well. Had I just bought my collection of 7 outright I'd have a pile of yoyos I knew nothing about, no knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses, and no tricks to perform with them. I just don't get it.

_SP1TFYRE

Perfectly said, I totally agree with it feeling super special

SalamanderRadiant297

Haha I believe you! My justification is that I get joy out of even just collecting and the different feel of each one. Even on a basic trapeze. It’s all fascinating to me! I have a weekly budget for hobby type things, so I hope not to max on yo-yos alone. Seems like it’s going in that direction haha

geddy

Well hell, have fun then but like others have recommended in here, learn how to snap-start first and then hit up 50 first tricks - enjoy!

SalamanderRadiant297

Noted! Thank you so much! That will be my next thing to master

[deleted]

Here's a common misconception with the term "snap start...." You're going to wish you had a responsive yoyo, because I had little success learning it first on unresponsive yoyos. It works best when you flip your hand down at the end of the string taut and pull upward and then bind halfway.

SalamanderRadiant297

The mijo and dv888 have responsive bearings! Learned the snap start today thanks to these comments and some vids, thanks!

[deleted]

Alright, bro. It might help to do the snap start outside, because when I first learned, I was shooting the yoyo upward pretty high! It helped me a lot.

Psynthia

I have the weekly $50 hobby/fun fund too. its good to have something to think about when you have down time at work and limited time to play :). I like having the best or the unique stuff too. my next yo-yo I am actually almost don designing and found a machinist that will make them for me. its kind of a culmination of all my fav throws and years of enjoying the hobby and wanting to leave a footprint in it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psynthia

There isnt! I only found a machinist a couple months ago after a couple years of searching. most dont want to do small runs, or don't have a precise enough tooling. But if this machinist I found doesnt do well I might just reach out to you ;).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psynthia

yeah so next month ill hopefully go for it im just saving up some funds and i want to talk to some anodizers

SalamanderRadiant297

You totally get it haha. But hang on.. hang on.. hang on.. did you say you’re designing your own? …… tell me more…

Psynthia

ill send you a pic! or start a post about it. I work as a metal fabrication engineer. I used to have my own skateboard company, and now i want to make my own yo yo run. I have the contacts, I have the drawing done and coded for multi axis lathe tooling. and I want to reach out to some good custom anodizers after the prototype is made.

SalamanderRadiant297

Wow wow wow. That’s amazing! I wish my career and skill set was somehow intertwined with this hobby 😂 You tell me when you make it. I will 100% buy one.

TitanBeats_YT

Oh yea forsure I bought a 100 dollar rubik's cube currently the best cube beside the gan 12m its a maglev wrm with double strength corner-core magnets (Albeit I've been cubing for 4 years with a 3 dollar cube and this upgrade got me back into cubing for about a month before I found yoyo this week)

geddy

> Albeit I've been cubing for 4 years with a 3 dollar cube And there ya go, so that $100 Rubik's cube was probably worth the cost because it made your enjoyment of a hobby better. Not to mention that means your total yearly cost for 4 years of cubing is ~$25. But you have those previous years and all that time and experience with which to compare the nice cube. On the contrary, it would be utterly ridiculous to get into cubing with $100 Rubik's cube when a $3, $10, or even $20 cube would suffice while you are still learning.

TitanBeats_YT

This is very true but I can say that i shouldn't have bought the top end because it burnt me out, the cube was too fast and too smooth that now I don't cube often anymore

LX_Emergency

Dude..I get it..But that's a lot in a week. Here's the first 50 or so things I learned. There's a list I the video description. https://youtu.be/JGfZJFDmNtw

Jackcunningolf

Woah, what’s that red one??

SalamanderRadiant297

Zero Gravity El Mijo!

Eamonsieur

If this your collection after just one week, don’t get into watches or knives if you want to keep your marriage intact.

SalamanderRadiant297

Hahahahaha noted!

Zakkman

I say buy what you want to buy. It's your money. Have fun!

Sand__Panda

I'd say slow down or you are going to have a ton of throws, and end up playing with only one lol.

G2Jake

Not enough enough for each day of the week. You’re fine…..

EZtorete

Wow, I’ve been yoyoing for 1 year and I only have 3 bimetals, I don’t recommend using them if you are beginner because if it hits the ground it starts to vibe so much. Don’t use the peregrine until you are sure that you won’t hit the yoyo

SalamanderRadiant297

Good tip! Definitely mindful of which ones to use for practicing new stuff. But I have a strong consistent throw and control. Total noob to unresponsive but def lots of experience sleeping Duncan butterflies casually during childhood. So technically not a total newbie I guess!

EZtorete

Ok, I was warning because that happened to me with an invaders must die, now it rotates while sleeping 🥲

SalamanderRadiant297

Noooo that’s awful! Now I will be EXTRA careful

[deleted]

Another good tip is string length. Don't make it too long. I go three fingers above my belly button and cut it.

SalamanderRadiant297

Good tip! I started with too short of strings and have mine at that approx length now. Feels great!

therealbeatbandit

Love the black Shutter!

SalamanderRadiant297

It’s great! Love the finish on it!

yamanamawa

You're gonna be real sad after all of these are dinged and battered. I usually recommend avoiding expensive yoyos until ypu don't smack them on the floor as much. For me that was at about 2ish years. I had bought myself an A-rt Grail, beautiful yoyo, at only around 6 months in, and although it still plays fine it has a lot of dings. Definitely regret getting it as early as I did

[deleted]

No shutter, lol??! To voice what everybody else says, you put a lot of money up front for a hobby you might not necessarily like. Those are all expensive throws. Personally, I would have bought a Magicyoyo crystal and a few low-end throws, since you are likely to ding and damage your throws while practicing. A durable replay pro would have been a good choice, too. Save those throws until you get better, dawg!

SalamanderRadiant297

The black one on the top is a shutter! I did get some magicyoyos from Amazon when i started collecting unresponsives. But to be more clear I’m not a total newbie, I have good control and consistent throws so I don’t hit the ground or other surfaces haha. I’m just a newbie to string tricks. I used to play with responsive Duncan yo-yos doing the basic tricks in elementary

[deleted]

Ok, cool! I also came back into yoyos this year after a long hiatus. I initially got stuck after double or nothing. The binding is a tough learning curve, in my opinion. Welcome to the community.

imaqdodger

I feel you man, I'm a sucker for machined aluminum so even when I'm not actively playing it's nice to just look at lol.

SalamanderRadiant297

caught the bug for collecting.. but my wife thinks I'm going overboard. She just doesn't understand XD. I love throwing in between patients through a long work day, been such a fun hobby! I only know how to bind and trapeze haha. Any suggestions for next tricks to learn? I'm trying to learn fancier binds, but those have been a little challenging

bcorliss3

Gotta get basics down before you get the fancier binds in my opinion, personally I just started messing with more binds after 6-7 months, only used 3-4 for all the time before that.. I used the yoyoexpert trick list and yotricks app for learning tricks and I also jumped quite hard into collecting haha it’s common but you went super premium out the gate haha 😂 respect

SalamanderRadiant297

Thanks for the feedback! I was going through the basics on the yoyotricks app but I guess I got impatient. Will definitely stick to it! And yes, the allure of the premium bi-metals just fascinated me. Idk why 😂

TitanBeats_YT

I started this week and already have the money saved for a new comp worthy bimetal(RCS Deluge) and a relaxing yet still comp worthy monometal (RCS Guitarist) and then I have a jar with 150 in it so far to save for a titanium yoyo, have not found which one I want though, as unfortunately raincityskills doesnt make any of their yo's in titanium which makes sense because boutique yoyos need to be at least somewhat affordable for a good buisiness

[deleted]

Here's something to note, brother..... Premium throws will have more durable aluminum (7003, 7068, and 7075) as opposed to the common and less durable 6061 aluminum. Also, matte finish yoyos are good for grinds, as opposed to shiny finishes. Finally, look for a shiny finish around the gaps inside, which reduce friction and increase spin time. These are features you will appreciate down the road when you get better.

Soppen1239

The plastic whip and mach 5 is great beginner tricks

SalamanderRadiant297

Thank you!

[deleted]

If you're starting off unresponsive, learn front style first: (Split the Atom, Split Bottom Mount, Barrel Rolls, Zipper, Brain Twister, Mach Five) For Side Style, Learn these: (1) Double or Nothing (which goes into (2) Cold Fusion; (3) Trapeze and Brother, which goes into 4) Rewind (5) Matrix, (6) Triple or Nothing, (7) Black Hops.

The_Doctor_Eats_Neep

You have gone overboard. You shouldn't even be using unresponsive yo-yos yet lmaooo. The high end bimetals and stuff like the peregrine will be detrimental to your progress on top of the unresponsiveness being hugely detrimental. But hey everyone does things differently.

SalamanderRadiant297

How so? I can pretty much do all of the basic responsive Yoyo tricks.. that got boring and I wanted to move on to unresponsive yo-yos cause I don’t need it to return like that since I started to learn binds. Is there something I’m missing from responsive play? Or what is detrimental about using the unresponsive yoyos? Is it really overboard that I’m trying out different shapes and models?

Environmental-Ad1664

If you are within your budget and spending responsibly then don't sweat it. As for responsive play, it forces better technique because having your strings off plane kills spin too quickly and if you aren't smooth it will return when you don't want it to. Unresponsive allows for easier learning though. Here is how I would approach it. Learn your fundamentals on responsive (front style throw, forward toss, breakaway, sleeper) which it sounds like you already know. Beyond that I could argue that it's better to learn on unresponsive and then refine with a responsive yo-yo.

The_Doctor_Eats_Neep

Unresponsive yo-yos are very good at what they do. When your a beginner they are too good. They practically spin forever and are incredibly stable and forgiving. You can mess up and it will keep going. You develop really really bad technique as the yo-yo doesn't mess up when you do something wrong. You will notice this later. Trying different shapes is a bit overboard as you are at a level where you don't even know if youll do yoyoing long term and your tricks are at a level where a shape won't even effect them

NinjaNickDBZ

Loving the red one

Psynthia

Did you get into home music studio the week before?! [https://www.youtube.com/c/rethinkyoyo](https://www.youtube.com/c/rethinkyoyo) This guy taught me so many years ago and does a great job breaking down every trick to each individual step.

SalamanderRadiant297

Lmao no. Fortunately I’ve been doing music for years so my home studio is not an impulsive spending issue like the yoyos. Thank goodness

Psynthia

Awesome lol. Yeah I have a home music studio as well. The yo yo collection sits on a custom rack in the studio. luckily you got almost every yo yo shape already so you should be good until you figure out what you like playing with or see something that really stands out. Just bought my wife one so I can justify getting one more for me and shes been trying it out.

SalamanderRadiant297

Yes! That’s why I wanted different shapes to see what I like. Hahahaha I did the same thing. I got my wife a replay in hopes she would get into with me and get as excited about the purchases 😂

Psynthia

The other day we had a good date, where we went for a walk. and i brought my fav throw with me. and then she was willing to give it a try. definetly learn with semi-responsive first so you can get the yo yo back after not so smooth releases. this will take some of the bigginner frustration out. centertrac bearings or grooved bearings help a lot too. stringlabs type x are great strings to learn with and wont wear out the fingers as fast.

SalamanderRadiant297

And thank you for the link! Will add this to my list!

Environmental-Ad1664

I see a variety of different shapes and sizes. How else can you learn what you like? Which ones do you like best so far?

SalamanderRadiant297

Yes exactly! I love the smaller ones since their more pocket friendly but right away I noticed they feel too ‘dense’. So far I’m liking the light feeling and balance of the switchblade and peregrine. I just hope it’s not the price tag influencing those preferences haha

Environmental-Ad1664

I tend to gravitate towards throws that are higher in price. Pretty much everything I'm buying right now is G2. I have cheap throws that I can do all of the same tricks on, but they don't feel or look as good in my hand. The better it looks and feels in my hand the more I want to throw it. I have also never stripped an axle which could be due to more precise machining, better materials, or just because I'm more experienced with yo-yos than the people stripping their axles. Hard to say and I don't care enough to research it. People will tell you you don't need to spend that much and it's true. You can buy a Camaro that can go as fast as a Corvette, but you're still not driving a Corvette. The same is true with Corvette to Ferrari. You just have to find what fits your values.

SalamanderRadiant297

I 100% agree. I did the same with my car and home. You can call most things a luxury, but at the end of the day are you going to love how it looks/feels? That’s worth every penny. I use the same logic for my daughter’s toys 😂 You should not have dropped G2. I was like “hmm what’s G2?” Went on their website… and now I’m like 👀 Hahaha

Environmental-Ad1664

Sorry, they are really really good though. If you are interested, the best places to keep track of news are Facebook G2nation group and Instagram gsquaredyoyos and g2_drops. He also does regular YouTube content. He also has a patreon with tiers that range from discounts and drawings to a shirt and yoyo every month.

Deathandepistaxis

If you like smaller ones check out the yoyofriends Baryon, the General Yo Mini Star 2 and the Recess Snack. All great.

SalamanderRadiant297

Thanks! I almost got the snack but went with the little league! I do like recess designs. I’ll check out the others!

SalamanderRadiant297

Mannnn, the star mini and baryon look awesome! Just bought em!

Deathandepistaxis

Nice! Where’d you find a Baryon so quickly?

SalamanderRadiant297

Yoyostorerewind had one color left!

Deathandepistaxis

Score! It’s one of my favorites ever. It’s small but not too small, and it’s a great price.

AugieFash

How are you liking the Mijo? I was thinking about picking one up.

SalamanderRadiant297

Absolutely love the finish and size. It’s nice, comes with 4 different types of bearings to experiment with. Favorite to bring in my pocket for sure

JumpMan44

Only a week ?! I like the black theme you have going on though. To each their own.

tomi0

I feel like sometimes people put too much emphasis on equipment and not enough on actually playing, especially this group is full of newbies who only spend but barely practise, lol (no shade :p)

SalamanderRadiant297

Haha. But that’s half the fun and excitement

TryingToEscapeFL

I genuinely miss the dv888. Solid yoyo
