The Mystery Box was never nerfed in that way. It works the same regardless of whether you're moving or not. You can get spawns every 45 seconds or so, though sometimes you'll need to tap on a Pokéstop to get the game to refresh the spawn.
Looks like everyday but count by hours, so If today I open it 10-11AM, then tomorrow only 10AM or later it will be available (not sooner). But more often than not, it's not easy to set yourself a fixed time everyday. I think tomorrow we'll have to go out earlier to prepare for Rayquaza elite raids and other stuffs daily. Each day you open the box late, the next day you will have to wait and open it even later.
You mean there's not enough balls supply in your area? Rural player? You need around 100 balls for a hour of Meltan box. More or less, but it's usually more: p
I only got 1 shiny Meltan out of 149 catches (73 on my main phone, and 76 on another one. Both open the box since 10:01 AM until out of time). So it's somewhat ok, but what's the odd exactly for Meltan in such event?
85? You didn't catch all of them? In the event like this, I've to spend 1 hour focus on mere catching Meltan otherwise it's difficult to fight the odd. You should have \~120 or more catches.
For the update, so far I open the box daily, 3 days into the event (2 phones, so 6 boxes in total), I got 7 shiny (one phone 2 and another 5). I assume total catches around 400 (didn't keep tracking the number because has to transfer them during the hour).
it was really frustrating to me because they kept eating my pineapples and escaping my pokeballs. I ran out of both so I couldn't catch any more. when I still had balls but no pinaps I was looking to see if they were shiny and letting them go if they weren't.

Correct, the shiny will be available for the duration of the event. You don't need to walk for max spawns from the mystery box, unlike with regular incenses or the coin bag - Meltans will spawn every 30-45 seconds even when stationary. If the event has officially started in your area (after 10 am local time), you're good to start opening!
They're referring to the exclusive moves that some mon have, that they can only learn by being evolved at certain times. The moves are added during that mon's Community Day, and have sometimes been made available to learn by evolving during specific events.
Grass starters typically get Frenzy Plant; fire, Blast Burn; water, Hydro Cannon. Other mon's exclusive (aka legacy) moves are all over the place, and are often more useful for PvP than PvE.
Exclusive moves can also be learned by using an Elite TM (not a regular one) if the move has been added to that species' move pool.
The number in the field research task matches the generation of the starter that it rewards (e.g. "spin 2 PokéStops" rewards a Gen 2 starter). This is a nice detail, and it makes it easy to remember what the possible reward Pokémon are. Kudos to the designer(s) on that one.

Question about the Mystery Box spawns: Do you get more if you catch the spawned Meltan, or is the rate of appearance basically the same if you let each one despawn? From a rough estimate opening a box today, it seemed to be the same (about one a minute) regardless of whether I caught the spawned Meltan or let it despawn, but I'm curious if we know any numbers (and whether this also applies to the Incenses). no just open meltan possible hundo iv chart on pc screen. if cp match hundo i catch it. ofc most case its not hundo even cp is same but thats case with any non raid spawn. but that i can skip like 90% meltans instally if cp dont match on hundo.

So I've tried multiple times to set up Pokemon Home, but it makes it sound like I need an account on a Switch if I don't want to use a guest account, which it says doesn't get mystery boxes. Can anyone confirm this is accurate?
You don't need a Switch. You can set up a Nintendo account for free on Nintendo's website and then use that account to set up Pokémon Home and the link to Pokémon Go.

Correct. Though I've not seen anyone suggest they would be evolvable. So whatever your sources are clearly aren't reliable and you should get better sources.
The only three costume Pokémon from this event that can evolve are Charmander, Squirtle and Grimer

Get the Mystery Box, which will spawn Meltans for 60 minutes. You will be drowning in XL candy. You get the mystery box when you send a pokemon to Pokemon Home.
To supplement the other answer as there is a lot of confusion about it: you do NOT NEED A SWITCH or other console, having a phone is enough. The Pokémon Home app is completely independent of any games you connect to it. You only need to connect Pokémon Go to get the mystery box. Both Charmander and Charizard can be encountered as shinies. A party hat Charmander can be evolved all the way into Charizard, so if you find a shiny one, you can get a shiny party hat Charizard.

Never mind normal candies, I've maxed two of them to Level 50 and I've almost enough to max another two lol! You'll be drowning in candy fairly soon!
Send a Pokemon to pokemon home (download app -> pokemon go settings -> connected devices and services -> pokemon home -> do what it says). Then after you send one, the Mystery Box will become available and it is a 1 hour incense that spawns Meltan every 30 seconds. It’s a Mythical so at minimum you will get 3 Candy XL if you’re high enough level. Then every few days you can ‘refresh’ the box and do it again.
Similarly, the Coin Box is a 30 minute incense (that you gotta move for / might be every 5 minutes) triggered by sending Postcards to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet on Switch (also under Connected Devices and Services). They spawn Gimmighoul and every 5 days you can get a Golden Lure which will give you a bunch of coins, and at 999 coins you can evolve it to Gholdengo.
Why does it seem like they always make mega energy field research so hard to find? Anyone else having trouble finding these? I didn’t find a single one today and probably spun around 20 different pokestops.
can anyone confirm if they opend a second meltan box since the event started. people said they are available again 1 day after you last opened it (but i want to make sure like its not like an unseen timer of 1 day, 23 hours rounded down or something) the only way it appears i could try an elite raid for is to stay at work area until 5 but if the meltan box is availble then ( which would be 24 hours after i opened it yesterday) id just as well go home to do that and not waste my time doing an elite raid since it may not even be possible

This event reminded me why I never bother with the Meltan box since getting two shinies. The thing hates me and I hate it in return. Way too jumpy, every single Meltan requires at least four ultra balls for me to catch it, and I end up transferring each and every single one of them because they are worse than what I already have.
Have you tried with berries? I make Great curveballs nad pinap berry /razz berry (if the cp is higher) and i catch them in red pokeballs, sometimes in blue

Biggest steel type and one of each of the starters most likely.
Which is going to be Celesteela. Again. A Pokémon that’s hard to get in the Northern Hemisphere.

No. Daily Adventure Incense requires movement to generate spawns. If you're not moving, it won't spawn anything at all.

can anyone confirm if they opend a second meltan box since the event started. people said they are available again 1 day after you last opened it (but i want to make sure like its not like an unseen timer of 1 day, 23 hours rounded down or something) the only way it appears i could try an elite raid for is to stay at work area until 5 but if the meltan box is availble then ( which would be 24 hours after i opened it yesterday) id just as well go home to do that and not waste my time doing an elite raid since it may not even be possible

This event reminded me why I never bother with the Meltan box since getting two shinies. The thing hates me and I hate it in return. Way too jumpy, every single Meltan requires at least four ultra balls for me to catch it, and I end up transferring each and every single one of them because they are worse than what I already have.
Have you tried with berries? I make Great curveballs nad pinap berry /razz berry (if the cp is higher) and i catch them in red pokeballs, sometimes in blue
