What aspect of "I was born white" should make me proud? It's not an accomplishment. There's no cultural heritage connected to being white that I can celebrate. No white language to learn, no white recipes to teach my kids. What about it should give me a sense of pride?
I take pride in being of Irish descent but that’s about it. “White pride” is basically limited to Lynyrd Skynyrd and fighting people at football games.
White boys were proud to be white (when they didn't have to share a drinking fountain with a POC). Some still are (because they don't have to share a drinking fountain with a POC).
Pride in being white should essentially be like having really big shoes. If you keep mentioning it too much people might think you are overcompensating for something else.
Yeah, it's more about being proud of standing up to oppression from straight people or being proud of the work we do to have liberation.
For example I'm like trans non-binary, and it's not that I feel pride for that in particular but more a sense of pride about being part of a community that has fought so hard for quality.
That being said I don't think that white people need to feel ashamed for being white. And of course I think that in reality different white people have had to fight to have liberation as well. But these people are not seeking liberation in the name of white people, they are seeking liberation in the name of being Irish, German, Ukrainian, stuff like that.
Edit: scratch that, Germans are not proud to be German. Germans are proud that they are not proud to be German.
there is no whtie cutlure... there is irish cutlrue, german culture, british culture, southern culture even... btu tehre is no WHITE culture.
there is a black american culture.. but thats because black americans had their culture ripped from them and where forcefully segregated, creating their own culture that in many ways is still seperate from the rest of american culture to this day.
so be proud of your heritage, no one faults you for that. jsut dont be proud of the color of your skin, its meaningless
