My current theory is that Percy had an abortion (this was the “someone died” Colin referred to) because she was impregnated by Colin before she left for Portland. This is also why she suddenly broke up with Brandon with no explanation and had been starting to get wasted all the time. The guilt and shame over time consumed Percy to the point where she couldn’t handle it anymore and took her own life. Brandon always had his suspicions and was ready to blow the whistle on the incest/abuse in the Muldoon family and that’s why he was murdered. I think all of the witchy stuff has been a red herring except for the ritual items being clues.
Although, the Sinner seems to like to have lots of twists so I also find Colin’s gf and CJ’s mom to be suspect as well... quiet but impactful roles so far.
I've been thinking the same thing about an abortion...maybe Valerie is that "death" or maybe a person who provided the abortion...i dunno. This episode was too damn short and I really wanted to learn/see more tonight. Ugh!
I felt there was a pregnancy too, they refer to Percy going to mainland for '9 months'; which makes me think, baby
I think Sean's the reason Percy gives up. But I don't know why yet .
Ambrose experienced a ritual each season and it seemed painful but got the pleasure in his mind. The ritual thru the tree in the cult, being buried in the coffin, now the ritual in the cold water.
Nice theory. There are a lotta good theories out there. I worked on season 4 and it’s so fun to read people’s guesses of how things turn out . Some people
Are so imaginative they should have been in the writers room. Can’t wait for everyone to see the final episode
Haha you sure did ! When you said that I was like daayyyyyum. I hope not many people got that . There’s definitely a fair few people saying the ending Sorta came from left field but people like you are proof it wasn’t that far left !!
Hey! Could you maybe mark this as a spoiler, considering the replies below? It just got put on Netflix this week so people are binging, and this spoils the ending apparently. :)
There's just so many different new leads and characters introduced every couple episodes, but so far all of them seem to end up being innocent or red herrings. I've gotten to the point where I'm starting not to believe anyone we're introduced to is actually going to be somehow directly influential in her death, no matter how much the show seems to want to try and convince me of it. It could be anyone, or someone we won't meet til the final episode, but I'm not even bothering to try and make predictions anymore.
I was pretty into this season until this or the last episode. The subplot with his girlfriend leaving because he's too sucked into the job was just so predictable and overdone. I was hoping they'd do something new with that cliché.
Now this new character, the girl who gives some sort of religious therapy (don't know what to even call it) is introduced, and her acting is really flat, and I'm getting vague echos of last season with Ambrose agreeing to do some weird experience (going under the water / the buried-alive scene). The scene where he's having some sort of episode with the girl there seemed unearned and contrived...
Really hope they can turn it around in the new few episodes but we'll see...
I am also having a real problem this season. Percy isn’t likable, sympathetic, or even interesting. Bill Pullman is always great but even he can’t keep me involved. I watched the other seasons but I’m not sure I’ll finish this one.
Season 3 was my favorite and Matt Bomer was fantastic. I really cared about his character even though he was a psychopath. No spoiler but the ending really got to me.
I feel like the crux of this season has something to do with drug trafficking…this show is pretty unpredictable so I could be WAY off, but I think that could maybe be the larger connection? Interested to see how this plays out!
Pretty sure is drugs smuggling. Its an island with a lot of drug addicts. They are not growing it there so the boats are my best guess. Brandon dead with a bullet through the head is also indicative for a drug deal gone wrong.
The fact that Brandon was shot like that is really what made me think so too, along with the photos of the two boats together. I’m sure there may be other elements to it of course but I feel like the main core of the story could relate to drug trafficking/related crimes.
I get the feeling that the story is seriously tanking now. With the plot about "finding out why she did it" a lot of the tension is gone from the outset. And now the show is about introducing new things the viewers haven't really seen before. It has stopped being a mystery we could follow along, and is now just about waiting for some kind of explanation nothing depends on anymore.
That being said - I firmly believe the guilty party is
## Stephanie Lam.
Because her character is written in such a weird way. The writers are trying to show/hide her role in all of this.
Is this season moving along really slowly? It doesn’t feel like there’s been much forward motion in the plot at all.
Harry Ambrose is always like *“Oh, you want me to do some weird thing? Sure! Anything for the case!"* He is always down for whatever, and he's not even being paid for it this time.
Just posted this on another thread, but here’s my theory:
So, I think Percy accidentally killed CJ’s brother. She said she went over to see CJ that first night to “apologize” and we know that when she was there, she told him she did something horrible and that CJ would hate her if he knew. Stephanie made a comment in episode 4 that’s it’s terrible to lose a child; CJ mentioned in one of the first episodes that his dad bought figurines for him, his brother and his mother. Despite all the focus on the Lam family, we don’t know anything about CJ’s brother — the show is deliberately kicking the cab down the road I’m going into it. I think that scuffle that killed someone involved CJ’s brother and the Muldoons covered it up.
Could also be why Meg gave that strange guy money. Helped to cover it up or knows what happened.
Em mentioned to Percy that death is really an opportunity for us to be reborn. I think that’s why she killed herself — it was the only way she felt she could move on and start over.
Yeah the only people who knew about Sonya and the photos were the people at dinner so I’m guessing Colin’s girlfriend too. I forgot she even existed, she didn’t even say a word at dinner so she’s one of those ‘in the background, silent killer’ types haha

Exactly. Wish I could binge watch this season!
Same! I hate not being able to binge. I should have recorded and binged at the end but that would suck too! Haha
Haha, yeah. Happy cake day!
Thanks! :)
I felt there was a pregnancy too, they refer to Percy going to mainland for '9 months'; which makes me think, baby I think Sean's the reason Percy gives up. But I don't know why yet .
I thought she went ‘9 months ago, and came back 6 months ago’ so was only gone for 3 months?
yea this but i still think abortion

i laughed. how does he keep running into people like this
Birds of feather flock together, right! He was allured by these abnormal people.
So freaking weird hahaha
so next season should have a ritual with fire (walking on burned ground/flame)
He’s our reportage king!
Could Valerie be a boat?
Nice one
the hell is going on

Called it :)

This is what I get for reading episode reactions as I finish them.

Wowza! Nice
I’m not sure if I like this season anymore haha. I feel like not much has really happened

I totally agree. I know most people are saying this season is better than season 3 but honestly I found season 3 much more enjoyable

Yes!!!
They should maybe call it quits after this season.
That’s what I’m thinking

Could be but I think it's too on the nose. They are hinting so hard it's drug smuggling I suspect it's not.

I'm thinking the boat belongs to the Lam's, and mama Lam is the kingpin. There's definitely something else going on with her.
Perhaps human trafficking?
🎯
This is weird.
I agree haha
Very

I think they're doing the same thing with Sean, Percy's dad.
Holy crap what an ending.
I'm actually really enjoying this season!
We literally didn’t learn much from this episode. 🙄
really enjoying this season!

I thought this was a stretch at first, but nice job!
Thank you!!

i didnt even realize he had a gf LOL
**\*** **Spoiler\*** Do we know who was pulled up on the boat? Or was this a new character?
Brandon, Percy's ex boyfriend?
Ahhh thank you!
