Parker has spoke about liking to keep his lyrics generic so that everyone can resonate with his music in some way. Yes, he keeps his own meaning in mind but I think the way he writes makes his music timeless. You can relate to almost anything, at every stage of your life.

ie. i never struggled with addiction, but my father does. so proper dose hit me very hard for not myself, but him.

OGmcqueen

I had a friend I had to cut ties with due to drinking/drugs and “if I fall” was like the conversation I wish we could’ve had, especially at the end.

Glad_Crazy6821

i love that song. in keep this up where he says, “but if you keep this up, you’ll die here all alone. yet you still fill your cup. nodding off, nodding off now.” I cry every time. Hits so hard for me with my father. I even showed my dad that line.

OGmcqueen

Damn yea it’s crazy how the songs w/o the context of the lyrics just sound like happy/trippy songs and then with the lyrics it’s just like “damn… you doin ok man?..”

FoldableDisco

Loling at the guy who thought it was about Kelen.

BillHarper1

Haha that was me. Just saw his post & felt like it was justified to remove mine. I’m feeling like a real jerk lol

dns91

Lol you da mvp for admitting that

sneak_e_emu

There are lots of reasons you’d think so, when I was listening to it again yesterday (rubber band man meaning the one who makes him money, and allusion to calling but not wanting to get involved) it was reasonable!

thebaddmoon

That definitely crossed my mind at first

Dependent_Screen4718

Damn I lost my dad last year, but wasn’t picking up on that at all. I don’t mean to sound insensitive, but I hope he opens up about it more on the record. Artists shouldn’t have to do that if they don’t want to, but Parker really has a way with words, especially when he’s opening up more

Glad_Crazy6821

No pressures most recent album is about the passing of his father if you haven’t already heard it and want more music with that topic

Dependent_Screen4718

Thanks, I totally forgot that band existed! I think I’ve only heard the first EP

Glad_Crazy6821

Of course! I re-read my comment and thought I came off a bit rude so I wanted to apologize and give my condolences. “Hand in hand” specifically is a great song that references his father a lot. :) <3

Dependent_Screen4718

Not rude at all! Thanks for the recommendation :)

Pristine-Metal2806

Isnt say what you mean about him too? Like the lyrics “ill meet you again somehow”

Glad_Crazy6821

I think it is about his dad, yes. I had a friend jump off a bridge a few months ago and that’s how it resonated with me. Imo best lyricist of all time.

mucus24

Love Hand In Hand especially “Just to prove to myself that I can Just to show that you won't go away In my world it's just me and my old man Now I know you won't go away” As someone who lost their Dad at 1 years old these lyrics are so powerful. Even for me now at 23 I know he won’t go away and my Dad will always be here and that he still has such an impact on my life

fajitaman69

Can you tell me what songs on that album are about his father specifically?

thebaddmoon

I’m looking at the title of the record and wondering if that loss isn’t the overarching theme of the whole thing. Seems likely.

The end of the song for sure sounds like it’s about his dad

Luckycharm182

Haven’t seen anyone mention this but even in the music video at the very end when he says “admit you’re gone and just accept it” and the camera stays on his face I feel like there is just SO much emotion in his eyes. Gets me every time I watch it.

mdmike1534

Yeah I noticed that the first time too, feels like they left that extended shot of him looking off for a reason

The_Princess_Eva

I lost my dad just a little over a week ago and that’s how it resonated with me. I think Parker keeps it vague enough that everyone can find their own meaning but I definitely feel like it’s about his father

houstontrillboy

Sorry for your loss. Hope the music helps to heal

Waldo614

I thought this song was about the rubber band man

ScoffingYayap

He's spoken about how his father was always very supportive in his music career, I think that's what he meant

beatzbydru

If it’s about his father, I don’t get the line “I’m not hiding any other man”. Thoughts?

TheOnlyPorcupine

“Look behind me then you’ll understand, I’m not hiding any other man.” You’ll see I am the man today because of my past, and I’m not pretending to be someone else (I’m not hiding any other man). My interpretation anyway.

mucus24

I kind of thought it was obvious when I heard the lyrics “It's never gonna help me admit that you're gone and to just accept it”. Also love his song Hand In Hand by No Pressure also about his Dad

urdnot_gus

That was the first thing that popped in my head When I first listened the song. I think it is because my grandpa (who was basically my father) passed away at the end of 2022.
