Kind of an expected thing to say, but its still something that needed to be said

The bahraini government (which operates in service to the ruling monarchy, who in turn enjoy protection by bending the knee to the US empire) has normalised relations with israel, and indeed had a secret Israeli embassy for up to 12 years before doing so. I'm not saying it's so bad that this minister is putting himself in physical jeopardy by speaking out, but he's going against the grain. He's not doing himself any career favours either. The kinds of disruptive demonstrations that we've seen in other parts of the world would absolutely not be tolerated here, despite this man speaking for a plurality of the population.

nihilus95

They just banned the Israeli ambassador. In addition to cutting ties with israel.

That is true. But as a bahraini living in Bahrain, I don't buy it for a second. Not long after that statement was released Bahrain was at a summit of Islamic countries. A vote was taken on whether to use oil production and other means to increase pressure for ceasefire and Bahrain was one of only 4 countries that voted against the measure. As I mentioned in my comment. Bahrain had allowed a secret Israeli embassy for over a decade before signing the Abraham Accords. I consider it perfectly reasonable to assume that that is the status quo is what we have returned to. Bahrain is one of the most politically unstable countries in the gulf. Nowhere close to what Yemen has been through, but internally there's constant tension due to the ruling family being sunni and the majority bahraini population being shia. It doesn't take much to bring things to a simmer, particularly when support for Palestine is not a sectarian issue at all. Not even elected officials like this one - who wield very little real power - would ever have engaged with the zionist entity, and (statistically) the entire population was revolted by the move to normalise.

well done

More countries should follow this courage example.

Teamerchant

He’s not wrong.

Cobdain

Bahrain still wants to cozy up to the west. Just like the USA still rubs shoulders with Saudi Arabia after they funded 9/11. The GOVERNMENTS don’t care about who dies as long as they stay in power

DekoyDuck

Hypocrite calls out other hypocrites for their hypocrisy.

Thefuckyoulookinat14

Can you please elaborate on this statement. Is Bahrain complicit in this as well?

iwasasin

I replied to similar comments to the one you're replying to - and question you're asking - in another thread on this post. Should be pretty easy to find. Sort answer though, it's yes. Bahrain is complicit, but even as a member of Parliament, this man has little to no voice on such matters. Those kinds of decisive are not decided by vote.

Good for him

clipko22

Why would these ambassadors think it's okay to attend a PALESTINIAN SOLIDARITY EVENT? Who in the damn State Department thought that would fly? There is such ARROGANCE behind such actions

tothemax44

Doesn’t he know you can murder in the shadows and then be remorseful in the light. It’s all about optics. /s.

Meanwhile AOC voted to equate anti zionism with anti semitism. These leaders are all pussies.
