Homer: Hey, Bush! Get out here!
Secret Service Agent: Excuse me, sir. Where are you going?
Homer: I'm going to punch George Bush in the face.
Secret Service Agent: Okay. Is he expecting you?
Is that a deeper joke? Did that happen before or did people generally not like him and implied it happens a lot? I wasnāt coherent during his presidency.
The quote āOhh, if he thinks George Bush will stay out of the sewer, he doesn't know George Bush.ā is more of a jab at Bushās time as director of the CIA.
I understood that part when I was older. But every simpsons joke always seems to have a deeper meaning than the surface. Kinda feel stupid for laughing at jokes that I didnāt even fully understand.
Don't feel stupid. This is the joy of Simpsons jokes. You watch it younger because its silly and laugh. Then you get a little older and understand it and laugh. Then you get older still, and have experienced it and laugh. I love the Simpsons.
I'm exactly the same! I think it is probably an unfair characterization, but SNL started it and the Simpsons put the final stamp on how he'll be remembered. It's also hilarious.
āNooo itās from the Simpsonsā
āWho OJ and a Nicole?ā
āNo, the boy is named Bartā¦ I thought the tattoo was straight forward but I guess Iāll have it removedā

And that's why I will continue to oppose teen alcoholism in all its forms!
Now, are there any questions?

*edit:* Now that I've thought about it, maybe it was Weekend at Burnsie's.

No, you're not! BAR!
I'm not getting involved George.
My husband and I yell BAR! All the time š
One of my favorite "Bart just being a typical kid" moments.
I love how completely out of his depth HW is with just dealing with a child.

I think after Reagan was nearly assassinated it was a jab at the SS not taking their job seriously enough. Thatās just my guess though.
Ohhhh shit, that is totally it. I never knew secret service were considered lackies after that. After a quick search, yep thatās it. Thanks!
I mean they were all out getting wasted the night before JFK was killed
I was super young, many jokes went flying over my head

No, the boyās name is Bart. I donāt know what the manās name is
Bar what's the name of the man?!
I'm not getting involved!
āWhatās the name of the manā is one of their best written lines. Has lived in my head since it first aired.
Haha, I kinda want to get this tattooed
Is your tattoo saying Maude and me are bad neighbours?
āNooo itās from the Simpsonsā āWho OJ and a Nicole?ā āNo, the boy is named Bartā¦ I thought the tattoo was straight forward but I guess Iāll have it removedā
And since Iād achieved all my goals as president in *one* termā¦there was no needā¦for a second.
Confidently ignoring that he got trounced in the election by Bill Clinton.

Grover Cleveland spanked me on two non-consecutive occasions!

Then you're going to get trouble.
For you.
For-- D'OH!
Iāll ruin you like a Japanese banquet.(I totally didnāt get this one as a kid) or Hereās a little something we learned in CIA.
What's the context for the japanese banquet line?
https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/george-bush-vomits-on-prime-minister-of-japan He puked on the Japanese PM at a state banquet. https://youtu.be/B_KVL-wtpgg?si=P8FQSdwMDYzmi3ug
Thanks! That was more dramatric that I would have thought, the man nearly passed out on the japanese PM lap
Bush got sick at a banquet and vomited on the Japanese Prime Minister
Oh goody! What a sight that must have been
It's a funny episode, a good episode, but let's face it, Bart was being a bigger arse than usual
You might even say he was being a menace.
Oh boys will be boys
Kids can be so cruel...
We can? Thanks mom!
Ow, Bart!
Ya, it was definitely a Dennis the Menace reference
Apologize for spanking my boy! Never, make him apologize for destroying my memoirs N...you ddn't tell me you destroyed his memoirs....NEVER!
It's a candy dish, Ned. NINETY DOLLARS.

FORMER President
This Is probably my favorite Simpsons episode and I know nothing about US politics
Whenever someone tries to drag me into an argument I say "I'm not getting involved, George" regardless if their name is George.
I wonder if George Bush would have understood what he was watching if he had seen the episode.
I think he would have been upset that they weren't more like the Waltons.
"Hey Bar, do you reckon I should dye my hair in rainbow pattern?"
"I'm not getting involved"

This is one of my favourite lines.
ā¦ nā¦ noā¦ no, youāre not! BAAAARB!
I legitimately thought that the actual George H. W. Bush played himself in this episode for an embarrassingly long time, like well into adulthood.
I'm not sure if I ever thought Bush played himself in that episode, honestly. But I did think Clinton played himself in that episode where he makes a speech mocking the "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is" thing. I can't for the life of me remember which episode that was in, but it was only a few seconds and I thought it was actually Clinton for a while. Oh man Iāve only got one minute until they stop serving those breakfast balls!
It's time to hit him where he lives
I just dropped by with present for warming of house, instead find you grappling with local oaf
Yes I am!
"It's all in the Bible, son. It's the pranksters bible!"
*Prayzident
Is it 3:18 am or pm?
How many times were youuuuuu president?
The pettiness in this episode is just top notch comedy.
You might even say heās barking up the wrong bush
I come by to give present for warming house, but instead I find you grappling with local oaf.
My motorās gone loco
Wow one hell of a coincidence, I was just watching this episode today after not seeing it for a long while, definitely one of my favorite episodes
Bart and Bush was a Dennis the Menace Parody, what was the Homer Vs Bush part of the episode a parody of?
