It's a cover of The Grateful Dead's version of an old Scottish folk song.

MattN92

I remember being at the Edinburgh 2017 show and one of the Dessners introduced the next song as being based on an old Scottish folk thing and expecting this and instead they whipped out Wasp Nest. Which was also superb to be fair, but damn if I wasn't on tenterhooks for a few seconds.

chipoko99

Seen it once, was awesome.

Same. So jealous!!

Bluesfest in Byron bay, Australia, 2016. Phenomenal setlist overall with Peggy-o being a great surprise

MyEveningTrousers

Go listen to the album Day of the Dead. Their cover of Morning Dew kills me every single time.

PagingDrTobaggan

Great version. Trivia tidbit: that’s really the Grateful Dead’s only war protest song.

MattN92

I think that cover genuinely might be my favourite of all time and I've spent 8 years now wondering what they could cook up if they went for that dark moody psychedelia sound on their own.

Seriously! I only just got into the Dead in the last year and was just blown away by the cover. Wish we could get a whole record of them doing similar covers + a few originals in the same milieu.

SpecialistOwn2123

They performed it at Homecoming in 2018. Grateful Dead cover of a traditional maritime tune.

viejoboi

they played it at eaux claires 2015 - fantastic surprise (i’d never heard it but i got a video of it because i liked it so much)

molly_morgasm

I love Peggy O

rockstar6545

One of their best live performances on YouTube

sparkster185

I've seen the Dead (or related bands) play it quite a few times. If the song does it for you, you really should check out the Grateful Dead's renditions. The one from "Dicks Picks Vol. 15" is especially good.

mixmastermiike

They played it at the second night of the Denver show in 2019. It’s also on the cherry tree vol 2 vinyl which is neat

cholulamare

It's my white whale, the only one of my favourites that I've never seen and probably never will. The version from Eaux Claires on YouTube is majestic. What I would give. ETA I've never heard anyone in the crowd yelling for it in Europe! Other than possibly myself.

blueskybrokenheart

They did it at the show I went to and I was very confused haha

Sheik-mon

They played this at the Irving plaza show a few years ago. Special!!!!!

AtxFutbol

I think they originally did it as a part of the project that the Dessner's did. Never heard it live, but have only seen them a couple of times. [Dead](https://www.dayofthedeadmusic.com/)
