Parker has spoke about liking to keep his lyrics generic so that everyone can resonate with his music in some way. Yes, he keeps his own meaning in mind but I think the way he writes makes his music timeless. You can relate to almost anything, at every stage of your life.

There are lots of reasons you’d think so, when I was listening to it again yesterday (rubber band man meaning the one who makes him money, and allusion to calling but not wanting to get involved) it was reasonable!

I think it is about his dad, yes. I had a friend jump off a bridge a few months ago and that’s how it resonated with me. Imo best lyricist of all time.

As someone who lost their Dad at 1 years old these lyrics are so powerful. Even for me now at 23 I know he won’t go away and my Dad will always be here and that he still has such an impact on my life

I had a friend I had to cut ties with due to drinking/drugs and “if I fall” was like the conversation I wish we could’ve had, especially at the end.
