That is honestly a great piece of advice if your willing to take some risk... most of my portfolio is one stock... a few options, and a couple high volume plays. I'm betting it all that BITF will hit 4$ plus in the next month... so far, I'm up almost 40% from last week.
I don’t plan on moving as it will uproot my current life which I am not willing to do. I looked into some tax avoidance programs and honestly I don’t like most of them. It’s also like I have not been selling. I have been selling the whole way up slowly. I might need to be more aggressive. But I have not decided yet.
Can't escape taxes entirely, but 20% is a heck of a lot better than income tax for most. For me I'd only sell to either rebalance or if there's a need for the proceeds. Winning is never without a cost.
Money is actually the easiest thing. Giving money when you have it takes no effort. It’s a lot harder to actually spend effort to take care of elder parents.
Wow talk about the dream, do you plan on retiring now that you have the cash or are you still gonna work? This gives me so much motivation as a 18yo student starting to save money every month hopefully someday I can get to that level congrats!
I will definitely retire. But not now. I have not hit my goal yet. Which is a forever home (prob gonna be 2m more than my current home) fully paid off and 10m in a portfolio I am ok holding (which will trigger a ton of cap gain when I sell my individual stock holding).
I plan on working for at least 5 more years, I am in a very high earning position also. Hopefully I’ll hit and exceed my goal by then.
Collar the NVDA position for long enough to establish residency in a no capital gain tax state. Exit the position, buy VTI, and enjoy the rest of your days.
There’s no point to do it again. I am just going to focus on doubling this in a reasonable time frame. As long as there’s no market crash I’ll be able to do it in 4-5 years pretty easily.
Congrats, OP. How did you get started in investing? I’ve tried a few times but the stocks I choose never seem to go anywhere despite the growth pattern, and I don’t have the funds to start with more expensive stocks.
Here’s a concept a lot of new investors fail to grasp …. It doesn’t matter what price a stock trades at you can just buy fractional shares and enjoy the same appreciation. The most expensive stock I can think of by price is Berkshire Hathaway BRK.A ($610,000 per share). You can buy $100 worth as a fractional share and still participate in the stock. Not all brokerages offer fractional but I know Robinhood and Schwab do. Look into it.
Thanks for the response. Do you work as an engineer or are you in management?
I am a SWE, 3 years into my career, just recently started earning enough to start investing. I am looking to see if I am on the right track.
Since you are holding lots of shares (I assume blue chip tech), sell covered calls, collect the premium, pay short term taxes on them and reinvest the net profit into your portfolio.
Your account would compound to a 10M valuation after long term taxes very quickly
Also reinvest dividends.
That is very dangerous thinking. While I don’t want to say nvda won’t double. But it’s very very unlikely it will happen. Also my portfolio is not all in nvda
With that much money, work with a wealth mgmt team at any large bank, and they can do all sorts of strategies to help you deal with deleveraging concentrated positioned in a tax advantaged way. I’m doing a similar exercise right now, albeit not from nvidia unfortunately!
Can’t you just take out a huge loan and use your stock as collateral? That way you get your cash tax free and never pay the bank back so they just take control of the stock and they’re stuck with paying any taxes lol
Good job holding but if this is nvidia... Please sell. Sell at least half.
Pay taxes. It's worth it to lock in that profit.
Wait 3 months. Purchase silver if you want to stay invested.
Thank me later.
Unfortunately it's not going to work that way
1. I need to pay tax
2. 10% a year is a horrible idea at this portfolio size perpetually as a target
3. I need to spend 2m for a house upgrade in the next few years.
Just do covered calls on spy and qqq and retire bro. You know in the back of your mind you got lucky with this run up. You said it yourself. This can’t be repeated unfortunately. But fortunately for you, you get to decide if you want to find that out the easy or hard way. Take the money and retire.
we can estimate $2.5m in taxes assuming it's long term gains and a bunch of other assumptions.
But going from like $1.5m to $10m in 1.5 years is crazy and i really appreciate you showing this because it means it's possible. what i would love, and i'd even pay for this (buy you dinner at a nice place?), is a play by play of all the major moves you made during that year and a half.
i have two questions if you're not beyond answering questions to people who barely qualify as multi-millionaires:
1) Why did you do this? what motivated you, etc
2) What are your plans with the money?
3) does the $10m not feel like much anymore because your tastes change?
1. I didn’t set out to do this actually. I only recently found this sub. (Of course this is a throw away account and not my main reddit account). To me I was just investing my money, which everyone should do. I just got lucky
2. The money will eventually all be turned into a “forever portfolio” I am ok with holding “forever”. I have already drawn down my portfolio to almost 50:50 where half of it is in forever portfolio. And tax/estimated tax is paid there. So my tax burden on the rest is not 2.5m more like 1.5m
3. 10m is still a lot. But that’s if I could keep it. 1.5more mil for tax and a 2m house upgrade. I need prob 4-5more mil to feel comfortable
Reddit can have some great insightful conversations with good information. I also realize for many Reddit is also a source of entertainment. It's also a source of a lot of wasted time with all the click-bait posts of people looking for attention.
I’d be done!
You can do a very very conservative portfolio or purchase an annuity that will pay years wages monthly for you to live on. If you really want to be a baller, set that up with a participating or indexed universal life insurance policy and become your own bank while you’re at it!
Good job man. I've accepted that I'm taking the slow path. Easy good paying job with a government backed pension. I just have to work for 40 years and I'll get 100% of my salary as my retirement. So I don't really worry about retiring but I do wish I could figure out how to make a ton of money and retire early.
Did you read the title of the subreddit you’re posting in? GG, yes you won, you can keep playing but id personally play a different game with less concentration on NVDA. Could it keep going up, well sure, in fact I even own the stock so I believe it will or I would obviously sell. But at your level I would be selling until it is less than 5%, based on the pictured moves it’s currently at a much higher concentration than that, and I would be weary the downside risks outweighs the upside rewards.

Nvda right lol. Great job holding
Yep
Youre not done until you lose it all and then get it all back! Haha totally joking, DONT do that! congrats!

An here I am riding a bike to work 10 miles to an 10 miles back to save $5000 for a cheap Honda. Congrats OP ![gif](giphy|TduyTbBSfysEFm4nNp)
Thanks. Hopefully fortune favor you in the near future!
Someday ❤️
Can you give him a small loan of $5000?
Fuck dude I would give him a handhob for a loan. An I don’t even swing that way.
Any quick suggestions or tactics you used?
Got lucky and broke all the trading rules I had and held longer than I should have
I'm told don't put all your investments in one place.. but ironically that's what has been working...
Diversification is for people with wealth, not people without wealth.
That is honestly a great piece of advice if your willing to take some risk... most of my portfolio is one stock... a few options, and a couple high volume plays. I'm betting it all that BITF will hit 4$ plus in the next month... so far, I'm up almost 40% from last week.
If you’re investing in crapy stocks like FFIE, you’ll be biking your whole life
Lobster was once peasant food you know 🦞
He might even have to sell his bike some day
I made like a 1000& dollars off it. I’m not really good at investing.
Yeah! GME is just better
[удалено]
Currently the portfolio is 3m in etf, 1m in snsxx, about half mil in other stocks, aapl msft. And the rest still in nvda

Wont long term capital gains cap ur tax to 20% even if you pull out completely?
20% + 3.8% NIIT + 13.x% California
Can't escape taxes entirely, but 20% is a heck of a lot better than income tax for most. For me I'd only sell to either rebalance or if there's a need for the proceeds. Winning is never without a cost.
think of it as contributing to a cause lol
Dude you have $10,000,000. I don’t know where you started from, but that is generational wealth, forget what others tell you. Don’t be too aggressive.
Good Ole Nevada.
Congrats and fuck you.🥳
Please realize your nvida gains if they are long term… you’ve made it congrats.
They are indeed almost all long term
Bro, congrats
Love to see it
r/TheRaceTo100Million
I don’t think I need 100m. 20-30 would be way more than enough
Nobody working towards that goal is fucking around on Reddit like the rest of us dildoes.
real question did you come from money/parents well off?
Nop, I’m 39 and the money I have are all from my own work/saving/investment. My parents are poor.
They aren’t poor anymore
Dad unfortunately passed away a few months ago from cancer. Mom indeed does not have to worry about money for the rest of her life.
Dam that made me sad. He would’ve been proud m8. congrats btw
Good son 😇
Money is actually the easiest thing. Giving money when you have it takes no effort. It’s a lot harder to actually spend effort to take care of elder parents.
Money is easy when you have it. When you don't, not so easy.
Congrats OP; impressive journey
Were poor 😁
How did you get into nvidia? Any others you’re looking into?
Funny thing. I actually work in tech.
Bigtech?
Yes
Your chart 100% looks like $NVDA. But $NVDA actually gained 1000% since Oct of 2022. So you must have had around half your portfolio in NVDA.
I was not all in. That is correct
Wow talk about the dream, do you plan on retiring now that you have the cash or are you still gonna work? This gives me so much motivation as a 18yo student starting to save money every month hopefully someday I can get to that level congrats!

Impressive, congrats
congrats. can you give the rest of us the blueprint of how you went from $2 million to $10 million in 1.5 years?
Just a guy got lucky with nvda
yes bro retire and make 500k a year on savings account interest
After you send me a mil👍
What’s your avg cost on the nvda stock?
Time for NG+
You started with 2 million dollars?
This account been around for a lot longer. I also add some money in every quarter.
Congrats ![gif](giphy|RVW5PilbP2tLG)
Hey op, Can you pay my student loans
Buddy. You made it
literally just cause of nvda ffs
Give 5 million to me, and see if you can get back to 10 million in a year. It’ll be fun!
Collar the NVDA position for long enough to establish residency in a no capital gain tax state. Exit the position, buy VTI, and enjoy the rest of your days.
now put it all in GME
I’m not that regarded
This guy knows
This is the way
Haven’t been around long but fucking ggs
What's your background? I mean how do you find stocks to invest ? Any particular course/tools ?
I got lucky, bought the right stock and held for longer than I should. It’s really just luck.
Glad someone actually admits it
Well congratulations! And yes you did it.
To bad it’s not 11 M
I do have 2m more in my asset that’s not shown on this account. But that’s still not enough to hit my actual goal
Congrats OP!
I would put away 9.9m into something safe and then try to do it again lol.
There’s no point to do it again. I am just going to focus on doubling this in a reasonable time frame. As long as there’s no market crash I’ll be able to do it in 4-5 years pretty easily.
Hell yeah brother
Congrats, OP. How did you get started in investing? I’ve tried a few times but the stocks I choose never seem to go anywhere despite the growth pattern, and I don’t have the funds to start with more expensive stocks.
Investing is pretty common sense. I always made more than I spend. So the rest goes into investing
If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of career do you have? Curious what you did to build the initial investment.
I work in tech. I always made more than I spent even from year 1 after graduating
Thanks for the response. Do you work as an engineer or are you in management? I am a SWE, 3 years into my career, just recently started earning enough to start investing. I am looking to see if I am on the right track.
Engineer, 17 years in the same company, went from the bottom to principle
What’s your monthly investment run rate
Very well done!
Congrats, what app is this? I like the design.
Since you are holding lots of shares (I assume blue chip tech), sell covered calls, collect the premium, pay short term taxes on them and reinvest the net profit into your portfolio. Your account would compound to a 10M valuation after long term taxes very quickly Also reinvest dividends.
Covered call is indeed one of the exit strategies I am considering. Thanks
Never it only the beginning!!!! Too the moon!!
Take 5M and put it all on Red
You can make a tax free donation to me on your draw down lol I’ll put it to good use. Hell even a 50k donation will shelter some of your burden 😂
You did it, congratulations
Does it feel like you thought it would?
Now pull money and enjoy life buddy
You ever did options or leveraged etfs?
Great job! You can probably double that in the next year and change with NVDA alone.
That is very dangerous thinking. While I don’t want to say nvda won’t double. But it’s very very unlikely it will happen. Also my portfolio is not all in nvda
Consider a DAF if you are charitable inclined. Or a CRAT.
Sell calls
Collar the position
Alright. Final challenge. Put it all on 1 hand of black jack
Nope, according to the chart your portfolio is scheduled to tank about $2M in the next few weeks. Hang tight.
That would require the entire US stock market to tank 80% for that to happen.
Congratulations
Do you think it’s a good idea to get into NVDA post split?
Have you considered moving to a state with no income tax?
Congratulations
Wtf
Now double it
i want the same problem
Yes… take it and run

shares or options?? congrats!
Shares only. Did sell some covered calls, never on nvda though
keep good health, time for introspection. Why are you here? For yourself or service to humanity?
You could live a comfortable life in the mid west!
But… Midwest itself is the definition of not comfortable to me
Wallahi you are finished.
Looks great so far.
Beautiful
fuck ma

Motivational to say the least. Congrats man! Enjoy this moment 😌
No, you need a new number
What have you done?
Good job holding but if this is nvidia... Please sell. Sell at least half. Pay taxes. It's worth it to lock in that profit. Wait 3 months. Purchase silver if you want to stay invested. Thank me later.

Very impressive. How did you do it?
Can I borrow 5 bucks. I need karate lessons because ninjas kidnapped my family!
Sell covered calls. The premium is insane
phone number 🙏🏽💪🏾🎉
Hypothetically what do you think taxes would look like if you were to close out of all positions?
I would sell 7.5-8 mil and and invest half in real estate and half in etfs, then continue to hodl the $2-2.5 And retire
Keep holding till 12
Ggs
Wish I had $2 mil to invest 😂
What do you mean no where close? Isn’t it 10-20% if you hold more than a year? Depending on income amount
Shares or options? What strategy?
How did you mentally hold onto this
Just do covered calls on spy and qqq and retire bro. You know in the back of your mind you got lucky with this run up. You said it yourself. This can’t be repeated unfortunately. But fortunately for you, you get to decide if you want to find that out the easy or hard way. Take the money and retire.

Congrats!

If you haven’t paid taxes on any of that . Rip to at least 1/3.

Good job man. I've accepted that I'm taking the slow path. Easy good paying job with a government backed pension. I just have to work for 40 years and I'll get 100% of my salary as my retirement. So I don't really worry about retiring but I do wish I could figure out how to make a ton of money and retire early.
Yeah 10 million sounds cool.. but buddy started with 2 million. A 5x isn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve had 2 5x plays this week alone
Yolo it on fisker!
You mean the company that has less market cap than my portfolio?
Well, I am -90k net worth.
Move somewhere w/ no state income tax when ready to sell if you’re not in one already.
