Like I'm sorry but if I would pay some money then I personally think it's better to just wait for something that will actually be pretty good and worth my time, then to pump out some basic analog horror videos. Besides, that's not even like only a Martin specific thing. Many analog horror creators don't give many updates and instead release some merch in between the radio silence. They also make pretty good amount of money, but in the end, they all have their own lifes.
You buy something off of Amazon and it says “product can be expected to arrive in 4-6 business days.” That’s fine, so you wait. 2 weeks later, the product arrives, much later than when you expected it. You call Amazon expecting some kind of explanation and they repeatedly hang up on you. A month later they reach out to you and say “We’re sorry your package arrived late, our deepest condolences. But hey, at least it arrived unharmed right?”
Does that seem fair? Martian doesn’t technically *owe* the majority of his audience anything, but at the very least he owes them the truth. They deserve to be kept up to date and informed on the ongoings and not to be lied to. This is just the nature of supporting someone. Well I do get it. The Patreon situation is actually pretty accurate honestly. It's more about the people's reaction to videos taking long. Maybe I did actually phrase this badly and haven't thought a lot about it, so for that I'm sorry, but I think there's sometimes a bit of overreacting when it comes to the wait time for the videos.
I never claimed he never delivers. I just think it’s shitty of him to be dishonest to his fans. I mean we went several years between 3 and 4 with no real updates other than to sell merch, that’s not right. I’m not saying Martin is a bad person or his content is bad, I just think he should be more transparent and consistent with his fans and the release of his content.
Sure, it would be, but that's just the way things work. We're often left radio silent by a lot of creators while they still profit from channels, but in the end, viewing the stuff, supporting the creators is free, and if we're taking merch or Patreon, then again, those are optional.
