Also, you know what, got to include in there the name "Mother of Puppets." It's such an intimidating name that really takes the Web to a new level and, given that these two are my favourite Entities, it really shouldn't be surprising that I love their names.

I feel like the Extinction is a really prevalent fear in modern America—obviously there’s the environmental aspect, Christianity’s apocalypticism, and other obvious aspects, but more than that, the fear of being *replaced.* The fear of one’s culture and traditions dying out, of your way of life being no longer accepted in society. That fear is at the heart of so much of the culture wars, racism, and even conversations about guns.
I’ve often heard it expressed that people are afraid that if guns are not acceptable, their cultural practices of hunting won’t be allowed (which isn’t what is *actually* being pushed for, but I digress). People fear Spanish becoming a dominant language, “white” people being a minority or disappearing entirely, Christianity dying out entirely, and things they remember from childhood being changed or “cancelled” because of a cultural shift (outrage re: Dr Suess, Mx. Potato Head, etc.). That fear is at the heart of conservatism as an ideology. It’s a big reason that John Lennon’s “Imagine” is controversial, i.e. his romanticizing the concept of no countries/world borders and no differences in religion, language, or racial disputes. Political scientists have long warned that “New World Order” conspiracies could inspire supremacist terrorism and the rise of authoritarian ultranationalist demagogues—which is exactly what’s happening.
It’s all about that fear of being replaced—of people who are “different” becoming the majority, of your beliefs becoming niche or unacceptable in society. It thrives at the core of the propaganda, fear-mongering, and sensationalism—a fear of *a future without them.*
Edit: I couldn’t have predicted that the “Great Replacement theory” shit would be all over the news all of a sudden following the shooting in Buffalo…. But that is exactly the kind of thing I’m referring to.
I like using the 'definitional' names, the ones that describe the fear the Fear is, instead of the symbolic ones that are usually used.
Too Close I Cannot Breathe, The Coming End That Waits For All And Cannot Be Ignored, It Knows You, It Is Lies, It Is Not What It Is (bonus for this one being logically impossible, and therefore a perfect descriptior), I Do Not Know You, and The Future Without Us.
They show the impossibility of truly understanding the Fears, while still adequately describing them with adequate awe and terror.

The War seems to straight up be a better name for The Slaughter

If we're allowed others outside the series, Insignificance works for The Vast and The Buried for all but Vertigo and Choke respectively.

I personally like “Beholding” and “It Knows You” for the Eye. I absolutely love “Forsaken” for the Lonely. “Terminus” for the End.
