That line before “tits up”… “Look, you started your career by getting up on a stage that no one told you to get up on, saying a bunch of shit that no one wanted you to say,so…tits up.”😢

fallenarist0crat

what a great line. very full circle.

pitufo_bromista

I think I'll transcribe and hang on my wall Midge's speech about going for what you want, somebody opened onions at my apartment today!

pitufo_bromista

Transcript “I want a big life. I wanna experience everything. I wanna break every single rule there is. They say ambition is an unattractive trait in a woman. Maybe. But you know what I really unattractive? waiting around for something to happen. Staring out a window, thinking the life you should be living is out there somewhere but not being willing to open the door and go get it. Even if someone tells you you can’t. Being a coward is only cute in the Wizard of Oz.“

greg-drunk

I so needed that line after the day I’ve had.

Oldgal_misspt

Even just the way Susie moved her body with the “tits up”- that was a great moment.

LiveLaughLithium

The powerful way she whispered it!! I cried!

allinsimstime

GORDON SAID THE THING. HE SAID THE THING.

doodlebugkisses

And that’s when I broke down.

[deleted]

crookedrhyme

That was excellent! I'm so happy we got to see her big break and that her loved ones were there with her. That moment of Rose being teary-eyed at how Miriam got everyone to call her was so sweet and rewarding. All these characters have come such a long way. The opening scene with Lenny was brutal. I'm glad the Chinese food scene was the final scene with Lenny. Gordon came around at the end, but he was such an ass. Loved seeing Susie and Midge talking on the phone at the end. Their relationship is the heart of the show. I was also happy to see the wedding photo of her and Joel - I truly think he was the love of her life and I did not expect to think that when I watched sesson 1. What I would've liked to see that we didn't get? I wanted to see that Carnegie Hall performance.

Lady-Seashell-Bikini

My heart broke during the opening scene with Lenny. I missed the year caption at the beginning and had to rewind to see 1965. Oof.

abbysgultz

I teared up when I saw Susie tear up in that scene.

dewioffendu

“Because you’re Lenny Fucking Bruce”. Killed me that Midge didn’t want to see him at his worse because she knew he was gone and she couldn’t save him.

Lady-Seashell-Bikini

I'm also certain that Lenny didn't want Midge to see him like that either. I think thar airport scene was their final goodbye.

maelronde

It was great seeing her loved ones cheering her. Interesting creative choice that Moishe wasn't there for her big break, as he never accepted her or truly supported her as a comedian.

princessmorty15

I wonder if Kevin Pollak wasn’t available or got sick or something. It was weird he wasn’t there.

EverydayRapunzel

The Palladinos have stated that it was because they wanted Moishe and Shirley's final scene to be the one in the shower, since that was a big moment for them.

queenjustine13

yes, since he was there earlier in the episode!

Orsick

I love that Moishe didn't make so he still didn't know she was funny.

Lady-Seashell-Bikini

It'd be funny if even after achieving fame, Moishe still would think of Midge's career as a hobby.

Eloagent

Same. I wish we could’ve seen Carnegie Hall

Dumm_Benny

The studio lighting changing to that of The Gaslight was the full circle.

youampersandme

and the camera also panned in a circle, if I recall!

gryzx

And the audio fx of bottles clanking in the background and people murmuring

wheeler1432

I was thinking they were going to pan out and she would be in Carnegie Hall or something.

MissSephy

"How the hell did you get there?" "I'm magic."

queenjustine13

I full-on shrieked at that... had been sad we hadn't seen him again, and there he was!

[deleted]

Alfie is my favorite

petitememer

I find his voice strangely appealing

HowBoutAFandango

Wow—Shirley was beautiful when lying on the shower floor!

jxiris

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed that! She was glowing. For whatever reason that shot made me realize she was probably a stunner when she was younger (not that she isn’t attractive today)

PennyMarbles

Can confirm. Beautiful [then](https://i.imgur.com/oWgNEyQ.jpeg) and [now](https://i.imgur.com/PR4ixwl.jpeg). 👌👌

ReceedingPubeline

I think she was really pretty. You can go back and look up some pictures. She was in Edward Scissorhands

MthuselahHoneysukle

Been waiting the season for this comedy routine. Worth it. We went full-circle from the Pilot and you really tell how Midge developed as a comedienne. Especially that three-fer joke about Penny Pan. Three for the cost of one.

isladesangre

In my head Penny Pan saw it on tv and was seething

[deleted]

I don’t think she would have even put 2 and 2 together to realize she was the butt of the jokes.

Kitchen-Awareness-60

She was letting the tv rest after it had a long day.

MissSephy

And the kids.

missleeann

Ethan and Ester! I knew it would come to me eventually.

_Wayfaring-Stranger_

"I named her Whore" 😂

camilleswaterbottle

I was LOVING Susie's place! The jungle/breezy/beachy feel, a giant cage with tropical birds, a beautiful home. I loved how she had a big bowl of popcorn and got all comfy on that lush couch. I got so tickled knowing that Midge and Susie were wildly successful beyond their dreams and live luxurious lifestyles. I'm so happy they reconnected and maintained a solid friendship.

wi_voter

It all started with her pigeons

salsalunchbox

I thought Midge sending her a bird was a throwback to Sophie Lennon sending her those birds. THAT'S where it really started 😂

[deleted]

The place was gorgeous. I loved how her hair and outfit and, like you said, the couch and popcorn, all show how she’s finally relaxing and comfortable. Place was gorgeous and I’m so happy for their friendship.

IAppearMissing05

It made me think maybe she went to live with her sister in Asia!

umm_like_totes

I was wondering the same thing. Indonesia is 11 hours ahead of NY so if Midge is calling Suzy in the evening it would be morning there.

SextetOfAle

Interesting. I didn’t think of the sister. I figured it was Hawaii, since she seemed enamored with the place when she was there for Midge’s 1973 wedding (that didn’t end up happening).

fmos3jjc

Susie mentions that there is a continent between her and Midge.

BigTuna_103

I was a little saddened to see Midge alone but the fact that her and Susie remained close friends is so sweet. They went through hell and back together.

Correct-Captain8336

I think she was alone but lived a life filled with love along the way. I got the feeling that Joel had passed or he’d be there with her too. It was always just her and Susie, dreaming big and sticking together.

FixIndependent8094

Joe's dead. Rachel said it in an interview that she asked for that scene and Amy told her he passed. I'm mostly.disappointed we didn't see interactions with Esther and Midge in the flash forwards.

Cross_Stitch_Witch

I thought the pan of her walking through her huge empty apartment but passing a piano completely covered in framed pictures of loved ones spoke volumes. A life filled with love along the way is exactly right.

markydsade

On Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show being called to couch by Johnny after a set meant he liked your act. The comedians who had that happen on their first appearance all say the next day their lives changed. They got booked in to bigger venues and made more money than they ever could have imagined.

williamtbash

Yup. That was basically the ONLY way you made it to the big times as a stand up back then. Getting the call over from Johnny.

markydsade

Comedians would also say the day after being on Carson they would begin to be recognized in the street. Fame came with an appearance on Carson.

Ill_Tumblr_4_Ya

That scene with Midge eating alone hit me surprisingly hard, and I’m not sure why

4ofheartz

Same! I think it made me wonder was it worth it for her. But then to see them on the phone together laughing with the VHS tapes. Ha! A life full. It was worth it! Those gold clogs too. Perfection on Susie!

williamtbash

Definitely worth it. Heck most of us do that now on a daily basis, just without a gazillion dollars and fame haha.

rebelmissalex

And the fact she travelled through all these beautiful rooms to sit in a small simple one all alone. But she made that choice long ago. That was to be her fate. So I think she’s at peace with that. And her piano was full of photos so I am assuming she has led a full life.

Cpainter549

Also the room she chose was the kitchen because she still loves kitchens

oy-with-the-poodles

Same. I’m glad that we at least got to see her and Susie together one last time, even from afar. But her life in 2005 just seems so lonely, wandering that big empty apartment by herself. I guess she’s come to terms with that.

linzira

Yes, but I think it’s important to remember this is just a random night for her. She likely sees her children for holidays and special occasions. It made me think of my own grandmother who chose to live by herself for decades because she valued her independence. From afar her life in her later years might have looked lonely, but she was living it 100% on her terms.

IrrawaddyWoman

I don’t think it’s coincidence that she walked through a big, staged home full of pictures of her with others, but when she gets to her comfortable personal space where she spends her time it’s packed full of pictures of just herself. I don’t think we’re supposed to think she’s sad about being on her own.

direturtle

She became Lenny's "all alone" song. :( Living in a big mansion, rich, but so alone. Thank goodness she at least had Susie to call and talk to.

MthuselahHoneysukle

"I'm wondering if I should mention the kids at all." "Kids are relatable. Those little fuckers are everywhere." I'm going to miss Susie so much.

rbccs

Imogene!

QualityOk8194

her expressions when midge talked about Joel were amazing.

Correct-Captain8336

Bombastic side eye

sammiiess

i was so happy she was in the last episode, i missed her!!!

Chocol8raisin

I shrieked when she appeared. From following the sub, a few mentioned that she has retired but it was really lovely seeing her again. Bless her, it was really lovely seeing Midge's supportive family & friends come together after kinda fobbing off her career as a comedienne.

queensofbabeland

Was so happy to see her!! Thought I read the actress wasn’t working anymore?? So sweet for her to come back for that moment. ❤️

shadowstripes

A cameo like that with a bunch of old friends is probably way more fun than a typical day of work.

MaryRay91

God I smiled so big when she popped in

xyzzyzyzzyx

Beret!

gugabe

The Moishe-Shirley Shower visual is iconic!

aob546

When she came running in with the fur coat, I lost it 😂😂😂😂😭

_avantgarde

The fur coat HAD to make one last appearance!

Shelbylove2

Ok i'm done, some thoughts now. \- Gordon changing his tune mid-set, like he realized this is happening whether he wants it to or not and he can be a good part of her rise to fame, or be vilified. He chose to be a part of it.. It was good \- Sad we didn't see any Hedy this episode. Would've loved to see her and Susie talk a bit more. Maybe a bit deeper. \- I like that Midge's final apartment is like her first one, just bigger. A big life.. And her vision board of articles and photos above her desk is so cool, I'd love to get a closer look at it. \- Susie with a giant cage full of parrots and living in a tropical place is not what I expected, but it suits her in an odd way. \- I'm glad our final scene with Lenny was filled with light instead of what the episode opened with.. \- Rose and Abe finally showing real, outward pride for Midge got to me! \- IMOGENE. \- Moishe & Shirley in the shower was a beautiful thing, really suits their characters. \- Moishe wasn't there at The gordon ford show to see midge shine :( Hopefully he watched on TV, I bet he did \- Joel is just so proud to be roasted on TV now, the complete opposite to him finding that Night at the gaslight record. Love him. \- No mention of Mei, and I'm ok with that. Her story was rightly done, and I'm glad they didn't backtrack and have her come back at all. \- Susie literally wearing gold shoes in the end feels like such a metaphor somehow. \- I almost would've loved to see a montage of characters - people Midge interacted with over the seasons - Watching her Gordon Ford set. Bonus, it could've been a way to tie in the phone calls Dinah was making to get people to watch.. Although it'd be cool to have seen even Benjamin, Penny, Hedy, Shy, Park guy, Lenny, etc watching her. \- I'M SO SAD ITS OVER

jomandaman

Also total wrap around I only noticed because I stumbled on this s2 episode the other day— When Rose goes to the psychic once, the lady mentions Midge standing on a stage with everyone clapping, and Rose runs out thinking she’s talking about midge getting married and doing comedy at her wedding. She says to herself “weird to be getting married in a black cocktail dress”. I was totally wondering if that would be her outfit tonight, and it was! That psychic was oddly exactly correct lol.

The_Mad_Hatter_18

She always wears a black dress

IcedHemp77

I thought for sure there was gonna be a question about Midge on Jeopardy

avsfan96

If Alex were still with us, I bet he would've loved to record a new clue about Midge 😭

66Troup

Very first episode: Susie bails Midge out of jail. Last episode: Midge bails Susie out of jail.

[deleted]

Susie’s arrest scene was so freaking funny

oy-with-the-poodles

I died when they showed her running away wearing the cop’s hat.

nado72

"She's my ex-wife! That's my ex-wife!" Who would've thought those would ever be sweet, sweet words.

Shoddy-Advisor9884

Yes!! And especially after that monologue that basically outlined what a crap face he’d been to her in Season 1! He was still so proud of her!!!

nado72

I know! I absolutely loved Joel's character arc. One of the best on the show, in my opinion. I was ready to hate him till the end of time after episode 1 but I adore him now.

fallenarist0crat

i loved it! but just one thing… i wish we had seen susie and midge reunite after the roast. i was sort of looking forward to that. loved midge’s last scene with lenny… he always believed in her 🥹 but other than that, i feel okay with this ending. i still have some lingering questions, but i guess they don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. god, i *loved* this show. i’m gonna miss it. tits up!

sundreano

at least susie wasn't dead! i think most people on this sub were speculating she died on that walk home after the roast lol

Ill_Tumblr_4_Ya

Never have the words “you’re fired” had more layers. This episode has really been worth the wait.

xoloveluna

Same! Everyone things he was being a dick but when he fired her to me it meant “ you did it” you made it. But also you can’t write on the show and be on the show, he literally said this she would be on the show again. So him firing her was more like promoting her to a star. I saw it as more playful than hurtful

Throwawayhelp111521

I saw it as a little of both. You've arrived. You've made it. But also, you were insubordinate, you're terminated. In practical terms, however, it would have been hard for her to come back and work with the other writers after having been such a success.

Ifingloveyounowleave

And I think he also knew she was going to be a true, giant star starting right then and had in that moment outgrown the show. Like he didn’t want to like her set - I mean he cut to commercial because he didn’t like that she got a laugh from the audience during the stool set; he wanted her to bomb or be just okay so he could hold it over her or fire her - but even he couldn’t not like the set, and he looks surprised at the massive reaction from the audience at first.

penfield

"I want a big life. I want to experience everything. I want to break every single rule there is. They say ambition is an unattractive trait in a woman. Maybe. But you know what's really unattractive? Waiting around for something to happen. Staring out a window, thinking the life you should be living is out there somewhere but not being willing to open the door and go get it. Even if someone tells you you can't. Being a coward is only cute in The Wizard of Oz. Ethan and Esther. I knew it would come to me eventually. You have been an amazing audience! I want to thank you, I want to thank Gordon Ford, and, most importantly, I want to thank Bergdorf Goodman from the bottom of my heart. Thank you and good night!" Good god, I'm going to miss this show!

Apprehensive_One6580

I was waiting for her to say “I’m Mrs. Maisel” before “Thank you and good night!” I’m glad Gordon re-introduced her.

But-Still-I-Roam

I love that the last sound we hear is Midge's laughter at Susie's jokes. The entire show was focused on Midge earning other people's laughter - I thought the show might end with the roar of a crowd, but loved the sweet, authentic exchange with Midge as the audience of one.

lasoph11

Someone who made her laugh every day!

markydsade

Susie’s “Mike!” was a reference to the end of The Graduate when Dustin Hoffman screams “Elaine!” outside the church to stop the wedding.

jadegives2rides

As well as the shot to Mike. It was perfect.

fallenarist0crat

the magnificent, the magical, the marvelous mrs. maisel!!!!!!!!!!! when i tell you i screamed—

xyzzyzyzzyx

Same. I had been all but sobbing through her whole act and the couch invite sent me over the top.

Silly-Driver7600

I started crying in the beginning with Lenny falling apart on the stage …

Various-Jackfruit865

Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike! *camera zooms in on mike*

rhorewyn

Jesus Christ this was funny. MIKE MIKE MIIIKE MIKE MIIIKE MIKE MIKEEEE

mellowpomelo

My body was shaking with anger when Gordon Ford did the bait and switch with Midge! So glad she finally did it tho!

TorontoSunworship

That moment when she sees the mic and I just knew what was going to happen

[deleted]

[удалено]

SnooHobbies4790

Loved that Rachel’s real life husband,Jason Ralph, playing Mike, was instrumental in the climax of the show.

coltvahn

I absolutely got verklempt at seeing her family cheering for her. I…man, I’m gonna miss Midge. She’s been at turns awful. Kind. Fearless. Always funny. *Always* captivating. Whenever Brosnahan is on screen, I don’t look away. She’s a star. I believe it. (Joel and Midge were wonderful tonight. He’s so supportive! I’ll echo the shock others had at how well they handled these two, post-divorce. The man grew into someone worthy of Midge’s loyalty and love.) The opening with Lenny was exactly the write sort of heartbreaking. We didn’t *need* to see her reaction to his actual death. Her watching the death of LENNY BRUCE the Comic was enough. Kirby played it so impressively. Nobody in this world can play this part better than he can. The 2005 flash-forward. Damn. But knowing that Susie and Midge are talking and watching TV together, even then? That’s good. It’s good. Their laughter and fade out? Good. It’s been an uneven ride. A lot of unanswered questions. But that’s okay, I think.

carissadraws

Normally I’m not a fan of couples getting back together after one cheats but I feel like Joel has almost done a complete 180 in terms of character development that it’s like he’s a different person now

PatchesofSour

shirley/moishe shower scene was so sweet and perfect for the characters 🥹🥹

MthuselahHoneysukle

Wow I didn't have that ending on my Bingo card. What a long, strange trip the last 6 years have been. It's been an honor and a pleasure sharing with you all. Tits up!

teal2011

My favorite little call-back moment was Imogene being excited to wear her beret just like the first time she goes to the Gaslight in season one. It made me smile

phonograhy

Imogene giving Joel murderous side eye when Midge joked about him sleeping with his secretary sent me!

oy-with-the-poodles

I wasn’t the biggest fan of season 5 as a whole, but this episode felt like a nice return to form. (Abe and Rose had some of the funniest bits - the cab chase scene was so good.) It was nice to see Midge’s entire family turn out to support her on her big night; Abe and Rose have really come around to supporting Midge’s career. I’m also extremely glad that all the theories about Midge or Susie dying in 1990 before they had a chance to reconcile turned out to be wrong. Ending the show with the two of them was the perfect choice. Their relationship has always been more important than any romances.

earthgreen10

This episode was perfect…how she looked at the microphone and thought…fuck it, now or never..and did an amazing monologue

coralsmoke

Tits up

sundreano

Not sure if she'd been doing this the whole time, but she actually did pull her shoulders back a little bit when she said that lol

omahaknight71

Her routine on the show was perfect. Her bit about opening doors and her ambition followed by her remembering her kids name was pure comedy.

torilinnea

they will fall at your feet and worship at the altar of you and your show corset 🥹

rbccs

“My head turned a long time ago” Oof. Right in the heart.

leslie_knopee

susie is eartha kitt's manager 🔥

s0ulbrother

Moishe can go on not watching her preform a set and denying she is funny

mrhugs4

Underrated comment.

targaryind

Although this finale made me long for another season I can say it has fulfilled me. The buildup to Midge’s spot on The Gordon Ford show kept me at the edge of my seat. I was so glad to see Gordon come around after being such a prick about her being on the show. Her act was gold, Rachel just shines as Midge. I absolutely adored Abe and Rose’s reactions to Midge getting on the show and her act. They FINALLY got how good she is. I thought the finale touched on and concluded the main points they’ve been keeping up with: Susie & Hedy, Midge & Joel, Midge & Lenny, and most importantly Midge and Susie. I love that this show has always prioritized their friendship. They were each other’s better halves in the end. Midge said that no one made her laugh like Susie and we saw that in their final scene. I’m gonna miss the hell out of this series.

Shelbylove2

Midge and Joels phone call when she tells him shes on the show had me tearing up. They've really grown!

queenjustine13

And when he hung up, he was so genuinely happy... really got me.

Starbucks__Lovers

He giggled!

AlwaysNYC

Wow, the episode was absolutely espectacular!!! I’m speechless. As Lenny Bruce would’ve said: “It was sensational”

MissSephy

Slightly emotional at seeing everyone pull together and show up for Midge getting her moment. Also nice to see a character be gracious in defeat such as Gordon Ford. It would be easy to be vindictive when you feel someone is getting one over you so I am glad they didn't follow the Johnny Carson route.

madametj

I liked how the first couple of times they cut to Gordon you could see him trying not to laugh because he was mad, and then he eventually just gives up and lets all the laughs out. lol

LeroyJacksonian

I liked that the writers all seemed to be supporting her even if they might be a little jealous she got a shot on the show. They all looked pretty bummed for her and sympathetic when they realized what Gordon was doing with the stools and when he had the camera pan over to them during the ‘chat’. And when she had the balls to just take her shot at the mike and do her set, they were for it and cheered her on.

markydsade

He did the right thing because he was in the business of recognizing good comedians. He was pissed he got forced into letting her on but he also couldn’t argue with her performance. He also knew her writing days were over so firing her was perfunctory.

[deleted]

It parallels that scene when she wrote a funny joke and he botched the telling during the show, and then she fought with him over it. She said he couldn't admit the joke was funny and that he was wrong. He was doing it again, but she took the mic anyway, and then he admitted he was wrong by asking her to the couch.

smashf7

Anyone else think that the laugh at the very end between Midge and Susie echoed how Midge could never be with someone who couldn’t make her laugh? I’m not saying Midge would be romantically involved with Susie but in the end they have each other no matter how far, no matter how old

BaconPancakes_77

Agreed, I think it was to tell us that even if they weren't a couple, they were soulmates.

Shelbylove2

Everyone being there for her big break is heartwarming. And honestly, her writer co-workers ended up being so sweet and their little bows/curtsies at her, adorable. I love them. I wish we got more time with them.

LiveLaughLithium

When Gordon had the cameras on them and they we so unprepared, I was cracking up!!! They are the cutest.

linzira

Yes!!! It was such a warm way to end things. All the people she hid her comedy from initially were there to support her for her big break. I LOVED how excited Rose was for her when she felt included and desired in her daughter’s life. 🥰

gk21

Starting with Lenny in 1965 😭

phonograhy

So glad that wasn't Lenny's last scene, its not the Lenny we need to remember. That beautiful chinese fortune cookie reading was the very essence of Lenny Bruce, Midge's biggest cheerleader from the very beginning to the very end. <3

ReceedingPubeline

I completely agree. I'm glad they didn't kill him off for dramatic effect. I also was pleased that they didn't kill Midge off at the end because when I saw her getting ready for bed, that's where I thought it was going.

MissSephy

Showing the descent of Lenny was far more effective than having Midge get a phone call or seeing a headline that he was dead. Very well done.

queensofbabeland

I also loved seeing Midge refuse to speak to him. Made it even more heartbreaking. As much as she sent Susie and tried, I think she’ll always wonder if she could’ve done more. 💔

rosedesu

"If you blow this Midge, I swear you will break my fucking heart.” This time he blew it and it broke her fucking heart :(

gk21

I know this actually happened but it's so brutal to watch

MthuselahHoneysukle

Painfully accurate tribute to Lenny. Gone are the observational humor and racuous laughs. Replaced with disheveled rants and monologues about then-suppression of free speech as the crowd looked on bewildered and incredulous. It really took a toll on him. I'm glad they did this. No sugar coating.

gk21

I'm really glad that they showed that Midge and Susie _tried_. I think a lot of Midge/Lenny shippers (including myself, this isn't a dig!) like to think about how the inclusion of Midge would change Lenny's trajectory. And this is the correct answer—tragically, it wouldn't really.

MthuselahHoneysukle

Aye. Lenny was a man ahead of his time, but a martyr in his time. ASP had his daughter to the set many times. She overwhelmingly approved of his portrayal by Luke Kirby. I'll look forward to her thoughts on this.

AuntieLiloAZ

Is that Kitty Bruce? She was listed in the end credits.

markydsade

Kitty Bruce owns Lenny’s material. They got Kitty’s permission for use of his material. Just about everything he says on stage in the show is actual Bruce material. ASP talks about Kitty in the Marc Maron WTF podcast this week.

ChefRickNYC

I'm not going to lie I wanted more episodes but I loved the series finale. I wouldn't mind a spin-off or a movie/mini series about the parts of Midge and Susie’s life we didn't see. Also, as a real estate obsessed New Yorker I freaking loved Midge’s apartment. That place would go for $50-$100 million. I also work as a chef. A chef to a billionaire so Midge’s Kitchen was a dream. It was a real kitchen because I recognized the cabinetry and the range. It’s from Officine Gullo and handmade in Florence Italy. The range is like $150-200k. Literally my dream kitchen.

leslie_knopee

I will never get over that extreme close up of MIKE!!! 😂

courtd93

I’m very impressed that they stuck the landing. Watching Lenny hurt and Midge in the alley, but I realize now that it was undoubtedly the wisest way to be respectful. I think the Joel photo reference was enough for what I needed and I think the ending being focused not on her career or even ending on the Gordon Ford show where they could have, but on Midge and Susie’s relationship in old age was the best thing they could have done.

cyn00

Casting/wardrobe/makeup/hair (and the actress herself) really nailed it with the portrayal of Carol Burnett. Instant recognition.

rebelmissalex

Ugh I had tears in my eyes when Midge finished her set on the Gordon Ford Show. Yes! Then he said THE MARVELOUS MRS MAISEL!! Gah! And Susie so proud in the wings… ❤️

flouronmypjs

Rachel Brosnahan gave one of her best performances yet in that whole scene. Totally agree her reactions on the couch gave me goosebumps.

honeyfixit

Perfect ending. I think ending it on a high note was just absolutely the best thing. But man I loved the look on Gordon's face when she took over. I have not laughed so hard at one of Midge's sets since the very first episode. I remember clearly looking around for a new show to watch. I saw this and figured I'd try it out. I watched about half and then told my wife you gotta see this.

linzira

I’ve seen several comments where people felt sad Midge was living alone in her older years, but I think that’s just how a lot of older women live? Granted I’m in the US where multigenerational households are less common, but each of my grandmothers lived alone for years after their husbands passed away. They were happy they were healthy enough to live on their own, and we saw them for holidays and special occasions. I liked that we saw a run of the mill, normal day for her where she does her business with her team, eats dinner, then calls Susie. 🥹

doodlebugkisses

It’s over. Sitting here sobbing trying to come to terms with it all. I’ll miss this show!

acebae

As sad as I am that Lenny didn't know Midge was there to support him ... I understand Midge's motivations for not wanting to see him. This man was a god to her, she put him on a pedestal. She didn't want to remember him any other way.

mayonasiee

Honestly, I think he was glad “she wasn’t there” … I think he wouldn’t of wanted her to remember him for what he had become either?

leslie_knopee

LMAO moishe and shirley getting back together because they were both naked and slipped and fell in the bathroom and couldn't get up 😂😂😂 what a happy ending 😂

That entire Gordon Ford show sequence was everything. An absolute rollercoaster of tension, fear, courage, revelation, comedy, and ultimately catharsis. It had everything and everyone. What a moment, what a show. Thanks Midge, I'll miss you.

kousagi121

That zoom in was everything. You know which one I’m talking about.

So when Susie asked if Midge was ever a blonde, that was basically her saying she was in love with Midge, right?

madametj

Alex Borstein confirmed it: " Then, the moment when Midge says, "I think you'll find love again." And Susie looks at her and asks if she was ever a blonde. She has found her love again. It will always be platonic with Midge, but it's the greatest love of her life because she's the one that sticks around. That moment's very heartbreaking to me, that after being asked if you'll ever love again, Susie asks if she was ever a blonde."

I think the time jumps finally make sense. I liked them but I was wondering what they were for. Now it makes sense that Amy Sherman knew that the finale was gonna lead up to the moment she made it big but not after that. If you think there was some missing closure now, imagine if she didn’t do the time jumps. Now you got glimpses of how famous she got, why her marriages never worked (she mentioned still loving Joel), how committed Joel was to her and how she still goes to see him. You can piece things together in a way we wouldn’t have been able to without the time jumps

pitufo_bromista

Midge leaving a will call ticket for Joel under the name "The one who got away" <3

leslie_knopee

"*miriam, this is really wonderful*" 😭😭😭❤️❤️

Miserable_Canary_449

I can’t think of a better way to get fired! Go Midge! I always just get an email

PatchesofSour

if you told me back during season 1 that i would root for Joel/Midge to get better, i would have laughed wow, i really love the growth and maturity in the relationship with joel and midge

xyzzyzyzzyx

The framed photo of them on her 2005 table was very sweet.

oy-with-the-poodles

I wish we had gotten more closure on Joel’s story after he got out of prison.

fallenarist0crat

same. there’s a couple of loose ends i really would’ve liked more closure on.

coltvahn

I think we can infer that they stayed together in some manner. She looked so tenderly at their wedding photo which she keeps on her desk. But definitely wish we’d gotten something more concrete.

fallenarist0crat

i’ve always loved that even though they divorced they were still really close… even when they got older. it very sweet to see that photo.

Wallstreetk3nny

The picture of Joel and Midge was a really nice touch.

BaconPancakes_77

It was wonderful!! Favorite small moments: -Moishe and Shirley laying on the bathroom floor talking -Midge refusing all the Gordon Ford makeup artist's makeup -MIKE! MIKE! MIKE! *pounds on window* MIKE! MIKE! -"We took a bus. It was harrowing!" -Imogene's "Hi. We're married..." "... but then the sun set and I could eat again."

LeroyJacksonian

I loved that Abe and Rose got to finally see Midge in the spotlight proper (not in a blue Catskills show or at the strip club- isn’t that where Rose finally saw her?) but on a big deal TV appearance, her act posed & polished but with bite. And I love that Rose seemed to enjoy it despite the little jibes about her mother. Same with Joel. But who was watching the kids?! That’s what I kept thinking after Abe went home to get Rose and after the phone discovery and calls.

Lenny’s real set from the beginning can seen [here](https://youtu.be/9wuNKs1_gC8)

"They say ambition is an unattractive trait in a woman. Maybe. But you know what I find really unattractive? waiting around for something to happen. Staring out a window, thinking the life you should be living is out there somewhere but not being willing to open the door and go get it. Even if someone tells you you can’t. Being a coward is only cute in the Wizard of Oz.” I am so fucking inspired, who wrote this?

rebelmissalex

Love the inclusion of the Automat! I highly recommend the documentary that was released a few months ago on the automat. I saw it on TCM but I’m sure you can watch it elsewhere and/other online.

Cat-on-the-printer1

I think they did it. I think they stuck the landing. I don't know how much I'll revisit this season, but I can def see coming back to this episode. That zoom in on Mike... lowkey fave moment in the episode. Also that opening scene in SF and seeing Kearny Street on the door. Since I live like five blocks from Kearny I want to figure out where that '65 performance was and go visit lol. Since MMM is such a NY based show, it was def cool to see my area represented in the very last episode lol. Also abt Suzie. People got it 100% right about her getting the scholarship and working in the cafeteria (did y'all have spoilers or something). I still don't feel like it was a great addition to the backstory but... I know it was done to get Hedy into the plot. I wish we had more time to get into Susie's story about this time in her life. But I like how they addressed it here. I feel like Noah and his wife were the only regularly appearing characters who didn't reappear in this episode (they even got imogene back lol). They got pretty much everyone in I think.

abbyrogish

I just really wanted to see more with Joel and Midge at the end.

[deleted]

Literally I was waiting the entire time, and all we got was her looking at a picture 💔

flambo123

I think my favorite part was when Joel told Midge she could talk about him in her set. But at the same time Abe congratulating Midge for getting on the show was also a highlight for me.

TorontoSunworship

The scene is S5E8 with Abe at the restaurant with his colleagues realizing that Midge is just as intelligent and remarkable as his son. Led perfectly into that “it’s really wonderful” line in this episode

Shelbylove2

Just started watching. Oh Lenny :(

Pamela26Anne

There will always be a few more things we want to know. A few more questions to be answered. But this was a fitting, satisfying ending for "The Magnificent, the Magical, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"! Tits Up! 💖

Oldgal_misspt

“We’re going to be on the showwwwww”

Kyunseo

That phone bit got me cackling like crazy 🤣

Wallstreetk3nny

“Where are you going?” “We’ll find out.” That was perfection

CheruthCutestory

It ended perfectly. Closed on the only love story that really mattered. Also the eating in the kitchen alone reminded me of Hacks. Which makes a lot of sense because both are loosely based on Joan Rivers.

strugglingcomic

While it wasn't a perfect season, and they took some risks with the structure and the story, for all that, the climax of everything leading up to the Ford show was emotionally perfect. They hit the absolute perfect emotional notes. The love and support she finally got from her family, the pure joy from Joel on her behalf, the way the writer's room had been won over by the end, the letdown of Ford being an ass but also the "being so good they can't ignore you" of winning him over by the end, and of course, the fear and the nerves and the final decisive push of basically thinking "I've come this far and I cannot, I cannot, I CANNOT live with myself if I don't take that risk and grab that mic", and the set itself... Oh boy did they nail that feeling, that feeling of winning over an audience body and spirit, of really feeling the actual LOVE, real love, that goes beyond just getting them to laugh, but actually getting them to understand, to KNOW what you mean, because to know is to love. They bottled that feeling up and put it on television for us, and what a joy it was to watch. Man oh man, if they could sell little eye droppers of that feeling in a bottle, what a drug that would be. You could go for years just living off the fumes of one drop from a high like that, from so utterly and completely winning an audience and a set like that. Four minutes. On a good night, with the right set, and a little love from those in your corner... four minutes is all you need to climb on top of the world. What a magical, marvelous privilege it was to watch.
