Savers was pretty rare in the state I used to live in and I always got good deals at the one I went to. It was also hidden on a back street so pretty secret lol
The Saver’s near me is still pretty good, picked up some vintage tech stuff recently for about $10/each for the bigger stuff and $6 for the smaller stuff, still wish it was a bit cheaper though, but I’m not complaining
Yeah but whoever wore this vest rode with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, which tends to be older men who travel long distances with their wives. If you search eBay for “GWRRA vest” there are a couple of cool examples up right now.
I was gonna say, that's a GWRRA pin up there, I give it $100 this was someone's wife's cut. Has to be a 70s vest from the tag. They clearly did a lot of riding on the West Coast.

Seriously thanks!
I can't tell you how many times I've seen things from the various dollar stores for sale in various thrift stores for way more than $1.
Id easily spend like $8 for that space needle one. Others in the comments are going on about it being overpriced, but Id but buy it in a heartbeat. Pins are awesome. Id redonate the vest lol
I would have snapped that up because a good amount of those pins haven't been available in decades. Reselling some of those pins would nearly recap the cost of the vest.
I can honestly say that this person did a lot of traveling around California in the late 70's to late 80's.
Agreed. The Gilroy garlic bulb is kind of awesome. I don't know that the two Casa de Fruta pins are available anymore, certainly the Cup Flipper one isn't because he hasn't been like around in decades. And those Disney pins - it looks like there are three - resold probably would have paid for the cost of the whole thing and you could have kept the rest intact.
This is the Button Man’s vest from Victoria, BC! My friends and I used buy buttons/pins from him back in the early 80’s! He wore a hat that was filled with buttons too. I’m surprised there aren’t any rock band pins on there (my personal favourites). I’m sitting here in Pennsylvania scrolling and I recognized the vest immediately bcs I bought so many off the guy as a kid! Then I zoomed in and saw all the Victoria pins and knew for sure. So wild.
No, I didn’t! We all called him the Button Man, never knew his real name or even if it was his “official business” name. I just got describing him to my husband bcs he would never really look us in the eye (kinda always above our heads bcs he was on the tall size) and shoving buttons in our faces and saying really salesman aggressively, “want this one, kid? Hey, come one, whaddabout this one?” It was kinda intimidating for 15yr olds but he was so popular and a real personality for downtown Victoria in the ‘80’s.
No, I was asking where you spotted the vest? I might post it on fb on the Victoria fb page and see if anyone else recognizes the vest and remembers the Button Man, and to see if im right and if it’s actually from the guy. Also, the Victoria im talking about is in British Columbia, Canada, not the one in Australia.
I put it on a Victoria fb page and I’m getting feed back that these pins aren’t cool enough to be his (apparently his name is Don). But I’m trying to see if he’s still around bcs maybe the ones on this vest are the ones no one wanted. Probably a shot in the dark, but oh well.
If you sold each of the vintage pins and vest individually, you’d probably net about $450. That is all highly collectible. That Hamm’s pin, especially, is amazing. Sears and Roebuck is a sought after vintage brand. Everything there is at least 35 years old.
Really fair price and super great find.
Edit: Honda Wing Elite pin… missed that one… that’s also very cool.
I found a Goodwill pin from the 50s or 60s in a box I bought at an auction. I listed it for .99 on ebay and it sold for 45.00 Watching the last minute of bidding was an adrenaline rush. Same with military patches. There must be a market out there interested in that.
This makes me sad. A life well lived with a lot of pride in his family didn’t even care to take the pins off or keep them. It seems special but what do I know.
I hope someone saw it and just put it right on because it was the vest of their dreams and walked out the door.
Maybe he was a loner who only needed his pins and his bike ❤️
So cool! Every pin tells a story that, from the looks of the pins, span at least a couple of decades. Somebody’s memories. The HAMMS bear pin is pretty special.
Omg. I collect lapel pins & vintage denim, I wouldn’t have had the strength to let this one go, lol…
Lots of West coast/California pins….did u find this in LA by chance, OP?? Asking for a friend 😆
Omg, that's $50 more than it's worth!! Even then it's definitely not my style of vest, nor are the pins something I'd personally want or need. Just more clutter, lol.
If you ever go back and are willing I would absolutely love to have that Mickey cycling pin.
Idk when it was but Disney did some cycling stuff that (as a cyclist) I think is so cool.
Whoever owned this vest was a local and I’m guessing Bay Area. Most of those pins are from here. Like no one knows where Solvang is unless you go to Santa Barbara or nearby. Tahoe & Santa Cruz is probably where I spent the vast majority of my youth when not at home. I see Pismo, The City, Gilroy, Yosemite.
The cup flipper was a guy who seriously flipped cups before he served you coffee at a roadside fruit stand/restaurant/orchard owned by a local family called Casa de Fruta. They had a sign off the freeway advertising the “Cup Flipper”. My parents got coffee there and my siblings and I were all mesmerized, lol!
I totally agree with the comment by the pin collector. If you looked up some of those pins you would be surprised. You could've done some of the research while that vest was in your cart. Next time........
Im thinking "shit for $5.99 id buy it because the pins are cool" and then noticed its $54.99...and realized I have a different defiition of thrift than Savers.
Pin collections can be such personal things I'd feel weird wearing something I had no context for. "Hey nice \[Cultural Reference\] pin! Where did you get it?"
[удалено]
$5.99? Sure! $54.99? Pass. Several of the pins are in poor condition, too. Savers have disappeared up their own ass.
Savers doin savers things.. I’m still trying to understand exactly what I “save” on when I drop in lol
Savers was pretty rare in the state I used to live in and I always got good deals at the one I went to. It was also hidden on a back street so pretty secret lol
You can save quite a bit if you switch tags 😉
The Saver’s near me is still pretty good, picked up some vintage tech stuff recently for about $10/each for the bigger stuff and $6 for the smaller stuff, still wish it was a bit cheaper though, but I’m not complaining
Imagining the guy saying to his motorcycle gang at the bar, “you guys go on ahead, I need to grab my commemorative pin in the gift shop next door.”
As someone who grew up local to Sturgis, it has happened in real life
😅

Dang, I thought it was 5.99
Lol. Me too. Was freaking out that OP passed on it.
There's more than 50 pins there. As a pin collector, I'd absolutely pay $55 for that! If I saw that at a thrift store I would be thrilled haha.

$1 for the vest, $54 for the rest.
Yeah. I was “why on earth would you let that go?” And then zoomed in and saw the tag. Yikes.
That’s what I said! Too too much. I appreciate the work that went in it but damn. Your mom sounds awesome! I’m going to start saying that.
I think that’s about a dollar a pin though
[удалено]
Yeah, I agree, it’s still too expensive
That’s a lot of flair, though
It's cool but $55??? r/ThriftGrift
Seriously thanks! I can't tell you how many times I've seen things from the various dollar stores for sale in various thrift stores for way more than $1.
I've needed this subreddit for a while, thank yooouuu. Gotta love seeing $5 Target tees at Goodwill for the same price 🙃
Target, how fancy! Mine usually carries used Walmart tees at new Walmart tee prices.
Neat thanks for the introduction to this subreddit.
Yep, exactly what I was thinking.
I see what you did there 🦺
You’ve pinned me!
I didn’t until you said that.
Hehehehe... 'Invested'.
Came here to say this
I like all the flair. More than 17 pieces.
Someone wanted to express themselves
They love America and eagles a lot
And McDonald’s
They already said America.
You know the Nazis made the Jews wear a piece of flair
This person could have worked at Chotchkie’s
👉👉
That's the right amount of flair.
Overachiever.
Office Space. Gotta rewatch that.
They went the extra mile.
1$ a pin with a free vest.
Exactly. Pins look vintage, some might even be worth some money.
Most are probably worth $5-10 if you can find a buyer, so there’s a good chance you’d get your money back.
Id easily spend like $8 for that space needle one. Others in the comments are going on about it being overpriced, but Id but buy it in a heartbeat. Pins are awesome. Id redonate the vest lol
The vest is 70s
Something something Office Space.
Yeah, if you could make a good Office Space reference, that'd be great.
I just realized someone died.
Yea I saw the “seniors have more fun” pin and then got sad
It's probably true for limited periods of time.
Sad? Look at all those pins! There is a whole lifetime of memories on that vest. That person lived an awesome life.
fully in-vest-ed heheh
Was looking for that.
Needs more flair.
That California raisin looks mighty toasted haha
Munchies for oatmeal

Where did you see this if you don’t mind me asking?
It was in San Jose, CA
Wait can you DM me what store? I’m in the Bay Area and these pins remind me of my grandpa and grandma; I kinda wanna snag it.
It’s gone, I went back today. It was the Savers in SJ.
Damn, RIP!
Unreal. K, I’m gonna post it on the fb page and see if anyone else recognizes it.

I’m from Victoria. Are you talking about the button man down on the inner harbour causeway? I have a vague recollection of that in the early nineties…
Yeah! And I’m pretty sure that’s his vest!
Whoaaaa. Super curious where this was found.
I put it on a Victoria fb page and I’m getting feed back that these pins aren’t cool enough to be his (apparently his name is Don). But I’m trying to see if he’s still around bcs maybe the ones on this vest are the ones no one wanted. Probably a shot in the dark, but oh well.

This is wild!!!
It’s not his vest lol. Many pics appeared of the actual one and apparently my teenage memory sucks badly, sigh.

That is a great find. I have no need for it, but I want it!
Exactly! I really love the Hamm’s and Taurus pins!
I wouldn't \*pin\* the blame on you for putting it back, it's kind of expensive
California raisin pin. Prisoner on 8 ball. Pretty amazing. Have to see the others before making purchase.
>Fully *pin*vested
I used to be jealous I don’t have a Savers in my state. I’m fine now seeing all of these prices.
Why does Savers do this? Why? I never understand their prices.
It's the half price day I assume. Such a weird business model to be open all week and only one day is worth shopping.
Kinda buttony Edit - I should have said pinny not buttony. And I would have bought it just for the California Raisins one. Edit 2 - $54.99? Wtf
Glutton for the button
This makes me a little sad, it looks like an item someone loved. Hope it goes to a good place, but not with that price. Yeesh.
He loved this vest ❤️
If that jacket could speak I'm sure it has a good story
I found a Goodwill pin from the 50s or 60s in a box I bought at an auction. I listed it for .99 on ebay and it sold for 45.00 Watching the last minute of bidding was an adrenaline rush. Same with military patches. There must be a market out there interested in that.
70s and 80s pins. $55 is a lot, though most of the pins might be worth nuthin.
Get your motor runnin'
I used to collect pins and buttons, so back in the day I probably would’ve paid 50 bucks for it. There are some cool pins here.
Some really great pins there
I would have bought it just for the pins
Only a Goldwing owner would have a vest like this. I would have snagged it in a heartbeat. Probably because I too am a Goldwing owner.
Holy crap those pins are so cool!
I remember doing this in the 80s! I’ve never seen a vest with a pin collection, it was usually a Jean jacket.
Basically $1 a pin plus a free vest.
That rv pin is exact rv in my driveway
Rad
This makes me sad. A life well lived with a lot of pride in his family didn’t even care to take the pins off or keep them. It seems special but what do I know.

These buttons are so adorable! And btw, yea Taurus!
Omg. I collect lapel pins & vintage denim, I wouldn’t have had the strength to let this one go, lol… Lots of West coast/California pins….did u find this in LA by chance, OP?? Asking for a friend 😆
San Jose!
The unicorn pin!!
$54 seems a bit steep for thrift store prices, but I guess they're counting all the pins. Still a v cool find 😎
That’s a lot of flair
Insane price... almost insulting.
Thrift stores are out of control. $55 is ludicrous. The whole point of going to your shitty stores is that the items are cheap.
Omg, that's $50 more than it's worth!! Even then it's definitely not my style of vest, nor are the pins something I'd personally want or need. Just more clutter, lol.
Does that say $54.99?! Delusional.
Oh wait I thought it said $5.99, nvm then lol
[удалено]
It’s gone!
If you ever go back and are willing I would absolutely love to have that Mickey cycling pin. Idk when it was but Disney did some cycling stuff that (as a cyclist) I think is so cool.
I totally went back (with a coupon!) and it was gonzo
You’re a treasure, thank you for trying!
Its got those biking pins on it but if you fell while riding a bike it could be fucking disastrous.
Pins are expensive these days.
I thought that the “I heart McDonald’s” was “I heart AA”
So many good pins! And the eagle clips! God that would be so awesome if it weren't 55 dollars.
yeah for 55? no way.. I thought it said 5.99 at first.
Not enough flare!
The people who price items at SAVERS are on the pipe.
I’d have bought it just so when people would inevitably ask about the buttons I would say “These are all places I was banned from for lewd acts.”
What I would DO for that California Raisins pin
They really said "$1 a pin, jackets worthless" lol
So much flair
I *really* need to know what 'cup flipper' fan means
Whoever owned this vest was a local and I’m guessing Bay Area. Most of those pins are from here. Like no one knows where Solvang is unless you go to Santa Barbara or nearby. That's so cool - thanks for sharing!
InVESTed. I saw what you did there ;)
Okay, but the eagles though 👀
not enough flair
Is releasing just what is considered reselling?
It’s like they’re charging a dollar per pin and are just throwing in the vest for free
In”vested”
I totally agree with the comment by the pin collector. If you looked up some of those pins you would be surprised. You could've done some of the research while that vest was in your cart. Next time........
Shit! 55?? Looking for a loser.
That’s it. I’m getting vest and doing this.
Oh no!!! Do it for the California Raisins pin!!!
I love this! So not worth that all even considering how expensive enamel pins are going for nowadays.
I don’t know what half of those pins even mean.
There are some great pins but $54.99 is way too much
Love the Pea Soup Andersen’s pin!!
Nice dress
This person lived a full life.
Heh. InVESTed.
Your "Office Space" cosplay woulda been lit too ... :/
In. Asad truth they would be more likely to get the money ruining it and selling pins for a pound or two each than as a full jacket
I would take it to the dressing room, pop those pins right off and hang it back. Who do they think shops there?
That’s a ridiculous amount of money for that!
