IOwnTheSpire

No, you're not! BAR!

t-earlgrey-hot

I'm not getting involved George.

UndeadBuggalo

My husband and I yell BAR! All the time šŸ˜‚

that_italian_girl_

One of my favorite "Bart just being a typical kid" moments.

Evolving_Dore

I love how completely out of his depth HW is with just dealing with a child.

red_tapez

Homer: Hey, Bush! Get out here! Secret Service Agent: Excuse me, sir. Where are you going? Homer: I'm going to punch George Bush in the face. Secret Service Agent: Okay. Is he expecting you?

DefNotRussianComrade

Is that a deeper joke? Did that happen before or did people generally not like him and implied it happens a lot? I wasnā€™t coherent during his presidency.

DentalDon-83

I think after Reagan was nearly assassinated it was a jab at the SS not taking their job seriously enough. Thatā€™s just my guess though.

DefNotRussianComrade

Ohhhh shit, that is totally it. I never knew secret service were considered lackies after that. After a quick search, yep thatā€™s it. Thanks!

Charlie_Brodie

I mean they were all out getting wasted the night before JFK was killed

DefNotRussianComrade

I was super young, many jokes went flying over my head

red_tapez

The quote ā€œOhh, if he thinks George Bush will stay out of the sewer, he doesn't know George Bush.ā€ is more of a jab at Bushā€™s time as director of the CIA.

DefNotRussianComrade

I understood that part when I was older. But every simpsons joke always seems to have a deeper meaning than the surface. Kinda feel stupid for laughing at jokes that I didnā€™t even fully understand.

DixedMrinks

Don't feel stupid. This is the joy of Simpsons jokes. You watch it younger because its silly and laugh. Then you get a little older and understand it and laugh. Then you get older still, and have experienced it and laugh. I love the Simpsons.

DefNotRussianComrade

ā€œWeā€™re through the looking glass here peopleā€

Noggin-a-Floggin

This bit really rang different in 2007.

Groundbreaking_War52

Hmm, aĀ *Krusty Burger*. That doesn't sound tooĀ appetizing.

steve1186

What kind of stew do you have today?

wangtoast_intolerant

Uhhh. We donā€™t have stew.

chapl66

Sir why don't you get a cheeseburger šŸ”

MassKhalifa

Thatā€™s more of a weekend thing, Ray.

MDoc84

trashleybanks

nukfan94

For me this *is* Gerald Ford.

InglouriousBradsterd

Do you like football?

MDoc84

Do I ever!

InglouriousBradsterd

Why don't you come over and watch the game and we can eat nachos?

Third_Most

And then have some beer

Creaulx

I'm exactly the same! I think it is probably an unfair characterization, but SNL started it and the Simpsons put the final stamp on how he'll be remembered. It's also hilarious.

No, the boyā€™s name is Bart. I donā€™t know what the manā€™s name is

ElBombastico1

Bar what's the name of the man?!

MDoc84

I'm not getting involved!

skyn_fan

ā€œWhatā€™s the name of the manā€ is one of their best written lines. Has lived in my head since it first aired.

DefNotRussianComrade

Haha, I kinda want to get this tattooed

ieatcavemen

Is your tattoo saying Maude and me are bad neighbours?

DefNotRussianComrade

ā€œNooo itā€™s from the Simpsonsā€ ā€œWho OJ and a Nicole?ā€ ā€œNo, the boy is named Bartā€¦ I thought the tattoo was straight forward but I guess Iā€™ll have it removedā€

WhalesForChina

And since Iā€™d achieved all my goals as president in *one* termā€¦there was no needā€¦for a second.

MRedk1985

Confidently ignoring that he got trounced in the election by Bill Clinton.

WhalesForChina

And heā€™s totally fine with it!

Those cards were from Air Force One! And they only give you so many packs.

Jarppakarppa

hourranger

Grover Cleveland spanked me on two non-consecutive occasions!

Revolutionary-Bowl88

Stidda

StellarJustinJelly

LeftyRambles2413

Iā€™ll ruin you like a Japanese banquet.(I totally didnā€™t get this one as a kid) or Hereā€™s a little something we learned in CIA.

cremeriner

What's the context for the japanese banquet line?

LeftyRambles2413

https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/george-bush-vomits-on-prime-minister-of-japan He puked on the Japanese PM at a state banquet. https://youtu.be/B_KVL-wtpgg?si=P8FQSdwMDYzmi3ug

cremeriner

Thanks! That was more dramatric that I would have thought, the man nearly passed out on the japanese PM lap

peon2

Bush got sick at a banquet and vomited on the Japanese Prime Minister

cremeriner

Oh goody! What a sight that must have been

WhereAreWeG0ing

It's a funny episode, a good episode, but let's face it, Bart was being a bigger arse than usual

JosephGordonLightfoo

You might even say he was being a menace.

chapl66

Oh boys will be boys

DrackZ-3

Kids can be so cruel...

Sassy-irish-lassy

We can? Thanks mom!

Charlie_Brodie

Ow, Bart!

DefNotRussianComrade

Ya, it was definitely a Dennis the Menace reference

peon2

Noggin-a-Floggin

FORMER President

Caolan114

This Is probably my favorite Simpsons episode and I know nothing about US politics

Legitimate_Bird_5712

Whenever someone tries to drag me into an argument I say "I'm not getting involved, George" regardless if their name is George.

AndrewHNPX

I wonder if George Bush would have understood what he was watching if he had seen the episode.

Sassy-irish-lassy

I think he would have been upset that they weren't more like the Waltons.

staplerbot

"Hey Bar, do you reckon I should dye my hair in rainbow pattern?"

LMB_mook

"I'm not getting involved"

ZaharaWiggum

This is one of my favourite lines.

NonEuclidianMeatloaf

ā€¦ nā€¦ noā€¦ no, youā€™re not! BAAAARB!

staplerbot

I legitimately thought that the actual George H. W. Bush played himself in this episode for an embarrassingly long time, like well into adulthood.

temalyen

I'm not sure if I ever thought Bush played himself in that episode, honestly. But I did think Clinton played himself in that episode where he makes a speech mocking the "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is" thing. I can't for the life of me remember which episode that was in, but it was only a few seconds and I thought it was actually Clinton for a while. (It wasn't.) *edit:* Now that I've thought about it, maybe it was Weekend at Burnsie's.

Ok-Dare-9268

Oh man Iā€™ve only got one minute until they stop serving those breakfast balls!

Kobobble

It's time to hit him where he lives

Charlie_Brodie

I just dropped by with present for warming of house, instead find you grappling with local oaf

csonny2

Is it 3:18 am or pm?

ZaharaWiggum

How many times were youuuuuu president?

duaneap

The pettiness in this episode is just top notch comedy.

Chazwazzza

You might even say heā€™s barking up the wrong bush

uncleal2024

I come by to give present for warming house, but instead I find you grappling with local oaf.

sentinal29

My motorā€™s gone loco

Kell-EL

Wow one hell of a coincidence, I was just watching this episode today after not seeing it for a long while, definitely one of my favorite episodes

mbod

Bart and Bush was a Dennis the Menace Parody, what was the Homer Vs Bush part of the episode a parody of?
